    Get off the coast

Great response, but to be fair, when I was new, almost all spawns were between three mountains and the solnichny factory. I went south not to get lost -> died a few times in Electro. So I went north, found the food house just south of berezino. That started getting me going. I was extatic, and the first time I filled a canteen at the well at the red cafe, a dude axed me from behind :). But I started to remember where things are. Did that run for a few lives and kept exploring more. A few hours later I went to the neaf for the first time. So my area or operation got bigger and bigger. I really think it is not the easiest thing and might be even counter productive to just run somewhere without knowing where. If you have no points you recognize, then you also don't learn the map. Now who I could never understad though were those staying in Electro / Cherno / Berezino after having some hours experience though. Oh how I loved the old neaf ;(.
  2. I am not really that sure if it is actually tougher, as I wrote earlier. But the amount of loot is still shard-dependant. Some private shards still have funny things like extremely little loot or even no loot at all. When I see twitch streamers on public, I don't think it is actually tougher at all, they have about anything you could whish for. Either way, there are ppl struggling to get food the normal "looting around" way on some servers, and when your teammate says "Let's hunt them, maybe they have food." (wrote that above) it seems kind of obvious that loot (food) distribution does in fact influence playing styles. On the shard we were playing on there was only loot at police cars earlier that day, nothing else at all. Later there was a little loot, but not like on public. Different shards / servers in private shards are not the wonderland that public is. I don't think we got any extreme loot problems right now on public, really, when I played on there, everything was achievable. I don't mind if it gets tougher in the future, some high end pvp loot could be less available as far as I am concerned, but it will definitely influence the play style of ppl.

    Food Comparison Chart

well, I suspected that some values on dayzdb are not up to date anymore. Figured that getting from really hungry to not hungry in less than 10 apples proved that...nice info.

Truck Tires pops 3 feet away from the tree

Actually it's the trees. The trees you find in forests are ok, but these have huuuuge hitboxes when driving - is hitbox the right term there? Once tried to drive in between two of those that were quite far apart ... great fail there. I'm not sure about apple trees, might also be bad. Either way, it's the type of tree imo. Just try there REAL size by driving up to one of those slowly and you will see when you bump into them.

How to be a super genius

I still go with morphine/splint as well as rags at least in my pants AND the backpack ... hopefully in a medkit for additional protection in the backpack. Pants get ruined more often, sure, but you will be happy when someone shot you in the back, broke your arm and you still have a working splint in the pants to use before engaging the enemy. Of course there is always running away, but sometimes you are just pinned down and you want a working arm for aiming then.
  6. First of all, I am not sure about the increased difficulty, got almost not probs with zeds, because stealth works. Ppl also get enough loot now, the first week had bugged servers concerning loot. Most things are still quite common, now we even have a cooking tripod and a pot. Only food still seems to be less frequent in the normal spawns, so we are actively looking for meat, pumpkin seeds, .... . But a lot of kos is about players being scared. Scared players shoot, and they are usually scared of other players shooting them. So if the gear they "worked hard for" and the fact that they managed to get highly energized is more important, they are more likely to shoot. My teammate died today, he ran back to us, we gave him as much food as we had. Then one spotted players and he said, something like "Let's hunt them, maybe they have food." The harder the game gets, the more scared ppl will be concerning loosing their char and I think that will result in more kos, also the "maybe they have food" says it all. Or course there is also the opposite way, if survival is just no problem at all, ppl have nothing to do but shoot each other or go to some RP server. There is a sweet spot somewhere there, where kos related to how hard pve is is at it's lowest, I just think that rare food is a motivation for more kos. But food rarity is only one pve factor, so... EDIT: There are players who prefer starvation to picking apples, I really don't get that.

    Does DayZ need aeiral transport?

