What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
bauertschi replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
and I suspected for some time that there are ppl out there who fool around with blood/health/shock/armor values. This sucks immensely. I feel like a broken record, saying the same things over again and again, but here we go: Server side sanity checks for regeneration speed, too high values as well as damage calculation should be able to take such things out completely - well, I guess I think they should be able to. Others have/had the same problems, it's the same again and again. There is/was (don't know, saw it in a youtube video interview of a hacker who makes/made hacks) a hack in BF3 where ppl had extremely fast regeneration all the time. How did he say it? Something like they had extremely potent health packs in their undies. They could still be killed, but not if there were small pauses between bullet impacts. Had to be gunned down really fast. Yes, server performance for many thousands of zeds + other things, yada, yada, yada..., but really I hope for plenty of sanity checks. But those will probably come way later. -
To point 3, you respawn, if you log out unconscious, but I don't think you do when you log out and somebody knocks you out then - can someone confirm that? I found players several times while they were logging out. I once knocked one out, stole his gear, but let him live. Now if all your gear was gone as described, you were still at the same location (no respawn) and you were not online for weeks, I'd guess some game bug with the database, database connection, or something in that direction. Don't panick. EDIT: The post above mine sounds interesting, I only ever lost something when swimming. Avoided that after the first time.

bauertschi replied to Shrub Rocketeer ™'s topic in General Discussion
There is a hell of a difference between asking "Could someone explain what in the hell is the 1st post about? I cannnot decipher this broken ghetto engrish no matter how much imagination I use." compared to telling us that - we should feel ashamed - this is ridiculous behavior (still unsure what exactly) - if you were a mod, you would have shut the thread down Btw. I still have no idea what "DayZ GD to become 4chan or something" could mean. I really tried. PLEASE tell me. The way I explained what is in the first post is boring. If anyone even cared enough to respond, it might have been along the toughts of "the AI seems to have trouble getting the boar out of the garden again." The way Shrub used language (including the destruction of what is all good and well in English which now seems to be confirmed as on purpose), drawings, videos and above all innocent logic you can usually only find in a five year old that resulted in reasoning that piggies are wonderful creatures that help survivors was taken with great humor by a lot of ppl. (<- That was a shit sentence, but I think it is correct, sorry.) That way he did it actually manage that there are ppl out there greeting piggies ingame and trying to prevent and punish senseless slaughter of piggies! I'm laughing my ass off. When I see a piggie I have to think of this thread and smile - and greet it of course. Some surely think that is totally idiotic, but humor comes in many shades. And this is DayZ. Being a member of a piggie cult is as good as any other way to play this game. -

Well not stricktly off limits, posted in post 52 that I will hunt them, if I or someone in my group needs a pelt. But the senseless slaughtering must stop. There is deer, cows, ... whatever, but killing piggies for food or fun is not acceptable for me. -

Last night I ran up to 4 piggies, waved and yelled "Hi, piggy!". It's the polite thing to do after all. Now the problem is my team mates. I can ignore that they think I'm an idiot doing something like that in open fields in the north west, but one actually started to threaten me. He even went so far to say that he would shoot the piggies, just so I would stop. Of course I told him I would have to shoot him on principle, but it is not easy to stay on the right path. Maybe I can convince them in the end that piggies are good and should have our loyalty and love, but that's not gonna happen fast. Gotta stay strong. -

