any update with direct comm
rocket replied to kstone588 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is confirmed as an ArmA2 bug with the use of selectPlayer thanks to hard work by Sickboy. Reproduction produced, handed to BIS programmers for inclusion in a patch. -
Thats correct. they are local to the server. Otherwise, well. 16000 unique players would fill up the world pretty quick.
-
So: - One time purchase (SMALL) for RETAIL? - Community run servers. - Studio run central server. I don't like the idea of a kickstarter or donations. But maybe to get something off the ground. Obviously, as I said before, I have a hardon for the ArmA engine. I really hate the idea of vanity items or any sort of paying for anything ingame but I can understand why people accept them as a means of funding. But I just can't stomach them. Destroys all balance. Also makes development a bit lazy ("lets just make some hats!"). Really good thoughts in here... please keep them coming. Still all just spitballing.

Vehicles had an ... errr... problem. But tents appear to be fine. So do NOT trust vehicles for the moment. But keep testing the tents.

Hahahaha. Hey cmon guys. I have a FRIDGE. I will have you know, that I drink canned Pepsi (much fresher), chilled to perfection. And when I haven't spilled the Pringles on the floor, they're certainly not old! Only the finest Pringles for me.
-
I'm onto you guys, so I switched the spawns a bit to keep things fresh :P It takes a while now to load all the vehicles (so many servers), so I was only able to get a handful of vehicles in. More will appear as the servers crash and restart.

Email dayzdevteam include player name + your primary weapon (so we know we are relifing the right character)

Yeah - my build notes were AWFUL. It took about six hours longer than expected. It was painful, tensions were running high, teamspeak was not a happy to place to be. Being the wall of my apartment or an item on my desk was not either. Save %1 should be "save whatever", it allows you to manually force the save of an object (maybe). needs more testing. Most updates will now occur during the week. Weekend will be left without any updates unless things are critical. Focus now is on reducing the graphical glitches, confirming vehicle/tent saving (please report here). Once that is confirmed, add more vehicles (no update needed for that) test capacity. Then its probably more content, more tented camps and etc...

My personal thoughts and a message to rocket
rocket replied to Timberwolf (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hi Timberwolf, Thanks for your thoughts, what you say summarizes pretty much what we all think. I want to see this project succeed, I think the best way for this to succeed is as part of the ArmA2 system. I also think the project will only succeed if it has the endorsement of the community. I believe the reason the system is a success of sorts is because it was developed in secret, untarnished by the desires of ego and able to stay true to its intent. As you identify, the hardest part is "staying the course" now on that. The most important thing to me, above all else, is to develop the framework for the world and see if it is possible to create a persistent world where the players decide the fate of that world. Free of ego or problems of money. But the project does need structure, that's the hard part - it has now grown to the point where serious technological issues are present on an hourly basis. Anyway, all I can really say is watch this space and see how we go with the next updates. -
I dont know anything about the "bird simulator" - it must be a product of the hack. If you still get it on other servers/after clicking respawn. Check you have latest file versions then email [email protected] for them to delete your previous characters.

See the other threads. Hacker. Ban. Permaban. Name/ID passed to gamespy to "poof" his cdkey.
-
Guys - the "Bird Simulator" is because of a Hacker. He has been banned at the Database and server level, his GUID and account details are passed onto gamespy for the appropriate action. Please keep this topic on patch 1.5.5
-
It was a hacker. His player is: 1473222 His name was GreyWolf He is being banned at server, battleye, and database level. His GUID and PlayerID are being sent through to GameSpy for the appropriate action against his account. Good luck playing any more Multiplayer unless you buy another copy, GreyWolf. Let that be a warning to any other hackers.

Ye olde direct voip fiasco.
rocket replied to Alexander (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is a bug with ArmA2. Sickboy tested and confirmed. Passed onto the code team for next ArmA2 patch. Rolling back means anyone could dupe any item at all, very easily, avoid any death/damage. It is wait for the ArmA2 fix, or put up with mass exploits. I chose wait. -
It's the debug monitor In 1.6 there is an option to turn debug monitor off. I will push the update forward to the next one, and that should fix the stuttering for you.

We do open new servers :) The only restrictions are the physical restrictions needed to actually run the server. Running a DayZ server is complex, because of the arrangement of the central connection, battleye configuration etc... There is nothing secret or special - it's just complex. Also the bandwidth requirements are massive, the servers need to be powerful. We only stand up servers that can handle this, to protect the project, the users, and the hosters themselves (so they don't get huge over bandwidth builds)

1.5.5 is currently in closed public testing. Results look positive.

EU1 lagging badly, restart please

I passed message onto profan. -
The alpha was designed to allow for capacity testing on two servers, each running 50 players. Currently we are running over 40 servers (with 4 more being rolled), with a concurrent player number of well over 1400. 1.5.5 should help a bit. However, we're now maxing out the number of TCP windows can handle on our central server. That means we're need to start doing some really complex stuff at the backend. Effectively we're now running a level of complexity similar to some MMO's. It's going to take a bit of time to sort that out. Just hope this doesn't break on IGN or anywhere before we get this out. We also had a couple of boxes go down because so many people tried to connect at once they effectively DDoS'd that box.

Server Admin issue. Until the project gets more structure' date=' its low priority. I have to sleep sometime, we now have somewhere between 34 and 40 servers. Agreed. Planned. Technology for Bandit switching is being made for this purpose. 1.5.5 is a step towards that. Once bandit switching works seamlessly this will be implemented. Map issues addressed later. Alpha is to get features working. Cool idea, but more of a content issue.

Appreciate your thoughts. For the record. Let it be known that I think PayPal is the biggest piece of shit that has ever appeared on the face of the earth. If the project became more than a mod, it would need to be based on a sensible payment structure that people like. And it would need to be developed in such a way that it doesn't get fucked over by marketing graduates and lawyers. Until then, what am I going to do with your money? There is only so much pepsi and pringles a man can eat :)
