While I appreciate the sentiment, not all problems can be solved with money. What this requires is architectural changes, and some of the problems require source changes in ArmA2 itself. The issue of delayed logins is more about the servers needing regular restarting than problems with the central server. The central database is barely breaking a sweat at the moment, its the individual servers themselves - often dying because of the constant attempts at connections (at times causing DDoS like behavior). Next update is currently preparing for its final test.... its good....

[FUNNY] Bashur's Totally Rational Fear of Zombies
rocket replied to Capital's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Make sure you turn the volume up, it's very difficult to hear it when it happens. -
The main issue is the logistics of patching over 100 servers. We're working on it, the problem comes from the expected number of concurrent players (about 100 players across maybe 3 servers) with the actual number (between 3000-4000 concurrent players across 100 servers). This makes rolling out updates a very time consuming and somewhat difficult task, even with updates, as the server names all have to be updated, installations verified.

What is the difference between Dayz Staff and Players?
rocket replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nobody has any ingame powers. I'm currently the only person working on ingame code. Only architecture team members have access to the database itself. -
I've been testing skin selecting on a limited scale with a number of people prior to inclusion in a future update. Rest assured, there will be a mechanism to support this in future.

would you mind if I had your children?

It is an individual server administrator issue. One of the connecting applications requires a restart.

Any chance for being able to play as a girl?
rocket replied to Lady Kyrah's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Female models in ArmA2 have a special skeleton and therefore special animations. They can't carry weapons and they would not be able to use the zombie animations currently in. The example posted is someones very hard work at changing one of the base models from the released source. I'm keen on this concept but its complex, difficult, involves several months of work for at least one person. -
If the ban was made IN ERROR it is fairly obvious. These bans can be overturned.

I have seen many comments saying the videos were more compelling than the walking dead. I honestly think there is truth to that. They will be formally recognized in the game, in some way, yet to be determined.

It's an alpha, an early one at that :) My brother is a Virologist, he's New Zealand's main researcher for Influenza Vaccines. He helped me develop the setting and the infection. None of this is outlined in the current implementation, and it won't become part of this until Beta at the earliest which is at least months away. Frankly, I don't really care what anyone else's definitions are or what movie has done what. My hope is to do something new here, and that extends to the story and the setting. Much of which you will have to find out for yourselves in the world. There is very little that will be told to you when it finally gets finished.

It's worthwhile to add it to your bans.txt if you have time. However they are database banned, which means their profiles are destroyed and corrupted and will never be able to load.

Now that DayZ has been on two major gaming sites..
rocket replied to Dasweb's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The forum is hosted on one of our most powerful servers. It's a physical server. I believe it has 8 cores and is full of SSD's. -
Where there is doubt we wait for a trail of data. But it is extremely obvious who these people are. One person did it while I was participating in a live stream. His ban was issued more out of his unbelievable stupidity than due to the hack itself. He asked for the ban to be lifted. His request was denied.

Hackers are receiving database level permabans when they are identified. 1.5.7 has some new server and client side updates to identify hackers. They will be automatically banned at the database level, meaning their game will lockup when connecting to any server. To those who have emailed requesting clemency: Ban's are irrevocable when issued You do the crime, you do the time. Personally, hacking in a game like this is far worse than piracy. You are undermining the whole integrity of the project.

We will begin port blocking such servers. Along with servers who are underperforming - such as are not conducting scheduled restarts (for those that have not given us updated RDP details so we can't do it ourselves.

Zombie/Loot counts are dependent on server performance. If the server admins are not regularly restarting the server (every six hours) then the server will have difficulty spawning in. HOWEVER. Low zombie numbers are NOT an indicator of breaking, unless they are at 0. The server only spawns in what it needs.

We have opened up 5 new servers in the last hour, across the globe. We are missing Asia/Pacific servers however...

Why is this forum so slow at loading?
rocket replied to robertstuartmarshall's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Demand. We're getting absolutely hammered. We keep moving and upgrading to new servers, but that's not a simple task. We'll be doing another migration soon that should help things. -
