  1. Well... when i first started playing, you spawned with a pistol, the servers ran night cycles, the admins didnt know how to switch em off.. no one had nvgs o course (heli crashes were a mythical phenomenon)  So it was flares and chem lights... there was still shit loads o KoS mind, and people would use the flares as weapons, because the Z's would swarm to them, so if yah saw some one enter a house, all yah had to do was throw a flare in the door way, and wait for him to run outta ammo (no melee weapons)

I recall there being friendly players... but i still come across em now, there were zero vehicles for quite a while (they got taken out because o a desync bug with em, causing them to kill players etc , and didnt get added back in till much later) It also could literally take 30mins for your character to load... and normally did. When they added tents in, they were player killing machines!

i remember the early game differently than many... i played the shit outta it still, and loved every minute. At the moment im loving arma 3 breaking point, it will get stale too with time, it has nothing to do with the player base mind. Its just the way us humans work, familiarity breeds contempt. I had a go at the vanilla mod a few times, and i like what razor has done with it... it would be way better than it was, if it had packed servers. Its still fun mind.

  2. Its because your registry is corrupted... you may need to delete your registry for arma and OA the  re start both games individually to re write it... ive posted how to do this shit loads about a year or so ago.. but google is yah friend.. also it may be worth just trying to start both arma and OA indiviually and run all the way to menus, yah never know it may over write the registry.

  3. I'm not sure where you play but on the servers that I play on logging to clear zombies is considered combat logging. You get one warning, do it again and you're banned.

As it should be on all servers, doing it rarely is still combat logging, yah fight it out till yah dead, or they are, only way to play. I recall in one o my first games o dayz, getting all ammo-ed up to the hilt, and getting caught in that red house by the cherno store with a mate, i had a 1911, he had a lee enfield( before we clicked it was a Z dinner bell)... he died quick, i got up past 50 odd kills before i was swamped (.45 used to kill a z one shot to body before BI pistol nerf) Good times :D

  4. I think there is this section o the community, who dont really get the survival in dayz... yah supposed to survive the other players as well as the Z's... saying im hard core dayz, but i want pvp stopped, is totally a  contradictory statement. If yah cant handle a few clowns on the hill at electro, yah need to adjust yah play style, and tactics, because yah survival instincts suck... however they do kinda wreak the experience... but only because all yah have to do to gear up, is run up the valley behind the coast, grab a .303 or whiny at a barn, and shoot a few o em in the back, and yah fully geared.

Making fire arms rare, will make players with fire arms gods, no one will waste bullets on Z's, and it will strongly favor players who have survived long enough to gear... new spawns beware. Im sure It will change other aspects o the game, there will be more sucker kills o course ("im friendly im friendly", join yah group, then thwack, axe to back o head first time you start an animation.... like in the good ole days o dayz)  But PvP is a part o dayz. There is always safety in numbers in this game, and a gang with axes is still gonna slaughter an individual with an axe. And eat his beans.

P.S. im not ripping on peoples choices o play styles, but i do rip on people who want game mechanics to force everyone else to play their play style... but rarity o ammo and fire arms wont do that. So im all for it.

  5. your error is just saying either yah dayz_anim is corrupted or outdated... namalsk should be running of your vanilla dayz files... well it used to, i havnt been playing for a while. So have you updated vanilla dayz to the latest version? If you have, and its still not working, id delete that pbo in your @dayz folder in your arma OA folder, and try a clean install

Ill edit in here...this is assuming you are launching the correct mod? ie changing the launch parameters if you are doing it manually, or changing the mod you are launching if you are using a launcher?

Also namalsk must run its own anim pbo when i think o it as well, it will depend how you installed it what the folder is called in your OA folder, but something like @NA or @namalsk or such

  6. they should do the mechanism like in the move the world war z - where zombies lose interest in weakened humans.  So a group of zombies gang bang you but they stop after you become "unhealthy" and leave you alone to go crawl away and try to heal.

The Z's in WWZ  only had no interest in people with terminal illness... ie they were dying, and their genetics could only harm the pathogen

  7. Hello everyone. :3 Decided to start a new topic just to chat, considering I haven't in a while.

I'd like to just ask people's thoughts on the Standalone? I saw Dean's recent video, and unfortunately, didn't like it :(

It looks like it will be suuuper graphic enhanced, and take a good computer to run it. Plus, running Zeds.... >_>

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE DayZ, but this whole running Zeds thing, WHY... I don't get it. Kinda ruins everything I know

about zombies, I mean the first thing you think of zombies is slow and flesh eating. :P And just by recent footage, I can't say I'm looking forward to the Standalone. :(

What are you guy's thoughts? :)

Just with the running Z thing... i dont think it can be any other way. Honestly i can think of little less threatening than a shambling walking Zombie, most o the movies that feature em are comedies (well theyre funny)  I actually downloaded one o the arma 3 dayz type games yesterday, and it has shambling staggering Z's, and they look kinda cool... but there is absolutely no threat from them, yah dont need to be stealthy, or kill em or anything. It kinda killed it for me(well its just released so maybe they will make em more threatening somehow.

