We're gunna need a bigger boat...
rocket replied to ThatGuy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As I said before, there is only so much Pepsi and Pringles a man can eat! And I didn't put ArmA2:CO into the top three on steam - you guys did. You're sending a message to the big studios about modding so well done. It does concern me a bit though, this is a very early and very buggy alpha. There is still a long, hard, way to go. Hopefully people understand that when I say this is alpha, I do mean that. It really IS alpha. There's no meat there yet, playable content and replayability just hasn't even been considered. -
IMPORTANT: Crashed Heli's killing people
rocket replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
If you were killed, contact [email protected] with playerID/playername And if you're a hacker, and you suddenly find you can't join any server. Please email us also, we have a great laugh about it. -
Erm, nope. Returning to lobby IS counted as disconnect by the game, but not by the server. So yes, going to lobby will trigger this.

Jerry cans in game are 20L When refueling, the vehicles fuel quantity is read from config, and increased by 20L. If there is an error with the amount a jerrycan is filling, it will be associated with an error in the config for that vehicle.

Too much? or just right?

Attention! Suicide helicopter wrecks!
rocket replied to predator_v2's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
CONFIRMED. I have made an announcement about this! It's unfortunately a "killer easter egg". A nice surprise idea that ended up killing people. Whatever you do, do NOT get in the crashed heli's (grey ones), because they trigger the anti-hacking scripts and being instantly killed is probably the nicest result out of several the server might do to you (including turning you into a wild boar) -
[1.5.6]Loosing Gear after switching from Bandit to Survivor
rocket replied to Rock_Zombie's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
If this happens, immediately disconnect and try connecting again. I suspect the transfer process became interrupted for some reason. I will try catch this situation in a future update to prevent it happening. -

RIDICULOUS, let us help you add servers!
rocket replied to Magic8Ball (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You're a bit RAM limited. If its only running ArmA2 on it, it might be okay with a small server. My NZ box has 4GB RAM and it tends to run out of juice a bit if it is anything more than 25 players. -
Changable models, as technology, is now confirmed working. It's just a matter of getting a working mechanic now
-
To give a bit more background. The current system is not sustainable in the long run because: - Too many people want to play - ArmA2 wasn't exactly designed for this many players, playing this style, in entirely this way (the engine is perfect, but there are engine bugs that require the source) I'd like to see this become a quality project in the long run. The options there are to accept donations (say through a kickstarter), or come up with some kind of commercial model that keeps the game accessible, keeps the development fresh, and provides a dependable quality gameplay experience. The problem with donations/kickstarters is that you don't really get control over your money. You haven't bought anything. What is to stop me, or someone else, blowing all that money on hookers and cocaine? Where is the structure? The project as it is, is already completely overwhelmed. Imagine if we accepted money now! Someone would be tempted, or make a bad decision, and then the whole thing would come crashing down and we'd all look like idolistic hippies. I'm not really suggesting anything in particular here, I'm genuinely interested in peoples feedback. But I'm also a realist. There is no way the current system can continue like this forever and produce what I think we all want. But I also don't think that your average studio can pull something like this off. That means there needs to be a new approach, something a bit unique, and I think at the very least it needs: - Endorsement of the community. Any success of this project so far belongs to the community rather than any of the DayZ team. Therefore its future effectively belongs to them. The mod was not marketed at all, it's popularity has spread through online groups, stories, videos. - Transparency. What are you getting for your money? I mean, I can't even bring myself to consider opening up a kickstarter. This project has only been released a month, and while I think I'm a pretty decent guy people don't really know me. I think if this become something else people have the right to know what they're getting for their money, and they should have the right to complain if they're not getting that. - Sustainability. I don't want to invest all my free time and effort in something that's not sustainable. Player's don't want to invest their time in that either. And the guys hosting the servers, at considerable expense, they don't want too either. So whatever happens, it needs to be rational, sensible, clearly defined, and not based on some utopian ideals. The only thing I'm really sure on, is that paying for items. I mean that's just, I don't even know what to say. I just think that's a terrible idea. Microtransactions for cosmetic stuff? I guess, but I think that's sort of distracting. Naturally the project will gravitate towards the areas it is getting money from. Then it becomes hat farm. tl;dr We're coping. And by we, I mean the community. The people running the servers. The people dying because they climbed a ladder with a pistol. But we also need to decide what it should be, and we also need to be realistic. It's a good discussion.

^^ Antipop is right. the [email protected] email is completely overloaded. I've given Antipop access so he can help me and the others try and process through the backlog. -
Turn Off Passive Humanity Increase
rocket replied to adrianscholl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Open to suggestions here. Interested to hear peoples experiences and see what they think. Another option is a "high humanity" skin, but the whole humanity/bandit gambit is still leaving a really bad taste in my mouth at the moment. I'm sort of just leaving it "as is" at the moment in the hopes that things spontaneously solve themselves or a better approach comes along. -
Some feedback on loot spawns would be good. Particularly if someone can verify that a building has re-spawned loot that they previously looted. I fixed the damn time sync'ing and now its screwed with the loot spawning. I reduced the buffer zone so now, hopefully, it works. Even if it does I'm going to be replacing the system with something more robust. Also some feedback on the changes to the knockdown system would be really helpful. Thanks for putting the note up Griff, things were pretty busy rolling out to the servers.

Some of the early servers havent loaded their cars yet. When they restart they will pick it up. Cars have been confirmed working and saving (if you force save) somewhere else on the forums, can't find the post right now.
-
You probably want to get rid of it :) Because when the database scans and find you are holding it, you'll be labeled a hacker and your profile perma-corrupted.
-
Have you tried turnning off/on vsync?
-
Consuming food while offline was take out and replaced with Hello Kitty backpacks in a previous update. Not only do you not consume food while offline, you can match your favorite offline fashion accessories directly in game. Really, it's a win-win for all involved.

Allow Sound Modifications for DayZ Servers?
rocket replied to predator_v2's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ utilizes the distance value of sounds when calculating audibility of your character to zombies. It is unfair for different clients to have different audibility values. Some sound mods tested don't work as they use both ArmA and ArmA2 conventions for sound file definition. There is the possibility that one could be integrated in the future. -
It will stay there until: 1. Someone hides it 2. Server restarts 3. Server gets overloaded to deletes bodies when it panics
-
Matt has told me he's going to do what he can to clear some of the backlog.
-
We get an email every ten minutes I'm afraid. There's about five of us responding to emails. We also, well, have to work. And the explosive growth has really ... uh... knocked us a bit! Can you resend please? I'll keep an eye out.

The structure of the world should support this kind of gameplay. I.e. gear interfaces "improved". Grouping/faction interfaces. I would imagine these structural improvements will lend itself nicely to this kind of stuff. But no coded Ironforge or anything.

This is fixed in next update (says "Save Tent", "Save Car", etc...) It's only there as a "backup". It SHOULD have automatically when you repair, get out, get shot, etc... but just in case.
