Would be nice if distant gunshots sounded more like a crack or a pop. Sounds are placeholder at the moment, though.

I get this a lot, usually when I lose connection to a server and then try joining another one (or that same one). Takes a couple of attempts, but it gets there eventually. Restarting DayZ helps.

Phones, Pepper Spray, Tear Gas, Wallets, Belts, Hip Flasks
BeefBacon replied to bobotype3334's topic in Suggestions
Oh yes I'm quite aware of that, but for gameplay purposes this would make sense. Take STALKER for example. If you get radiation poisoning you can just neck a few bottles of vodka. Vodka is common, but the tradeoff is that it's heavy and less effective than other anti-radiation drugs, as well as causing temporary drunkenness. In real life drinking a bottle of vodka wouldn't cure you of radiation sickness, but videogames. So I figure that vodka could be big and heavy and cause drunkenness, but also warm up the player. Could also cause vomiting if used too much. If not that then it could negate the effects of being cold (shivering, slow running speed, etc) but it won't stop you from freezing to death. And yes, lighters would be very dim but they should be able to cast some light on, say, the pitch black interior of a house when looting at night. My opposition to phones is more personal preference than some objective reasoning. I just don't think it fits into DayZ. A shitty phone from the early 2000s could make sense, given the setting, but I wouldn't want to see iPhones loaded with Apple maps. As an alternative means of long-distance communication I have no problem with it, but as a GPS? I'd rather GPS be limited to dedicated devices rather than a mobile phone. -
I'm a professional video editor. I design a lot of intros, among other things. The attention span of people is indeed short, which is why I recommended that it be cut down. Just some friendly advice :)
-
Well I base that off of the assumption that the player grabbed whatever he could before jumping into the sea off of some sinking ship. Would make sense to grab some clean, waterproof food if there happened to be some at hand. But yes, random low-tier clothing would be good, provided it's ruined. Your first objective should be to replace whatever you're wearing, or at least dry off.
-
I've watched a few of your videos, and I like them, but I have to skip the intro. It just drags on for so long. You should shorten it; make it half the length or shorter.
-
I'd like the LRS to be mountable on the CR527. Mosin should only be able to mount the PU scope. I imagine the Mosin is more of a placeholder sniper for now, though.

Why not just make it so your spawn clothes are ruined and soaking? You did just wash up on a beach, after all. Slightly randomised clothes would be nice, with randomised spawn gear, like the possibility to spawn with an unopened can of beans, or a screwdriver, or a chemlight or something.

Damn it, I was going to say something like that. I've got my eye on you.

Phones, Pepper Spray, Tear Gas, Wallets, Belts, Hip Flasks
BeefBacon replied to bobotype3334's topic in Suggestions
Not super interested in phones, but pepper spray, tear gas and lighters are pretty cool ideas. A lighter could be an alternative to matches, though it's not as though matches are rare or take up much space. Could also serve as a lightsource, though not a very good one. Actually wouldn't mind seeing players spawn with a lighter instead of a flashlight. A lighter would be a source of light and a means to make a fire, which should be extremely useful to your average survivor. Should have limited fluid, though. Maybe lighter fluid could come in bottles, and can be combined with a rag to make a firebomb. Can't really see hip flasks being introduced unless they spawn with drinkable alcohol that, I don't know, warms you up or something. Belts... eh. Could be a means to mount small packs and maybe holster a pistol. Could also maybe be a means of slowing bleeding if you don't have access to clean bandages. -
Oh, really? Interesting. Can't say I've noticed it. Cool nonetheless. I could get on that. The 'full status effect not actually having any effect (or maybe even have a slight positive effect like a Goldilocks zone that player can choose to maintain for a slight benefit) but just tells you "if you eat any more then you will suffer a negative effect of some sort. I, personally, would like being stuffed (or hungry) to have an effect on fatigue and running speed should fatigue be introduced. Players should have to be careful about how much they eat and when, rather than more food = better until you start vomiting.
-
We do it IRL, that's true, but we don't stuff ourselves with beans, dry rice and canned bacon and then proceed to run 6km. Hell, I went to McDonald's a while back and the 15 minute walk home almost killed me. Players should have to conserve food and eat it gradually if they want to be healthy. If they stuff themselves to bursting there should be some negative effect. Ideally I'd like to see a simple diet system-in game, where a player that eats a variety of food types will be (somehow) healthier than a player who lives off of Tactical Bacon.

