Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
bauertschi replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
currently confused. -> I had installed experiental and was playing in svetloyarsk on a public hive server yesterday: zeds were not really plentiful and I managed not to be in real trouble. I was on a server where a cheater killed me later. -> changed to a different server because of the cheater and installed stable in steam: more zeds, way more respawning and attacking again when killing zeds in melee, was often in melee agains 2 or 3. Why the difference? What was different on my end: - had experimental installed first, then stable - first Svetlojarsk, now Berezino - different servers, first one with a cheater, is it possible they changed things on the server side? The most obvious answer is probably that Svetlojarsk has a lower zed population, but at the offchance that that is not the case, I decided to post this. It might also explain why some people thing zeds are still no trouble at all and others think they are really hard now without a good melee weapon. Oh, I also got onehitted by a zed with a jumping attack in Svetlojarks once. If servers might not all really be the same due to manipulation (cheater server?), that might also be relevant. I wrote about that at some earlier post and I was really quite healthy at the time. Notjust blood, also health. -

I don't think that making player to steam account references visible for users would be useful. Might also keep you from getting that new job when the human resources guy find's out that you were that bandit feeding him disinfectant :). Don't those dudes use throw away steam accounts with throw away email adresses? I surely would. The nickname being the same would also be a problem for streamers. They would be hunted to the extreme. If throw away steam accounts are used, that would be useless anyway. I never tried to create a steam account with fake information, but I'm sure it's not that hard. I think I read somewhere that there was already a ban wave on cheaters in SA. I think the only thing to keep them out is a high detection rate with account deletion AND very important: not making the game any cheaper. It must hurt to be found out. If you can buy a new russion key on ebay for $5.-, then it does not hurt. If it is $30.- and cheaters are regularily caught, reinvesting money is painful. I know that sounds really harsh, I also don't want to pay a lot for my games. But I saw an interview with a hack coder who makes BF3 hacks on youtube and he said that "all those cheaters" have throw away accounts and simply buy new cheap russian keys for the basic game when they are caught. And I think the interview was real, it was detailed, long and believable in its content. -

Thanks for clearing that up. That essentially meanst that I am currently playing with my experimental installation on regular servers...didn't think that was possible unless stable and experimental are the same. And I thought they currently weren't. Switching back to stable did just now at least not trigger a steam download. -

on experimental: cheater alarm A few dayz ago I saw a video on youtube with a guy sniping at some people. Then after some time - he was not very successful at sniping - one of the guys put his jetpack on and did a Boba Fett flying to the sniper and shooting him with his m4 and being pretty accurate when doing it taking into account his speed and volatile mode of transportation. I thought - wow, but hopefully not a very common practice. I just went into the school in Krasnostav and a guy was hiding in a small room you cannot enter: Enter school through wide main entrance -> go ground floot, directly on the left the first door, white wood with a vertical stripe of glas in it.I shortly tried to get in there but did not manage to, did not linger though. I only found him because zeds startet to attack him and he decided to use his mosin. So there are three zeds that - thank god - do have the ability to walk through walls ;) attacking him and finally offing him. He was then sliding across the floor a few meters again and again, saw that before when people died. So it was not just a haluzination, he was in there. At that point I was also not sure that he was cheating, he might just have glitched into the room somehow. I decided to quickly loot the building and leave. Did not manage that because when I arrived at the second floor Boba Fett all of a sudden is flying outside shooting me with a mosin. I combat logged (I don't think any one will complain about me taking away game experience from the attacker in this particular case), but after checking some time later, I was a bambi standing at the sea again, so I was long enough on the server for him to kill me. Questions: How far are anti cheat mechanics / when will they be added, is there a roadmap / is there a way to help identify and ban those people? I mean, you can't just read their names... . In case the server has to be manipulated for something like that, here is its data: Server: CZ/SK TheLastSurvivors.cz - Hardcore IP: 82.96.119.202 But I guess that won't help. Generally it's one thing to have cheaters on Battlefield or something, you don't really loose anything. Here you loose more, so that sucks. That character, may he find peace in the afterlife, turned out to be a real f****** badass in the face of danger. Cherno will miss him. -

