Could I have some server owners email their RPT files? I am almost CERTAIN the servers aren't cleaning up (again). Hence the slow descent into FPS madness....

Patch 1.5.7 and this being an Alpha and fucking zombie spawns
rocket posted a topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Okay, so still people don't realize this is an Alpha. If you do not know what this means - go look it up on wikipedia RIGHT NOW. When I fix one bug, many can crop up. I fixed some zombie spawning bugs, time syncing bugs, and now there are alot of zombies. This became apparent in testing, but rather than delay the patch release by a few days (too many people are helicopter dying) the update was released. So yes, the zombie numbers weren't my intention - but now that it is here, let us see how they play out. Maybe we might actually learn something from it or maybe everyone just wants to jump to conclusions in the first ten minutes... -
You have me all day tomorrow but it is 11pm here, and I'm going to relax and watch something on TV and eat some dinner :) Will update tomorrow on this issue.
-
yes, known issue. Will try release a hotfix tomorrow. Suspect it relates to the new anti-hacking mechanisms.

The idea is to go to having food snapshot like the rest of the medical system. But, as highlighted, it is sort of halfway between the old system and out desired system. When I get the chance I will have this rewritten.

This server is running an incorrect version of the server side application
rocket replied to fifass's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Its not an issue with the addon files. It is an issue with the server side application (HIVE). With this update, your client will refuse to work if the server hoster is running an old version. Many server hosters (about 50% of servers) have opted not to use our automated updating and monitoring program and we probably don't have their RDP details. Therefore they are the only ones who can update the files. Contact the server owner and advise them they need to update HIVE. -
If you don't go through to "requesting data from server" within 5 minutes, try another server. Central system has more or less recovered now, but individual servers themselves are effectively getting DDoS'd from people trying to connect. So many people were trying to connect to the NY 1-4 servers before that I got constant packet drops when i tried to debug why RDP stopped working.

Gender selection is problematic at the moment, I'll look at a solution soon :) Mostly it is relating to the server not having a chance to save, well, bugger all because of the load it is under. Sorry about that, but going to take a few days to unravel. Just need to wait until the shakes disappear from watching the most powerful server I've controlled in my life be bought to its knees and slaughtered by you folks :)
-
Roger, any more detail that can be provided is awesome. I'll investigate this as a priority. I think it relates to the anti-hacking methods, however it is probably a complex layer of several different things.
-
There does appear to be a significant number of FPS issues reported. My guess is these probably relate to the anti-hacking measures that were extended with the last update. I'll look into some optimization ASAP.
-
The new version was tested internally for about 8 hours (we tested instead of sleeping). However, the issue was associated with a server full of fifty people x 300 servers. We can't test that kind of capacity. Some code issues only appear under load, hence why this is an open alpha. Things run very well when connected with three or four people. Indeed, I actually run a public test for a while with this update, but all people did was try to connect with the old patch, and then ignore my requests for assistance and just spam the chat with complaints about why the server was runing 1.6.0.1 and not 1.6.0.
-
There is some bugs with the gender selection, so I'm going to need to figure something out. Priority at the moment is to keep the webserver from constantly its pants. As an interim measure in the next patch I might do the resets per character (so on death) but going to focus on server stability at the moment.

The waiting for server is an issue now, because we had several nodes go down at once combined with a hotfix happening at the same time, as well as heavy website demand. This then caused a cascading failure leading the the central server itself to die. The system recovered but then began falling over as the entire network effectively DDoS'd itself from withing. Even the local nodes themselves (such as NY) got stuck. Bringing up a network of over 300 server's is pretty difficult. Just as the system was recovering itself, one or two nodes would crack under the pressure and the cascading failure started again bringing down more and more nodes as the central server became overwhelmed and stopped accepting connections. I then bought down the website to try and help the server cope, and took down all nodes myself and manually bought them up (kind of like how you recover after a powercut).
-
Can you report feedback now with the 1.6.0.1 update? I too had it, and with the new update it is gone.
-
Could people post some more detail around what is going on when the performance is poor? I.e. What is the weather doing.
-
That's why it isn't implemented yet. I just posted this because I have a number of people emailing and getting upset about me supporting this. I think my post has been partially quoted somewhere and therefore taken entirely out of context. Hence the post here.