Dean hasn't produced the game yet, you can say something like that in probably 2 years or so. When I look at the last there were plenty of things added to the game in terms of features. Crafting, zed movement with navmesh (not perfect yet, but certainly a plus), items, basic loot spawn, first tries of persistance and item lifetime, ... . Whatever. A lot of those don't work great yet, but they got a start. At the same time I have better performance now (not at the start of 48) and it feels like server lag and combat lag are at an all time low for me. There was a time when I refused to go on servers with more than 25 ppl because of lag, now I only play on full 40s and performance is better than ever before. The only thing not better than before for me currently is melee, but that's getting a do over. I am seeing different feedback from some ppl, almost like some have real trouble and a completely different experience with the current build, no idea why, but that's a different topic called "Why do performance issues/desync/whatever impact some ppl so greatly and why is that". Everyone here want's better zeds, but everyone should be able to see that they are evolving. What you want is an instafix for all problems, so they are great tomorrow. As far as I am concerned zed behaviour, numbers and melee might in the end be a main problem for DayZ, just as desync and other performance dependant things. You have no higher standard and desire for the game to reach it's full potential than anyone else, at least I cannot see that in any of the posts I have read from you. If I were a dev, the more the "community" criticizes the same things again and again on a daily basis - things you can be sure devs are aware of, unless you think the are total itiots, the more the "community" could kiss my ass. Every time I read something where someone thinks its useful to point out how we should change priorities and rip ppl out of teams and put them somewhere else because they THINK something is more important, the community could kiss my ass. Every time I read threads where everyone who is a gamer and his dog is all of a sudden a pro software project lead, the community could kiss my ass. If you take the community and the opinions some here spew out all day long seriously as a dev, then there are only a few options: Suicide or quitting the job. Alternatives are not taking the community seriously any more and labelling them as idiots or filtering the feedback extremely before starting to even think about it. Otherwise only the most die hard masochists could cope with this "community". If you really think that "the more we criticize and point out major flaws, the more aware the project can be about what needs to be fixed and what is unacceptable", then you label the devs as complete idiots, not more, not less. Good luck with leading software projects yourself in the future with that attitude. Can just imagine the meetings with you treating everyone as if they had the intelligence of a toddler and telling them that everything they did sucks, because it's not at the standard expected in the end while totally ignoring that there are still years to go till final. Either way, the OP asked "What other good things can we talk about? " There is complain threat specifically for complaining and plenty others going in that direction as well. You have complained in plenty of different topics, fine. I don't need to agree with you. But this thread is specifically not about bitching around all day long. As someone already pointed out, you missed the topic. That's a simple fail in class since 3rd grade or at least was where I got educated. It's not useful to go into every thread, totally ignore what the topic is and writing the same things again and again. Complain in the complain threads. EDIT: I am a software dev and I would not have the nerve to take this "community" seriously, hats of to hicks and others who actually read this forum, even the "This game sucks" thread. -

I really think a lot of new stuff was pushed in the current past, also biggies. They may not work so great just yet, but that's to be expected. Funny that you mention ragdolls though, they are a start, but currently they tell you, if a person is dead. No ragdoll, when they are unconscious. I got the feeling that 0.48 has over time improved greatly on server side. At the beginning there was bad desync stuff going on, ppl being teleported back after desync, ... and even while it still happens, zeds don't seem to hit me inside houses when they are somewhere different so often any more. Either there were "silent" server updates, or I got lucky with the servers I joined the past few days. At the start of 0.48 we had several resetted chars in our group, instadeaths on second floors because of broken legs and one guy had disconnects every 20 minutes or so, now all that seems like a bad memory. And all that without a client update, so I guess they did patch servers. Loot respawing needs more time, but also got a start and is evolving, that's a really big one for me. Of course not all is great, but I see progress. -
Most seem to share your opinion, but if you play along you might not lose anything or even get rewards, I had a shotgun with ammo yesterday and held up a dude I caught eating upstairs in one of the smaller brownish houses. After explaining to him how raising his hands works, telling him to strip and move away from the gear, I made sure he could not shoot me in the back and left. The problem with geared players is that they are sooo scared that they absolutely refuse to surrender in almost all situations, so pew, pew, pew, and if the hold up was not executed totally shitty they die. The one time I did surrender when I was geared turned out to be the best experience I ever had in DayZ. But that's a different story. I think ppl should surrender more often, when others get the drop on them. They already did not get shot on sight, that might be a good sign. When they are ungeared, they can just see what happens, will not loose all that much. If they are really geared, but the other(s) outwitted them, chances of survival (including gear) might be better than if they run for it or engage, depending on the situation. Either way, I almost celebrate every such situation, no matter what side I'm on. I like to have a change sometimes from the default pew, pew, pew. I can count all the successful hold ups I experienced with my fingers, so... .

That certainly is an argument. But (now we get to really personal opinions) I think logging in towns in not smart. Of course there are times when you loose connection, server restarts,... . Currently IF I have to log in towns, I do log outside, between fences, bushes, ... maybe that is not smart, but I hate appearing in buildings ;). That may very well change, if zeds get more and react better with improving AI. I just hope the servers will actually support more zeds...like many more. Somehow I fear the figures mentioned (10k or even 30k) and having hords roaming forest will not work very well considering performance. ;( But I also have no idea how many we currently have on the map, I read somewhere that there are 450 animals or so - can hardly believe that there's so many.
-
I don't think that would help against hopping, we do 100m in less than 10 seconds ;). But I think it might prevent ppl logging in behind you in a cleared prison etc. I think someone mentioned already forcing spawns to outside of buildings, that would also help for that though... . Somehow I get the feeling that timers are the main answer as I read more and more suggestions.