I did not read the whole thread, for those interested these are my "other" reasons that were asked for: I do not see any survivalish sense in ppl flying around in helis / planes. Do we really need helis to pick up ppl from the coast while clans battle it out, fly them to their bases, where they re-equip and then fly them back to the fight? Ok, that is over the top, but what will helis / planes bring to the gameplay instead of being some kind of minigame? Well unless they are really used as support for large scale battles, but that is not what I envision DayZ. Another thing is that no one can just simply fly a heli or a plane. No problem with driving land vehicles, handling guns, making a plot and plant stuff, that's all not rocket science. Some of the advanced crafting is also unrealistic to be accomplished by regular ppl, but fine. But simply flying a plane or heli should end in a crash and nothing else. Repairing vehicles will also be unrealistic, but doing the same with planes or helis...yepp. One thing aerial vehicles can be really used for I predict is looking for tents / bases. For that purpose they will probably be OP I guess, you can probably see tents quite well from the top.

    My Best Ideas

Some nice ideas! Don't know if rebel camps are neccessary, but I like the first 5 thoughts. Concerning ear protection, I hope ringing ears would go away again, unrealistic to get permanently deaf from the few shots you find in chernarus. Problem is, someone has to implement all the stuff. For example from gameplay perspective, I don't know if the better gameplay vs work ratio with broken legs is really worth it, there is still a lot more important stuff to do imo.

    Can this PC run DayZ?

forgive me, but I am very sceptic about that. Both CPU and graphics card have about half the performance of my components ... and while my CPU is enough, I could definitely need more graphics power. I am not talking about the best of the best, my graphics card (HD5770) was €100 3 years ago, but the R7 M265 with only half the power will have real trouble with dayz sa. And the CPU is also ... well ... really slow. If you want acceptable performance, you will probably either have to spend quite a bit more money on a "gaming" laptop or go for a desktop ... performance for the same money is quite a bit better with a desktop, but that would also mean getting a monitor and I do not know what the topic creator really wants. Either way, I cannot imagine that laptop giving acceptable performance.

    Can this PC run DayZ?

Everything about a missing graphics card as mentioned above is true, REALLY forget playing DayZ SA with that thing. Also, the cpu is a i5, fine, but it is a U version ... power saving and slow ... 2.2GHz would also suck in DayZ. Seriously do not buy this Laptop, IF you want to play DayZ with it. Also not concerning DayZ, the thing is a little overpriced for its features, but it is a Dell, a good brand, just a bit on the expensive side. Upside is the slim design and that it is a Dell...usually doesn't break 2 months after warranty. Nevertheless, concerning bang for the buck, I would not buy that laptop. And I repeat myself ... that thing is not built for gaming in general, certainly not for DayZ. It is a very interesting thing if you travel to and from work every day with the train for 1.5h for example ... slim, power saving (not cooking your balls when on your lap), doing the job.

    Forum names = no kos

Well, my current ingame name is something like k+klasdfkjfaen. Not quite sure, but it starts with a k and there is a + in there somewhere in the beginning :). Killed a dude named Smash yesterday on Epoch, immediatelly thought of this forum, lol. Names are a funny thing.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

I'm talking about BI checking it and banning additionally to the butt hurt admin that already banned on his server. That's a difference. If the proof is there, use it.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

It always supprises me when ppl are talking about evidence but only think about the one server they administer. Why not introduce the ability to combine server logs and video proof for bohemia and they issue a global ban? Now I'm starting with assuming again, but assuming BI can check who was moving around where by accessing the server logs, players could provide video proof with server info and time.

    More spray anyone ?

Simple words: As long as duping and item cheating are not out and REALLY proven to be out for a while, having rare items in the game is bullshit. Cheaters will have them, legit players not so much. Simply hoping that cheating and duping will be gone in the future and going on with the argument like those problems will not exist is ridiculous. The kos thing is just how it changes gameplay and while I am certainly not a goody hero, quite the opposite really, even I think we do not need more incentive to kos. So I simply pointed out how such rare items (that are really rare and therefore don't really add to the gameplay most of the time) will have negative results elsewhere. Hopefully this post is easy enough to decipher.

    More spray anyone ?