Im a fan of the fast Z's from world war Z, they were awesome! and the Zombie vampire type things of I am Legend. And i love the sprinting Z's in dayz... i dont think it would work any other way

P.S. im not really a huge fan o the walking dead. all they have to do is walk quickly and theyre safe... i mean whats the danger!

  8. I never even used waypoints. It's curious, ARMA is such a "realistic" game with very unforgiving mechanics, but it also has these vague crutches and flaws that are in no way a reflection of reality. You don't even have to look at your map to see the waypoint!

With nights, I think they need work from the mod. I get that they want to have nights be very dark and unforgiving, I do too. But the nights in DayZ are rarely playable. Night just doesn't look like that, even in areas where there is little manmade light. Your eyes adjust to the darkness and you can see where you're going. Sure, you can't see for miles, nor can you make out detail with black/grey contrast, but it's not a black hole. Even with full moon, night is problematic in DayZ.

Arma 3 has much better night lighting, that would be fine... id disagree about in RL however, in bush/jungle even with a moon, night can be total darkness, same with heavy cloud... i dont live in a city, and i start work at 4-5am so experience it every day. But yea, lighting like in arma3 would be better for game play.

  9.  With seeing that compass... im hoping they dont have way points enabled, and its down to traditional navigation... it took me several months o playing before i clicked onto way points originally in the mod... It was kinda cool just marching on bearings. O course i didnt know the map at all then... now i know every tree and rock pretty much(absolutely no need for compass or map)... but still, it would make night nav interesting again.

It will be nice having nights back again also. Not with every person with a set o nvgs, but like originally, flares and chemlights. Used to be some o the most tense play in cities.

  10. Is the mod as we know it really what Rocket intended? It may have become very popular but it was never complete. I'm not talking about zed behaviour or bugs, I mean content.

Rocket wanted a survival sim, but we've all been playing an open world deathmatch where there's nothing much else to do.

The standalone will be VERY different, and all the people who are hoping for the SA to be a polished version of the mod may well not like what they get.

People will still be able to pvp, but you are actually going to have to survive this time, and that will require you to do other stuff rather than focusing on finding guns.

This is of course dependent on whether Rockets original "vision" is still intact after all the hype and pressure for it to succeed.

I think this from the wired article on rocket was probably what rocket was envisioning http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/146490-wired-how-a-near-death-experience-inspired-a-blockbuster-zombie-game/

"Eventually he hit on the idea to replace Arma‘s terrorists with zombies, but the undead would actually be the least of a player’s concerns. Hall was designing the game as a social experiment: Every time a player logged in, they’d be pitted against other players also hunting for supplies. Players would compete for limited food, water, and weaponry, and their anxiety would make them more deadly than the brain-eaters. The gameplay re-created his feeling of isolation in the jungle, surrounded by dozens of starving strangers, any of whom might be plotting to steal his meager supplies just as he was plotting to steal theirs. Hall wanted the possibility of dying and losing everything to drive players to kill other survivors in order to steal their rations. He would call the game Day Z, a twist on D-Day."

I think survival as Dean has experienced it, is different than say what you may view on a crappy realty TV show(where yah dump a bunch o narcissists together, still provide em with enough rice and fresh water they dont all kill em selves, and watch the fire works.

Where it went wrong in the mod was with duping, making what was supposed to be rare items common. Time will tell, but some things will remain the same, a group is always going to have an advantage over an individual, there is safety in numbers. Binding is pointless, unless with some o the more common weapons (ie yah fists) its not possible to kill some one, and if these are more stealthy  than fatal weapons there exists  a point to bind people...

Either way, we will find out soon enough.

  11. It is looking pretty good for alpha!  Melee isn't amazing but it is good enough for now.  I would like to see how the single handed melee weapons work.

Hopefully the loot is properly scarce by release.  If it isn't, then no big deal, but it would be nice.