LITERALLY EVERYONE is only currently effected because it is a bug that came with the last update. I THINK you just have to wait long enough, servers show up in the list and then vanish, show up again....wait until the ingame clock shows progress in minutes until you join, like 14:01. That's a sign that the server is actually up again and (again I THINK) you should be save. If you join the server directly while it is going through those up and downs, you loose your gear because you joined a server that is just going though those up and downs, not because you did not switch servers. Not wanting to wait and simply selecting a different one in such situations is not what this thread is about. The next military area (Pavlovo) is 2,5km away (don't forget the prison in Chapaevsk on the way to Balota), you can easily do that in 10 minutes. Also Komarovo has a police station and is practically on the way. From Pavlovo military base it's five minutes to Zelenogorsk, there is also a police station there. Again 5 minutes to Green Mountain. From there 10 minutes to Veresnik. From there to the nwaf 5 minutes. Running up there on the west will also lead you across many possible chopper crash locations. Now those minutes I mentioned (estimated) mean that you have to run pretty straight there. That would mean increasing the chance of being shot. Of course hopping will take that danger mostly out of the equation. Wonderful. "This is not in any way a problem." - exactly why not?

The mod has been out for quite a while. The community's feelings...those who dupe feel it's ok to do it, everyone can do it. Those who look through walls feel it's ok to do it, everyone can do it - well not so well any more, but that's besides the point. Those who glitch into walls feel it's ok, everyone can do it. Even some of those who hack feel like they are doing the right thing, after all they bring justice to the bad kos bandits that need to be stopped for the better of the game. This is not about feelings, this is about balance, there is a reason why the loot is distributed the way it is or it would be different. Those who loot hop exploit the current system just like those who dupe: They gear up faster as intended with the loot distribution. Maybe not as fast, but at least dupers don't leave the servers they visited with empty military areas. Maybe instead of feelings you can describe just what is wrong with the current loot Just out of interest, what mod did you play mostly and how hard was getting military loot there? I have seen servers (Epoch), where I had a full inventory after running 50 meters and that included the choice between 2 assault rifles that I had mags for. Oh, let's not forget spawning with rilfes and ammo.
-
Animations when you press a button to activate them, fine. But I have no wish for animations the char simply does because I am idly sitting in a tree at the nwaf trying to figure out, if it is safe to go on or not. Movement can mean death in such situations. Either way, I don't think more animations are absolutely neccessary at this point, low priority as far as I am concerned, nice to have.

A splint does the job, these days morphines are only interesting as loot, because the only use 1 slot compared to splints. Splint: rags + sticks - a 100% bandage MAY also work instead of the rag. I think the sawn of Mosin is really interesting, if you carry a regular mosin as main rifle and don't double yield. Of course other thins are better as a sidearm (FNX and such), but it is certainly better than only having a normal mosin when going into buildings. But shoot it a few times to test it, it hits quite a bit above where you are aiming.

I read your post mainly as "I hop myself and gear up that way, we lack transportation and it sucks. All that running around does not seem appealing to me, especially when you go somewhere and it is already looted." DayZ will always be a running simulator that will never change, are you sure the game itself is even appealing to you? Somehow it sound like you can only bear the game because you can expoit the loot spawn system by hopping servers. Moving through the map while trying to survive (not talking about food, but REALLY making sure that you are not killed on the way) is boring. Also playing not geared or "half geared" not having the most powerful weapon is not appealing, because otherwise you would probably just play and not hop any more. You will not (at least not on the public vanilla hive) spawn just 50 meters next to a functional car that is just waiting there for you. If you and your clan or whatever have a base and vehicles and someone picks you up, good for you. But I don't know exactly how you think this will work even in such cases, will you just drive your car up to the nwaf ATC, jump out, everyone just sprints in a different direction, you loot the whole airfield in 3 minutes and then drive to Balota instead of hopping to the next nwaf as it is done currently? Unless you play on totally empty servers, I don't think that will work so great. For me carefully doing a whole nwaf run takes longer than running there in the first place, and I don't do it mainly for loot, I hope/fear to get good fights there - also a way to get loot btw. I expect to have weapons (and no, you don't need a fully pimped M4 all the time) long before having cars. No idea how long fuel will last, but maybe I will sometimes hunt around gas stations in the future... . I see vehicles as a luxury that will most likely reduce your life expectancy quite a bit if you just speed through Chernarus all day. But maybe I am wrong and ppl will drive around in jeeps hunting others like the drunk kangoroo hunters in Crocodile Dundee. Maybe you will be your groups designated driver, but stay clear of the beer then. Somehow I think there are different types of players, two polar opposites being those who spawn and play the game and those who spawn, run to a high loot area, hop until they are geared (whatever that means) and then play the game all the while having destroyed the loot balance on the last 5 servers they visited. I killed ppl who had enough gear for a whole family, well, admittedly "only" two rifles, but everything else. One had 10+ gorka pants all full of stuff and he was still hopping the nwaf, logged in just 50 meters south of the hangars. In the end I just took 5 or 6 of his pants and ran for it, looting at the airstrip there for longer did not seem smart. He had 5 or 6 canteens, food for weeks, 4 full ammo boxes, 4 AK scopes. ... and that was only half of it, as I said, I left half the pants there. Yes, play style should not be influenced, do whatever you want. It's an extreme example, but just how many nwafs did that guy clear of military loot? And yes, he could only take 2 rilfes, he had "only" a few vests, but still. What about the idiot (like me) that just ran there through the whole map? Probably somewhere here on the forum complaining that scopes and ammo don't spawn at military areas any more... . What is this? Which one of the ideas on the last 6 pages, or all? Can't be all, you would have written "these" then... Private slices/hives are exactly not what is discussed here. Everyone is aware that private slices with only one server (a private hive, I guess that is how they will implement them) will have no server hoppers. It's fine if that is a solution for you, but I want to stay in the public hive, and the reasons for that are again a complete different discussion and there is no reason to discuss them here. And btw, if your argument is private hive, why not propose a server switch penalty of 5 hours? That would be less limiting than private hives and surely also discourage loot hoppers. That is a terrible idea, but still better than private hives in the sense that at least you can still switch servers... . EDIT: I'm getting aggitated and frustrated again resulting in monster-posts...
-
You started this thread with an idea on how to stop server hopping. Now you say "ah man, let's just do private hives, all problems solved". Why start the thread in the first place then, that you will have one char in private hives was clear beforehand. I don't understand this.

