Not even going to ask why you're making arrowheads ;D Yeah that seems like a reasonable tradeoff. Maybe make it easy to make an arrow, but make it more difficult or time consuming to make a good arrow. Can choose between having a shitty, blunt, bent arrow or a nice, straight, sharp one. Arrowheads is something I'd like to see expanded. Arrowheads made from metal shards, sharp stones, glass as you mentioned would be pretty cool.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
BeefBacon replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A news article that doesn't appear to provide a link to the study... and as a side note the author apparently tried a homeopathic treatment - which is hilarious. It's about as good a source as "there's a study that shows that 0 - 100% of people suffer from haemorrhoids, therefore my point is proven" I also get motion sick. I demand that CSGO have a third person mode. It won't damage the gameplay at all, no sir. I also find it amusing how many people are whining about how all public servers will be 1pp. All official servers. Not all public servers. Good job, guys. The devs will never force 1pp. Some consider that a shame, which is understandable. I think it's a shame that 3pp was ever included in the first place, but it'd be unfair to remove it now that so many cling onto it for dear life, threatening to leave if it's taken away from them. DayZ is supposed to be played in 1pp, but 3pp has had its claws dug into DayZ since the mod. It's detrimental to PvP and PvE. It has its benefits, of course. I like being able to see my character running about... okay so it has one benefit, unless you're one of the 50% of people who projectile vomits at the very thought of a first-person shooter. If I could play 1pp on a private server I would. Lucky for me, 1pp servers are hugely depopulated so I'm forced to play 3pp. No doubt that's the case for many 1pp players who don't necessarily want to join a nearly empty server in the hopes that the other 1pp players might also want to help populate a single 1pp server amongst a sea of people who leak from every orifice if they can't see the back of their character's head. Also, pro tip: You can turn off head bob. I keep it on a teeny tiny bit (like a few pixels' worth of the slider) but you can completely disable it. 3pp doesn't improve your FoV. That it a lie. It improves awareness of your immediate surroundings within a couple of feet at the cost of being able to peek over and around obstacles, but it doesn't improve FoV. Arguing "I need to be able to see if I'm in cover" it also a silly argument, as you can't see if you're in cover in real life either. There's a reason why when kids play hide and seek, and they hide behind the curtain, their feet stick out. As it turns out, children don't have a third-person perspective either. I know, right? Weird. You can use 'alt' to look at your body, which might help. Some people say that in 1pp you see out of your neck rather than your eyes, so that should be addressed. Besides being honest and saying that you like being able to peek over walls, the best argument in favour of 3pp is that you get to see your character in the environment. In a game where your character is so customisable, it seems a bit of a waste to only be able to see your character in the inventory screen or on the game menu. When I play 1pp, it's actually pretty rewarding to see my character when I log off. As such, when I play 3pp I'm pretty much always in 3pp, as running across endless fields is much better when you can see how badass your character is. But then I don't think that's a good argument. The issues that 3pp presents are not outweighed by "but my character looks pretty." -
Given that weapons and ammo are going to be very rare, I expect people are going to be forced into using bows and crossbows, and may actually choose the latter over a gun in some circumstances. That being the case it makes sense to curb arrows and bolts in some way so players don't have a ranged weapon and extremely common ammunition straight off the bat.
-
I am triggered. You have triggered me. Yeah ducking in vehicles would be nice. Would also like an Arma 3 style movement system where you can peep over certain obstacles without revealing too much of your body. Pretty much useless in 3pp butchyanno.

I'd like to see an overhaul for foraging in general. It's horrible not finding a single bastarding berry on a bush for 5 minutes, but equally it'd be silly to come away with an armful. Equally, finding feathers in a coop should be insanely easy, but that'd mean huge amounts of arrows or bolts (when they can be crafted) would be available with minimal effort. It's a tough thing to balance.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

I have to stick to 3pp because most 1pp servers are depopulated. Riddle me that. -

Yeah I'd like to see mail. Plate might be taking it a bit far. Mail worn with a great helm was pretty common in the 12th and 13th century, so mail actually makes more sense. Should be very rare, of course, and only provide protection against melee and low velocity projectiles (bows, crossbows, maybe .380 and 9mm from range). Mail is also pretty heavy. It's not crazy heavy, and on its own doesn't impede movement, but carrying mail armour and a backpack full of gear might weigh you down a bit. Chain link armour is a neat idea, but totally impractical. Honestly you'd probably be better off with cloth armour (like a gambeson). Could maybe combine a whole shit ton of rags to create cloth armour that is only mildly effective, isn't particularly light and also warms you up somewhat - creating either the danger of hyperthermia or the benefit of keeping you warmer in cold weather.

I thought of doing that, but my internet is shit. Don't fancy downloading 800mb for nothing. Will be interested to see if it works. In any case I suspect a fix will be released soon, since this seems to be related to today's update.

Friend and I are having this BattleEye thing. Game closes, get a little black window saying 'updating BattleEye or something similar'. Either fails or hangs or does whatever.

