  1. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EULA'S NOTHING AT ALL MOST EULA'S ARE NOT WORTH THE PAPER THEY ARE PRINTED ON I STUDIED LAW, DID YOU?
  2. Locked. If you want help, post what your post was about. We're pruning a number of posts that are not helpful, or are ridiculous. If you post what it was about, then we will look into it. If not, we'll ban you. Deal with it.

Rocket you are killing this mod

PLEASE SEARCH BEFORE POSTING AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN. I can't even be bothered posting my reply, Read the discussion at Reddit. You guys talking about EULA's and IP law like you actually know a thing. For fucks sake, seriously. Pisses me off. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/v0yqr/rocket_demands_takedown_of_kronzkys_dayz_sp/ Locked AGAIN.
  4. HAHAHA. That made me smile! Brightened my day :D
  5. Hacking has reached pandemic proportions. Soon you will see why this is a very, very good thing.

    Rocket Asking for Testers

    I didn't get a single PM :(
  9. People told me I'd loose my spirit when I joined the Air Force at 17. They said the same thing when I re-enlisted in the Army at 28. Again when I had to redo all my officer training as part of it. Again when I got sent on exchange to redo (again) officer training in singapore with 18 year old. They are saying it again now. My point, if two branches of the military couldn't break my spirit, resolve, sense of wonder, and disdain for the ordinary and worn path... then I honestly don't think you guys will be able to wear me down. If I can't be directly connected to you guys, what is the point? I don't have a wife/kids. The thing I value most in life is interaction with people. That is why I like modding. My favorite part of E3 was discussing new concepts with people, watching kids totally ace ArmA3. Seeing all these new concepts, cultures, language, and ways of playing games growing in youth really gave me a kick. I want to be part of that, and that's why I am here. Really, going forward. That is my one stumbling block with any developer/publisher/venture capitalist wanting to fund this project. Without the creative freedom, blunt honesty, and direct interaction this project is doomed to failure.
  10. Well' date=' post the suggestions here then? So far, I've seen requests for logs and all sorts of things - things that we don't have access too because [i']we don't manage the servers. I also don't work on the game engine code, so I can't answer those kinds of questions. And what I do know, would be covered by an NDA. Did you see Churchill announcing D-Day battle plans to the world on the eve of battle? Just because you can't see anything happening doesn't mean it is not. Look, the guys who designed the bypasses and etc. They are not stupid. The existing system doesn't work, no amount of mod or server admin work will stop the hackers. The bypass designers know this, I know this. The fixes need to come from the engine and the appropriate systems for detection in there. Period. Any work I could do, detecting this and that in scripts - all it does is disrupt the performance of the good players. The solution here is not slap-dash systems. The solution here is sensible, robust solutions designed at the highest level. The designers of these bypasses, they know this. They have been saying this for years. Now it has achieved such visibility that changes will be made. Before you question the dedication, commitment, and declare a dedicated team of people volunteering their time "don't know what they are doing". Walk a mile in their shoes.
  11. *shrug* There's not really an alternative I guess. Give up? I do feel terrible because people's otherwise good experiences are being ruined. And the hackers are doing what they do because there is a gap in the game/mod. So we have fix that. I could yell and scream and moan all I want but it's not going to do anything. I have a degree of respect for the true hacker. What has happened here though, is the master's craftsmanship has ended up in the hands of those who couldn't otherwise wield it. I don't have respect for those people, and they'll get the surprise that they deserve. But hacking will always be an ongoing problem. That the issue has received such great visibility so early in development is a positive sign. Obviously this is cold comfort to those affected, but the only other option is to give up really.
  12. Legitimate issue. Important issue. As I said in the other post, take comfort that the issue has now become such a great threat, that those doing the hacking are so obvious, that it has been highlighted and made the moves necessary to solve the problem. Nothing else I can really discuss, yet.
  13. You need to make sure the bisign file is in the server keys folder, thats the PUBLIC KEY. not just the normal dayz addon sign files.
  14. I absolutely TOTALLY agree about the little things making a big difference. But this does have a big impact on performance. I will conduct some more tests once performance and netcode improvements have been confirmed as working in 1.7.1

    Early survival - Going further

I want to give people a torch, but you need a backpack to put the torch away currently. So I think people need a backpack to start.

    [Spoiler] Digging in the PBO's

Its really, really old :) Those were all just working notes from like January before the mod even developed. Like I said in some interviews, I came up with quests briefly in a moment of weakness when I was (lol) worried that nobody would be interested in playing the mod. I cowboy'd up. I just have yet to delete the text files :)
  18. Obviously, it would be counter productive to discuss what is going to happen before it happens. All I can say is that I am thankful that this early in Alpha we have been able to collect so much data on who, what, when, where, and how the hacking is occurring. It might sound weird, but if it was a couple of isolated incidents we probably would not have been able to get the resources devoted to it we have. Better a disaster to galvanize change.

    kronzky SP conversion

Crosspost from reddit: How many times do I have to explain this? Kronzky initially released it without asking me, and I discussed it with him and asked that he wait because it was causing an issue for the development. I was receiving large numbers of reports and bug requests because the system isn't designed for single player. It was distracting from the main effort. We came to an agreement, and I gave him access to my source repository so he could begin researching to develop the single player version but I required him to discuss and work with me around timing for releasing it and how it was released. He didn't do this, and just did whatever he wanted. So I terminated my relationship with him, as this was a complete betrayal of my trust as far as I am concerned. From Kronzky's own site: "Please DO NOT MIRROR any content from this site." and "I appreciate your contributions to the community, and the fact that you are spreading the word about new content for ArmA, but having outdated versions is in nobody's interest." The same is true here. I don't want confusion, I gave him the option of working with me and even gave him access to my private source repository and he abused that privilege. As such, I made the necessary arrangements to have it taken down. 1. I wanted a single repository of download, version sync'd so that there was no confusion. 2. Security issues were greatly increased. A known hacker site was using Kronzky's version for testing of their hacks prior to using them on public servers. 3. I think he was being disrespectful, and he betrayed my trust with his actions. 4. Single Player was not the focus of the mod. I was prepared to work with him to develop this in future but I wanted the timing to be right. I haven't made ONE SINGLE DIME out of this mod. I could have made a shitload out of it. It really disappoints me when people make assumptions without checking my side of the story, especially here on reddit where I generally find people try and balance both sides. I made plenty of forum replies about this - but new threads keep poping up that continually post the one side argument. TOPIC LOCKED, STICKIED, SALTED, BUTTERED

    Can't type in side channel

No, but the effect is included in the new beta patches. Sorry, I realize my post is confusing. The disabling is done in the mission file, already released. But it requires running the beta client to be effective. The beta client is required by 1.7.1. Ergo, nobody will be able to use side/global in 1.7.1

Side/Global chat is disabled in 1.7.1. Additional communication means occur in 1.8 going forward, but you have to find them.
