  1. They think the translation of the German is really WAY off :)

    Fire doesn't warm you up.

The Gorka jacket and raincoats will keep you dry so you don't cool off too much to begin with. You also cool down when in forests. Once in open fields with some sun you start to warm up and may even begin sweating / overheating (have not experienced this yet on stable but did in exp.) So you should keep lighter clothing in your backpack. Good thing is you can store items in a jacket, shirt, coat so it doesn't take up more room than the items themselves. No reason not to carry some extra clothing. Apparently some hats will also keep you warm and some won't. I think wellies help you keep dry too (duh).

    Fire doesn't warm you up.

Same here, was almost completely geared too but experiences with 049 on experimental gave me a flase sense of "mwah, I'll be allright". The environment now on stable is much less forgiving and you really need gear for the weather. (good job devs!)

    Fire doesn't warm you up.

It will warm you up when outdoors, within rooms it won't. Should be fixed and I'm sure they will.

    Whistle in Dayz SA

Your idea is neither good nor bad, for all the reasons you just mentioned. In my experience so far with this game: it will be misused by those luring friendly players into ambushes. It will only take a short while before nobody trusts those whistles any more. You'd be better off making an appeal to some of the medic clans to help you out. (http://tmwdayz.com/index.php) Eventually communication between you and a friend (-s) should be done with the in game walkie talkies or (some would say no) with external communication like skype or TS.
  6. If you shoot on sight why do you do it? -Fear of being shot myself first, hardly ever for loot. can you explain to me why you are not bad at the game if you shoot on sight? -Because the game is about survival and being the one to shoot first is sometimes the best way to survive. What is your opinion on people who shoot on sight? -It all depends on the situation. Many times I was shot while not having my weapon in hand, saluting and saying "friendly, can I help you?". Those KOS'ers I hate and think are cowards. If I do have my weapon in hand and we surprise each other and I get shot I understand and won't blame the other. Do you think they are just pure douche bags that ruin your DayZ experience? -No, as was said before it creates an atmosphere of tension but I would like to see more players make an effort to get out of situations without shots being fired, loot in an area being shared or even bartered. Should they be ashamed of themselves? -The ones who never try to interact but only play the game to pvp...yes, they don't understand anything about what this game can be.
  7. An eulogy to my characters on the stable branch which met their early demise during "the great wipe" in September 2014. Most of my 550 hours in Dayz have been played on experimental but both characters below have had about 150 hours invested in them. They endured broken arms and legs and ruined gear by both bullets and zombies and the occasional miss step from a cliff. They have seen hunger and thirst, sometimes lost their way or got stuck in buildings. They felt emotions like excitement, fear, adrenalin, love, hate, remorse and indifference. Many trousers and jackets got ripped to pieces and had to be replaced. They met some friendlies and helped some freshies. They were hunted but some also helped them. But they also killed a few on sight and won a firefight or two. The 3rd person character was created quite soon after I came into the game and had lost some characters due to learning the game. He was the one I explored the map with and tried out features of the game --> http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/188817-a- touristic-day-in-chernarus/?hl=%2Btouristic+%2Bday and http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/202819-polaris- finding-north-at-night/ The 1st person character was my first and only so far on stable and was created on April 3rd 2014 because player pacific_coast wanted a new start in the game. I thought it would be nice to help him and gain his gear in the process to make a start on 1st person. I always kept his M4 and accessories and some of his gear but of course used and lost some of it during the months. With this character I took some more risks but always tried to survive, which I did up until "the great wipe". http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/184031-confession-and- death-of-pacific-coast/ Both characters will never be forgotten and are thanked for their service :)
  8. So are you going to say something about the character(-s) you lost in the wipe or did you post this in the wrong topic?

    [Maintenance] All Servers Are Down?!

Actually, it should be a forum wide announcement below the top forum banner, flashing in multiple colours :)
  10. 1: yes 2: depends on what I find, also magazine wise, I prefer the .357 or FNX 3: indoors for defence or hunting (sometimes zombie killing when I feel there are no other players around) I use the full or semi rifle purely for defence on medium ranges if I have to, otherwise I will avoid and run.

So M1 Garand has been confirmend...

