Weapons are currently balanced in a way that accommodates for the limited selection of weapons. The M4 is short range, the SKS is medium range and the Mosin is long range. Simple as that. I'm sure that weapons will be balanced to be more like their real-life counterparts in future when there are more weapons to fill in the gaps. I couldn't care less if a Mosin firing some sort of old bullet would be less accurate than an M4 firing some sort of new bullet. It doesn't matter. In regards to the OP, I always go SKS. It's a good intermediate weapon that is fairly effective at most ranges. It's also more difficult, than the M4, to find ammo so there's an added challenge.

A mulitplayer survival game implies PvP, especially given the game's basis in zombie fiction where groups of survivors always clash. PvP isn't mentioned explicitly, sure, but as I said. It's implied. The aim of the game is to survive. Survival may entail the stealing of supplies from other players. As a result, players will feel the need to defend themselves to prevent this from happening. In the game's current state where supplies are plentiful, this particular aspect of survival has, unfortunately, degenerated into KoS. PvP is an integral part of DayZ and has been from the very beginning. Saying that DayZ is 'in no way a PvP game' shows a complete lack of understanding of the survival aspect of the game. And then, after you establish that you have little to no understanding of the game's genre, you call the entire community 'vile'. People like you make me want to become a bandit. You're right that DayZ isn't, or shouldn't be, PvP focused - but to claim with absolute confidence that PvP has no place in the game at all is demonstrably wrong. You got that right.

I'd like this. Would make the canteen considerably more desirable than the water bottle.

No different to any other game. 3pp only provides peripheral vision a meter or two to your left and right. If you compare 1pp and 3pp you'll notice the only difference is that in 3pp you can see your back - there's no change in FOV. You get used to 1pp. It's much more rewarding in my opinion.

I don't drink coffee at all these days. Tea is much nicer. Refreshing. Anywho, back on topic, I suppose.

Vehicles + base building = Battlefield. Got it.

That's an unfortunate typo. I quite like this idea. Perhaps your weapon skill only increases if you actually hit a target? Would make it much harder to exploit. Plus I assume that ammo will become far less common in future, so people are unlikely to want to waste ammo on random zombies.

So in-game camera controls or removal of the head bob?

You serious? Try drinking 6 strong cups of coffee over the course of as many hours, starting at 1am. Tweaks me the fuck out. Now I stick with tea.

I think it's better to keep it simple. I don't think having "how thirsty you feel" and "how thirsty you actually are" is really necessary. However, it could be interesting to introduce a diet system where you'll be healthier - whatever that entails - if you eat a wider variety of food. Once I find a bag of rice I'm set for food. Would be nice if there was an incentive to gather other food types. Perhaps some food types - like soda or canned bacon - could have some negative health effect if consumed in large quantities, encouraging players to look for an optimal food source rather than eating anything that isn't rotten or, as I do, just keep a bag of rice and ignore everything else.

I remember this one time, when I was little, I fell off my bike and scraped my knee. Jam immediately splattered all over my eyes - from where I don't know. It was a pretty bad scrape, but a few seconds of breathing heavily healed me right up.

Interesting idea. I think it'd probably have pretty limited applications, however, even if it were to be implemented. If you simply walk off the side of a building then your forward momentum won't be sufficient to facilitate a roll, thus you'll fall straight down. If you were to, say, sprint off of a roof then you'd be able to roll. Hell, you can see it in Mirror's edge. If you fall straight down you'll likely hurt yourself. However, I do think that changes to fall damage need to be made - and animations showing your character attempting to negate fall damage (like bending legs/ rolling/ etc) would really help immersion.

Wow. That first picture. So authentic. Wish I had photoshop skills of that caliber. Jokes aside, this has been suggested before quite a number of times. Can't say I'm against it. Would be nice to see certain areas only accessible with the right equipment and a radiation contamination zone fits the bill there - either that or an underground complex that has been the victim of a chemical spill or something.

Yes it was. Some people don't have hours to play DayZ. If you'd read my post carefully then you would realise that I disagreed that an hour is too long to find a high loot area. I was agreeing with him on the point that some people don't have time to play DayZ, and I respected his opinion that an hour was too long to find loot but I disagreed with it. And the mature thing to do would be to ignore a troll on the internet, and not give a "my dad is better than your dad" response. Nobody cares.

This is a game forum, not a place for you two to measure dicks. Jingles made an observation - one that is still relevant, by the way, as many people do not have hours and hours to play DayZ - but he was inaccurate in his assessment of your personal life. No need to get upset about it. Regardless, I disagree that an hour is over the top to get to good loot.

I think it might have been back in January. These days I always spawn in Solnichniy whether it be hardcore or regular. I've not played for about a month now, though, so maybe things have changed.
-
It seems that most people spawn in the same area. A while back I spawned in Kamenka. A few minutes later a bunch of my Steam friends connect and they ALL spawn in Kamenka. On another server I spawned at Solnichniy. All of the houses were looted, and after a good 15 minutes of finding absolutely nothing I decide to just kill my character by jumping off the silo. I respawn down the road, exactly where I was when I first joined. Same goes for the very first time I played DayZ and I spawned at Balota. Somebody shoots me, guess where I respawn. It seems that players spawn in clusters. They're not equally dispersed. If spawns along the coast really were random, I don't think freshspawn PvP would be nearly as prevalent.

Join a server. Press P. View players in the server. What about people who want to play on high pop but land on 1/40? This sounds like it'd be far more hassle than it'd be worth. I get plenty of tension playing on 10 player servers, because there's a good chance that I'll actually be able to find loot, and there's a pretty good chance that somebody else will be trying to loot the same area. I've got no interest in waiting 10 minutes because I joined either an over populated server or an underpopulated one.

Neck slot? Can't wait to emulate this fashionable son of a bitch.

Honestly I'd like to see in-game maps have a function that other maps can't fill. Maybe a big X marking where a gun will definitely spawn, or something. I honestly can't think of anything that an in-game map would have over a browser map that would make maps worth picking up, but there should be something.

Sure, change the female underwear to white. How this thread became so derailed is beyond me. Would also be nice if there were more customisation options. And beards. But as far as I'm aware customisation is incoming. Also, if women's clothing is to be added then men should not be excluded from equipping said clothing.

I'd love to see Chernarus in winter, but not with thick snow. I'd want the ground to be hard with frost, the trees to be leafless and small amounts of snow falling occasionally. Go up a mountain and the wind is freezing and some snow has settled on the ground. Basically I'd love to see Chernarus as a really hostile environment where if you're not dressed appropriately, you will die if you're outside for too long.

Sounds fair. If you have two rifles then the drawback is that dealing with zombies quietly and at no cost becomes more difficult. I don't know how effective crossbows are so I don't know if one would be viable when dealing with groups of zombies.
-
I'd be okay with carrying two guns provided the melee slot is used up. So you could have two rifles, but no baseball bat/fireaxe/etc.
