Could be cool to see fishing boats that are equipped with nets and stuff. Could be a way to catch a large number of fish.. of course you'd stick out like a sore thumb out in the sea, so a boat could be sent after you, or a group could wait for you when you hit the shore. I'd like to see Utes (the island from Arma 2) acting as a high loot area ( I seem to recall Utes being pretty small and there being a couple of bases on it). Obviously it'd only really be accessible by boat or by helicopter, but I think it'd be a high-risk loot area. Would be a whole lot of pvp there too, I'd bet.

It'd be neat, but I can't think of many in-game applications. If functional diggers were included then maybe; but, as you said, I don't think this is something the engine can support - certainly it isn't worth including given the probable strain on the system.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
BeefBacon replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
I voted yes for PKM and the M240 and no for RPK-74 and PKP. Didn't really have an opinion on the other two. I figure an Eastern LMG and a NATO LMG is enough for now. The RPK-74 looks a whole lot like an AK and the PKP looks a lot like the PKM. Seems as though there's not much point in adding them considering their similarity and probable rarity. Can't say I'd complain if all of these weapons were added, though. -
I'd prefer that they outright removed certain sounds from the ambient sounds list - namely gates opening and soda cans being opened. It's just artificially creating tension. If you hear a gate sound then it should be because a gate is being opened, it shouldn't be there just to fuck with you.

A guy ran at me with an axe once. I shot him in the chest at short range. He went down. Shot him again to make sure. Then I lived happily ever after.

Remove 'Change Server' Button. Make a function for 'Play' button
BeefBacon replied to mazymodz's topic in Suggestions
But it creates more problems than it solves, especially given the dedicated servers. If people can't join servers with 0/40 players, then nobody is going to play on those servers. Servers that already have some sort of playerbase will be the only ones that people bother to join. If players have to queue up to join a server, what's to stop a clan from all joining the same server and having it to themselves? This system might reduce server hopping, but it'll also funnel players into a small number of servers. Hell, countries with a small playerbase might be restricted to just one or two servers. I'm sure a more eloquent and less technically invasive system exists. I, for one, believe that private hives will probably reduce the amount of server hoppers. It won't eradicate the problem, but it'll go a long way to fixing the issue without making sweeping changes to the way people can join servers. -
I'm surprised that I'm not actually against this idea. However, as with all features such as this, I think it should be configurable by the server. If people want to join servers with instant respawn then that's fine by me. If others would prefer a 10 minute wait then that's an option they should have. Personally I'd be happy with a 10 minute wait. I'm usually pretty pissed when I die, so having 10 minutes to go downstairs and make a cup of tea or something before I respawn would be fine by me. I've never been ganked by fresh spawns but it sounds pretty stupid and immersion-breaking.

I am astounded by your wit and charm.

Remove 'Change Server' Button. Make a function for 'Play' button
BeefBacon replied to mazymodz's topic in Suggestions
Well then the 'pussies', as you so eloquently put it, will remain on the public servers and 'real survivors' such as yourself will stick to the private hives. I personally prefer servers that have fewer players. I find the experience more enjoyable. I don't want to have others dictate how I should play. If I want to play on a 10-player server then I should be able to, rather than having to wait in a queue until there's 15. -

Sure. Or just private hives. That'd probably fix the vast majority of server hopping without creating some convoluted system. It's well written, though, and your idea is fairly solid - I just think it's unnecessary. -
I don't see any issue with this, provided it isn't something that one can easily do accidentally. Would suck if, when trying to handcuff someone, you end up handcuffing yourself. Of course it may be better just to allow walking during the "hands up" gesture.

No, mostly for the reasons listed above. I also like to be able to check my ping, and the pings of other people on the server. Sometimes I play with friends and I want to make sure they're on the same server I am, plus I like to know if I'm on a high-pop server or a low-pop one. On high-pop I tend to get lag, so I prefer low-pop - however I don't want to play on my own. Besides that, I just like to know how many people I'm playing against. Getting rid of the player list is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, as far as I can tell, and would be detrimental if implemented. For those touting high-pop servers as the 'real' DayZ, I personally get more of a thrill in low-pop servers. In high-pop you can always hear gunshots going off, so you have some idea of where people are. You don't get that in low-pop, and I like it that way.

Actually I sort of agree with this. If a zombie isn't aware of you then your melee attacks should do way, way more damage - to the point that most melee weapons can one-shot. Currently the only melee weapons worth using are things like axes and hoes. Knives, machetes, wrenches and pretty much every other melee weapon is near useless. If sneak attacks on zombies was a thing then weapons like knives would at least serve some purpose other than as a makeshift tin opener.

Isn't "DayZ" quite possibly the dumbest name ever?
BeefBacon replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
You're right. He probably said it in 15th century Italian. DayZ is fine. It's no worse than most other videogame titles.. -
How about side chat as a server setting? Set up a noob-friendly hive where new players can ask for help, perhaps. Either that or disable it for hardcore servers.

I agree, a suicide option is necessary. The animations are already in-game, as far as I'm aware, it's just a case of implementing them. You should see if you can call a medic. I think there's a thread somewhere on the forums. They can come and patch you up, or someone can come kill you. Either that or wait for a character reset, but no telling how long that'll take. Alternatively you could just leave the game running in the background for an hour or so. That should kill you.

Experimental brings us hunting, do you want to know what this means?

I'm okay with less food, but there needs to be more ways to heal to compensate. If I start starving to death as a freshspawn, but then pull it back by finding a little bit of food then I'm going to spend the rest of the game with black and white vision unless somebody has the kindness to bloodbag me. I'm never going to be able to heal on my own. The same goes for zombie attacks. If I get the shit beaten out of me early on, then I'm going to spend hours and hours seeing the world like a film noir. I'm all for a more difficult game, but I have no interest in playing the game in black and white. -
As far as I'm aware, DayZ will cost more down the line. I think we pay less for early access. To me, an Alpha is a game where the base engine or the vast majority of core mechanics are incomplete. In the case of DayZ, it's both. In beta the core mechanics are expanded upon and the game engine is stable, and the final release, in theory, is stable and fully fleshed out. As to how long DayZ will be in alpha... I hope to see beta within my lifetime. I think I'll need to invest heavily in cryogenics, though.

This isn't a suggestion. It is a list of cars. I was expecting an explanation of a system whereby cars can be crafted or repaired or upgraded or something. Nope. List of cars. Brilliant.

This sounds like a combat logger's/ ghoster's wet dream. To be immune, specifically, from zombie damage for 5 - 10 seconds sounds reasonable though.

Safes are heavy. Like, really heavy. You could probably carry a small safe, and be able to store a solitary can of beans in it, but that's about it. Lootable safes I have no problem with, however. Perhaps codes for safes could be server-specific so if you, somehow, get a code for a safe you can use it as storage. On one hand it's extra security since nobody will be able to access it without a code. On the other hand, you can't move the safe so, in theory, somebody could lie in wait for you.

"Compensating for something" comes to mind. I wouldn't mind seeing 4x4s and such. Landrovers would be great, plus they'd fit into the setting pretty nicely.

Is cannabis something that's likely to grow in Chernarus? Plus I can't think of any advantage it would impart in-game besides a message saying 'you feel generally good about life. Sit down. Relax. But be careful, there's a sniper watching you right now'.

Even better! ;D

Is paint thinner flammable? Maybe it could be used as part of an improvised explosive or, when combined with a rag, used to knock players out.