The new compass is good but it should be a little bigger so you can read the bearings

Im not so sure you and dean share the same vision for SA... just saying, Before it became official it was being made, he commented a bit on his vision for it here in the forums... scarcity= boring. now having some things rare, is a given. But making it boring, would be economic suicide. I dont think they are idiots ;)

  12. If he does, he will be highly respected amongst the hardcore community. If not, well then I'm out to be honest....

What exactly is the hardcore community? ive noticed in the last 6-9 months or so, the place has been over run with care bears. Most to scared to play on populated servers, which is completely missing the point o dayz. And also seem to be pushing for mechanics to force play styles... Again, totally missing the point.   This seems to be viewed as the hard core?

I have faith in Deans vision, it will be a brutal world. And im going to do my bit to make it just a lil more brutal.

  13. I doubt we will see lee enfields, its an english weapon from ww2, if they are aiming for autenticityil doubt we will see it, they only exist in the mod because of BAF wich is based in english troops.

The ole .303 was the staple weapon of the british, and commonwealth for around 100 years... they are every where!!!! i can still buy ww2 ammo for them here in new zealand... which i do, because i can get boxes o tracers for 20c a shot... i have a sportised version (an old army one, yah hack all the extra pieces o wood n crap off )  i sold my other one, for a pack o smokes and a box o beers... i would hardly say they are rare... maybe in the usa, but theyre pretty common pretty much any where the british/commonwealth have served in the last 100 years. (i used to have one from boer war era, it was about five and a half feet long... it was so cool!)

  14. I fear this.  It'll probably be all nice and friendly until a few streamers start showing 1337 killz feedz.  Then a bunch of people wo watch that streamer will try to copycat the 1337 killz feedzzz.

At that point I  and keep on playing the survival game in hopes that the next guy I run into actually wants to interact before KoSing me with a Makarov or some other shit.

Hopefully bullets are rare, and characters are valuable enough that random KoS isn't profitable or as fun.

I dont know dude, before KoS became the norm... a good percentage would team up, till you found something rare, like a box o matches, then BANG, in the back o the head.  This really used to piss me off, and making bullets rare, is just going to make it a "sucker kill" fest. Which is defiantly more infuriating than KoS. So i sure as hell wont be teaming with randoms, only peeps i know. And you should expect an axe to the face frequently, if you let randoms get close enough to you to do it. This is dayz, what it always was (well i was only playin since may 2012, so since then... ive never seen this one i hear people reminiscing about when people were all friendly, they were just more cunning)

  15. It wont stop PvP... it may reduce KoS, and make it like the "good ole days" of dayz... where people buddy up, so they can shoot you in the back o the head when you are covering a door, or looting or such... but with melee weapons yah wont need to waste a single bullet...o  course this is why KoS spiralled out o control. And it became a fools errand to buddy up with some one you didnt know. Its what made yer paranoid and made the game great.

scarcity o resources through out human history... has never led to a reduction in competetion for said resources.. and it wont in a game either.

  16. Red meat raw is fine, its chicken or pork yah gotta worry about.. in saying that, most o the time yah sweet with chicken n ducks, pork is the one that can kill yah. i dont think the game needs it personally. But it should only apply to chicken and piggies.

  17. Arma3 is a great game, as is arma 2, im sure the SA will be awesome... ill continue to play wasteland/domination etc on arma3, and mess around with the editor on it, ill play dayz on SA the second its released. Sure there is stuff that they are adding to dayz that raises one o my eye brows at times, but a mod wont compete with it, as has been explained in this thread a plenty. I too am frustrated they havnt released it yet... but that wont stop me playing the shit out of it the moment i get my hands on it. But arma 3 is a great game, and if thats yer proffered poison, all the power to yah, i prefer to mix my poisons ;)

  18. I don't understand how people can argue that the latest patch makes the game too hard or impossible. Aren't you embarrassed that other people are still able to thrive and flourish while you can't go five minutes without a "broken" zed giving you an infection or knocking you over?

Yes, some of the people on here claiming that the new patch is a piece of cake are just over-exaggerating their skills, but they deserve to if you other players that are struggling won't stop crying.

And the argument that a game needs to appeal to every person that might pick it up for it to be successful is nonsense.

The devs cannot cater to every players needs and desires. Make your constructive suggestions and then get back in there and beat this game instead of waiting for the developers to do it for you

they dont need to cater to every player... but the fact that the only populated servers are modified, should be a clue that it needs looking at. There is a balota buddies public server where i am that is full most o the time, all they have done is add a few buildings, thus increasing spawn chances. That is why people arnt playing vanilla dayz. And Z's are still piss easy, that is no exaggeration. Yah run into the middle o town, lead em into a building, run out the back, and continue looting to yah hearts content. It needs players in the server, so yah dont want to be attracting their attention to make it difficult. This is what makes dayz difficult, always has, not the Z's. In the early versions, the Z's would never lose you, you could aggro a crawler at balota, run to nwaf, go afk for 20mins, and the crawler would be gnawing on yer when yah got back. still not what made it hard, it was the other 50 players, that forced yah to be stealthy.

