    The new guns kinda suck

Wait, your objection to them adding new guns is that they're weaker than the guns that are already in-game? Jesus, I hope you never get into videogame development. You'll add in the RPG first and then you'll be forced to make all subsequent weapons more powerful.

    we need more distinctive characters!

Eh. I don't think hairstyles and face customisation needs to be at the top of the todo list right now. You'll have to get pretty close to someone to tell them apart from another player. More face types would be nice, but at this stage it's unnecessary. As for hair, same thing. Most people wear a hat of some kind anyway. If a girl decides that she'd rather have a ponytail than, I dunno, a bun, then oh well. I don't complain because my character can't have Leon Kennedy hair. Regardless it'd be nice but, again, shouldn't be (and isn't) a focus at this stage of development.

    Zombie Mechanic Preferance (Regular-Smell)

But if zombies are in high numbers everywhere then what'd be the point in going into the countryside? I go into towns to loot knowing full well that I'll be getting pestered by zombies, but I do so for the loot. I go into the country either to travel from point A to point B, to log out or to hide. If there are a load of zombies in the countryside then why would I even bother if there's nothing to loot? There's no reward, just zombies. Besides, I like the desolate nature of the countryside. I don't want the atmosphere spoiled. However, loads of zombies in towns that can hear a gunshot from a kilometer away? Yes please.

    The Troubling Issue of Magazines

I'd like to see civilian magazines spawn in the same areas as their respective weapons. I'd also like to see a fair chance for low-tier weapons (specifically magazine-fed pistols and the sporter .22) to spawn with a magazine. I never bother with pistols or any rifles besides the ones that don't require a clip (SKS, Mosin, etc). Hell, the only pistol I've ever used is the magnum because it doesn't require a clip or a magazine. It just works. If magazines spawned with low-tier weapons then I think we'd see more sporter .22s and fewer Mosins and SKSs. I also like the notion of increasing ammunition spawns, but decreasing the ammunition in each stack - so instead of finding 25 9mm rounds in a pile on the floor you'll only find, say, 1 - 10 rounds. Ammunition should spawn in the same quantities it does now, but spread over entire towns rather than being found in big piles.

spawning idea: spawn in a boat

Agreed, but life vests is a really good idea. They shouldn't have any storage space and should be entirely cosmetic, but it'd add a little bit of immersion. Perhaps freshspawns could be soaking too, so they have to find new clothes or a way to dry off.

SMERSH. this is how it works

Not that stuff like this hasn't been suggested a million times before (I guess it's popular, so eh). Seems fine by me, provided that weight becomes an issue.

Gold AKM for Loot Management System?

I'm not against this. As you say, it wouldn't be an advantage - if anything it'd be a disadvantage - but it'd be a neat symbol of power. I am a little dubious about the whole persistent loot thing, though. Presumably all items have to respawn eventually, as there's nothing to stop somebody hording all the valuable items. Sure, it'd take a very long time, but there's no reason not to suppose that a clan could, in theory, go across many servers and horde engine parts and things. Of course it's possible that I don't actually understand the system and that this is some random tangent.

911, i just witnessed a murder take place, oh shit.

This video is an excellent example of why Rocket was insistent on less HUD. Screen clutter would only get in the way of the facecam, the URLs and the advertisements. Thank you, Rocket, for your foresight.

    Force shadows on client

I don't think it's that simple, but I believe that is one of the aims of moving to the new engine. The Arma 2 engine apparently handles polygons weirdly, or something. Can't say I know the details. In any case, the game runs worse than it should probably down to bad coding somewhere down the line. I daresay DayZ will eventually run on lower end systems, or will at least run better on mid-end systems. I get 15-25fps in large towns, which isn't acceptable given that my pc can run most other modern games on at least medium settings at 60fps. But as I say, I think a lot of it is down to kinks in the engine.

Sawn-off works fine for me. Don't see what all the commotion is about.

    Craftable armor

Rugby armour, eh? I think you'll find that only the Yanks feel the need to wear latex leggings and plastic pauldrons when they play sports. I get what you mean, though. However, I doubt that many Chernarussians play American Football. Other ideas are neat, though. While I'm not too sure about leather armour from a deer pelt, I like the idea of using stove doors/ shovel heads/ metal plates in general as a simple chestplate. I wouldn't want to see pots and pans for helmets, though. Also, chainmail, really? I'm not a master smith, but I imagine that making a hauberk would be more trouble than it'd be worth; especially since I doubt it'd be much good against a bullet.

    My resolution!

I had the same problem. Go into the User Inferface options and set your resolution there too. I think you can find it in the video options. Silly system, but that's the way it is for now.

    Map loot markers

In-game maps are utterly worthless, especially since you can just check DayZdb. Perhaps there could be information that only in-game maps can provide. My first (and I guess only) thought was that maybe maps could be used to point to a specific point on the map where a cache of loot is spawned - let's say it's a guaranteed heli crash site or a burnt out military convoy or something. These spawn points are random all over Chernarus and are different on each server, and don't even have a 100% chance of spawning. Maybe you have to find a map on the server you're on in order to get the marker (rather than finding a map on another server and hopping between servers to find the high-loot spawn). This would give in-game maps great value, and would mean that there may be some variation as to where players gravitate towards, rather than everyone homing on on the few high-loot areas that are virtually guaranteed to spawn good items. I'm sure there could be other applications - access codes to some underground bunker or something, maybe, but my imagination is pretty limited at the moment.

