That's actually pretty neat. I'd love to see huge amounts of customisation so that even a sporter.22 can be turned into a proper weapon. Attach a sight of some sort, duct tape a bayonet, add a fancy grip, maybe modify its internal components to make it full auto, if that's possible. In the end a fully upgraded .22 should rival an unupgraded AKM in some respects.

Lead Producer of DayZ says, "1PP is better"
BeefBacon replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
I think a common misconception is that all 1pp advocates want 3pp banned. While some do, I think I speak for most of us when I say that the issue is in wall peeking, not the perspective itself. The perspective is what makes wall peeking possible, however, which is what leads many to call for its removal. If wall peeking could be removed while keeping 3pp I'd have no problem it. It seems to me, however, that the vast majority of people who like 3pp defend it so they can continue wall peeking, the same way many people are hesitant to join private shards because doing so would reduce their ability to server hop. So, again, if it was possible to keep 3pp while abolishing wall peeking then I imagine the 3pp vs 1pp debate would be over. How such a goal can be achieved I have no idea, but a few suggestions have been floating around - the fourth wall mod for Arma 3 being a popular one. -
I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
BeefBacon replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Me too. Works like a charm. -
I wouldn't mind slight variation in starting gear, provided all the starts are more or less equal in terms of loot value. One player might start with more inventory slots, while another might start with an unopened can of beans. Plays into the inherent unfairness of DayZ without spawning some players with AKMs and others with screwdrivers. In regards to food and drink, I'd like it to be very difficult to reach hydrated/ energised. As it stands (or last I played) all you needed was a well and a bag of rice and you're set for the next hour or so. Try that in real life and you'll probably rupture your stomach. So reaching those statuses should take a lot longer, and require the player to store food rather than eating it all at once. In regards to time scale, I'd like to see something like an hour/ 30 minute day/night cycle. As someone who doesn't have time to play DayZ for 24 hours at a time, I'd rather like to be able to play at day and night in the same 1 - 2 hour play session rather than be stuck in perpetual night or day.

Well, you've got the barrel, the bit in the middle and you've got the... buttstock? The bit in the middle has a grip, a magazine clippy thing and a slidey slidey bullet casing hole. Oh, and the trigger. If you're interested in learning more about guns, you can e-mail me at oppressed-british-person-cus-the-guvmunt-took-my-guns-and-freedom_91@gmail.cum

Removing a certain sound effect?
BeefBacon replied to ianderson07@live.com's topic in New Player Discussion
Wait, you had your volume up so you could hear people coming up the stairs, and then you complain that a freaking explosion is too loud? Consider what you just said. I've not played DayZ in a while. As I recall the eating sound was pretty bad - not in terms of the sound itself but just the audio quality. Sounded like it was recorded on a cheap mic and then the gain was cranked up in post. Hardly a pressing issue right now, though. -
Well, don't forget you can get water from ponds too. Right now there's no difference, but eventually drinking from certain water sources will cause disease (hence the water purification tablets). It'd be nice if wells were a pure, non-diseased water source and ponds had a risk of causing, I don't know, cholera. Given how common wells are, however, it makes no sense to drink from a diseased pond when a well is 5 minutes' walk away, so it makes sense to have a random number of wells per-server (preferably the majority, 60% ish) be dry so players are encouraged to stock up on water when they can rather than knowing that there's always a clean water supply nearby. I also think that it should beimpossible to just drink loads and be fine for the next hour. I heard there were changes to stomach capacity, so maybe that's been fixed now.
-
Could be a random number of wells that are dry on each server. That'd be pretty cool. Maybe have the wells as a reliable source of clean water, but some (maybe even most) wells have dried up, meaning players will either have to stock up on water when they do find a well or they'll have to risk drinking from ponds if they don't have any soda or purification tablets.

Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
BeefBacon replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
You mean like when I want to play 1pp, can't find a server and end up having to play 3pp? You don't seem to understand the issue. The issue isn't that there is a third-person perspective. The issue isn't that it's unrealistic. The issue is that it can be exploited to the detriment of gameplay. This exploit, however, is a fundamental part of 3pp. It's the same with server hopping and ghosting - a fundamental issue of multiplayer games of this kind. Lots of people server hop. I'd even go so far as to say most people server hop. If the devs, at long last, announced a watertight solution to server hopping how many people do you think would defend it? How many would go "but server hopping is the only way to get loot with this loot system!" or "what if the server I'm on is buggy and I have to hop?" or "what if I want to see how my character blends into the surroundings?" People don't play 3pp for greater tactical awareness or for FoV reasons or any of that nonsense. They play it so they can exploit it. Players prefer 3pp because they have that exploit. No, but I am entitled to an opinion. As a 'single videogamer' I don't think that AC-130 killstreaks have a place in DayZ either. I'm not 'dictating' anything I'm just voicing my opinion. One could consider scalable LoD an exploit. I think that settings like shadows and grass should have a lowest setting but shouldn't be disabled, but only when the game has reached a suitably optimised state. Well then I suppose using Counter-Strike: Source as a baseline when talking about CS:GO is pointless too. Isn't like they have many of the same gamemodes, same maps, same models, same gameplay, similar engines or anything like that. They're games in their own rights and shouldn't be compared. Even better, it's not worth comparing the original Counter-Strike mod to the full game released by Valve later the same year, because the latter is a game in its own right. Isn't about getting rid of 3pp. It's about making 3pp no longer exploitable. People are indirectly defending the exploit by making other claims about 3pp. The advantages posed by 3pp are outweighed by its disadvantages. Get rid of those disadvantages and we're golden. This is a mod for Arma 3 that occludes objects that cannot be seen in first person. Seeing that it's pretty much just a few lines of code it's a little janky, but I'd love to see a polished version of this feature in-game: -
More zombies? Less ammo? By the gods, what revolutionary ideas, why has nobody suggested this before?

Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
BeefBacon replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
This is the problem. It's no good saying "if you don't like 3pp then just don't play it" if there are no 1pp servers to play on. People play 3pp because it's easier. They can peek around walls without any risk to themselves, shoot and then run. Why do you think the "INCREASED LOOT SPAWN, 24/7 DAY" servers are so popular? DayZ, even Arma, should never have had a 3pp mode. It has no place in a milsim and it has no place in a survival game. I understand why people defend it, and when I play 1pp I sometimes wish I could see my character; but when given the choice between maybe having my gun poking out of a bush and being able to see round walls through a disembodied perspective, I'd rather go with the former. I'd have no problem with 3pp if it couldn't be used to peek round walls. Hell, I'd play it more myself. For now, as far as I'm concerned, it's an exploit that I'd prefer not to use. -
Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
BeefBacon replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
3pp is a crutch. It's pretty hard to deny that. I'd like to see a system whereby items and players that are not visible in 1pp should be occluded in 3pp. Either that or make it so that all players and items are invisible in 3pp. You still get to 'be aware of your surroundings' by seeing how you blend into foliage, but you don't get to camp on roofs and peek around walls. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/179477-arma3-third-person-fix-modthoughts/ -
Pretty sure if you had steam coming off of your clothes you'd be boiled alive. Having water drip off of wet clothes or, better yet, a shader that makes wet surfaces shiny would be much better.

One of the more important suggestions a dev could read. Will literally increase the game's chance of success two-fold. (Seriously.)
BeefBacon replied to choobie's topic in Suggestions
I'd like to see a Mount and Blade style melee system, where your angle of attack, speed and weapon type all play into how much damage you do. For example, a fire axe would do a lot of damage when swung, but you could easily whiff by hitting the target with the handle rather than with the head of the axe making it impractical for extreme close-quarters. A knife or machete, however, are smaller weapons and so do less damage but are much more reliable against closer targets, especially when used to stab (rather than swing). An ideal attack would be one where your weapon is moving at its fastest when being swung and where the character is moving towards the target for increased forward momentum. -
Where to loot (if there is any point?)
BeefBacon replied to SurvivorAndy's topic in General Discussion
I'm confused. Fully geared character? Are you having trouble finding items or not? Some buildings don't spawn items. Some buildings spawn near-useless items. Most buildings will spawn something of value, it's just a case of knowing what buildings spawn what. You can either look it up or learn by playing. Loot is bound to change, though. It's remained virtually unchanged since 'release', so expect more and different loot in more and different buildings down the line. -
You're right. Mirrored textures = the game will fail. Game over, guys. Literally. The devs are leaving the building. It was a good run, but common practice for creating 3D models has scuppered the entire project.
-
I'd rather see a 'burn body' function, provided you have matches. The body is destroyed but also creates a smoke signal, making it not entirely risk-free. Obviously it'd be even more dangerous at night.
-
Maybe not a Bart Simpson slingshot, but an old style sling I can definitely get behind. Maybe combine a rope with a rag to make it, then look at the ground to pick up stones for it. In real life a well-placed shot from a sling can shatter a femur, but it should be less powerful in-game for balance reasons. Would be nice to see a high chance to break bones, though. Could be good for incapacitating players rather than killing them. It should also be extremely difficult to aim.

Will There Ever be "Epoch" for Standalone?
BeefBacon replied to cheeseburger8's topic in General Discussion
I imagine that trading and safe zones and all that nonsense will be added in mods. It'll be interesting to see what the community comes up with. Also, "Dayz Epoch server" and "DayZ not Epoch server"? That's such a strange way of putting it. How about "DayZ" and "DayZ Epoch"? ;D -
That's right. Yamamoto wasn't concerned he had mobilised a continent-sized industrial military machine; he said it (supposedly) in reference to the DayZ devs delaying a release to stable. You fucking pillock. Cool stuff in this report. Do we know if the new inventory will be completely customisable - like dragging inventory boxes around the screen and placing them where we want - or will there just be a few presets?

A possible solution for communicating physiological needs
BeefBacon replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I still think I'd prefer icons over text. A water bottle or a water drop should appear in the corner if you're thirsty. It should stay for a few seconds and then fade. If ever your condition changes the corresponding icon should appear to inform you of the change rather than getting "I'm hungry" "I want to eat something" every 30 seconds. The mod did something similar, I think, but those icons were persistent. -
A trading system would be nice. Dropping items on the ground for somebody else to pick up isn't really ideal. Would be nice if you could give an item directly to another player, which the other player can either accept or ignore.

Any of you guys wonder what time period dayz is in.
BeefBacon replied to Azzerrrr's topic in General Discussion
Some time after 2009. Possibly present day or very near future. The Arma 2 campaign takes place in 2009, which forms part of the DayZ backstory. There are old vehicles because Chernarus is a post-Soviet backwater. -
New Ammo Type:7.62 tokarev and the tt33 ppsh41 and the c96
BeefBacon replied to agouti's topic in Suggestions
While I like the idea of these guns being added, I'm not a huge fan of diluting the ammo pool even further, especially if it's with yet another 7.62 round. I'd rather these weapons use existing ammo, even if they don't use that ammo in real life. -
I can't really think of any items that would be damaged by being punched. Tin cans, maybe? Even then it should just open the tin can and lose some of the contents. Scopes could maybe have their lenses cracked, and sticks could be broken, but I'm not sure what else. Gunfire and certain melee weapons, of course, should be able to cause considerable damage to items.
