So I suppose that anyone who has played the game for more than a few hours has a pretty decent idea of where to find food, clothing and weapons. House A is virtually guaranteed to spawn a gun, house B is likely to spawn ammo and house C is a good bet for a lot of food. House D and E might spawn a can of Pipsi and some sunglasses. The result is that Houses D and E are completely overlooked because people know that the odds of finding better loot are better in other buildings. It'd be better if all residential buildings had completely random spawn chances, with no one building having a higher chance than any other to spawn a Mosin or some ammo. Buildings like police stations and fire stations should, of course, still spawn items relevant to them, respectively - but I shouldn't make a beeline for the corner building or the log cabin and be pretty much guaranteed to find a weapon. And while on the subject of loot, I'd really like to see the removal of the fake item props - stuff like the chopped firewood and the line of shoes. Feels sort of weird that I can't take a nice pair of shoes when my feet or bleeding, or use a pile of dry firewood when I'm freezing. Of course it'd be even better if those props were replaced with actual items.

Big bumper battle pack.

Can you two just go ahead and have the world's shittiest rap battle? This is fucking pathetic. I'm sure you both play PC games. Praise Gaben and all that. In answer to the OP, such a discussion seems fruitless before the game hits at least beta. Fiddle around with .cfgs and such. In my case I disable shadows and antialiasing since they seem to have the biggest impact on performance (on my system). I've also lowered view distance. I get 20-35fps in cities (which is just about playable) and a solid 50-60 elsewhere - an improvement over around 20fps in cities and 40-odd elsewhere.

Pretty sure all of these are planned features, in some form or another. Don't know about spraypaint (though I imagine more colours will be available eventually) but you'll be able to dye clothing pretty much any colour you want by mixing dyes in a barrel - or that's what I gathered from a dev video that I'm sure somebody will link.

That'd be cool. Sort of like the Zombies in Half-Life 2 that can be heard (I think when played backwards, but you know) saying things like "God please help me" and stuff like that. Also that 'The Horror' video is a really nice example of good sound design. The gun sounds could be better, but everything else is spot on.

Only if we can drink it:

Huh. I actually like most of these, bar the cover system. Human shields would probably be glitchy as hell, but cool if they could be added in reliably. Never been a big fan of the idea that guns should need rope to keep them holstered. I always assumed that guns just came with a strap on them already. At most they should require the presence of a backpack.

How Often Do You Meet Survivors?
BeefBacon replied to The Vampire Lestat's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't see people very often. Most of the time when I do see somebody it's because they're driving a car, so I can hear them a mile off. Last time I played I was wondering through the woods and this guy just guns it past me, completely oblivious that I was there. Could easily have shot him as he ran by, but I didn't. Was tempted, though. -
Blood and Bullet holes (Decals & Particle effects)
BeefBacon replied to LackLustreSurvivor's topic in Suggestions
That is... a lot of pictures ;D No doubt this has been suggested before, but I still agree. Arma 2 (as far as I recall) sort of had decals, but they were quite ugly. It certainly didn't display decals of any sort on player models and vehicles. I think this would add a lot to the game. Make it less sterile. As a side note, parallax for bullet holes would be really cool. Fresh blood splatters looking wet would also be a really nice touch. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
BeefBacon replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Don't the items in ruined clothing get damaged more easily? I often find that when a jacket or something is ruined most of the items in it get ruined too. Have to say I do prefer how ruined clothes look, though. -
I hope they make all bandanas tieable eventually. Seems stupid that only some of them can be tied... maybe the ones worn as caps just have a really, really tight knot. I do have to question their choice of colour, though. If I wanted to cocneal my face, for whatever reason, I don't think high-contrast floral patterns and polka dots would be my first choice.

While one could argue that a male character should be stronger than a female character, I don't think it'd be conducive to gameplay. The difference should be purely aesthetic. However, if a difference was to be implemented it should be barely noticeable. Being able to carry slightly less being balanced out by, say, requiring slightly less food would be acceptable. Making female characters straight-up weaker would mean nobody would ever play them... not to mention the flak BI would get.