bauertschi replied to Shrub Rocketeer ™'s topic in General Discussion
The pig is the unicorn of dayz. Simple. He once ran to a pig, the pig ran away right into the backyard of a house, stopped there and so led him to berries. A pig leading a survivor to food is massive! The unspoken message then was that berries are better than bacon. He thanked the pig and they parted ways. Other miracles have been reported, like pigs taking aggroed zeds away from survivors. The pig is obviously the purest thing in DayZ, a true unicorn, a good soul. The heroest hero can't compare to a pig! -
I guess my most suicidal thing was jogging up and down the old neaf landing strip shooting into the air again and again to attract someone. Also yelled "Free loot, just shoot me!" again and again. When my mag was empty, I even yelled that... . The server was completely full. I was so angry that we had not met a single soul in hours - and we were in Svetlo before that. No one came :(
-
When I started DayZ I ran directly into Electro three times or so - never again. I was roaming Berezino then - before the crowds came there. Then I went into the west, somehow it took months for me to even think about going into Electro again. I have not once seen a sniper there on any hill. That must be a boring live for sure on those hills. If checking Electro sniper hills is asking for death these days, then I have no idea what I am doing all day long ;) I'm the most suicidal idiot out there probably.

Removal of the crosshair or even making it too invisible (already dangerously so) leads to one thing: Ppl blue-tacking their monitors. No anti cheat software will find it and it is easy. It only hurts legit players to a point where I actually think it is ok to blue-tack your monitor because everyone does it. And that's coming from a dude who refuses to look through walls... I think "hip" fire is too accurate, just increase dispersion when it is used.

bauertschi replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Who, where, what, how, why? EDIT: when? -
There have been good arguments against placing ppl away from where they were. Abuse to leave danger zone... . I think everyone here has a different opinion on how long the intervals should be / how often you can switch servers without penalty. 3 servers an hour is easily enough to loot hop nwaf, unless you really run through the whole thing without a care in the world. But even then you are hard pressed to do it in 20 minutes, I think.
-
It may not be easy, but when I play with my friends and we get desync/lag (often enough) they don't start running around fast to catch up to the actual location when we get synced again, they simply get teleported there (seen from my client). If you see someone running in extreme speed for more than 1 sec, I'd say cheater. Now if you see someone teleport around like an idiot, there is still teleportation hacks, pretty convincing videos, in the hacker threat, so: There is a pinned threat for this in the General Discussion.

It still worked in 0.47 (if not, then 0.46 or 0.45...). Unless I am mistaken they got faster in 0.48. You can still kill animals in melee if you run up to it and immediatelly hit it AND the server is laggy enough. If the server is laggy enough, the animal will not start running away before you hit it. I recall killing at least 2 deer in 0.48 with axes. Sometimes it takes a few tries. Best try on completely full servers, if you want to test that. If there is no server lag, you will not be successful. In an earlier release I beat a cow to death with a machete, took forever. They were really slow. I think all animals were the same (slow) speed back then.
