[HICKS] We've Only Got 2*+ Years of Dev Support Left
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
QUESTION: The final release is coming 1.0 at some point. Do you see yourself adopting more of the Minecraft model of 1.0 happens and then we just keep going on? Or do you see it more as we hit 1.0, the game is done, we’re going to continue to support it with patches and bug fixes, but do you see the content continuing to trickle out after that? Brian Hicks: What the company does is not specifically up to me, but I and I believe Mark, the CEO, both agree on this, is the development continues on DayZ long past 1.0. I’m not talking just bug fixes. We’ll flesh out more types of vehicles, we’ll implement things that we might not have been able to get to in the early access development. We will continue, but hear me, we’ll continue developing DayZ past 1.0. How far past 1.0? I don’t know, but I know when I’ve spoken to Mark, he was passionate about at least two to five years. Source: http://www.dayztv.com/post/dayz-interview-brian-hicks-engine-mods-hordes-beta/ Mark is Marek Spanel (CEO) and the source material ^ is from 2015. In earlier portions of the same article ^, HIcks also says: I don’t think we’re looking at any severe delays. I think, all in all, when you look at the scope of the project, we were looking at originally a 2.5 to 3-year development cycle. I think if we don’t hit that 3-year, we’re going to be damn close, I honestly believe so. With all of that said, Hicks said Marek Spanel (CEO) is interested in developing 2-5 years past 1.0 when they believed 1.0 was going to happen by the end of 2015. A very valid argument can be made that we've got 2 years left. Devs (Eugen) currently say (Status Report) that DayZ has another year of development left which reduces that figure to one year. Will they go over the 1 year mark of final development? Probably. Predicitng the future has never been BI's strong suit so if we look at the bottom of the bottle here: We'll be lucky if we get what was promised on the roadmap(s). I wouldn't expect anything extra. In 2015, I bet sales were much better than they are now which opens another can of worms: is it profitable for BI to development another 2 or 5 years after 1.0 at these buy rates? I know for a fact sales are stale. I've been tracking units sold since the beginning through 3rd party sites (which are no longer available). If I'm not mistaken it took BI ~2 years (March 2017 - December 2018) to sell ~500k PC units (possibly counting console by varying percentages). A company simply can't afford to support an IP when the money dries up. Devs said that since EA on XBL there has been 500k units accessed (using my own word here, can't find source) meaning 500k people is the number of people that have played DayZ for that free week as well as those who bought a copy combined. How many played during the free week that are being pooled into this number that didn't purchase a unit(?)...no idea. But I think we can all agree that it's a significent amount otherwise they wouldn't even mention it. Maybe how DayZ got to 4M units sold is due to console and console alone. Nobody knows because sales tracking has been down for several months and two possibly important articles are currently offline (looking for source on the 500k bit). https://dayz.com/blog/status-report-20-november-2018 https://dayz.com/blog/xbox-development-briefing-30-11-2018 https://dayz.com/blog/xbox-development-briefing-november-16-2018 TL;DR There is a strong air of uncertainty that DayZ will reach the end of the roadmap(s) that's been discussed. We'll possibly be feature complete, possibly not. Sales are down and 1.0 is a shitshow, how long will Marek support 88 devs at a cost of 3,500,00 - 5,000,000 (guessstimate based on 50kx88 equalling 4.4M which is how I got to 3.5M - 5M as some are presumably making more or less than 50k/year) annually just for salary (I didn't include other costs which I'm sure are really significent). -
All of these linked articles are 404 atm. https://dayz.com/blog/status-report-20-november-2018 https://dayz.com/blog/xbox-development-briefing-30-11-2018 https://dayz.com/blog/xbox-development-briefing-november-16-2018