In that first video that guy is only talking about a battle situation with many guns going off at the same time and tanks firing their main gun, obviously an enemy soldier would not hear the ping in such a situation. But there are other scenarios possible where there are only 1 or 2 rifles being fired and the enemy is within 10-20 yards, I'd think it would be possible to hear the ping. Any how, in my opinion the Garand has no place in DAYZ.
  12. Yeah let's have a generation of players on here who don't want to do anything for themselves and have these forums even more cluttered with pointless topics that could have easily been avoided if people simply looked around for a few minuets before asking the same question for the zillionth time. When I was new to the game and experienced mainteance day for the first time I found the answer to what was happening in about 2 minutes...
  13. See, the new generation no longer knows how to help themselves... http://lmgtfy.com/?q=what+does+ffs+mean and try searching on this forum on "server maintenance", good exercise for the future.
  14. Pls bear in mind that some new players actually open their eyes and first look around a forum, "don't know where the search function is", ffs. But I guess it's the new trend, just ask and make no effort to research a little yourself.
  15. oops *pour soda cans into canteen / bottle" If you have an empty canteen and/or bottle and no water in the vicinity it should be possible to pour soda cans into these containers. It's realistic and could save some space in inventory. 4 cans into canteen, 3 into bottle. Maybe it should be mandatory to empty the canteen / bottle before being able to fill it with water again.

    Booby Trap your Gear?

It could be interesting to be able to booby trap a persistent storage in some way. On the other hand there should be a way to check if a tent is booby trapped and tools should be available to neutralize them, maybe at the expense of the procedure taking a lot of time and not being able to cancel your action which would make the "thief" vulnerable to counter attacks / zombies. Maybe even needing a partner to do this in a safe way.

    CARS SUGGESTION (REALISTIC AND POSSIBLE)

One of the first cars could be a Trabant, a simple 2 stroke engine and such simple technology the average farmer could repair and maintain it. They were common in East Germany and countries like Hungary where I once drove one.
  18. sigh, see, nobody reads threads...this has already been discussed. Please offer arguments and not just a repeat what has already been said or had counter arguments. Thanks. I do agree with you that the the game should continue to allow us to make mistakes. Just like you don't get a warning when you eat blue berries or start to drink disinfectant. But it should still state in the "inspect" screen what some risks could be and it's effective counter measures.
  19. In real life water can be collected by wrapping rags around your legs and walk through grass land on a dewy morning and wring the water out of the rags. So yeah, could be an option. In all honesty I think it would be too marginal for a game feature. I'd rather see (since it rains a lot it seems in Chernarus) to gather rainwater at a rate of more than 1% at a time.
  20. -I'm talking about prolonged periods of time being away from loot / water sources (not talking about your activities in the game) -I find water bottles all the time as a fresh spawn, but they are often empty but I usually take them with me to fill 'em up as soon as possible or, if I don't have space and find something more interesting, drop 'em again. -I'm not sure if atm it makes a difference in the game if you hydrate using soda or water but I agree that soda's should hydrate you less. I do notice many times a soda will up your energy level (sugar?) and I don't think water does the same but am not sure.
  21. Now we are getting somewhere. Scenario I am picturing is you make a mad, risky dash to get the loot you need and then retreat into the woods (where your tent may be) until you run out of water, food, matches and ammo (for hunting) or all of them. If I have 2 canteens and 3 water bottles I take up 10 slots but have 17 sodas on me. Of course you could stack up on canteens and bottles, drop all other supplies you have on you in your tent except a weapon and some ammo and periodically make a run to a water source to fill all vessels you have thus minimizing risk. I am talking about options here and trying to think about survival strategies once persistence is fully implemented and dependable.
  22. Explain why it is a stupid idea? Do you use hard cases and ammo boxes?
  23. Well excuse me but I sometimes get very tired of people on this and other forums not reading posts or ignoring arguments which in a way is just as rude as ad hominem posts. I clearly said a purpose for this suggestion could be to NOT have to go to water sources and/or loot for soda's. I saw you called it a viable idea but in the next instance you clearly show not to have read my arguments saying 3 cans can keep you hydrated while looking for the next water source. See the north part of Chernarus, virtually all water sources are in high traffic areas and are thus risky places. BTW: thesaurus wise, let me see you write something in Dutch and I will accept wisecracks like that.
  24. Sometimes I wonder, are people even reading threads before they react? Dear doctajones, would you agree there could be more play styles than just the one you choose? Maybe a play style where one would be inclined to stay away from others for a prolonged time thus avoiding general loot spawns, bodies of water and wells?
