Since the undead (infected) seem to rely on their most basic of (animal) instincts it would be cool if they would be afraid of fire. Carrying a torch would make them keep their distance and a camp fire would create a circle of safety. Especially at night they could be attracted by it but too afraid to attack. Could cause some interesting moments having a horde following you through a town and your torch goes out... (EDIT: title corrected)

That it has not or hardly been done is not an argument. I have no special love for any of the infected movies or series so I am not stuck in one perception about "infected" and feel it would be nice if DAYZ did NOT walk the beaten path. Also the metagaming is not really an argument imo. As it is now you can also take a suppressed weapon and the infected are not really a threat any more, as long as you have bullets. Also, having to carry a torch would make you vulnerable to other players as you need much more time to switch to a weapon and when you are followed by a bunch of infected that would make for a hairy situation. But, it was just an idea for everyone's consideration.

Lol, I was trying to avoid using "zombie" haha, ok "the infected" it is. Yeah I know that scene. Would also be nice to create a ring of fire around you with gasoline.

I try to use only yellow and green barrels which you can hide more or less completely in yellow bushes or green trees. As said, damaged ones work best. If I have a car I try to find a spot with dense trees all around to give the best chance to hide it from sight. And yes, I try to find less traveled spots too. With a car I usually also try to put a barrel in the vicinity so I can put stuff from the car in there when I'm offline. Increases the chance they might find the car but not have the ability to drive it away.

It could also be an overheating issue, if the CPU of GPU gets too hot the system will freeze. Maybe you can run some monitoring software in the background and see what temps you get. -
Had the same issue one day ago, reconnecting to the server solved it.

We could start with having to take of your backpack before you can see what is in it and organize it. It would really be a container and not give quick access to items stored in it (like weapons and ammo) like IRL. Searching for items in the dark could maybe be solved by only showing up in the vicinity window when they are within range of a light emitting device like flashlight, torch, headlamp or whatever gives off light. It would also be a reason for players to use those lighting items instead of just cranking up the gamma and it would make looting more dangerous at night because you would give away your position because of the lights. Just thinking out loud here. -
Need help choosing a loadout/weapons.

I agree that you don't really need 3 weapons, takes up too much space and also the ammo / mags. I do always have a side arm, in case my main rifle gets damaged or bugged, run out of ammo for it or whatever. I also prefer the FNX (hard to find and also mags and .45 ammo) but am also happy with the .357. It packs a punch and the ammo can be found outside mil bases. Coupled with 2-3 speed loaders you should be fine because hey, let's be honest: if you are in a firefight where you empty all mags for the AKM and speed loaders for the magnum and not finding any time to reload them you are most likely gonna be dead anyway. In the past I used to carry way too many mags and spare ammo. Now I am back to using the SKS (because you don't waste as many bullets), with 2 clips and about 40-60 spare ammo. But, I don't look for fights and will avoid them if I can. If for some reason I do run out of ammo without dying I will look for some more. -
I didn't drive a bus myself yet but I assume you down shifted once revs were dropping?

After about 40 hours of playing the game (SA-have no mod experience) I decided I would try the hero role. Went into Cherno well geared and with food and drinks to spare. Didn't take long to find a freshy being harassed by multiple undead. Took all the undead out, bandaged the freshy, gave him opened cans and some soda's. -You Are Dead- Shot in the back by a sniper...I could hear the freshy's horror and surprise by him screaming "Oh my God, Oh my God". I think the freshy bought it too, Decided I would not play the hero again in that way. I helped players after but only if I happened to meet them by chance. -
If you have weapons (and ammo) you can commit suicide yes?

There is no reward for surviving in real life, except life itself, and then you die. To enhance character attachment (and aging) the game should feature visible marks of distinction, like the often suggested beards and scars (instead of beards females can have sagging breasts :) ), maybe even an enhanced skill set compared to new spawns. (supposing surviving for a long time hones your skills). Skills like maybe a steadier aim, higher resistance to adverse weather conditions, faster at performing crafts, lower sound profile when sneaking (for the undead, animals and players), higher probability of catching a fish and so on.

Apart from what is said above me also keep in mind that lowering settings will sometimes decrease fps and not increase it. Mainly because some processes are getting shifted from the GPU to the CPU. Do a search on the forum and you will find loads of info on performance.

Yeah, we need to be able to rape cold undead corpses for sure, let alone the bodies of those we killed. So as a victim we should not only get the message "you are dead" but also "you are dead and your body was violated and after cut up into human steaks".

Running a 32 bit OS? Also: if you feel it is not worth it at the moment (suggesting you see possible improvement in the future) why not simply shelf it and try again in a year?

Fair enough, we'll leave it at that. Just to be clear: I think it's not so unrealistic you would know which caliber/cartridge variation to use when you pick up a weapon because of the markings on gun and cartridge, also, a 9mm would not be able to be chambered with 45 ACP or a 380 with 5.56 and so on. Though it would be kind of interesting that if you chamber your weapon with a fitting but wrong cartridge the gun would blow up in your face :) -
