    Hi guys, I'm finally back (although sans laptop thanks to Air France) - that's for consolidating the the list. I'll get to work and let people know how we are looking for the next update.

    I really can't stress how much of a change this will be, particularly for server owners. Server installation will be simplified drastically. The speeds are greatly increased.

  8. The master server has restarted once in the history of the project. It's not really worth the effort of coding that.

    My Rant: Why I am Done with the Game.

    I just said I agree there are problems with most parts of the design. That's what Alpha is for. I don't necessarily agree with his solutions, but again. That's why we're all here. To find out what this will become. The discussion is good, I soak up as much as time allows.

So the infected: - Cannot feel pain - Lacks all reasoning other than basal instinct - Has no human emotions - Has only the desire to attack I can understand the folks who want the zombies slowed down for gameplay reasons. But what completely dumbfounds me, is why do people steadfastly believe that in "real life" they would be able to outrun a person in such a state? I'm genuinely curious, as such a notion seems absurd to me. Removing alot of the human thoughts from the brain, such as fear, pain, self preservation - would make someone extremely hard to get away from.

    My Rant: Why I am Done with the Game.

    I agree with most of the points or at least parts of them. It's an alpha, a technology demonstration. It's to be expected from those familiar with that definition, but obviously those who aren't familiar with the software industry won't know what that means. Lets fix the bugs, develop the game, and stop talking about all these other games. PS. I've gone all day without swearing.

    I have reviewed the information. You need to be very careful when you question a person's integrity. In fact for me personally, there is nothing that will get me upset faster than someone questioning my integrity. What you did was wrong, coming in here and doing that. All you have proved is that you and the person had some kind of dispute. This is a petty dispute about something completely irrelevant to this project. Again, your motivation is this dispute and not DayZ at all. You have bought discredit on yourself and those associated with you and lost all respect from me. Even if what you say is true, what you've done is waste my time because you want revenge. "He that studieth revenge keepeth his own wounds green, which otherwise would heal and do well."

    @ Dayz team

    There is no drama in the development team. I am currently the weakest link in the DayZ team because I am the sole ingame coder. A few people have helped me out with error checking and code submission. Some folks come into my home (this forum), bringing their issue against that person here. Even if everything they said about this person is true - they don't care about this project at all. Their concern is about the ongoing fight they are all having. This is not a playground. Take your fight elsewhere. If you can't restrain yourself from posting, I am more than happy to help in that regard.

    What upsets me far more than anything you have accused that person of, is the way you treat someones integrity as a gossip currency. You deliberately sidestepped my attempts to let that person remain nameless. This confirms to me one thing, this post was never about the DayZ project at all. This post is about an issue between you all. Grow up, and get this filth out of my home. I will not have people's integrity thrown around like some common muck while I am here. Last warning.

    Hi there, I removed the person's name, and the links. I hope you understand, but I think that probably it should have been something emailed through to the email address and kept in private (there is a contact the team link on the main site). Posting like this is, well, really a form of slander. Even if the person could prove this isn't true, you will already have harmed that person. I might add, that nothing you posted is proof of anything at all - even if they were the person in the images speaking. The development teamspeak chat for DayZ has far worse on a nightly basis. From what I can tell, you're saying that the person involved: - Joined to help out the development mod/mission - Was around for 1.5 years causing disruption - Disagreed with the team and/or you - There was an argument, people left, took their/everyones work - The mod project died You don't, however, tell me what you're asking me to do. Are you suggesting that I should remove this person from helping out with the development? From my own experience, the pure and simple truth is rarely pure and never simple. Nearly all the code is written by me and uses other community projects such as CBA, JayArmA2lib, and so on. I'm not quite sure how you can expect this person to bring down an entire project, I'm quite sure that if I ditched the project it would carry on. A project is not about one person, and I don't think one person can kill a good idea. Once a good idea catches, a really good idea, it becomes more than itself and more than the person who started it. That's the cool thing about good ideas. When people try and control that idea, and control who has access too it - that is when you have issues. Maybe some of these issues were the one that bought down the project you speak of. My recommendation would be, if someone is damaging the mod - don't wait 1.5 years to ditch them. I have ejected several members from the team and rejected nearly all the work submitted from random people. I did this because I am (trying) to apply production standards, not to upset people - but that is the standard set for the project. If people are being difficult, or they want to cause trouble, or start threatening to leave. Fine. I say "there is the door, don't let it hit your arse on the way out".