If you are in swiming animation, wait a few minutes and then it should return to normal. Try moving around during this time or dropping gear and picking it up. But i'll see if I can isolate a fix for it.

WTF is happening to the server community.
rocket replied to Koot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Much of this "meta-game support stuff" is really complex, and I was only planning it for the later stage of Alpha. But I will have a look at see what I can put in for the next update. If you have any concrete ideas, please consider ticketing them up at the DayZ section of www.dev-heaven.net as this is the most efficient way to manage requests and bugs. -
Gender problems (lol), email dayzdevteam with "SERVER GENDER SELECTION" in heading with your PlayerID. Limited time only, I haven't slept or eaten all weekend and I'll be going out to the supermarket in a few hours.

WTF is happening to the server community.
rocket replied to Koot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was thinking more along the lines of "something to do". I already have the models for generators, so we can add some stuff to that. Like maybe light towers as someone suggested. I'll focus on the vehicles more this update too, and add in that when you kill someone it has a chance to destroy some of their gear. And again to reiterated. Don't expect me to be perfect, I'm never going to be. The sooner people realize this the better. -
The main server logs when you login and logout. If it detects you doing this too many times in a short space, it will warn you when you login. If it continues to detect this, then it will punish you by killing your character.

The skins are a very low spawn. They should spawn in higher quantity at the crashed helicopter, and also in other buildings. It would ruin the exploration a bit if I told you more :)

WTF is happening to the server community.
rocket replied to Koot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Look, I really want to clarify something. And I hope this doesn't get lost in a whole bunch of endless posts. It's not my intention to be a dick, my intention is to engage in a real dialog, real discussions, with people rather than go through some plastic process and appoint a community manager. Personally, in game development. I have never, ever, seen this work. The game developers don't really listen to the community manager, because he's not in the development team. The community manager is generally there to feed out updates. Now, there's been some real good discussion here. I've got angry, you've got angry - that's good. Points were made. Now if I wanted to avoid the "rocket is a dick" or "rocket is an arrogant prick" comments I could just as easily not come into the forums, or lock all the things I don't like, or appoint someone to be a "community manager" and then just ignore everything. But I haven't, and I've also chosen to let you all see the real me, flawed, with my tendency to sarcasm and swearing and all. I can change that, and turn on my super-professional non-swearing, non-sarcastic, ignore-everything-I-don't like mode. But what I really want to do is to try and develop something where the community is deeply engaged with it. That can only happen where I can be me, and that people let me make mistakes, let me say the wrong thing sometimes. I don't expect anyone to be perfect, I think it's only fair that people don't expect me to be perfect either. But I think it is fair to expect me to be able to grow and learn from situations. So I am going to focus the attention of the next update on some mechanics to provide more expansion for group play. It's clear to me from the discussion here that this is an area we all agree if improved will help steer things away from being a total deathmatch. What I ask, is that you don't hang on every single minute detail of everything I say and then bash me over the head with it every second, so that I become so scared to post what I am thinking lest someone on reddit thinks I'm a bad person. I would say about 90% of the ideas I ever have are absolutely terrible. The only way I have found to escape this, is by talking to other people about the ideas and then using their feedback to find the 10% that have some merit. If this is how the forums end up, where I'm scared to be myself (resplendent in all my humor) then I will loose the ability to do that.- 492 replies

Sorry guys, still quite a bit of balancing needed on the temperature system. Will be a while before we get that right.

Probably a server side error, sorry about that. If you could email [email protected] with your RPT file, I will see if I can reset you.