Thanks, but I was talking more about video recording. I would love to watch those two bandit wannabes die again that tried to rob me after pretending to be friendly. And again. And again.... It was great when that one dude startet to hit me with a baseball bat and the other started yelling, that that is not neccessary, because he has handcuffs. I mean I'm the absolute pvp noob and always far too trusting in dayz. A screenshot of that would be rather pointless, but a video... I hearby give the feedback that shotguns work great in close quarters. -

I have experimental installed, don't know if it is different from stable at the moment though, because I think I was on a normal server... Ok, I already left the awesome zed feedback in the post-patch-zombie-feedback thread. Short: One waited outside a corner pub, watching me through the window. When I moved in the direction of the door, it went there too and actually entered through it. Awesome! Besides that it was the smoothest gameplay up to this date for me. I did not have a single rubberbanding. The server was more than half full. Yesterday it was great for rubber enthusiasts even when I was with only five other people on the server. Also close quatter pvp against two other players on the roof of a police station was great. I really need to find a low weight screen capture software... -

Is experimental and stable currently the same again? I have experimental installed... This last hour playing was the best ever. The zeds start not to run through houses EDIT - I mean walls. Had one waiting at the window at a corner pub. When I moved into the direction of the door, it also went there and come through the door. It was great! I was supprised though at how few actually attacked me. I can only guess that their sight was limited. Does rain impair their senses? Whatever you guys did, it was a monumental leap in gameplay to be ablte to sneak around them and see them actually coming through (some) doors. One even ran up to the first floot of the police station, don't know if they did that before. -

Oh I forgot. I of course expect every zed within 3 km to race to helicopter landing points. That is definitely neccessary. -

bauertschi replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
I was really hoping stuff like helicopters would not make it into SA. Yes I know, it was there in the mod. But really. Just consider how survivor John Doe finds a car and uses it to drive to the next town. Maybe John can even repair smaller problems. Yepp, alright. Let' imagine the same John Doe find's a helicopter. Even assuming the thing is all right, how long will it take him to figure out how to get it flying? Let us assume further he managed to leave ground. Do you really think he will manage to even fly in the direction he wants to go? How high is the probability that he will crash within a minute? Or his chances of a save landing if he manages not to crash immediately? I mean there are people in this forum complaining about maximum horizontal movement of being to unrealistic with raw input, it has to be slower and harder to aim a rifle. I am not complaining about such arguments, but if we want "realism", then let's stick with it: Put in helicopters with - random machine or other failures, after all no one is maintaining them - give one out of several thousand survivors the ability to fly those things (he/she should then also know about that, acquired the skill in their previous life) - estimate the chances of successfully flying it for the rest of the survivors and let them die if they are not extemely lucky - give some survivors (also very few) the ability to check and repair helicopters, decreasing the chance of machine or other failures All other things in the game are pretty basic, even if one would need training. There is guns, hinting, using an axe or other stuff as melee weapons, driving bicycles or cars, cooking, barricading... . Helicopters are something else entirely. Finally, does it really enrich the game? I can't imagine that. But maybe I am just too noobish. But for me all those experienced dayz gamers here that complain about whining of noobs and insisting that this is not some CoD should fight with all their might against the inclusion of helicopters in the game. Planes is a similar topic, but if someone held a gun to my head and said "Jump into the plane or helicopter and fly the that place over there five miles in that direction or I will shoot you", I would instinctively take the plane. But the same question, will planes enrich the game? -