The concept of rarity as you call it is the problem, at least when you assume it will not be broken. I don't care if the rare item appears once in a while as long as it stays rare. Cheating is the problem, an undeniable one. Your idea of removing items that excess amount limits is most absurd: Cheater x gives himself rare item y. Server checks, "hey, there should only be 30 of those in the hive! I'll remove it from random player z". Problem solved. Random player z was legit and found rare item x once in 200 hours. Rage QUIT! FUCK THIS GAME! All the while cheater c wants item y and decides to cheat himself one...IF cheaters have the ability to get such rare items, they will be the only ones having such items with the system you proposed, maybe even removing them from other cheaters until they loose them again, but hey, when they need them, just cheat the items again. So we have op rare items that only cheaters have. Even worse than now as far as I'm concerned. At least with duping items are not removed from legit players. I got an idea: Why don't we wait with super rare op items (that are obvioiusly not neccessary to play the game) until beta or final stage. Then we look if duping and creating stuff from thin air with cheats is resolved, let's just see if we get to a point where such things were not going on for 6 months or so. If and only if aquireing items through cheating is gone for such a period of time, then we can argue about sense and senselessness of items that are immensly rare. It's still funny (not referring to your post anymore) that people still argue with the difference between an item being common and an item being merely included in DayZ. I mean, how do people not realize... in this day and age... that these are two different issues completely in theory, but not in reality. It gives the middle finger to the legit player finding a 100-round mag only once a month while cheaters have them all the time. As long as rarity is not being proven to work against cheats and duping, the concept is interesting but not usable. Another thing is what do rare items do with the gameplay. It is hard to trust and too many encounters end per default in death before a word was exchanged. At least a lot of ppl argue that way. Now what happens when rare items are mixed in? They are usually all on players, as soon as the hive decides that there enough of them out there. So on top of all reasons we currently have to kos instead of talking, there is one more, because the only way to get rare items is from other players - usually out of their sticky dead hands.

    More spray anyone ?

Not sure how big a variety of guns is really good for the game. But figuring out how the guns work that were constructed to be used by everyone recruted including the not so smart seems easy to me compared to surviving in the wilderness. No one is complaining about how most survivors should simply not make it and die off. Guns are not rocket science to use.

Just read the post again and again until you figure out just how great it is. Wonderful post, but a little evil, I just could not give beans to such devilish good looks, I mean such a devilish post.

Where do I go to find PVP right now?

Sniping spot. Sometimes I wonder just how many snipers you can place around the nwaf with none being able to see another. No wonder ppl want 150ppl servers. Meh. Just carefully hunt around the nwaf, vibor base, ... . Berezino (even without cheaters) means that there will be bambis running around without a care about surviving. Thinking about it, there will be geared players running around without a care about surviving. The pvp is different when ppl care. I don't like that Berezino circlejerk, but whatever floats your boat. Don't overthink it and have fun.

    More spray anyone ?

While I currently favour the AK101, I say +1 for (mosin with LRS and sidearm - I prefer FNX) as the most dangerous combination. I once again tried an AKM spray against a dude running away with a mosin from about three meters last week. All 30 bullets gone, just like the dude, I hit him once and he was bleeding. Had to reload the mag and the gun and then put him down from about 30 meters with two aimed shots, he actually went down with the first. If he went further away instead of trying to hide and then loudly bandaging, I would have not chased after him. Spraying works only for ppl that are not me or that or not spraying at me, cause that also does not end well usually. What I expect to come later is a dexterity malus for drum mags, like for the bipod. What I absolutely hate about the announcements is the range finder. As if lying somewhere far away in a tree is not advantagous enough, now those can also zero perfectly. Not a good game when everyone is just sitting in a tree because that style of play is op. Now the only thing missing will be body odor seeking sniper bullets, not like there is a high standard of hygiene in the west. And I have not once found toilet paper...yes body (and other) odor seeking bullets are missing. Forgot: Even if loot is rare, there is hopping (mentioned above), obvious. But what about duping if it shows up again and again? What about hacks getting the stuff out of thin air? Absolute rarity does not make op items better.