"Nail Bats" and other (realistically) crappy weapons
BeefBacon replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I can attest to the air drag thing. Tested it, even. Swung a regular baseball bat no problem. Hammered some nails into it and it was like lifting Thor's Hammer. When I was finally able to gather enough strength to swing it it was like dragging a chain through drying cement. At one point I let go of it mid-swing and it just hanged in the air. There was so much drag that it could just float. Obviously I freaked out and called a physicist. Before long the area had been cordoned off by the military and I was detained. They asked me all sorts of questions about how I was able to defy physics, and I explained that all I'd done was hammer some nails into a rounders bat. Now that was my first mistake, because I told the physicist it was a baseball bat. For ten years they held me. They built a small base around the nailed bat. It took months of work and more energy than I can even comprehend, but they were eventually able to move the bat into an underground bunker where they could hide it away until they understood it better. Every day someone would come in and question me. Every day I told them the same thing, but they never forgave me for calling it a rounders bat. At one point they subjected me to horrific tests, examining my biology. They put me through a mass spectrometer towards the end, but they found nothing out of the ordinary. I guess they concluded that I wasn't a threat and that I'd created a gravity-defying artifact by mistake. I've been trying to reintegrate into society. Everyone I know has moved on. I am alone. Don't put nails in baseball bats. It isn't worth it. -
This suggestion will stop most Server hopers
BeefBacon replied to sneakydudes's topic in Suggestions
Oh for fuck's sake. I love the title. Do you live for clickbait? "You won't believe these 10 ways people stop server hopping!" "The best way to stop KoSing - the devs are furious!" "Top 15 things zombies love, but survivors hate..." Interesting idea. At the very least I'd like to see it in experimental just to see how it goes. -
Yeah I saw that. What's BE?

I wasn't aware that server restarts affected loot at all. Certainly when I've rejoined after a restart there's still that wool coat and damaged low hiking boots sitting on the floor. I like the idea of doors spawning locked, though. It'd be nice if certain tools (sledgehammers, crowbars) were better at opening locked doors than other melee weapons. Lockpicks might become useful if you're keen on opening doors silently. Would also be nice if doors reset (randomly opened or closed) if no players have been in the vicinity for X amount of time.
-
Yeah I assumed it was either a bug or the devs testing something. In either case I thought it appropriate to give my opinion on the matter. I've always thought it would be better to spawn maybe up to 5 rounds at a time (up to 10 for stuff like 9mm, .22, etc) but have those spawns be pretty common. Realistically, people won't be able to clean out entire towns - at least not on their own - when zombies are a threat. As such, spawning a fair bit of ammo diffused across an entire town will make finding some ammo easy, but finding a lot (even enough) quite hard.
-
Just saw a thread concerning ammo in .59 and thought I'd put my opinions forward. I hate the way ammo is distributed in .59. All of the ammo I've found has been either full stacks or boxes. I can find a Winchester but not have any ammo for an hour, and then I'll find 30 rounds in some random house. I go from having no ammo to having all the ammo I'll ever need, and that's not a gradient I like. The amount of ammo spawning seems... okay. Maybe slightly too low, but we'll see. The problem is that it spawns in clusters. There might only be 100 assorted rounds in an entire town, but all of those 100 rounds will be in one or two houses. Sucks to be you if you happen to check every other house. I'd much prefer it if a very small amount of ammo spawned in a lot of houses, so those 100 rounds were dispersed across a whole town rather than a single house. That means that finding a couple of rounds for your weapon will be relatively easy, but getting enough to feel as though you can waste ammo will be very difficult unless you strip an entire town. So you'll have 5 rounds instead of either 0 or 30 which, to me, sounds a lot better.

Itd be nice to 'see 'some apo'strophe's. I am a petty shit. Yeah suggested before, I think. I'd be pretty keen on a regular scarf that you can either wear around your neck or round your head so you can pretend to be a grizzled, bearded Delta Force operative.

Remove "Number of players" column from server list, Reduce number of public servers
BeefBacon replied to Sperglord's topic in Suggestions
Yeah I can't wait to join an empty server when I'm looking for a full server. Good suggestion, 10/10. Disallowing private servers has some merit, though. I have no problem with there being the official, public hive and then private hives. Perhaps the public/private could instead be renamed to the name of the hive? So there'd be 'official' 'Gents of Novo Hive' 'the tick dickler hive' 'n00bh4x hive' etc, etc. Servers that are not in a hive could be called 'private'. This would allow us to quickly identify hives without servers having to put the hive into the server name. -
Spent 45 minutes trying to join an experimental server with a friend. Joined and headed for Zelenogorsk. Crashed. Spent another 10 minutes joining. Went to Zelenogorsk barracks. Met two friendly people, got some nice loot. Went into Zelenogorsk proper and ran into at least two people. They were not friendly. One of them opened fire with a Scorpion so I did the same. Neither of us died, but I was bleeding. Bandaged and had one of them try to punch me out, so I shot him with my Winchester at point blank. He didn't die. Buddy got shot at and was killed. I shot the guy with my Winchester. He didn't die. Other guy nicked my mates SKS, spam fired. I died. Respawn. Somehow managed to nick a pistol from my corpse from across the map - that'll need a bug report. Headed to Berezino to find my friend, looting along the way. Found a police station that was completely untouched, got an MP5, 15rnd mag, Scorpion and mag and an extra mag for my cheaty cheaty pistol. Late so my buddy logged. Looting on my way to Berezino I get some pretty solid gear, logged outside Berezino.