Objects should definitely have different kinds of affinity for getting ruined. I can easily see that a bag of powdered milk is destroyed in a zed attack, but I can't get it into my head just how a Magnum should be damaged even slightly by a zed. -

experimental: unsuspected death due to zombie :( My more than a month old char is gone. Ok, I admit, I did not play for a few weeks until restarting last friday... . situation: pretty good gear: bal. helmet, wool jacket, army 6 slot west thingy, cargo pants, gloves... health: full, always completely drunk and soon joining weight watchers problem: 4 zeds Until today, no problem: - 1st zed may have hit me once, don't really remember - a little time, maybe 30 seconds - 2nd zed did not hit me - a little time, maybe 10 seconds - 3rd zed hit me, maybe even twice, but I think only once -> - bleeding for maybe 15 seconds - pain in leg, checked with SKS aiming, yep, broken bone - starting to bandage At that point there may have been a hint of less color, but only marginally. In the past 30 seconds or so was enough to heal a zed hit. Of course the bandaging took so long that a fourth zed I had not spotted or heard before reached me before I could get back up. - 4th zed -> jump attack - >"You are dead." Seriously, I was not worried in the slightest when I saw the zombie jumping at me. One or two hits, I was almost at full health, the little blood loss from the bleeding and the zeds before did really not seem problematic, I'm repeating my self, but I was really almost at full color. Health could also not have been the problem, I was fine and stuffed with food and liquid to the extreme for hours. So why did I die? Do zed attacks vary (so much) in damage? Is there a lucky punch feature? Is the jumping zed a problem when you kneel, like it hitting your head and dealing extra damage? It was not shock, I was not unconcious but immediately dead. The only thing I could come up with was a sniper timing a headshot to hit directly when the zed did, but that is unrealistic, I only heard one hit and when I waited for some time, I heard nobody looting my body. Have others had such experiences? Yes some people were writing that 6 or 8 zeds killed them, but that was really unexpected with just that hint of grey. -

So, tried experimental again for about 30 minutes. Had several rubberbanding moments / chains, don't know if everyone seemed to be connected to zeds, but there was one pretty clear phenomena. A zed was standing about 50m in front of me, not aggroed yet but looking in my general direction. So I decided to quickly go into the building right next to me, but no open-door option was possible. After about 2 more seconds the zombie decided to go after me, I killed it and big surprise, the door would open again. One rubberbanding orrured several times and finally stopped when there was all of a sudden a zed standing in the street where none was before. Maybe it just spawned there. While several people here argued that they had rubberbanding without any zeds anywhere, I still belief that zed interaction does have to do with the problem. But maybe I'm wrong and it's just the final nail in the coffin of a system running at its limit. Whatever the limiting factor may be. I think zeds now have a higher chance of hitting you when you try to evade to the side, but maybe that's just my luck and some desync stuff. I also watched two of them running on the sidewalk until the end of the fence and then changing the direction to come after me. Is there some object stuff being done that results in them running around things? That happened in Svetlojarsk at the town center where the church is. Now guys don't come running just to kill me there, please. Concerning loot balancing, I found so many SKSes this morning and now, it's frightening. The houses were all looted but the SKSes were still lying around. Don't even want to think about how geared up all those players are. A little request, if possible. It would be nice to have a seperate char for experimental again. With the desync, zed testing, ... my main char is like more than a month old, I really don't want to kill it but it would be interesting to see how life as a new spawn is in experimental. EDIT: I really only play hardcore, so I could use my regular char, but I REALLY disllike that being able to look around corners, over walls without being seen. When someone wants to spot me, he/she really should have to show his/her head. -

concerning experimental: Ok, I'll put a limb out there and make a bold statement. I think the rubberbanding problem is caused by some desync or path finding problem with aggroed zeds trying to get you. After logging back on I was rubberbanding back like described above. But i found the zed on the ground floor. I was able to move on AFTER killing it. I had several instances of rubberbanding since, always with zed sounds but the zeds somehow not getting to me. When I was able to find them or they got finally free, attacked me and I killed them, I was able to move on. Happened exactly that way about five times now. Also dropped items don't always spawn in the vicinity. I cannot say if that is connected to the rubberbanding problem, because I only figgured out the connection between aggroed zeds and rubberbanding after loosing my ammunition box. By the mount of occurences of having (at least by sound) aggroed zeds after me and the rubberbanding at the same time with only being able to go on after killing the zeds, I'm pretty sure the connection is there. The question is probably just why the zeds don't reach me. One was like gnawling on my ear in a red brick bar and then was gone. Took probably minutes until he all of a sudden came out and I was able to move on after killing it. -

