Would You Balance The M4 and How / Bow and Arrow Discussion?
Accolyte replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
You got that right. 40m is pretty much easy for a trained archer who is using sights even without recoil absorbers and all the fancy things. With sights you would be able to hit kill shots at 100ish meters with some training. However without the recoil absorbers, fatigue would start affecting your accuracy after a few shots. Of course, I was just being smart ;) -

That is true. I was a bit grumpy. I did say I was sorry though :) Let's leave that behind us and focus on the topic. It would be nice to get some more discussion or suggestions. -
Would You Balance The M4 and How / Bow and Arrow Discussion?
Accolyte replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
How am I doing any of that? I went into this discussion because it's close to me as a person who did archery for many years on a competitive level. I feel that I am quite qualified to provide feedback and discuss this matter which is what I was doing in a non-offensive way. I'd suggest you try doing the same.- 109 replies

Would You Balance The M4 and How / Bow and Arrow Discussion?
Accolyte replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
A steel tip is of course fine. You were talking about full steel arrows or at least that was my impression from your writing. If you meant just the point all along then sorry, I misunderstood. EDIT: I don't see an arrow anywhere in that video. All I'm saying is that the arrow would not hold a person's weight and would break. Having a grappling hook on a rope is a whole different matter and sort of off topic in this thread. And do refrain from the poking please, it's not necessary. -

That's essentially malware. -

Correct me if I'm wrong but we're talking about bows and arrows. You are talking about "bolts" for the crossbow in the mod. Steel arrows are nonsense because they would simply be too heavy to be effective. -
Would You Balance The M4 and How / Bow and Arrow Discussion?
Accolyte replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Physical strength is a factor only to some extent. If you have enough strength to fully draw the bow that's all that matters. Being stronger than that doesn't extend your range as it's pretty much just the matter of the pull weight. Steel arrows are nonsense. You should stop watching so many action films. No arrow would allow you to climb concrete buildings. No arrow would hold the weight of a person. -

So basically you just said that because we adjusted the accuracy of one weapon we would adjust the range of another? I don't follow that logic. I do realize you're trolling, I just wanted to point out how poor an attempt that was. There would be little to no difference in range based on the skill of the archer (i.e. anyone can draw a bow and release it). Accuracy on the other hand would most definitely be bound to the skill of the archer. Even more so than with firearms in my opinion. -

Hi, as several people pointed out already, there is no way to stop people from using 3rd party communication software. If DayZ "somehow" captured and transmitted all audio at all times, it would essentially become a malware. I don't see this happening, sorry guys. -

As an archer I wonder why would a bow have a range of 40-50 meters tops. Also a Welsh-style longbow would be made out of yew. Just saying :) -

Hi, the link I posted is to a website which is used to report issues that are present inside the game. We do not do any announcements there as it's not the purpose of that particular site and it is not really tailored for such a task. You certainly can use it to keep track of hot issues and issues that have been acknowledged by our team however. I can see your point in regards to social media. I suggest using the Dev Tracker on this forum which tracks posts made by our team on Twitter for example. Are you suggesting we should log bugs onto whiteboards? I seriously hope I read that wrong. EDIT: Not to mention that most (if not all) of the whiteboards in the video in fact have stuff written on them. The camera focus is just atrocious. -
Every time you log out, your character remains sitting down on the server for 30 seconds. During that time it is possible to do anything to your character. It can be killed, it can be handcuffed (which is essentially killing it), force fed, it can have its legs broken and so on. All of these statuses are saved and will affect your character the next time you respawn.

I would suggest checking out http://feedback.dayzgame.com/plugin.php?page=Vote/list_bugs These are the most discussed issues. If you would search for all issues that have been "acknowledged" you would get a list of issues that are actively being fixed. -
apologists are delaying development.

Actually, DayZ is very far from a direct port. Also, it does not run on the ARMA3 engine although the actual engine utilizes some goodies from RV4. It runs on a heavily modified version of ARMA2 engine. I thought I'd just correct you on that. -
Or you can submit a report to the Feedback Tracker (link in signature). Include a brief description of what you were doing around the time you crashed and upload a .zip/.rar file containing your users\*name*\appdata\local\DayZ folder. That way we can actually fix the problem without you having to come up with workarounds.

Dear TheWanderingMan, I hope you'll forgive me for replying instead of Dean. If you are experiencing any crashes, please submit a report to the Feedback Tracker (link in signature). Note that not every melee weapon hits at the dot/reticle. It's pretty much up to you to get the feel for different weapons and adjust accordingly. In this instance you were aiming way higher than you should have (which is actually pretty noticeable imo).

And after typing that, you honestly expect anyone to come running to help? Good thing we're all nice guys here! Anyways, if you guys are experiencing any crashes, please submit an issue to the feedback tracker (link in signature). Include a description of what you were doing around the time the game crashed and upload the contents of your users/*name*/appdata/local/DayZ folder as a .zip or .rar file as well as a dxdiag report of your computer. Feel free to send me a link to the issue via a PM and I'll take a look at it asap. Cheers!

I have perhaps 1000+ hours of DayZ played and I have never seen someone I could definitely say was cheating. I guess I'm just lucky like that :) To answer OP's questions, BE bans are not dependent on any patches. As a matter of fact I had an issue on the feedback tracker that was posted yesterday, where a player linked steam profiles of two hackers he encountered. When I reviewed the situation today, both of those players had already received their bans.

Time posted: 2014-03-11 15:47 That one will get a response tomorrow morning and would have without you pointing it out. I'm sorry, but we can't always respond instantly. A game crash that affects one (or maybe two) people is of a lower priority than bugs that affect tens if not hundreds of players. I'm sure you can understand that. For the record, past week my colleague Kira and myself have responded to about 500 issues, nearly 50 of which were in fact crashes. That is not counting our very active moderators.- 2645 replies

What should happen is that your character goes into a crouched position for 30 seconds after you disconnect. I'll make sure we check what's going on.