A little question .. why MP5 and UMP and not Bizon SMG ?
BeefBacon replied to kataro's topic in General Discussion
Took a gander at the Wikipedia page. Uses 9mm and .380 auto, both of which are in-game. I think it can also mount AK optics. Actually super in favour of this. -

Leg holster for handgun usable with any form of full length pants
BeefBacon replied to Chris Kyle's topic in Suggestions
And that's assuming you'll be able to find any rockets or enough ammunition to facilitate suppressive fire or zombie mowing. People seem to think that everyone is going to spawn with an M249 and an RPG or something. They're going to be rare as shit. Yeah I don't know about the clipping issues. Everything seems to clip in DayZ. Ever tried wearing a stab vest and a bomber jacket? Isn't pretty. I think the chest holster should also be a leg holster, like bandana face masks can also be worn as a hat. Right click - tie leg holster/ right click - tie chest holster. Don't know about tying, but there are plenty of belts and buckles, I'm sure it could be formed into a waist belt or something. -
Saw two cows and a pig in Petrovka, basically spawned inside each other (I named the cow inside the pig David). They ran when I got close. Saw two deer right next to each other near Zelenogorsk. From these events I get the impression that animals spawn in clusters rather than diffuse throughout the map - though that might only apply to pigs, cows and deer, Not seen chickens or foxes.

Second half was good. Think it would have been a better video if you'd interacted with the guy at the tents, though. Shooting some unarmed guy isn't really video-worthy. The hacker and the fight at the end, though? That was good.

Been playing some .59 on my lonesome, though I might play with my mate tomorrow if we're both about. I like .59 so far, here are some jumbled thoughts. - Water pumps are bugged, as we all know, but I'm actually having a lot of fun. Food is everywhere, but I have no canteen so all of my water has to come from tinned food. As a result, I find myself actually needing to look for viable food and water sources rather then eating two packs of dried milk and spamming a pump until I'm stuffed. That's cool. It almost makes me wonder if the devs broke it on purpose to see if people could survive without water pumps, but I doubt that. - Been using -newui and found it a little bit frustrating at first until I learned the quirks. I found items can only be dropped if you put them into the vicinity window, weapons seem to only be holstered when used from the hotbar, stuff like that. Its use of space is awful, but I know that'll change down the line. Well. I hope. - Trying to work out gun sounds. I heard a bunch of gunshots that sounded kind of close, so I waited to see if anybody would appear from a church where I heard the shots coming from. After a while I investigated and found you couldn't even enter the church, and concluded that those gunshots probably came from Devil's (?) Castle - likely somebody shooting zombies since a bunch were on that hill. The shots sounded much closer, though. When shots are very far way they're muffled, but I'm hoping that eventually it'll be more like a crack rather than the sound of a pillow hitting the floor. - I'd like to see more accelerated time, and changes to accelerated time. When watching the church, it went from, like, noon to dusk almost instantly, and then progressed into night. A smoother transition would be nice. More acceleration would be nice as well. I played for a couple of hours and it was night all the way through. Had to join a US server so I could get day. As such I'd be keen on days lasting maybe a couple of hours (midnight to midnight) so we get the full range of morning to night, rather than near-perpetual day or night. I like playing at night, but black and white vision gets boring before very long. - It might be a new UI thing, but items in hands seems to behave very strangely. I had the freshspawn road flare and couldn't get rid of it, so I had to throw it away with G. It then floated in the air. I had the option so I lit it and left it behind. Not long after I needed to put something in my hands and found that I couldn't. Suspecting some form of nonsense I pressed G again, and a lit flare flew from my body. Before that (on 3pp not 1pp) I had a cooking pot. Drinking from it stuck it to my hands. relogging fixed it, but I wish I'd tried throwing it with G. I saw somebody else had the same issue, so if anybody has this problem see if G does anything. - Somebody mentioned the removal of the gamma exploit... is that true? If so I'm some sort of wizard. I did find it'd reset occasionally, though, as though the settings hadn't stayed - so maybe that's it. - Had, I think, one CTD. Was time for bed anyway. Also the missing texture error boxes that everyone else has been getting, but I think it only pops up once - Not noticed much of an improvement in performance with -newui. 5 - 10 frames maybe? If any? It's hard to say. All n all it seems fairly stable. Bar a few notable exceptions (likely to do with the new UI and desync) I've not had any game breaking issues. Found a Red 9, which is cool. I'll have to hunt some zombies with it as I have a ton of 9mm. Not found any .22, though, so my sporter is suffering a bit. Oh, and found SKS ammo in I think either a house or a deer stand. Either way, good thing.