Ok, news from experimental: I get rubberbanded back into the first floor above a corner pub in Svetlojarsk. First floot right halway, just in (don't know if that is important). All char changes like changed weaponst stay. The interesting thing though is WHEN I get teleported back... I can run around, already attracted a zed that I was not able to find again after rubberbanding back. It's there or at least should be on the floor level of the pub from it's yelling. Can't find it though. Time is not the trigger for the teleportation. Across the street is a piano house. When i go to the door I get teleported back just after the interaction option for door opening is shown. Sometimes I don't even see the option but it would have appeared any millisecond. I always thought that server and client periodically exchange data and when client and server data differ, the client is reset to the server's status. I never really watched things like changing the items in hands and what happens with them when rubberbanding. Even the (invisible and inactive, maybe only my client existing, as it does not attack me) zombie downstairs remains. Only the location seems to be reset and only when the open door option is shown or about to be shown. Rubberbanded back - about 15 times before I decided to log out. -

Troll answer. From the distance you can't be talking about the ping, so you must mean bandwidth. If my bandwidth is the problem then the game will have a problem. A server with two gigabit nics certainly would not be enough to host 40 players. Let's call all the big server distributers and tell them we need at least 10GBit/s for DayZ and they better provide at reasonable prices OR... -

On experimental: I can confirm rubberbanding, did not get stuck though. Once rubberbanded back to the same spot 5 or 6 times. Same trouble with eating. Taking weapons into hands also resulted in runnung forward during the animation time a few times, but not always. I was used to that happening when I was already moving in the past. Now it also occured when I was standing while equipping the weapon. EDIT: Ok, now I'm stuck too. Logged out, wait a few minutes, see if that helps. -

I was afraid of writing the post. I was fearing the responses of people missing it's point and here we have it. Bullseye. @Strawman - thanks for the explanation, I saw the movie but only remember that I considered it time wasted in my life that can never be gotten back. Even your summary does not allow me to recall it better, I seem to really have repressed those memories. But back to the problem. First, I am not a medical expert but such an opening line is great. The original poster is immediately shown as lacking intelligence and all following statements are of hightened value for the audience. "...how awesome is this... xD" If "these are Infected, not Zombies" for Dean, then he should stop calling them zombies, like on March 10th on twitter. There is plenty of arguments thrown around in this forum concerning the question if infected are zombies or not. I don't care. I can only guess that Dean also doesn't care or he would not use the words interchangeably. "not some 1920's Voodoo zombies flick of ultra lame, slow and useless zombies." - How exactly did we get here? My intention was to critizise the often brought up argument that zeds ingame can be fast BECAUSE "they are infected, not zombies". To achieve that I brought up the point that someone with an infection that results in you looking like an ingame zed should actually not be running around like there is absolutely no problem with their health. I also wrote: "Zeds are a fictional thing guys. Traditinally I always saw them as undead that just keep rotting away, but that's just me and results in me having raised eyebrows whenever I see one developing superhuman abilities or just speed even close to a healthy human. That's just my opinion though and irrelevant on how they are in DayZ." INCLUDING: "zeds are a fictional thing" and that how I tradionally see zombies is "irrelevant on how they are in DayZ" I was not (constructively or otherwise) criticizing Dean or influence how he thinks zeds should be ingame. I am critizing the fact that every other post contains some enlightening information about how zeds are infected and can therefore move so fast. Maybe I'm doing this the wrong way. Let me try something new... ...here we go: "Infected zeds are soooooo lame! Just think about how fast undead zombies can run with their super duper unholy gasoline running through their intestines. I bet they can do the 100 meters in 3 seconds, jump easily 30 meters and rip of your little survivor's head with two fingers!!! Run, unholy super duper zed, run!!! Show them infected loosers what a real zed can do!" I'll probably regret writing this, too. I should just stick to game mechanic things and not take part in discussions about how and why zeds are this way or that way. -

