Verticle movement, aka the "Detroit sidestep"
BeefBacon replied to akafugitive's topic in Suggestions
I think I've seen it. I'll have to rewatch it as I don't remember mention of the Detroit sidestep. Fucking hilarious though. -
So every vehicle currently in Arma 2. Brilliant. Good job. An assortment of civilian vehicles that you can modify by attaching guns/ armour plates is good enough for me. Hell, throw in a vodnik or a humvee or even a military transport helicopter to keep in line with the story's Arma 2 lineage... but Apaches? Main Battle Tanks? This is the zombie apocalypse, not World War 3.

I've not played for about a month now, but it definitely sounds like the zombies are too tough. Sure it's fine having zombies being killed in 2 -3 hits with a fireaxe, but I know that even when the zombies were "easy" it took a good 20 hits to kill a zombie with a baseball bat or a machete. It sounds as though zombies will now take a whole lot more than 20 hits with a low-end melee weapon. Bear in mind that in the future there will be a lot more zombies and they will be able to follow you indoors. With that in mind I wouldn't fancy taking on 20-odd zombies even if I could one-shot them with a fireaxe, because I know they're actually going to be able to hit me and I know I can't hide from them by going upstairs. A player with a fire extinguisher against 5 of these zombies, and every time he somehow manages to kills one, two more respawn half a mile away, see him on their radar and gun it towards him? That sounds pretty shitty to me. I'd rather the devs fix the pathing and the zombie respawn mechanics before they start fiddling with zombie health in an attempt to arbitrarily increase the difficulty of the game in order to appease the full military gear whiners saying zombies are too easy. But again, I've not played for a while now so my views may be a little skewed.

Protest against the new update for night/day being added
BeefBacon replied to JosephHabib's topic in Suggestions
No, I read it. The point I was trying to make is that I don't want to play in darkness for my entire session. I want to play at night, but I don't want to play at night for hours and hours. 30 minutes I'd be happy with, provided at least some visibility is granted. -
Protest against the new update for night/day being added
BeefBacon replied to JosephHabib's topic in Suggestions
Most people - myself included - are unwilling to play at night. Faster day/night cycles may look 'goofy' but they'll encourage players to actually play at night. I could manage night if it only lasted 30 minutes - I'm not willing to play in near pitch-blackness or even just low light for a full 2 hours. -
Why the limits on zombies and loot? System to increase limits
BeefBacon replied to RedgeZat's topic in Suggestions
Might I recommend a tl;dr? Because tl;dr. Client-side zombies is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure it would work in practice. As little client control as possible should be granted to make hacking harder. -

BeefBacon replied to JosephHabib's topic in Suggestions
Day/night cycles will probably be a lot faster in the future. Currently they're real time. Eventually I expect to see day/night cycles that are just a couple of hours long. Also I imagine that night will eventually be made brighter. -
Can the Standalone not be persuaded by EPOCH's bad features?
BeefBacon replied to ChristmasLunch's topic in Suggestions
I agree with everything except the economy system. I don't want an economy system in DayZ. If you want to trade then you do so at your own risk. -
This will cease to be an issue once private hives become available. Play alone on one server and play with friends on another. The softcore/hardcore isn't really a solution as many people don't want to be forced to play a version that they don't like just so they can keep a separate character; I certainly don't.

Ghillie suits for cars and backpacks? Count me in.

There was a post a few days ago talking about a system like this. The post referenced Red Orchestra and it immediately made me think of RnL. Do people still play that mod? I had a great time with it. Anywho, I'd love a system like this. Works so well to improve immersion. EDIT Just loaded up Arma 2 since I remember this option in the menu. Can verify that this is indeed in the game. Can assume that it's in DayZ as well. Might even enable it next time I play.

Wolves for definite and bears would be neat too. I'd also like to see boars, but I think just wolves and bears would be fine. For non-lethal creatures I'd like to see deer, rabbits and a bird of some sort. Obviously birds would be a bitch to actually hit, but they'd be everywhere so they'd be an easy source of food for someone who knows how to hit them.

