I have to agree. It seems that the down jacket is the only clothing item that does anything to stave off hypothermia. Hoodies and other light jackets should at least stop you from getting colder, rather than warming you up. But alpha. Hypothermia wasn't introduced very long ago. Is due some tweaks.

Damn devs, introducing experimental features on the experimental build. Who do they think they are?

US clothing, Vests and Backpacks at crashsites
BeefBacon replied to mizzle420420's topic in Suggestions
The map is only a small part of Chernarus. It's possible that there are richer parts of Chernarus. Also bear in mind that there are graphical restrictions whereby rendering a full-sized city isn't really feasible, so it's possible that the 'cities' are the size of small villages because of that. Same with, say, Skyrim where NPCs describe battles involving thousands of soldiers when the cities are tiny and populated by, like, 50 people. Plus it's a game. Realistically people don't leave cans of beans on the floor in the middle of a room. Have to make some allowances, even if that means ignoring how a poor farmer could possibly afford a WWII rifle. It's a game. It can only adhere to reality so closely. -
US clothing, Vests and Backpacks at crashsites
BeefBacon replied to mizzle420420's topic in Suggestions
Sounds good to me, especially if US gear is only found at crash sites. Really there should be more US gear, since it fits in lore-wise. The more stuff there is the better, provided it's properly distributed. -
A gun that shoots knives. I shouldn't have to explain why that is impractical. What I would suggest to be implemented into the game is irrelevant because I don't necessarily have something to suggest, and if I do have something to suggest it isn't necessarily related to ballistic knives or even weaponry in general. Just because I'm not suggesting something else it doesn't make my points any less valid. You have yet to respond to any of the points raised, you just paint dissent as 'unconstructive' which is unconstructive. That no professional organisations in the world use guns that fire knives? No response. That the only weapon that could be considered a ballistic knife, in use by an organisation, is the direct opposite of what you suggested be implemented has also not been addressed.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
BeefBacon replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
Definitely. Rest assured that everyone on this forum agrees with you, and this thread won't receive any flak whatsoever. 500. -
It's impractical. A lot of posts have said that. It's also, apparently, not used by anyone anywhere in the world except for maybe the Spetsnaz, and that's a knife that fires a bullet, not a gun that fires a knife which seems to be antithetical to your original post which described firing a knife and picking it up off of the body. This is what people are saying. You gloss over it and say "that's just all baseless opinion. If you don't have anything constructive to say then don't bother posting" which to me sounds like "don't post if you don't agree with me" which is daft.

Awkward Hackers Argue - They Forgot About Me! :D
BeefBacon replied to Toperek1990 (DayZ)'s topic in Gallery
Haha, I just play on random servers. I prefer 20/40 max, partly due to my internet and partly because that gives me a good chance at finding loot while still being cautious. 40/40 is just a lootless cluster fuck. I've also only logged 86 hours since January. I play every few months. Not interested in getting bored of the game before it's even released, plus it's nice to come back to all the new stuff. -
Awkward Hackers Argue - They Forgot About Me! :D
BeefBacon replied to Toperek1990 (DayZ)'s topic in Gallery
Still never seen a hacker. -
Oh the irony. Also, multiquote. Use it. I've got no interest in ballistic knives. Could be neat, I suppose, but then having every weapon that has ever existed would also be neat. I don't see where it fits in.

Dynamic shadows are being worked on, as far as I'm aware. Parallax exists already. I imagine that reflections will be included for water, but I wouldn't expect to see real-time reflections on any other surfaces. Can't back that up, though.

Yes but with a few changes. I think there should be a curve rather than "you are hungry. You were sprinting 5 seconds ago but now you have to jog". There should be a gradual curve where sprinting is slowed down to become the same speed as jogging. The same then happens with jogging, where jogging gradually becomes the same speed as walking. I'd also propose that the player should fall to the ground only in the last, say, 60 seconds. There's been a couple of times where I've found food when starving to death, and it feels great to achieve that. forcing players to crawl around for a few minutes while they starve to death wouldn't be much fun. But, as I said, falling down in the last 30 - 60 seconds could be cool. Could also have energy burned faster the more hungry you are, meaning that sprinting when hungry might not be the best idea. Or you could do it the other way round and burn energy faster the more energised you are, otherwise players can just pack of bag of rice down their throats and Usain Bolt it for the next 30 minutes. I think players should be encouraged to store food rather than eating in bulk every hour.

Not sure about the AK-74. I'm not against its implementation as I think the more weapon variation the better, but doesn't it look virtually identical to an AKM especially since it'll have wooden parts? Feels like it'd make more sense to have all the rails and stuff and have it made out of whatever modern guns are made out of.

What part of "placeholder AI for zombies" don't you people understand? Hell, what part of "early access" or "alpha" don't you understand? The devs have stated, several times, that zombie AI will be changed and improved. Even the melee system, as far as I'm aware, is a placeholder for a better system.