    Pre-Download test/application

    I can see where people are coming from with their requests to err more towards co-operative gameplay. But the fact is, L4D2 would provide a much better co-operative gameplay environment currently. The main focus of this is survival, and interactions with players are the most serious aspect. This means we need the bandits, they are needed to supply the tension. The fact a player can do anything and "get away with it" and a reason the experience is so compelling. However, modelling consequence is within the scope of the project, and that's something that will be tried out in future updates until we get it right.

Considering the fuss that happened when I ADDED female characters to the game, can you guys imagine what would happen if I ACTUALLY did this? :P On a serious note, I'm keen to explore some of the more adult themes including those around alcohol and other drugs - but it needs to be considered very careful and in context with the situations, pressures, tensions, and emotions that the system is intending to place on the player... once the current system has been sorted out more.

    DayZ Build 1.6.0 Rolling Update

    Wow quite a read here. I wanted to try out the female model purely to see what issues were associated with it from a technical standpoint (I mean, this is Alpha after all folks!). About halfway through i realized somehow the players were going to have to select it. I also realized that selection is a complex process, that places some demand on the database. So I very quickly put a basic dialog together and slapped it in the middle of the authorization process. This is neither a neat or elegant solution, and as such, I didn't want people changing their minds all the time and further overloading a system that is already near capacity most of the time. So please, every second post seems to be putting words or thoughts in my mouth and saying "clearly rocket thinks this", or "he intends to do this". Quite simply, I wanted my little sister to be able to play DayZ, and I don't think my sister is alone in wanting to play DayZ. She wanted to be able to play as a girl. There are a bunch of cool effects and interesting data that may come out of it, but don't read too much into the implementation I made. I was surprised to hear that people want to play as a girl or a guy differently each time, because there is only a visual difference and I figured that not many people would really be interested in it. I certainly didn't expect it to spawn an entire discourse on sexuality in gaming, but now that it's here - sure why not. It's an interesting topic to explore because no studio wants to be caught dead dealing with this.

    Changes to female characters

    I trained as both an NZ Army and RNZAF (Air Force) Officer. As part of that training, I did my NZ Army Officer training, RNZAF Officer Training, and I also did the Singaporean Armed Forces Infantry Officer training on exchange. During that time, I saw the female cadets treated exactly the same as the male cadets and carrying just as much. The NZ Army (and the Israeli Military I might add) makes no distinction between Male and Female. Whatever my thoughts were before training, after training there was no doubt in me that a tough woman is just as tough as a tough man. Overcoming adversity is just as much about your mental resilience as physical. Anyway, as I've said before, I'm striving for authenticity (the suspension of disbelief) rather than realism. I admit we're not at that point yet, but I think we're well on the way.

  23. Majority opinion doesn't necessarily matter, but serious discussion definitely does. I have a direct line with tens of thousands of players, that gives me a pretty awesome resource of ideas. Obviously, rolling back an update isn't a good idea. I was nervous about dropping bandits but the data just doesn't support the skin transitions having an effect. I want to see if the data is right, so what would be good to hear is people's experiences and feelings over the next few days. That is really valuable to the development. Incredibly so. There is no dollar value you can put on that.

    Is this worth $30

    My opinion: ArmA2:CO is worth a lot more than $30. DayZ will be worth that. But it is an Alpha. It is buggy as . If you are keen to help out with the development of this project (and can keep an open mind), then we'd love to have you. But buyer beware.

    Any ETA on fixing lag?

    Within the next 20 hours. I'll go to sleep shortly, then I will get up and work on it. I'm relaxing at the moment reading a book as I've been working pretty hard over the weekend. Got to chill out for a bit and recharge the batteries. Sorry guys, I know its a pain.