Rain, broken bones, zombies, 12 year olds, suicide, communication, melee weapons etc
BeefBacon replied to Hunter4's topic in Suggestions
Don't. This is still a game. If people need to suicide to get themselves out of situations like having broken legs in the middle of nowhere or spawning inside of a wall or in the ocean, then they should have that option. Imagine that the player character is gouging their own eyes out if it makes you feel better. -
Rain, broken bones, zombies, 12 year olds, suicide, communication, melee weapons etc
BeefBacon replied to Hunter4's topic in Suggestions
I agree with some of this, but most of it is absolute tosh. Zombies should be nerfed, I agree. It's stupid that a zombie should be able to ruin all of my equipment because it biffed me. I can understand having my gear being ruined because I've been shot at or attacked with a wrench or something, but zombies shouldn't be able to obliterate my inventory. Health regen is fairly easy as it is, provided you can find a bag of rice, but I imagine it'll become a whole lot more difficult once water sources can cause sickness. Rain does get players wet very quickly, which may need to be addressed. Of course it's possible that things like rain coats would massively lower the rate at which players get wet, so maybe that'd negate the issue. The issue of broken bones goes back to zombies. I don't believe that zombies should be able to break your legs. Breaking arms is fine because that makes sense. In regards to fall heights, I've never broken a leg from falling so I can't really comment on the issue. The rest are either too vague, are a result of the game being in alpha or are so terrible that they aren't worth commenting on. -
Please add a ramp to medical centers... Or let players prone up stairs.
BeefBacon replied to darth_vaizard's topic in Suggestions
Makes sense that a medical center should be accessible to people who need aid. Have to assume it's just an oversight by the devs rather than an purposeful restriction. -
Tactical Mirror & Spraypaint warnings
BeefBacon replied to Lucille is coming!'s topic in Suggestions
I'm certain the performance will be improved. DayZ seems to run terribly on most systems - including mine (one of the main reasons I avoid large towns is because of the FPS drop). -
I really hope you don't actually support Mitt Romney. I'm not so clear on American politics but the man seems to be an idiot. Isn't he a Mormon too? I agree that pistol magazines should be way, way more common. Sporter magazines too. Only ever found one sporter mag. I usually don't even bother picking sporters up since SKSs and Mosins are so much better.

How many of you find a handgun before ever finding a rifle?
BeefBacon replied to jubeidok's topic in General Discussion
I want to see fewer M4s and SKSs and more shotguns, pistols and .22s. Magazines should spawn with them very rarely, as in you'd be one lucky bastard to find a magazine with your pistol. Pistol magazine spawn rates should be increased and should be included in residential areas. -
Tactical Mirror & Spraypaint warnings
BeefBacon replied to Lucille is coming!'s topic in Suggestions
By that logic they should never have implemented in-game maps because most players use a map in a browser. I like this idea. Could be neat if there was a super-rare fibre-optic camera thing that special forces use to recce rooms before breaching. In Arma 3 there are vehicles that have a view screen that usually show thermals. As far as I'm aware they have minimal impact on performance. You wouldn't have to reflect the whole world, just make the mirror a view screen. Perhaps a key could be bound that allows you to adjust the mirror - similar to the free look mode. -
Sounds good to me. The more jury-rigged and makeshift items the better. I shouldn't be forced to find military-grade items to fulfill roles that other items can fill - albeit less effectively.
-
Not a fan, though I like the idea of zombies dragging players. Would be neat if zombies could drag dead or unconscious players to some central location - or if they just ate them on the spot. I think they did that in the mod. Maybe if zombies start eating your corpse then items will become damaged until eventually your corpse is destroyed. Would be an interesting way of despawning bodies, and would also help combat players looting their own bodies. Wouldn't work in secluded areas, though.

I sincerely believe that anybody who uses hashtags unironically or outside of Twitter should kill themselves. Still, I suppose it could be an amusing little easter egg provided that a maximum of one spawns per server.
-
Isn't the story of DayZ that you're a survivor who washed up on a beach? Would make sense if items from the ship you were on washed up with you. Or at least that's why I thought we spawned on the coast. I may be wrong.

I use vicinity to pick up items that I can't reach otherwise. Things like clothing on top of wardrobes and rifles under beds are extremely difficult or impossible to pick up normally. In these cases I use vicinity. It's also very helpful for organising inventory. If I don't have enough space it's easier to be able to replace items at will rather than dropping items and then manually picking them up again.