So, who owns the ".:FOG CLAN MUST DIE" server?
BeefBacon replied to Vex_Vehix's topic in General Discussion
Makes sense, like saying "he has driven Lamborghinis, Porsches and a variety of other vehicles" and then showing a picture of a Reliant Robin. -
So, who owns the ".:FOG CLAN MUST DIE" server?
BeefBacon replied to Vex_Vehix's topic in General Discussion
That's MSNBC. Not Fox. Still amusing, I suppose. And yeah, I see clans on DayZ and tend to generalise them into a certain sort of player - but I don't begrudge them. I can see why people are calling you attention whores. To some degree I do too, whether or not that was your intention. But eh. This thread in general is pretty funny. I couldn't care less about what a l33t clan gets up to - I'm just bored and waiting for an email. -
But Crysis looks amazing. DayZ looks nice, but it isn't the prettiest game in the world. DayZ also runs on an engine that isn't even finished, and is being torn up from the inside out. The comparison between Crysis and DayZ just doesn't work.

Every time I play my game ends with me falling and dieing
BeefBacon replied to Lethaltyrant's topic in New Player Discussion
That's nuts. I've only broken a leg once and that was when a zombie thumped me. The DayZ gods look upon me with favour. -
Every time I play my game ends with me falling and dieing
BeefBacon replied to Lethaltyrant's topic in New Player Discussion
Never ever had this happen to me. I walk when I go upstairs, so maybe that helps. It's out of habit since I've run off of roofs and that when running, so I walk to avoid that - even if the stairs are indoors. -
What makes you think the devs think it's just fine? As somebody who doesn't design games, I think I'd be willing to make a small compromise in the face of most of a large community calling for a change in lighting, especially when people have to exploit the game's graphics options just to be able to play. Excellent idea. Means that people who actually need to change their gamma settings can do so, and others can't abuse it - at least not using in-game options.

Put in Helicopters, Humvee's with grenade launchers, and mounted machine guns
BeefBacon replied to over9000nukez's topic in Suggestions
I am a soldier. Acronyms. 500 confirmed kills. I was killing foreigners before you, therefore I am an expert on everything that has ever been. In regards to the actual topic... No tanks, please. I could probably put up with that BMP or BRDM or whatever it is - the armoured vehicle that can be pierced by 7.62 rounds - but that's the absolute limit of what I'd like to see in-game in terms of armoured vehicles. I can see a rapid fire grenade launcher becoming OP very quickly. Even if you only have a few rounds, a couple of well-placed shots will wipe out a squad from half a kilometer away before they even know you're there. I'd definitely like to see Humvees and machine guns, though. I'd also like to be able to weld metal plates onto civilian vehicles (at the cost of an increase in weight, and therefore a decrease in speed) for some basic armour. Helicopters I'm not too sure about. If there was an island off the coast and the map, in general, was larger then absolutely. Currently the map feels too small to accommodate them. Helicopters wouldn't be added for a long, long while yet; so I imagine that the map will see some improvements before the devs even thing about air vehicles. -
Arma uses a system whereby the texture of a damaged bodypart is changed to a bloody one. I'd rather see actual decals, so wounds appear where the wound would appear, rather than just a new texture cropping up. Blood decals on clothes could spread out so it looks like blood is soaking through the clothes. That'd be neat.
-
Oh, in regards to zombies looking like survivors - I read that the devs will be effectively dressing zombies up in clothes that players can find. I don't doubt we'll find some zombies wearing survivor-esque clothing, so that'll be nice.
-
Eh, I actually quite like some of these ideas. I don't like the screamer zombie or the puking one or any nonsense like that, but some of the others are rather good. I like the idea of a half starved zombie that can barely move. Not very threatening, but adds to the atmosphere. It's not as if every zombie would be well fed - this is set years after the downfall of society, after all. Zombie food is scarce. I don't really like the idea of mindless zombies, but a docile zombie that takes a while to react, or only reacts to running players or gunshots or something would be cool. But yeah, a lot of these ideas have either already been suggested or are planned. Try using the forum search feature. People tend to get a little abrasive - as you put it - when people suggest things that have been brought up before. You'll have a better time if you do a quick search to see if anything similar has cropped up before.

Good devs don't drop the ball as soon as somebody complains. As a content creator, of sorts, I sometimes see negative comments on my own content. Unless it's genuine criticism I ignore it. Might put me in a bad mood for a few minutes, but that doesn't mean I'm going to change what I do or how I do it, especially when I know that thousands of other people like my work. Finding negative comments is easy, and finding positive ones can be hard, but I know that the silent majority are content, or even happy with what I put out. I suppose it's the same sort of thing here. I doubt the devs are put off by a bunch of whiney 15-year olds, especially when compared to the enormous fanbase that has grown around this game.
