Your interpretation is your opinion. You are adding text to the server rules that are not present.

When I say locked from the server, I am speaking of a temporary ban. I have the following measures available to me: 1) Lock the server - this violates the rules of server hosting 2) Shut down the server - this denies access to legitmate players, and allows hackers to troll my server by utilizing server-wide hacks 3) Issue bans - individuals caught hacking receive a permanent ban; during a server wide hack all non-victims receive a temp ban until individual hackers can be ascertained - those receive permanent bans, everyone else has their temp ban lifted I'll again quote rule 13: While you may disagree with my methods, that is merely your opinion on procedure. We are in complete compliance. If you think your opinion should be enforced, I suggest lobbying Rocket for a re-write of the rules.
-
Let me follow this by quoting the server hosting rules. You'll notice 13 allows me to freely kick or ban for "ongoing severe hacking that is affecting players in a server-disruptive way". Reference 2b, 3b, 4b above. For "suspected cheats or exploits of a non-server-disruptive nature", see 2a, 3a above.

You're quoting a suggestion from a player. I'll repeat the process once more: 1) Player reports hack/cheat in progress 2a) Individual hacker 2b) Server wide hack 3a) Hacker identified visually or via logs, singularly banned 3b) Everyone not subject to hack locked from server 4b) Everyone not identified as hacker via logs is unlocked

Feel free to point out our specific violation. Can't read the dev/mod title under your name. Could you change the color so its visible?
-
First, you incorrectly assume that the only accounts I know about are friends. Ask any server admin, and I guarantee they are familiar with their regular players - friends or not. Second, please explain to two of my friends that they didn't really get a temp lock while "mortal kombat" was going on last week. Cause, you know, I don't lock my friends.
-
Reading not your strength, eh? That's okay, I'm not a stone faced killah. Rage on, brah.
-
No players playing > some players playing while I go blind on server logs. I like your style, you should apply at Blizzard.

Your tears are delicious to me.
-
No? I fail to see the value in kicking those subject to hacking while looking for the hackers. Feel free to use whatever technique works for you on your server. Oh, wait... Luckily, your opinion is irrelevant.
-
Everyone banned has been either 1) caught by BattlEye while cheating or 2) been online during a near or whole server hack (i.e. most or all players sucked into "mortal kombat" or insta-killed across the map). Once I review the logs, I unlock anyone who appears to be accidentally caught in the crossfire. Anyone I miss can find me here or on arfcom to request an unlock.
-
When I receive word of hacks in progress, if the cheater is obvious they'll get a singular ban. If that's not possible, every unknown account will receive one until I can sort through the logs. Its simply the fastest way to restore the server to running. If you read any of that thread on arfcom, right after you linked post you will have read where I unlocked everyone who said they were accidentally locked still. You could have done the same. You could have asked here. You chose instead to report abuse where there is none.
-
We've been around longer than rule 2 has been in place. If you could take the time to find us on arfcom, could you take the time to find me here and let me know you were accidentally banned. Its not like the server name is in my signature. If you were just a hacking troll, however, that wouldn't really be your goal would it?

As soon as better anti-hacking / hacking detection / server admin tools are implemented, I'll improve my aim.

BERCon getting disconnected - suggestions?
dayzdeadmeat posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I've been using BERCon successfully since the server was turned up. Now, I'm getting disconnected anywhere from every couple of hours to every few minutes. Any suggestions? Hotfix Build 1.7.2.4 Rolling Update
dayzdeadmeat replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Just got the word that HFBServers are refusing to host this update. They want to wait for a stable update to prevent damage to their server (that I pay for). I recommend anyone using HFB find another host willing to support development of DayZ. -
Given the ease with which hackers are stealing/spoofing GUIDs (http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/40664-server-admins-stealing-guids-for-spoofing/), won't this lead to griefing? 1) hacker spoofs valid player's GUID 2) hacker logs in/out of servers until valid player receives database ban 3) ??? 4) profit! I've had to un-ban GUIDs on my server for players of our group - one who was very new (<1 week) and one who had played for months. <_<

Major HFBServers Changes Inbound!

IM'd you my server and ticket info. We seem to be having huge issues, which is very irregular for us. I think we may be the only remaining 25-slot server, so we're usually very popular - not so much since all the performance issues the last 72 hours or so. -
BERCon getting disconnected - suggestions?
dayzdeadmeat replied to dayzdeadmeat's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Others? Surely this is not an isolated incident. I'd like to figure out if its just a server side connection issue, or a complete incompatibility of BERCon with one of newer updates. -
Server admins stealing GUIDs for spoofing
dayzdeadmeat replied to dayzdeadmeat's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
How its done is immaterial. The only way they could show up on my server with GUIDs from my players is to pick them up through the console/server log on another server. -
Hackers insta-killing non-stop, how do we identify/report them?
dayzdeadmeat replied to t0pz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I have noticed the whining in the "Ban Appeals" forum falls on deaf ears. I ban freely, and have stopped worrying about the consequences. -
Same - I kick lobby squatters as well as those who jump in while the server is creating/briefing.

Everyone has paid for Arma2 OA. This is an indication of likely buyers for Arma3 and DayZ retail. The only reason to develop anything is to sell it eventually. A free game (i.e. base game + mod) will continue to attract new players, albeit at a slower pace, with hackers ruining the game. A free mod that requires someone to purchase the base game (i.e. DayZ + Arma) will eventually stop attracting new players, or will at a much reduced pace, with hackers ruining the game. If you think its not about the money, you're fooling yourself. Two words: adoption curve. The worst possible situation is for hours of development to be poored into getting this built and/or ported, only to find yourself on the downside of the curve. This is not my first development project.