Well I suppose the point is that it would be silly to, I don't know, have a sniper rifle and a pistol or something share the same ammo. If the ammo is really common then people who have the sniper rifle are going to be laughing. If it's really rare then people won't be able to use some poxy pistol. Now, if a sniper happens to share ammo with a weapon of a similar level like, I don't know, some DMR or something then fine, it should be rare, but if it shares ammo with a machine gun then people are either going to have way too much sniper ammo or people are going to be scraping together a handful rounds for their mg. Bear in mind that I have no idea what the difference between .50 BMG and .338 Lapua Magnum. I have a vague inkling that .50 BMG is probably used in .50 calibre sniper rifles and .338 is used in that one Counter-Strike sniper, but besides that I have no idea what the difference is or why one would be preferred over the other. If I had to guess then I'd say that .50 is used in more rifles while .338 is used in only a couple (pertaining to your point). But, again, I have absolutely no understanding of the difference between them. That goes for all bullets. What the difference between 7.62x54mmr or whatever and 7.62x39mm is I have no idea.
-
Couldn't possibly care less. However, if it's a simple case of changing it from 7.62 to 7.62x55rb6bangboomshootyshoot then I have no problem with it. Not interested in more ammo types, however. I'd like at least 2 guns to each ammo type, unless there's something specialist like a fancy sniper rifle or a light machine gun. But yeah, provided all bullets either look distinct from one another or have reasonably distinct names then fine. I think the devs have done a decent job of that so far.

See, when you take the time to explain your position you sound much more reasonable. Making sweeping statements like "I think all scopes should be removed" is like making a strawman of yourself ;D And yeah, that M4 kill was one of my first deaths. Was at the barracks in Zelenogorsk, he shot me through the window. I am still yet to be sniped, however. I make use of defilades and treelines, and generally stick to the outskirts of towns where I can easily find cover, unless I make a beeline for a fire station or police station. I also watch rooftops for silhouettes, and do my best to break line of sight as regularly as possible with any likely sniper spots. Even at NWAF I've never really run into trouble, at least not of the sniper variety. But, again, I stick to the edges for the most part. I actually completely avoid the ATC and fire station and go for the barracks and jail buildings since they're less exposed. I've got 94 hours in DayZ. Isn't the 900 that some people have, but hey. I figure my caution has gone a long way towards me not being sniped. But yes, more rifles would be nice. Also, CR75 (or whatever that carbine is called) mags would be nice. I've never seen one. Recently I've been using lever-action rifles but I always drop it for an SKS. Just seems to be the most versatile weapon, and suits the ranges that I tend to engage at while allowing me to spam bullets at close quarters.

Personally I think using firearms is a very low level of gameplay, chosen by those unable to play the game in any other way and as such hope that all guns are removed from the game. If you can hit someone from 500km using a thrown splint then you have my admiration, if you need a gun then you have my contempt. And no, I'm not looking 'down on you', I'm just regarding you with contempt. In all seriousness I understand your objections. Sniping, at this stage, is pretty easy. All you have to account for is bullet drop and travel time. Down the line, however, I imagine that factors such as wind will have an effect, which will making sniping considerably more difficult. In the mean time, however, it's silly to demand that all scopes be removed from the game. It's asinine. Pay attention to your surroundings. I've never been sniped. I have, however, had an M4 mag emptied into the side of my head. He didn't even need a scope.