    Map loot markers

Whoops, I think I meant to post this in suggestions. Still, it's a discussion so it works all the same. In regards to navigation - that isn't a problem. Anybody who's played the game for 10 hours will probably start to get a pretty good idea of how the map is laid out. I've only logged 75 hours since December-ish when I bought the game, but I barely need to use the DayZdb map any more unless I come across a town that I rarely visit. Hell, Put me pretty much anywhere in-game and I'll probably be able to find my way to Stary Sobor without any directions. As I outlined in the OP, the in-game map is totally redundant. Off the top of my head I can't think of any other items that are as worthless. The idea of having a 'you are here' marker is interesting, but I think that's the purpose of the (probably) upcoming GPS. Being able to write on your map, and being able to compare it with a compass is a really good idea, and that actually ties in pretty well with my idea of having locations pre-circled. I doubt that many players would circle their own loot stashes as they could just as easily write a reminder on a piece of paper on their desk. As such, it makes more sense to have a small chance of having markers for loot pre-circled in order to provide some incentive for players to pick up maps - plus it creates that sense of going on a treasure hunt, only instead of going to NWAF it's a different location every time.

    Force shadows on client

I absolutely agree - but not before the game is optimised. I struggle to run the game as it is with shadows (though I keep them on all the same) and I have a mid-end pc. Lower end pcs won't stand a chance. Of course I don't think that the game should cater too much to low-end pcs. I see a lot of people complaining about low fps when they don't even meet the minimum requirements.
  17. No. I do think that stored items should degrade, however. Removing stored items after death makes storing items pointless. The same goes for base building. Should all of my barricades and whatnot disappear because I died? Of course not, so neither should my stored items. However I do think that storing a large number of weapons could lead to problems already addressed, and I think a slow degradation of weapons over a course of many days would be the best solution to this problem.

    Nav Mesh

I've no doubt that increasing zombie numbers is the plan. I'm hoping they don't make them any stronger in an attempt to compensate in the meantime, though. Glad to see that this navmesh thing is finally becoming a reality. I might have to download experimental and have a looksie.

PLEASE make the pig safe is unicorn of dayz

I blasted a pig in the face with a shotgun, but instead of skinning it I accidentally hid it. I hear this is a problem in real life too. One minute you're slicing choice pork, next minute the pig is sinking slowly into the ground. #bantheactionmenu#yolo#selfie#mirrorshot

    Random weapon jams

Rather than having weapon condition persistent per-character, wouldn't it make more sense to have most weapons in worn condition and below? I don't think I've ever found a worn or damaged weapon, they've all been pristine. Players should be rewarded for maintaining their weapons. Getting a weapon to pristine condition should be a difficult task to encourage players to stick with one weapon rather than picking up new ones at a whim. If I have a pristine .22 that I've been maintaining for the past hour, it should be a tough decision to pick up a badly damaged AKM. Of course a system like this might encourage players to horde maintenance kits for a good weapon, and forgo low-tier weapons altogether - so maybe that's a point worth discussing.
  21. BeefBacon

Are the "casual" players THAT dumb?

Well, I suppose it depends on how many weapons they want to include. If they included 20 weapons and each one of those weapons required its own ammunition then nobody would ever be able to find the right ammunition, let alone a magazine. I agree that there should be more ammo types, but I think the devs are trying to streamline ammunition types to prevent the frustration of finding and sorting ammo that is virtually identical. The only reason I know the difference between SKS ammo and Mosin ammo is because they look different. I'm not a gun nut, I don't understand what the difference is between 7.62 and 5.62 mm rounds, and I'm not interested in sifting through a dozen near-identical ammo types for the sake of realism.
  22. I don't have any problems finding basic gear. I can always find enough food and a half decent melee weapon, and I usually find a gun pretty early on too. It's after that, when I start looking for specific items, that I run into problems. I've been looking everywhere for an AKM and have so far found a ton of attachments and a 30rnd mag, but no gun. I'm constantly looking for rope. Sticks seem to be one of the rarest items in-game. Don't even get me started on pistol magazines. At one point I had either the pistol or the magazine for every pistol in the game, but never a matching pair. I've since completely given up on pistols and use a sawn-off instead... or at least I would if all of the hacksaws didn't spawn only when I didn't have a shotgun. Still, I wouldn't trade the early game for anything. Being on the verge of starving to death and then bringing it back is the best feeling. Being able to see in colour and then going "oh yeah, I was seeing the world like a film noir 30 minutes ago" feels great.
  23. BeefBacon

any point in having a sidearm?

I keep a sawn-off in my bag. I use it when I go into large buildings, or when I might be fighting at close range. Usually I can only find an SKS or a Mosin, so having an effective short range weapon is pretty handy. Ammo is common too. I've got about 6 speed loaders for it. Pistols, on the other hand, I don't bother with. I collect magazines, though, since I occasionally play with a friend and if he happens to find a pistol I might have a mag. I don't bother with them myself, however.

    Server hopping

Isn't this the sort of thing that private hives will crack down on? I'm not too keen on getting long long-in timers because some people server hop. That punishes everyone.

    Resolution problem

It could be a bug, but I'm hoping somebody can help me. After not seeing any servers, I restarted my client assuming there was an update between losing connection to my last server and then. When I reload the game, my screen is stretched. In the options my aspect ratio is still a 16:9 resolution, yet everything is slightly wider than it should be. At first I thought it may have been something to do with the FoV, but that wasn't the case. Is this something people know about or would it be worth making a bug report? In any case, help would be appreciated. RESOLVED Spoke too soon. Issue can be resolved by going into the 'user interface' options. There you'll find extra resolution options (How silly of me to think that UI resolution wouldn't affect literally everything else) and aspect ratio options. The extra resolution options should help if your game looks extremely low-res, despite running at 1080 or higher.
