Good thing the Dayz Gods gave us arms of about 3 meters long, most doors you can open from quite a distance. I usually only get pushed aside by the larger gates, but you can anticipate that as well.
-
That would not be very realistic and remove the need to approach or avoid people. In many ways you can already tell what kind op player you are dealing with. Clothing, weaponry, behavior, gun in hands or on the shoulder, alone or in a group and so on. I prefer the uncertainty about other people, just like in real life.

Heli crash, sometimes military buildings and I have found them in the red brick buildings with the small table next to a stairs leading to a closed door. Also 2 rooms on ground level with clothing, a fridge on it's side, food and sometimes pots.

Of course, not that an announcement changes anything about the fact that you will lose everything :) But a heads up is always nice so it doesn't come as a surprise.

Nicely done! Excellent editing. This is exactly why one of my priorities as a fresh spawn is finding a weapon :)
-
We should definitely be able to clear Server History or at the very least be able to sort the list according to last server visited. Where is this history stored? On the the hive servers or local? Maybe if local the file can be edited?

West and North perimeters of the map are probably the most safe but also hardest to reach when you are a fresh spawn. Once persistence is truely established I will create a big loot cache there and create a more simple, basic cache near the center / coast.

It's not really the point of getting the best weapon available but about learning about the game, testing stuff and so on. The reason I ditched the bow again is because I felt I didn't stand a chance in PVP. Once there is more to do in the game in the outback I will be certain to use a bow again and use it mostly on animals and I will be happy if I hardly ever go to a town again. As it is now you have to be around populated areas for "entertainment" and the bow just won't do. Well, not in my hands anyway.

I understand how this comes across but I am not a bandit, and it's not a trap. Personally I would have taken the risk if I was a new spawn. There is also a good chance you spawn near mcta. Obviously by now someone could have placed a mine or bear trap (do they work in .57?). But it's a low pop server, all the time I was there I was usually alone or with one other player. Still no restart so the stuff should still be there, if it was not taken by one of those other players. Edit: well nevermind, I took it all back again because the improvised bow is less than ideal, aiming seems way off, maybe if I would have practiced more I would have gotten used to it. Will wait untill the recurve bow is in the game. I hope we can use crafted arrows with it and not just the reh\gular ones you sometimes find. I thought I could be doing someone a favour with the AKM but I guess there is no more trust in this game after so many KOS'sers and bandits. Lesson learned :)

Some doors will also have been forced open / damaged by looters. So the game should have locked doors, open doors and damaged doors that can not be locked or maybe not even closed.

Freelook settings?

Most frustrating way I died recently was because of my own error. In other games I play to climb a ladder you simple walk towards them and an animation takes over. I got confused when I was in a guard tower and simply walked off. Fully geared character...

Recently my onboard audio failed and I had to use an older PCI soundcard (Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum), which works fine and actually sounds better even if it's from circa 2003...) Anyway, the 32 bit driver has a .dll that is getting blocked by Battleeye when I start DayZ. It has no consequences, game starts and runs fine and I understand that Windows 7 doesn't need this .dll so I removed it and sound is still fine. I am just curious why BattleEye would have a problem with this .dll, anyway know? ctagent.dll
-
Thx for the reply but it is not related to wow64.dll but ctagent.dll in de sysWOW64 folder. I already solved it by simply deleting the dll which is not needed by my system. My main reason for asking is ciriosity about why BE would block this .dll, apparently it sees harm in it?

Within the game logic you have a point that 2 bandage rolls should not take up as much space as a canteen, for example. In real life volume is simply volume. For soft items you could use a compression bag to reduce the volume (essentially by pushing the air out) like they use for sleeping bags.
-
Yes that is correct and seems to me to be the right choice from a realism point of view. How can the volume of items be decreased by putting them in a container that by logic law must have at least the same volume? The protector case and ammo box are now there for their real purpose: protecting the items inside against impact and possibly bullets.

Crafting shooting sticks (make shift bi- or tripod) from already existing sticks and rope or ducttape or even a nail or bolt would be useful too, would give a stable platform almost everywhere and one more use for carrying sticks on you.
-
Sounds like you need an exorcism... I can't really help you because I never experienced this. Why you think you are hacked, could it simply be a bug? Can you maybe commit suicide?

how to get dayz to run better without turning graphics down loads?
nl replied to JarheadLeeds's topic in General Discussion
BTW this is excellent advice. Here I was tuning down the graphics for more fps when in the end it turns out I can have a better looking game without really losing fps (as long as I stay near normal settings) -
@Aernz I am guessing it has to do with render distance. Am I right it is only from a distance and not when you are close to the objects? Try to find a spot where you see the "inclined roofs and shiny walls" and experiment with your settings and see if it changes.
-
I agree that all these atmospheric things are missing at the moment but could enhance the immersion. There are some towns here and there that do look overgrown. I'm guessing none of these things are in (yet?) to keep server stress down, we all know fps is a problem as it is at the moment. The magic optimizing may create more room for those kinds of things. It would also be nice if flocks of birds get disturbed by human activity. Giving the position of someone away...or yours. Not sure about many guts and stuff lying around (would het eaten by the dog packs?), it all depends I guess on how long ago it was all of this took place. There should otherwise also be bodies laying around that you should be able to loot, an item to prevent infection could be the already present mouth mask and maybe some surgical gloves.

Will try next time I experience fps drop and report back.
-
Didn't work for me. I still experience massive fps drops every once in a while.

Did anyone experience sometimes the quick access bar stops reacting? I have had it a few times I could not draw out a weapon, or put it back to my shoulder. In fact it does put the weapon away but it's not animated and the inventory is not updated. This already caused me 2 times to lose a weapon because I threw it on the ground but the game still showed it on me. Today I lost an 100% pristine AKM with drum mag and scope... :(
