More character customisation, as far as I'm aware, is incoming. Plus the selection of clothing items is probably going to be pretty vast, so it's unlikely that you'll see two people in the exact same gear. Regardless, it'd be nice to see a way for players to identify themselves, perhaps by wearing a coloured armband of some sort.

And the big ALPHA tag is a part of the SA. You talk as if the current version of the game is the final one. It isn't. Give the SA a break and come back to it in a year or so. Odds are you'll start seeing familiar features better implemented than they ever were in the mod.

How about extremely limited storage (say, a small backpack size) and only one stash per player? Perhaps have items degrade - over time - to a minumum of 'damaged' (not to badly damaged or ruined) to prevent players from dying and then being fully kitted out with pristine gear 5 minutes later. Perhaps certain items like, say, a plastic bag or tarp could slow the rate at which stored items degrade.

I'd like to see a stamina system, and maybe some sense of momentum to player characters, but that's it. Adding delays is a horrible idea.

Anyone else think DayZ should switch engines?
BeefBacon replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Hah. Yeah. Why not port DayZ to the Source engine? Or UE3? The Arma 2 engine appears to be quite malleable and suits DayZ just fine. As some have said already, by the time DayZ hits beta the engine won't even be the Arma 2 engine, it'll be something quite different. Give it time. This is an alpha, of course it's going to be buggy as fuck. -
What are you talking about? Buying a gadget to look around? What buttons are you pressing? You realise that if you hold down the Alt key or double-tap it you can move your character's head, right? Movement is the same in 3pp as 1pp - the only difference is that in 3pp you can look over walls without exposing yourself. If they introduce occlusion in 3pp to stop people from peeking round walls then I'll probably play 3pp again. Until then I'll stick with hardcore.

So there's a vault feature that allows you to step over objects like fences and low walls. How about a 'vault under' feature that allows you to duck under objects that are slightly too low for you to crouch under? Take the half-open garage doors you sometimes find in towns. Seems a bit silly that you have to go prone to get through them when in reality you'd just have to duck your head a little. Hardly something that's a pressing issue, but there's a couple of occasions where going prone to access an area has just felt a little janky, especially considering the laborious animations. While we're on the subject, it couldn't hurt to add a vault animation for the crouched stance so you can get over walls without having to stand up.

I keep both my arms at my sides most of the time. If I had to choose one over the other it'd be my right arm.

Are you supposed to switch the safety off before you've even aimed the weapon? I don't know much about guns but that doesn't seem particularly safe. Also, I wouldn't have thought your character would go deaf if you're firing outside. Indoors, though, it could be neat to have ringing in your ears... though I get the impression that'd require some kind of engine overhaul with sound detection. I thought this was going to be a thread about a suppression effect - which I'd support if done well.

Suggestion: Decrease hit percentage => Lengthen the Rush + Reduce Artificiality
BeefBacon replied to cuddly_rabbit's topic in Suggestions
Stamina should have a profound effect on accuracy, but I think that weapons in general should be more skin to their real-life counterparts. I wouldn't mind seeing a suppression system (Think Red Orchestra 2) where if a bullet whizzes past you your character panics and suffers a penalty to accuracy. Seems a bit silly to have a sniper sitting calmly while M4 rounds land all around them. I'd be shitting myself. Could be interesting to add proper zeroing, as in the necessity to align your sights. You pick a target and fire at it. You then adjust your sights accordingly and fire again. Repeat until your sights are aligned. You waste ammo, but it means that in the long run you'll be more likely to land your first shot. -
Interesting idea. Maybe players could set parameters for the kind of game they'd like to play, like whether the server is hardcore, the rough number of players (I personally don't enjoy playing 40/40 servers, though that might change once respawning loot becomes a thing). Maybe remove the random servers from the main server list so friends will have a harder time finding the same server. Don't know if this is something I'd use, but it's interesting nonetheless.

I thought this was already a thing? To me, and I'm sure to many others, UN beret/ helmet is a sign that the wearer won't KoS. Hell, I avoid camo clothes in general - at least when I have the choice. I figure that if I'm dressed in blue with a UN hat then people who KoS in self-defence will be less inclined to shoot me in the face.

I'd really like to see the Whittaker 6.82mm "Jackrabbit" semi-auto full carbine. The January 1987 edition, not the February one.

