I was a chief engineer on a commercial freighter. Sometime in early spring there was a big storm and I got swept from board trying to seal the cargo holds, I washed up on the shore with almost all my clothes washed from my body but fortunately without injuries. But damn was I hungry and thirsty! I later found the wreck at a place I later learned is called Rify. There didn't seem to be any survivors from my crew. The country is called Chernarus, I learned all this by piecing together information on partial maps and road signs. The country seems to be deserted by it's residents. There are zombies...and they just want to rip your heart from your body. I never thought they could actually exist but in folklore tales to scare children, Boy, was I wrong. There must have been an effort to contain the zombies but it clearly failed. There is evidence of military activity, road blocks and refugee aid camps but they all left...or died... Occasionally I see another "normal" human being but they seem as scared off me as I am of them. I am not sure if they are survivors from my ship or Chernarussians. I try to avoid them just like the zombies, I am not sure if they may carry some virus and many are armed and as desperate for supplies as me. I hope one day I can meet a few friendly survivors so we can work together and maybe find a way out of this God forsaken place. Since I washed ashore I spend all my time trying to survive the environment and avoid the zombies while I wait for help. The woods and plains to the West and North are to dense to traverse, I would never make it out on foot. I find vehicles but most are broken down. Even if I am able to restore a vehicle the chances of making it out of this country are slim, fuel is very scarce. So at night, sitting in front of my tent at my campfire, far away from any zombie, I read a book I may have found somewhere. It may sound strange, but I have a cuddly bear in my tent, it comforts me and gives me sense of normality in this crazy land. I can only hope one day help comes or that I find a way out of this hell.

I think OP literally means the wells (the circular stone things covered with wood), not the pumps. I guess we should be able to drink from the wells, with at least a rope and some sort of vessel attached to it, like a bottle, canteen or bucket (last not (yet?) in the game.

So you are testing on a system that is considerably below my specs? (see signature for my specs) In cities I have 17-25 FPS, in forests 35-45, open fields 45-60, when staring at the ground 85 fps ;)

Well I installed, and when optimizing before starting the game it killed about 23 processes but I literally had 0 increase in FPS. I tested it in the same spot after uninstall. Not sure why it didn´t make a difference.

Are you sure you got the infection because of bites? I never gor sick before getting hit by zombies. I did however get sick from drinking untreated natural water, the water purification pill is now in function. Also made me die of dehydration, no matter how much water I drank.

Just logged in and my 3rd person character on stable is fine, he even has the stuff I found when I was playing during the DDOS attack. Also 1st person character on stable is fine.

In my opinion it's not up to us to decide whether or not an idea is feasible. As we play the alpha game we find and report bugs and criticize implemenattions and/or offer ideas. These ideas may not be technically possible but it can give a sense of direction for the developers about what players want from the game. They can than discard the idea, embrace it or even decide to go an extra mile to make it possible.

I think it's a good idea. A method to black out a house could certainly help to conceal light / fire in the house and not shout to the outside you are there drying up, sheltering, cooking food and so on. Of course completely blocking the light would only be possible with boards or thick black plastic (attach with ducttape). Not removing it after you leave (and with persistence) could give a message to another player somebody may be using it again as shelter and ambush / boobytrap the house.

Well I think the general thought here is that the growth of a beard is an indicator of how long a character is alive, like a badge of honor.

You can find this stuff on stable branch server NL 2-14 at MCTA in a shed to the south west, see map. I decided to ditch the AKM and use a bow from now on. I swear to you it's not a trap (well not by me anyway, I would never be this obvious about it). Not sure when the server will restart so hurry.

I assume once the problems are over they will roll back to the old database before the problems started, so gearing up a new character could be wasted time.

I assume the iconic Trabant has already been suggested by someone, somewhere? It has such a weak engine that on a steep incline with 4 people 2 may have to go out to push it up the hill or stop in the middle to give the engine a chance to cool down (true story, happened to me) Now that would be funny to see with fully geared players :)

I had a windows 7 installation running for over 5 years and when I got my hands on a SSD I decided to do a complete clean install. I didn't feel any difference between running DAYZ on a clean system compared to a "dirty one". When I still used XP I used to do a clean install every year because it was slowing down (never felt that need with 7) but what I would do is do a complete clean install, drivers, standard programs and so on and make an image of that drive. Saved me a lot of time because I would only have to run new updates since the image and maybe make some changes I did in the last year. After that I'd sometimes make again a new image. You are speaking about optimizing your windows 7 system for DAYZ, care to share some of the tweaks you did?

Yep we need beards growing according to the hours alive. We not only need different beard styles but also the option to put in ribbons, beads, bows and so on, crafted from shirts and animal bones. :D