Why does 'feeling the pulse' reveal the name?

I don't understand exactly how the game should know that you were detected. What if you try to hide after that and the name follows you while you try to run through trees and take a sharp turn to the left? It literaly happens that ppl have you in their scope and don't spot you. I think I remember Dean talking in a stream about how you might get a message like "you know that guy", "seems familiar", or something when you interact with ppl you interacted with earlier, but they were just throwing ideas, I think. We will see, what we will get, I guess, but I am somewhat scared or names floating over heads and letting the system decide just when it doesn't matter. Really reminds me of Battlefield and it helps following ppl you want to kill after spotting them.
  21. bauertschi

Why does 'feeling the pulse' reveal the name?

Nonononononononono, do you know how often ppl litterally run over you, when you are lying in a tree, sitting in a bush,... . That would be a game breaker. The player died/fell unconscious and already has pressed respawn before you checked. There have already been suggestions to keep the name on dead bodies, even after they respawned or quit.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

I don't think the sales have dropped dramatically, this very moment DayZ is topseller number three on steam, I don't think it ever went under place 5 since release unless for a short time when a few new titles came out or some games were drastically reduced and selling well because of that. Yes, the 1 mil in 1 month or so is over, but it continues to sell great. Usually I would say it's top three. Two or three days ago it was even the topseller. I just hope they never drastically reduce DayZ or there will be many licenses bought for future use...great for hackers. I think there was a considereable amount of players that stopped playing with 47 and 48, basically 70% or our group. Not because of hacks, but because of melee, zeds killing you through walls and from different floors, ... . Because of that I installed the mod, so whatever statistics are made concerning total players, take into account that 47 and 48 drove away quite a lot of ppl, not forever, but for the current releases. All in all I don't think we have enough insight into sales, active player numbers and reasons for ppl taking breaks to make any claims in such directions - or the opposite direction, whatever.
  23. bauertschi

Why does 'feeling the pulse' reveal the name?

Irl we would be able to identify ppl, if we get to see them close enough. Feeling the pulse is close enough. If you do it again some time later and see the same name, then you would also have realised that it's the same person irl, you get the name ingame and therefore know it's the same person. I think that was the explanation I heard some time ago, don't ask me where though. It's authenticity, who get's so close to someone should be able to identify the person.

Character Retirement and personal Hall of Fame

Welcome to the forum. When I started on your post I immediatelly thought, "Ah, a new player, 12h is nothing, certainly no fame, ...". But further down your reasoning became clear. Hm, I don't really know about idea here. I keep track of all my PvP kills and deaths, record all my gameplay and if something worthy happens, I cut the video out. The problem is, there are about 130 entries there now. Your hall would explode at some point. Things you considered great at the beginning become mediocre. Even without vids, such a hall of fame would not be able to replace my diary... . Now concerning your whish to start over, that is something I understand and often think myself. For me the solution is simple, go more aggro in pvp ;) If you really don't want to do that, do something else that might result in your death, but is still worthwhile. Just thinking of the hat, I could imagine you going to three valeys or so and search for bambis. Lurk, hide, stalk and try to find a worthy one to give all your gear to. Then you might still be energized or hydrated, even though you could try to keep that down, too, when it gets clear that you will soon go to the east. There are two possible outcomes. You die and start fresh, or you don't die and start naked but with probably a little more energy and hydration than usually. It would also allow you to figure out friendly approaches better. You could keep your playing style and look how often you can do that without dieing. Maybe that's and idea for you or not, don't know. I somehow doubt we will get the option to retire characters, and I think that's ok so.

Filling magazines with rounds should take time (animations)

The ingame Mosin has a bent bolt. Here is a picture: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosin-Nagant#mediaviewer/File:Mosin_Nagant_series_of_rifles.jpg The one with the PU has a bent bolt, the others the normal one. Would be kind of funny if only ever tenth Mosin would fit a scope because of that in DayZ :) ... and only a PU of course.