Its simply the spawn situation, that needs looking at, the devs should be looking at trends o players on the public hive, if they see a step change in players with a patch, they should think hard about the why(pointless listening to brown nosing, statistics are used for research, because it works). BI and dean should be watching this too. But i think the SA will not miss the mark, just with the fact they will have greatly increased the spawn spots, rather than reducing them. Hell hot spots are good, if there is good military loot, there will be gangs fighting for control of it... also good. This is what makes this game great. Not out thinking retarded ai. They greatly complicate the matter o player interaction however ;)

Ill edit in here, after watching the first five minutes o razors interview, he seems to have this well in hand for future updates.

  19. I'm not suggesting you hack away at infected, or players attempting to slice and dice with the razor like you're a yakuza gang member in the movies or something. I'm suggesting it gives you an instant kill option (only on players)... Surely neck meat isn't impenetrable to thin razors...

You could make short work o a person with a straight razor, yea it would be great for throat slitting, hell a scalpel blade works fine for that for that matter. ( disclaimer, assuming a goats throat is similar to a persons throat, ive never cut a persons throat ;) ) They would be a lethal weapon against soft tissue. A tendon slashing, vein slitting, artery cutting lil beast, so arms, legs, throats. But too hard to make that shit work in game i would think, you would need a pretty complex close combat system.

  20. I took a bit o a break myself, and hve been back playing it only a short while, personaly, its still easier than some o the early patches o the mod(think scarcity o antibiotics, but with bandages ;-), that was a funny patch, luckily new spawns spawned with bandages, so it was open season  All the servers are empty, yah cant find one with more than like 5 people, yah dont need ammo, the Z's are easier than the early stuff still. But there is no threat o players, cause they seem to have all quite :( But i agree, it is kinda boring/monotonous on the spawn side, there is a heap o crap that cant be used, pointless. Lets be honest people, there are more people playing origins than this, its not a good thing :( And pretending its better cause no one plays it, so you dont get killed by other players is silly.

  21. I was never big on chest rigs myself... they hold yah in the air when all yah want to do is wriggle into the ground. As far as "carriers" or webbing goes just the belt and harness stuff is best for grunt work, chest rigs are for drivers, and SF who have no intention of getting in a drawn out ground wrigglin fire fight. Ballistic vests could be a cool addition, obviously the weight does need to be considered, the one we used were around the 20kg, which is nothing on its own, but then yah rifle and webbing is another 25-30kg... and yah pack is another 30-40kgs. Its not practicle to carry a pack with body armor. One or the other.

Now i know the characters arnt elite military, but if they did not posses some extrodinary fitness and mental hardness, they would be zombies, its not that hard to carry 50-60kgs all day(youre not running anywhere mind), when its packed properly. A pack weighs more than a ballistic vest with ceramic plates, there should be no reason yah cant carry one or the other. The biggest issue i had with body armour, is it dosnt breath, yah get F$%kin hot, and go through a shit load o water. As is now, the characters dont carry bugger all, yah cant fit anything closely ressembling what you can carry irl in your inventory and pack (excluding carzy stuff like engine block wheels etc)

  22. The thing is, this takes place in Chenarus, not USA. There should be an abundance of Russian weapons. M4's, M16's, etc, etc should be extremely rare, and only spawn in certain places (i.e. heli crashes, etc). Also, I'm no expert, but I don't think there would be an abundance of FLIR scoped and other thermal devices in Russia.

yea, thats why i said the ksvk, its a russian .50. I dont really care if they never bring thermals back into the game, but yes the russians have em. Theyre not as back ward as many people seem to believe... I dont care if they dont bring em back in, but they do exist. I like the idea o hmg's, but yea, russin styles makes more sense than m2, so a kord. but a two man transportable weapon, that need to be set up on a stationary tripod before being used. they would wreak a chopper pilots day, or be good for defensive positions, but crap for offensive stuff. more common irl tah n anti material rifles too.

Ive hauled gpmgs on patrols, they weigh about the same as a .50 (13kg unloaded for a fn mag, 5kg every about 100rnds, and not counting spare barrels etc, going off memory from 10years ago),it was totally impractical to shoot it any other way than in a supported stance, or prone with the bipod. Youre not hitting squat standing or kneeling unsupported.. i cant see a .50 being any different. being able to shoot something standing, and hitting something standing past about 10m are different things, and that is what needs addressing with heavier weapons.