Whitelisted means you have to be on a list of permitted players in order to join a server. I think in the context of DayZ, however, this refers to knowing a server's password but using the term 'whitelist' can generally refer to servers that are locked in some way. Now, I'm not sure how to find them (maybe somebody can help with that) but you might have some luck if you browse the servers section of the forums. EDIT Whitelisted servers usually have a form of soem sort that you can fill out. Your SteamID is used to grant you access.

Try getting a friend to play DayZ. I've got a couple of mates who I occasionally play with. The helicopter thing sucks. I only shoot people if they surprise me or if they present an actual threat. I guess you just got unlucky - either they were just arseholes or they simply didn't understand you. Either way, bad luck. Generally speaking it's best to be cautious in military areas. Almost all of my deaths have happened while looting a military base or something. People are just more eager to kill on sight in high-loot places, regardless of their disposition. I think it's wrong to say you're playing it wrong, because you're not. You're probably a little more trusting than other players might be, and don't approach with as much caution, but there's nothing wrong with that. Could give RP servers a go, they look pretty fun. Most of them are whitelisted, so you're less likely to run into hackers, exploiters and people who KoS, so I reckon they'd mesh better with your social playstyle.

I think part of the problem is that the game is in real time. Days should maybe be 30 minutes - an hour long so as to remove the illusion that your character is bulimic.

I'd love to see a proper map border. Sort of breaks immersion when you see an endless plane of nothing. A mountain range to the north would be good, perhaps with a wide river running from the mountains south along the western edge of the map. Of course that wouldn't deter boats and helicopters, but I'm sure some measure could be taken to prevent vehicles from going too far.

That makes me feel weird. In a good way. I think.

Played DayZ last night. Ran into a chap in Berezino (I think) who's legs were broken. I tried to use rags and a stick to make a splint for him, but nothing happened. Tried giving him the stick and rags but he couldn't make a splint either. In the end I offered to kill him, which was unfortunate. A little later on I found a pig which I then killed. I tried skinning it with a hunting knife but, again, nothing happened. Viewing contents yielded nothing. Obviously these are bugs, but I'm wondering if there are any ways to get around them? Should I have had room in my inventory to skin an animal? Should I have tried dragging sticks onto the rags, etc? I'm keen to give hunting a go. Made my first fireplace last night.

Awesome, thanks very much. The server (The WOBO one) was mostly full as it usually is. I was just playing on it a few minutes ago and managed to skin a cow with no problems. Not tried a splint yet, though. It possible that there's a problem with pigs, or just a one-off?

Jeans. Light blue jeans. Spent an hour going through an untouched town last night. Nada.

I don't know. A 20 - 30 minute wait wouldn't be so bad. I'd actually quite like that since killing the same player over and over again as they try to get their gear is probably pretty common. Up to an hour I could just get along with but 12 - 24 hours? Not a chance. However, I can see that being a thing on big RP servers, but I doubt that sort of thing would become the norm.

I'd like the reload mechanic to receive an overhaul in general. If you have no magazine, pressing R should chamber a round. If you have something like a Mosin or an SKS each round should be put in one at a time (making clips pretty important). Same goes with loading rounds into clips and magazines. Maybe not one at a time, but it should certainly take a few seconds at least. I like the idea of larger magazines taking longer to load, especially given the presence of those 75rnd drums.

About 3m - 4m. Was pretty tough to pull off. He was on one end of a room in the school building in Elektro and I was way on the other side of the room. Obviously required a lot of skill to hit a moving target. Rangefinder helped, of course, but ultimately my skills were the deciding factor in landing such a well-calculated shot.

I don't think you know what found footage means ;D Good work, though. Try and get the shed to move with the video. Some programs allow you to track movement in a video and apply it to a static image. Even very slight movements can ruin the illusion, though I suspect that the grass swaying didn't help. Also play around with the overall brightness and contrast of the shed (get used to using curves and levels) to make it blend better with the environment. Shed seems to stick out wrong in that regard. No particular glaring mistakes, though, which is good. I'd recommend a less obnoxious 'old video' effect in future as it got a little distracting. Could also be worth adding a little bit of movement. You could try handheld, invest in (or make) a dolly track or add a small amount of movement in post (has varying success rates) to make the video a little less static in general. But yeah, decent framing for the most part. Good costumes and props, decent sound though I'd have gone with a different choice in music. Credits were good too.