Just wanted to clear it up, as I'm not sure. Started playing DayZ again recently and I'm finding loot absolutely everywhere. I can be full of food and water and have a weapon with ammo within 20 - 30 minutes. Once upon a time I'd spawn in a city or village and the place would be populated by jeans and rotten kiwis. All the doors are open, which indicates that players have already been through. I think I read that doors now spawn randomly open or closed, but I really do mean -all- the doors. Last I heard item respawning was really buggy, but it seems to be working well now. I've not found empty cities or rooms stuffed with items. So, is respawning loot enabled or have I been in the wake of a chronic door opener?

Fuel Source Depletion And Alternative Fuel Sources (Server Uptime)
BeefBacon replied to Steak and Potatoes's topic in Suggestions
Would this mean vehicles would respawn? Can't help but think that all the vehicles would be destroyed before all the fuel could be used. If vehicles can respawn it doesn't really make sense to have fuel be limited, even if there are alternatives. I'd like there to be alternative fuel sources, but I think gas stations should be unlimited (unless destroyed) making them valuable locations to control. -
Time to reduce run speed with vehicles inbound?
BeefBacon replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
I don't really want a reduction in run speed. I'd rather see a stamina system that is affected by a variety of factors: -Weight of gear -Hunger and thirst (including stuffed) -Health (sickness) -Dryness A completely ungeared player who is dry, healthy, energised and hydrated will be able to sprint for longer (and maybe faster) than a player that is carrying a lot of gear, has wet clothes, is sick, hungry and thirsty. The sprint should really be more of a dash that allows a middling player to run across a street and maybe get into a flanking position. It shouldn't be a means of travel. I imagine that we won't see any changes until vehicles are properly implemented, so we can repair, customise, etc. -
Medic here. Everyone is starving to death
BeefBacon replied to spuddy0108's topic in General Discussion
Before a couple of days ago I hadn't played DayZ in months. Found huge amounts of food. Spawned in Svetlojarsk. Is it possible that you're going through areas that have already been looted? -
When changing clothes (within your inventory), items in your old clothing should automatically be transferred to the new clothing. For example, your inventory is full and your character is cold so you're wearing - I don't know - a hoodie. It starts to rain, so you swap to a rain coat. Instead of dropping your hoodie, putting on the rain coat, dragging the items from the hoodie into the rain coat and then putting the hoodie in your inventory, the items in your hoodie should automatically swap to the rain coat. If there's room, the hoodie should automatically be put in your inventory, otherwise it drops. This system would only work with items that are already in your inventory, so you can't quickly swap out clothing that you find on the ground. It's useful to those of us who switch between clothing on a semi-regular basis - this seems to be more common now that there's rain, heat and cold.
-
I'll be disappointed if hoods don't make it in. Rolling up sleeves and so on would be neat and all, but I'm not too fussed. I'm all about the hoods. Layered clothing would be good, though, even if it's just a utility that makes swapping clothes easier. There's been few times where I've had to swap between a jacket and a t-shirt because I'm heating up and cooling down. Doesn't really make sense that I'd need to take off my t-shirt to put on a jacket, so it'd be nice if I could always wear a t-shirt underneath my clothing.

Can only carry gun/tool on your baack if you have a pack
BeefBacon replied to Karmaterror's topic in Suggestions
Doesn't really bother me. Most of the time I'll find a backpack before I find a gun. If I find a melee weapon first I'll generally keep it in my hands. I suppose I'm not against the notion of requiring certain bags to carry weapons on your back. Would be interesting, as a freshspawn, to have to decide between picking up an axe or a mosin. I'd like to see all packs be able to carry at least one weapon, however, regardless of whether they'd be able to in real life. Some bags should allow you to carry both a melee weapon and a gun. A system like this would also make ghillie users at a slight disadvantage given that they cannot wear backpacks, so they'd have to invest in a melee weapon that can fit inside clothing if they wanted to carry one. -
You might be better off sending this as a bug report. Not sure posting duping methods is really approved of, despite your intentions. But no, I've not experienced this.