I have read several similar statements now about zeds being infected not dead and therefore there is no reason for them to be slower than survivors. Serioulsy, look at them. If you have an infection your body fights it. And get weaker if the infection is a real problem, even a flu can make you feel exhausted. The zeds not only look like they have the flu or do they? The look like they are rotting while standing there. Imagine an infection that completely shuts of your brain and results in you looking the way zeds do. Let's ignore the fact that attacking the brain (behaviour) would probably also influence your motoric abilities to the negative. Seriously, if you get an infection that results in such behavioural changes, you not caring about things like drinking water and the infection starts rotting your flesh - just look at them - exactly how fast do you think you will run? You probably would not be able to lift a finger. Zeds are a fictional thing guys. Traditinally I always saw them as undead that just keep rotting away, but that's just me and results in me having raised eyebrows whenever I see one developing superhuman abilities or just speed even close to a healthy human. That's just my opinion though and irrelevant on how they are in DayZ. But PLEASE stop saying thing things like "hey they aren't dead, only infected! No reason for them to be slower than a healty dude!" If you wanna go down the "realism" road, I would argue that any undead zed should be way faster than an infected. You played the game. You saw how they look. If you have such an infection, you won't be running. -

Just decided to test experimental. Got several rubberband problems, session lost and finally I don't find any servers now. Guess I'll just wait. Several residential buildings are now spawning loot that were not doing so before. Then there was the guy I called out to, talked about the new loot fixes. And after giving him a can opener I was about to offer food when he took his mighty fireaxe from his back and told me to "please sit down, I am a bandit". Well, taking my baseball bat out -> he moves back a little bit -> running for it right into zombie central solved the problem. Resulted in heavy bandage useage and blood loss though. He didn't chase after me. Never played the mod where there was a strict difference between hero and bandit (I at least think there was), but isn't that system gone for good in SA? Or will it come back? I almost feel sorry that I didn't let him rob me. Maybe he decided not to kill me after I was nice to him. Who knows. There he was, standing all manly with his fireaxe and I just don't play along... -

I just checked that. If "fractured" is supposed to be just another status indicator like hydrated or stuffed? There was none yesterday and is none now. I tried clicking on body parts, never done that before. Just thought that maybe there are submenues i had overlooked the last 60 hours...found nothing. I should mention that I did only stay on the server to check this, in that time no message concerning my leg was displayed. But it did not magically disapear when I had to log out yesterday, so I hazard a guess that it's still there. Maybe it's a little wonky like the healthy indicator that is also not always displayed. I am not convinced it is a broken leg because I can run just fine. If you can run with a broken leg, then what was broken when I could only crawl twice? My pelvis? Edit: Tested my aiming, it's fine, don't know if a broken leg should indicate there like a broken arm. Maybe running with a broken leg is just some regression. Also possible. -

Asked the same question yesterday. I currently have pain in my leg, but i can run. The answer yesterday was that you should be able to cure the problem with painkillers and that is not implemented yet. If your arm was broken, my leg is broken. So why can I run? A month or so ago I was moving around via toddler express before I was able to get a splint. Or was it morphine? Don't remember. -

As far as I remember from what Dean said at sacriels youtube vids, you naturally CAN get a heart attack when your blood goes below 500. So when your friend is unconcious you will be able to to check his pulse in the future. If the guy has a heart attack, he will have an unsteady pulse or something that indicates a heart attack. Then a defib will correct the problem. Well, he'll still be unconcious I guess... . The problem with heart attacks as far as I remember is that they will kill you if nobody helps you. KPR will maybe also be implemented, but will only keep you barely alive while someone else is getting a defib. I guess people should only wander around in groups of three or more now, two is ok if they have a defib and accepting of the chance that it might get damaged :). But the interview was quite some time ago, maybe something changed. I can only guess that the whole thing is not implemented yet or is it confirmed that you can check the pulse of people when they lie in the dirt? Either way, if in doubt, do NOT use the defib. It should do more damage than good if the patient doesn't have a heart attack. Or maybe its the kind of fun like forcefeeding disinfectant? And I'm stressing again that the interview was some time ago, lastet hours and I don't neccessarily remember everything correctly.
