'Fix lighting' in what respect? Light is sometimes cast inside of buildings but, I suspect, that'll be addressed by the renderer and changes to occlusion and optimisation. I also suspect that dynamic shadows from torches and fireplaces will eventually make an appearance. But asking about, say, lighting or some advanced feature like parallax or full reflective textures is completely different to asking about something like fps or desync. Of course desync and fps will at least be addressed because they're core aspects of every game. I do see your point, however, but I don't think it's really applicable in this instance.

I think the point he was making is that DayZ will go through optimisation passes down the line rather than having it constantly optimised as development progresses. My understanding is that the performance issues are mostly to do with the renderer - invisible faces being drawn and such. Once the new renderer (among other things) is in then it might be possibe, and feasible, to address performance. But honestly I find your post to be benign. "This game feature used to work but now it's fixed, will this ever change?" No. Never. Any and all gameplay features are final at this point. "Will fps and desync issues ever be addressed?" The DayZ team has repeatedly stated that they want everyone to play at max 25fps, and for servers to have 500+ ping. See what I'm getting at? Asking "the game is unfinished. Do the devs have plans to finish the game?" is pretty silly. Have a browse through the status reports. I think they release them every week. They're quite informative. As DayZ is developed features will break unintentionally and things will change. This happens with all games, but we don't get as much insight into other games. I've no doubt that Half-Life 3 is a disgusting, buggy mess at this point but nobody knows because they don't have people participating in an open alpha - and nobody has access to the pocket dimension created by Gabe Newell where everything comes in threes, so that contributes too.

Ah, oh. Um. There should only be... Russian things! You shit. Down with all the things I don't approve of. I don't necessarily think camo gear should be rare. Certainly camo gear that is still in use should be- so I'm assuming stuff like Gorka, but old military clothing like DPM and probably others should be pretty common, at least in villages and deer stands where it might see use for hunters and workers and such. Of course from a gameplay perspective it could be beneficial to limit access to camo gear.

Nobody has ever suggested this gun in the history of ever, ever. Regardless, it'd be cool - especially if it takes the same ammo as the mosin since I'm not a huge fan of an ammunition type fitting in only one gun, especially if it's a common low-tier weapon. Would be even better if it could mount scopes and so on, though perhaps not the PSO since if the SVT can mount it then the SKS should be able to mount it too. Then again, maybe that wouldn't be an awful state of affairs.

What's the problem? Are you unable to bind arrow keys to anything? Try using something like IKJL. It's on the right side and you'll get more options for keys (like U and O could be lean. Y, perhaps, could be inventory).

It's very sluggish. I don't know if it's the server or what, but items in my inventory take several seconds to update. That isn't such an issue, but it takes almost a minute, sometimes more, to search a tree for apples or to perform any kind of action. I waited a good two minutes each time after trying to 'eat all' a can of sardines before giving up and eating it in pieces. Just doing the 'eat' action took at least 30 seconds as opposed to the 3-or-so it's supposed to take. Finding a server to join is difficult. It'll usually hang on 'wait for host' or I'll just get a connection error. In the end I had to join some poxy American server. I also spawned on Skalisky Island which sort of compounded problems a bit. I picked up some magnum ammo but finding a book and tearing a page out of it at more or less the same time caused my ammo to disappear into the ether, which wasn't the best. Might give it another go tomorrow and see if I can actually join a UK server, but I'll likely stick with stable if it continues to be unplayable. Searching one tree a minute and not finding a single apple gets a little frustrating. It didn't behave like lag usually does in DayZ, but I suppose joining a UK server will rule that out.

PvP and KoS is what makes the game interesting. I'd get bored pretty quickly if everyone I met was friendly. Hell, meeting people is exciting because you don't know if they're going to try and kill you. Therein lies the risk. The reward is not guaranteed. I think teamwork should be encouraged but not necessary. Teamwork makes many tasks easier, but I don't think there should be anything that can only be achieved through teamwork, except perhaps carrying large objects that might require two people. Bloodbagging in particular is something a player should be able to do by themselves. Obviously they'll still need to know blood types and such, but actually using the bloodbag to replenish blood shouldn't require a friend. Base building should also be possible alone but, obviously, more people makes work faster.

Exp is separate so no, but characters will likely get wiped when 0.56 hits stable so it doesn't really matter either way.

Let the server-hopping scrubs play on public. Doesn't affect me. I can't think of any anti-server hopping measure that doesn't run the risk of punishing honest players.
-
Yeah I'd like to see semi-regular wipes. Maybe not for every update, but for big updates and new features there should be.

I think bows would become a lot more useful if they could be carried alongside a rifle and a melee weapon, or if they replaced the melee slot. On the one occasion I actually crafted a bow before I found a weapon, I found a shotgun 5 minutes later, and I had shells. I used the bow to kill maybe two zombies. It was great because it's effectively a silenced weapon which is ideal for picking off zombies, but I'm not going to use it if it means sacrificing a more effective weapon. Either that or, as you say, introduce better bows or allow the current bow to be upgraded in some way; in addition to improving the current bow mechanics as using them is quite the hassle.

Ooh yes please. This'd be wonderful. Could see it acting kind of weird if you were to wear a jacket vest over a jacket, though. Besides that, however, I really like it.