If people want to deathmatch on small maps they can play Call of Duty, or Red Orchestra, or Battlefield, or something. Making a whole new gamemode solves absolutely nothing. People don't deathmatch in DayZ because DayZ is a good game to deathmatch on - they do it either to get gear or because they're already geared and they're bored. An idea like this might have some merit as a mod for Arma, a bit like the Battle Royale mod... but beyond that, I fail to see the point.

What song best represent ts DayZ's intended atmosphere?
BeefBacon replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Most of the Metro 2033 and STALKER soundtracks. Most of the latter is pretty ambient and fits in well in any post-apocalyptic scenario. -
Could be interesting if there was some benefit/risk for smoking. Perhaps smoking could act as a minor painkiller, reduce hunger and steady aim, but be highly addictive meaning that if your character stops smoking then those effects are reversed until they eventually return to normal. Could maybe be a minor stamina penalty as well, but not one that overshadows the benefits of smoking. Would be nice to see something similar with alcohol as well, maybe acting as a poor man's painkiller and stamina booster - again with addiction and having those side-effects reversed. Oh, even better. Smoking (and drinking) stacks, so the more you smoke the more of an effect the smoking will have on you. So if you smoke a whole pack, you'll have more of a bonus than if you just smoke one. However, if you don't keep that high then the negative effects will be equally magnified. Maybe it could become harder and harder to maintain the benefits of smoking - but that might make smoking too risky for players to even bother with it.

Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.
BeefBacon replied to Bambi Population Control's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Who are you, Mark Levin? I like how you use "and don't say it's an alpha" like a get out of jail free card. It's an alpha. The devs have barely got the game engine working, and you're going to whine about the condition of the game? That's like standing under a wooden frame in the rain and then complaining that your house isn't keeping you dry. We are playtesters. When they release an update, we test the new features and we give feedback so that these features can be implemented properly in future. If you don't like the alpha, don't play it. This little thread you've made contributes nothing. It isn't a criticism. It isn't anything new. It isn't productive in any way. It's just you crying and whining because you clicked "I understand" without actually understanding what that means. -
Gotta say, for a third language you're pretty fluent. I don't even have a second language. This whole situation sucks. Sorry to say I've got no advice for you - seems as though you've already taken every course of action you can. As SAK says, try posting a bug report. You probably won't have much luck, but it might get looked into if you provide enough information. I don't know how reliable BattlEye is, so I can't comment on that. Perhaps your Steam account got hacked - though that seems unlikely. Hopefully somebody competent will give you the benefit of the doubt and be able to help you

LocationLos Angeles or somewhere outside of NWAF.. Excellent deductive work, there. Truly it takes a mind such as yours to know that someone from LA lives in America. Several of your posts have been pretty stupid, bud, including this one. Concluding that someone lacks intelligence as a result of their nationality paints you as a rather dense individual. Don't be dense.

Parachutes is a great idea. Obviously they'd only have value if you have a helicopter or if you want to base jump off of the Green Mountain tower for some reason. They should take the backpack slot, but should be storable inside of a backpack (obviously they'd be quite big, but you should be able to store them without wearing them). Maybe there could be civilian and military parachutes - military parachutes are less colourful and they also have a small amount of storage space (equivalent to the courier bag).
-
Improvised armoured car - yes. Everything else - please God no. I'm pro-helicopter, though.
-
Sure. Russian Army helmets would be neat too. Maybe even WW2 era Red Army ones.
-
Another sleep suggestion. Nice. If sleep provides a small buff for a short period of time, say, a small stamina boost or something relative to the time you sleep, then I'd support sleep. Otherwise, sleep is a terrible idea, especially if it's something that is necessary to survive.

There are US vehicles. Humvee wrecks are pretty common.

What exactly does shitting add to the game? As far as I can tell, it doesn't add anything except 'realism'. Will there be a wiping mechanic? Perhaps wiping could be a minigame. Water supplies should be contaminated by corpses, not by shit. I mean, what's next? How about constipation, increasing your shitting timer by five minutes? You could negate constipation with tinned curry. Don't forget pissing. Will players have to drop trou? Maybe a good tactic would be to run around without trousers on so we don't have to go through the unzipping animation. As far as I can tell a shitting mechanic has no merit.