A wipe for 1.0 for community service?
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to Uncle Zed's topic in General Discussion
If the devs are wiping, probably a good idea to do that same? -
DISCLAIMER: I've stood behind this game since 2012 and have supported development 99.7% of the time and only been vocal/critical these last few months. With that said...I was leaning towards the devs getting it done before Christmas, but it's not going to happen...there isn't enough time. They're already saying they can't do anymore Status Reports this year...why are there no more Status Reports? They can't take long to make. Traditionally, the team leaves a week or so early for travel accomodations which leaves at least two good weeks left. Since BETA we have Modding Tools that don't work and have zero documentation. I'm sitting around here waiting to adjust infected and loot with the CeEditor for WEEKS now. How are we suppossed to use it when there are no instructions on how to do so? Last I heard, CeEditor doesn't even work when trying to deploy. Essentially, devs rushed broken modding tools out to the public. I find that unreasonable and unacceptable. Basebuilding and Persistence are broken and there simply isn't enough time to fix it. Players came in droves for Basebuilding and new fetures/assets/etc and they've left as quickly as they came. Bohemia Interactives biggest flaw is they simply don't understand the lingua franca of the customer. Example... Rush the console port out (Hicks even said it in an DUG interview), get a buzz, then destroy it with broken night and rain. Initial rush there was a good 6 servers with max pop and plenty underneath with comparable populations. Now it's one if you're lucky. Why leave the game for a weekend of play with night and rain non-stop? I could be wrong here and I apologize if I am, but isn't the crunch time cycle like a 7 day a week affair? I've read a few dev written articles on the subject so I'm not just grabbing that out of thin air. As it stands on PC, you can't even shutdown a server and restart it without persistence getting partially wiped. I can't modify infected I can't modify starting health I can't modify stamina ror sprinting I can't modify a simple custom loadout I can't modify loot lifetime of 50 seconds (why would that even be a stock value anyway?!?!?!) so players can't lootfarm and despawn camps Hell, I can't even get on the bug tracker or get my players over there to file bug reports! The core issues will not be fixed in the next two weeks, we haven't had a PC update in 11 days. Why the big rush anyway? The reasoning posted was very ambigious and not clear. I know PlayStation was the first console to get on board, is this one of the reasons for the rush...to get it out on PlayStation or some sort of fulfillment with console contracts? Everybody knows the console contracts/deals/whatever-you-want-to-call-it made the new engine, renderer, etc possible so they must obviously have SOME SORT of deadline attached. I don't think there is adequate transparency going on here and I really wish Dean was here yelling at Marek. "The thing is, if I'm involved in the project, I'll be fighting anybody on the project to make sure it's good, so for the rest of the year, I'm there. And I don't just sit around; it doesn't matter if I'm the cleaner or the leader or whatever, I will be making sure - I will be in Marek's [Spanel, CEO] office yelling at him. I'm notorious for it." -Dean Hall Source: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-02-24-dean-hall-to-leave-bohemia-and-step-down-as-leader-of-dayz We need a leader that isn't scared to put Marek in his place. If there isn't a monetary obligation, just postpone the dang thing and release with your best foot forward. You don't take a hot chick out on a first date to Chick-fil-A do ya? You put your best foot forward, not a foot with dogshit on the bottom and your big toe poking through a hole.

Fix the Forced Night Issue on PC Please!!!
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
Night time sucks, I don't want night time on my servers until it looks halfway decent so please fix the dang forced night time on the servers. Tried most of the fixes, nothing works. I don't want the time to stay persisstent, I want the server to restart to the times I have saved. We're removing the types.bin every 8-12 hours and it's a lot of work with taking backups every 4 hours. No server owners should be expected to perform this type of workload. We're paying money every god dam month and we have to work every dam day to have a normal running server. Put us on the payroll because we're keeping YOUR work alive!!! I shouldn't have to post this type of content, it should be done for crying out loud. -
Really? rVn and Geez have both told me this is the incorrect channel and that hacking reports should go directly to BattlEye. Proof...(I have more if you need it, I figured two would be sufficent?). Seems to me like somebody is fibbing here. I know y'all are super busy making a great DayZ for all of us to enjoy, so why is the main man (Producer/Creative/Director/Etc) doing Community Manager or forum admin/moderator work? I find it upsetting this guy gets a reply, but no replies on fixing forced time persistence which creates several hoops for server owners to jump through to keep their servers starting with day time. After all it is DayZ...not NightZ.

BI Needs to Postpone 1.0
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Huh? Hicks being hired or fired doesn't change what FEATURE COMPLETE means. Dean isn't here either so maybe we scrap the infected and put Brony plushies in as antagonists? We don't have to take shit. That's the wrong attitude my friend! -
BI Needs to Postpone 1.0
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Wrong. Hicks said dozens and dozens of times that by the time DayZ hits BETA she will be feature complete. Then the new features come in at 20% instead of 80% and bug fixing is 80% instead of the 20% its been before BETA. DayZ is NOT featue complete. Nowhere NEAR feature complete. Bohemia Interactive doesn't have the clout and isn't big enough to rewrite industry terms. This is NOT BETA and 1.0 will not be a proper release. Who release a game with THIS MANY bugs??? Don't you think it's funny that nobody even remembers BETA Strike Teams 1 & 2? The engine should have been done during or before Pre-Alpha, thats when that stuff happens. If Marek had fully gotten behind Dean's vision, we wouldn't be in this pickle. Alpha is deployment of features and BETA is bug fixing. Thats how it works. This is what you're saying in a picture... If Bohemia Interactive wants to get back into the Major Leagues, they need to step up their batting average and start scoring. You can't release broken games and expect to knock it out of the park. -

The other day the tracker was broke and wouldn't accept resetting of passwords for my personal account. It took 3 days to get to someone to help and the site was down for a day to fix it (embarassing turnaround imo). I just had someone sign up, screen freezes during the acceptance check. Tried resigning up with the same credentials and it said the name and email was already in use. Can't login, no verification email, tried resetting passwords and got this: Honestly I'm sick and dang tired of jumping through hoops with BI web designers. The level of incompetence here for a company that makes millions of dollars selling intellectual properties is mind numbing. The forum here took a year+ (probably 2...my brain probably deleted those files) to be usable after the current theme was in place. The Feedback Tracker is sooooooo confusing for seasoned PC users nobody wants to sign up and when they do they have problems figuring out how to get a post up to the point I have to step in and help. Pre-Alpha tester I know wouldn't even sign up because the set-up is so convoluted. Same issue here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/221100/discussions/1/1752358461546833851/ Can we get the thing working please so we can help you help us? Thank you.

