In your steam application settings, you can choose a "beta branch". This allows you to opt in to our experimental branch to try it out. Does my saved character get affected in experimental branch? No. It runs on a different database, so any changes will not affect your character on stable branch. I can't find a slot while on experimental branch! Only a small number of servers run this branch. You will need to change your game back to the stable branch and play on a normal server Can I join a stable branch server wil experimental branch client? No, you would need to change your client back to stable. When will this be in stable? We expect stable to be updated before the end of that week (by 7 February 2014). Why has <insert any bug> not been fixed yet when there is new content coming in? While priorities are very important when assigning work, there is a limit to how many people can work on a complex task without making it even more complex. Also, many of the team are focused purely on content/design so while the important stuff is being fixed, they continue to provide content and design updates. Is mouse acceleration being fixed? It is not fixed in this update, but we plan to make control changes. It is not as simple as turning it "off" as the speed your character turns is not dictated by the mouse itself, but your movements combined with the type of weapon you have, how tired you are, etc. New: Actions: chambering SKS round from pile, loading 10 rounds from pile Actions: You can uncuff other players with the hacksaw Actions: Cannot use an item (e.g. drink/eat) if it is "Ruined" Actions: Interactions with items reworked. UK servers on experimental had old version. It's being reconfigured now. For future note, if you're experiencing crazy issues on a server... don't keep connecting to that server. Go on a different one. I.e. if you are having trouble with UK server, go on SE one. Each box hosts about 4 or 5 servers. -

That is probably because the server is full. I have been played on experimental no problem since the patch, as has several others in the office. Certainly it feels much more stable than stable, to me, at the moment. -

Part of the problem is a known crash, that we've already fixed but that we have not pushed to experimental yet. It's 11pm here so we will push it to experimental sometime tomorrow. The server crashes when someone tries to craft an object in hands that there is no space for. -

Main issue is that too many testing servers makes it a real nightmare to do the updates. WIth a small number of servers we can make the updates much more regular, and we can be a little bit more risky about what we send out. Otherwise we would be going through the same testing, drama, and effort, as releasing to the stable branch. -

I didn't say it was the hosters fault, several times I have specifically said that we didn't know the exact issue, and that while it wasn't affecting most hosts, it wasn't exclusively affecting one. From the very start of the project, we knew that character instability would affect everyone. We will plan many character wipes, we will not hesitate to reset the database. This is why the very first parts of the steam description describe this very situation, in capital letters no less. Throughout our alpha, you will recklessly loose your character to instability, wipes, all manor of problems. Because we are actively developing the game we are not focused on individual characters status. We only want to make the future game good. Therefore, if making a change will make the future game better but erase all previous characters - then we will not hesitate to do that. I'm very proud that through this whole process, I've done everything I can to educate uses as the state of the game and what will happen through the Alpha process. I cannot think of a single thing more I could have done to educate better as to the situation. I would recommend you take a break, read through the warnings on the steam page, and recognize that while it is a very frustrating situation - it is one that we have clearly communication would happen (and will continue to happen) constantly.- 469 replies