Ah, well, I thought I'd cover all bases :D And yes, I think magazines would become less valuable if ammunition was rarer. Having half a dozen 30rnd mags would be just a waste of space if you only have 40 rounds. I'd love to see a great deal of customisation for all weapons. I don't want any two weapons to be exactly alike. Ammunition types would be neat too. Slugs for shotguns, for example, or armour-piercing rounds for rifles that can wreck a car's engine or penetrate a wall or something. Certainly slugs at the very least; would make shotguns quite versatile.

I always crank up the resolution and turned down antialiasing. Never tried it the other way round. Might hop on now and play around with settings. Clouds I turn off. I get a good 10fps boost that way. I also keep shadows off but turn on AO to compensate. AO seems to be less demanding than very low shadows. View distance is another hog, which is a shame because being able to see for miles looks awesome. It can be pretty difficult to navigate when you can only see 1000m or so ahead, but given that each players' 'bubble' is only 1000 meters (or so I heard) it's not too impactful on gameplay.

This is the sort of mentality that I really dislike. I mean no offence. I agree that finding weapons and ammunition should be hard, but there exists this false dichotomy where either everyone is kitted with AK101s and a dozen mags, or everyone on the server is fighting with rocks for the last can of beans. Neither sounds like much fun. I, for one, think magazines should be far, far more common but that they shouldn't spawn full of ammunition. The vast majority should spawn empty. Pistol magazines should be extremely common. I'd like to see pistols, shotguns and rifles function as the primary firearms, with a select few having access to military-grade weapons. Ammunition should be diffuse. Finding one or two rounds in a house should be easy, but finding enough to fill a magazine should require the scouring of a small town. I hate that you can get 20 or 50 rounds off the bat by finding a pristine box of ammo.

Was about to make this very same suggestion, though I was going to say for all boots. Bump.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
BeefBacon replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
They're better. I didn't play the mod so I can't compare, but compared to a couple of months ago they're vastly improved. In addition to improvements to AI they're now much less likely to drift through doors and walls. In my experience it's very rare for them to ignore obstacles, though it's not uncommon for them to be able to hit you through walls or from a distance of several meters, so watch out for that. -
I actually really like this. I think that from light blisters onwards there should be a minuscule chance of infection (increasing with each level). Would encourage proper footwear as well, perhaps balancing shoes that might be stealthy (athletic shoes) with good all-round shoes (combat boots). Perhaps having wet shoes could accelerate foot damage and increase the chance of infection.

Yeah, I think the third one is certainly more important. Weapons testing is probably one of the easiest things to do in-house. I can't think of very many gun-related bugs that are specific to one weapon, so being able to test if guns work isn't really important. What's important is the game mechanics. One change might bugger up, say, your ability to drink from a well, or it might mean that walking on a certain surface breaks your legs. That's the sort of thing that needs to be tested - not solely the efficacy of weapons or other items. Your English is fine, bud. I suppose you mean "I think it IS a good idea, but..." rather than "I think it WILL BE a good idea, but..." but frankly both make perfect sense. Most people, however, would be inclined to say "I think it's a good idea" rather than "will be" however. Also in your signature it says 'I still learning English'. Should be 'I'm' or 'I am still learning English' - 'I'm' being a contraction of 'I' and 'am'. Also worth mentioning that the correct form of the little quote you have would be "When life shows you a hundred (or one hundred) reasons to cry, show it a thousand (or one thousand) reasons to smile." Remember that plurals (more than one) usually have the letter 's' at the end to signify it. I suppose 'shows' isn't really a plural but I guess that's just a quirk of the language. Hope that helps!

cool little device i thought we could use in dayz

Punctuation. Oh God. I've got no problem with German Army uniforms or weapons like the MP40 or K98 - I'd actually quite like to see them as they're pretty neat. Same goes for WW2 Soviet weapons like the PPSH or whatever it's called. A Nazi belt buckle that shoots bullets, though? Come on. Anti-tank rifles has come up before, and I actually quite like it. It's a weapon that'd be cumbersome and ineffective against infantry, but which would be fairly effective against things like helicopters and lightly armoured vehicles. -
Yeah I've got a couple of characters with silenced MP5s - both of which I nicked off of a random corpse. I guess they starved or bled out or something because their gear was pristine. Anyway, I'm actually bored of those characters, but I don't want to lose them because they're so well geared. I'm caught in this loop of awful where I want those characters to disappear but I don't want them to die. I actually really like character wipes because then I don't feel pressured to lead my characters to their graves so I can have fun starting over :D

No need to get upset. Two disparaging comments shouldn't be enough for you to flip the board and storm out of the room. I suppose a dive would be cool. Pretty sure Arma 2 had a dive animation of sorts if you went prone while sprinting. Unless I'm mistaken I'm pretty sure in DayZ you stop dead, crouch and then go prone. The idea of diving backwards onto your back doesn't really make sense, though. I can't think of any circumstance where that would be benefical unless you're Max Payne.

Thanks! Tried it out and I get a solid 60 FPS in Novo. Never drops below 60, or goes above 60 which is pretty crazy. Obviously it comes with a couple of fundamental changes to the game, but well worth it for the FPS boost.

I'm not much of an artist. If I put more time into it then it might look better, but it gets its message across. Give 1pp a go. It's like 3pp, but with enjoyable pvp.