Feedback Tracker...Broke Again
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in Troubleshooting
I wasn't going to post it and pulled it...but this has to be said. Someone configured Phabricator (probably you) and someone installed and configured the forum (probably you). 1. Why is the left side bar on Phabricator invaded with stuff that doesn't work or shouldn't be visible to users?? 2. Workboard and Subprojects don't work...why is it there??? You're going to tell me that can't be changed to something useful??? 3. Members shouldn't be there (like who is using that?) and shouldn't Manage be invisible to users? 4. When I'm on the DayZ page, why is there a DayZ option in the left sidebar? You got a home link to a home page on the home page. I don't need to go there because I'm already there. It's a waste and confusing becuase there are too many things to look at. I could see if it was present when navigating to other area's like having a home option in a header so you can get back home, but when you leave that page you leave that option so it's null in void. It's filler and filler is confusing because it eats up visual space...it really is a visual cacophony. 5. Why is there a members section on the right side bar empty when there is already a members link on the left side bar? I've never used Phabricator but I'm pretty sure that can be removed or filled with USEFUL INFORMATION. Useful Information is like Recent Activity or Major Bugs. This will help decrease duplicate tickets would it not? 6. Why is there a 'Watchers' section there too? Youl have power over these options, why not put something usefull there? All this useless stuff makes the entire process confusing and difficult to navigate. 7. Why is there a star in the header representing a ticket? I'm sure there are font awesome options to choose from. Am I wrong...star...only option?? 8. You're telling me there is no place for a button to post a ticket? You got the 'Watch Project' button, you're telling me that can't be a Open Ticket button??? 9. Why can't I sign up? 10. Why can't I reset my password? 11. Why am I getting the error I posted in the original post? 12. Why is there a DayZ description in the details section (middle)? Did Phabricator type that? I see you changed it slightly regarding my complaints, it's still full of non-useful words. People coming to the feedback tracker don't need to know what DayZ is about, they need instruction on how to use the site! They know what the game is about. 13. ON THIS VERY DAY THE EXACT SAME ISSUES STILL PERSIST, WHY??? 14. Can't get on again, site is jacked...AGAIN. Why is the tracker down so much all the time? Can you pass this along please? -

Feedback Tracker...Broke Again
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in Troubleshooting
I do want to help constructively, which is why I came up with a quick mockup of a more streamlined design made especially for chimps. If I spent more time I would get this super clean. I took a lot of redundant content out and wasted space like the DESCRIPTION in the body of text. It's not necessary, its cluttering up what little meat is on the bones here. When I read that my eyes shut off like I'm crunching non-physical science related calculus. I added a How To because thats why people are here...to post a bug...not learn about what DayZ is or isn't (again, incompetent design). BOLD jumps out and the lack of which is a major design flaw in BI designed literature i.e. Status Reports, Phabricator, Forum, etc. I stopped at client crashes. Bold and Caps need to be used for key features so they jump/pop out to people trying to find them. Certain colors work as well. Knowing when to make a ticket PRIVATE or not is key knowledge for server owners. I talked to Geez about this and people should know ahead of time. Geez is pretty quick, but nobody is that quick. Reworked the left and right sidebars with desirable content, icons, etc. PC or XBL players shouldn't have to get confused and should find what they're looking for easily. If I had more time I would cut that central body of text into boxes related to specific content. Good vs Bad gets a GREEN vs RED box. Make it pop! Too much text and readers go blind or get disinterested and leave. -
Feedback Tracker...Broke Again
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in Troubleshooting
This is an ongoing issue Orlok, there is no other reasonable explanation other than incompetence. I know enough about web design to recognize incompetence. Time and time again the same issues pop up. Look at the complaints here when they put in the new forum theme, basic functions didn't work for a very very long time...a very unacceptable time. If they want to not fix it, fine don't fix it. I'm tired of jumping through hoops for 5 years...enough is enough. Look at this UI... Who would ever know the star with a down pointing chevron is where one goes to open a ticket? Why not a button that says open ticket?? Where is the lingua franca here? The only reason I found out how to open a ticket was clicking every single clickable on the screen. Thats nuts! Since when does a star represnt a ticket, new post, or anything other than setting a favorite? This is not a succesful design, it's incompetence as defined...people are confused. Hell, I'm confused if I don't go there regularly. Watchers/Members are eating up the righrt sidebar...why? Left side bar is full of things that don't work...why??? Workboard, Members, and Subprojects shouldn't even be visible unless they're working for people using this. Too much garbage that doesn't do anything. Watch Project gets its own button for email notifications instead of an OPEN TICKET button? The design makes zero sense. -
Not sure where to go or what to edit. Any help is appreciated.

Or if it would actually work. I haven't deployed a CLE build but people I've talked to said it doesn't work.
