[Question] Beta Release
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
**NERD ALERT** 0.55 to 0.57 to 0.58 (and obviously 0.59 is next). I figured the builds would be skipping a number since its a thing now, but maybe thats because of the extended development cycle? -

Logic is the philosophy of mathematics. Nobody is disputing the player count is low, the dispute is your figures are off, way off. Also, didn't you guys used to work with Weyland Corporation International and got banned from RRF for harboring hackers? https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditRescueForce/comments/2u5azu/january_29_2015_our_stance_on_cheating_and_those/ -

No, I mean math and thats how the English language is used in America. UK or AU say maths. Don't you old chaps say fink when you're trying to say think anyway? :P Americans say meters, not metres---who cares. You got the point so quit being a nitprick. Lets stick to the topic at hand. You said 0.5 when the baseline (w/very little margin of error) is easily 6x more than what you said. Therefore, your MATH is OFF, WAY OFF. Also, maybe not the same people play everyday so that 3% can easily be calibrated to a higher value. -
The Psychology of Understanding Alpha
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I don't understand what you're getting at with being surprised with my post count. Can you be more specific? I don't have a banner to click. There is a link underneath the banner that goes to my YouTube channel. Also, not sure what big clown shows means. Did you mean big clown shoes? If yes, I still don't understand what you're talking about. Deduction is finding data to support an argument whereas induction or inductive reasoning is where an argument is made to explain existing data. Honestly, I really can't stand posters like yourself. Someone spells something wrong, enter grammar nazi trying to derail an intelligent conversation. This isn't an attack so don't take it the wrong way, but because the dollar is weak in your country this has an impact on how you perceive an alpha release of SA despite warnings from developers? Why would your expectations be high when the developers say your expectations should be low? You're making up your own standards based on something the developers have zero control over. Do you think thats logical or even fair for that matter? Why would you expect a "good" product when it says its not a good/finished product? -

Thanks for reminding them, I think they forgot. Good thing you mentioned it! -

The math here is off, way off. 13k peak doesn't mean that only 13k and change played all day. My guess its closer to 100K visitors. 100x? Thats interesting... -
Rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, paper beats rock?
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to Coheed_IV's topic in General Discussion
Do you now? Ever think that there are certain devs assigned to core features and certain devs that are not? Do you think the guys doing vehicle models (Chris Torchia) do player animations (Viktor Kane)? What you suggest would in fact make early access end in 2020. If everybody but core feature devs go on vacation until its done and then they bring in the 3D and Animation devs it would take a lot longer than what they're doing now. -
Books = essential Manuals for crafting, repairing etc

This is a must... There should be six versions of each model. Height: short (1) medium (2)tall (3) Weight: skinny (4)medium (5)fat (6) Currently, every male/female appears to be the same height/weight. I believe we should have direct control over this at respawn (default setting). Furthermore, as players nutrition becomes an issue over time, these attributes should change.

Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in Servers
This is in relation to our PvE project: US-3. Our goal is to redefine what PvE is and create the most immersive RP+PvE project to date. -
I think its universal... It is currently used exclusively or as one of several alphabets for more than 50 languages http://www.britannica.com/topic/Cyrillic-alphabet

Check out our latest listings!!! Our agents can't believe how quickly these properties are being scooped up.

Anyone else have a huge problem with combat?
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to Shiva_O's topic in General Discussion
How far away in meters are you when zig-zagging? If you're too close (under 30 meters imho) zig-zagging doesn't work. What do you mean by "never seem to register?" Never this build, never in any build, stable, experiment, etc? Your encounter, the net-code is pretty bad in SA. There is about a 3 second delay on when bullets hit and they're effect happens in my experience. I would wager you got him, but you died first. We see this a lot in troubleshooting issues in my community. Could have bounced bubbles too. Being in the vicinity of certain players makes me lag in combat situations. Sniping is fine on my end. I do hear there is a ballistics issue in EXP. Instant hit or 2 second delay for the hit. -
You'll get bounced out. I think they're playing with this already as I've been bounced out of certain locations sporadically in the last 2-3 builds. Stamina, sounds super cool. Soft Skills, digging it. Base Building, not so sure. Whats the 'construction kit' about? There seems to be some debate about if you build a camp piece by piece or if you build an 'improvised base' and its a pre-built joint. I'm guessing based on what Hicks said that you build it piece by piece. If you built a prefabbed joint, that would be super silly. I do dig that Hicks said he doesn't like impossible builds (six story huts). Big relief. Also, when Brina mentioned a Z space ceiling cap, that surely means you build piece by piece right. As far as Hicks issue with refreshing your base, wouldn't it make sense to add a trigger once an enclosure of walls was built? Step inside the trigger, bam...7 more days or etc. The only caveat would be if you didn't build a full perimeter of wall because a trigger couldn't be assigned because after all it is a radius. But honestly, who would build walls with out using them as a base enclosure. Doesn't make sense imo.

Now that we have the audio from the RTX 2015, discuss. I really liked the presentation on Soft Skills.

Dupe post: http://dayz.com/blog/status-report-14-august-15 -
I wonder what he'll type? "Hello, I can't think for myself and want the board to do the thinking for me. This badmin took my personal thread and put it inside another thread and that really hurt my feelings. He told me to use the search function too...how rude!"

Let's discuss about building interiors
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to cuartas's topic in General Discussion
I stopped reading right there... -
Because he's good at what he does? You don't see what they deal with on the back-end. Using the search function is YOUR responsibility, otherwise you make the mods/admins workload that much bigger. Whats the point in having two dozen threads on the same subject when there should only be one? Use your head and quit acting like this is a McDonalds drive-thru. When I was on opendayz.net it was posters like yourself that made finding an answer about as easy as finding a needle in a haystack. Despite how you were raised, not everything in life is a hand-out.

If you have to ask, no...its not worth playing.

Interaction. I have 2.6k hours and still not bored. Ran into a guy last night on our 50/50 in the tree line between Prig and Cherno. My game crashed and I kindly asked him to not kill me and we'll have a chat when I log back in. He didn't and I'll tell you why. The salt to interaction is role-play. I use 5 or so different voices and I never plan on the next voice I'll use. I just let it happen and its a bunch of fun. I do two Asian voices (Japanese & Chinese), a weary inn-keeper, a deep south American accent (civil war era-ish), a dorky kid voice and many more. Reason the guy didn't kill me (his name was Mr. Komodo in-game or so he says...I never dog sniff peoples pulse) is because of how I broke the ice and probably how I was dressed which is very civilian. After my game crashed I logged back in and there he was sitting in wait for me to return. He had a press vest on so I asked him if he worked for the press. He gave me his story about his job with the press before the infection and etc. I told him my story of how I worked for Montana Realty and had a few showings in the city I was headed to. He gave me some Winchester rounds after I politely asked him if he had any extra as I saw he was carrying one. I bid him farewell and wished him luck before we went our different ways. I felt really good after the interaction. Meeting interesting people and role-playing is a super fun experience that never gets old. You have to think outside the box and 250 hours is still bamboo status. I consider anyone with under 300 hours a bambi. Mix is up man.

With the very cool horticulture thing going on, why can't we plant tree's? I mean, if base building is going to be a viable option, we need tree's to protect the identity of our bases as well as create a true farming area with apple and pear tree's. Plus if you want to role-play Johnny Appleseed, so be it! Plant a tree today! Also, I know Torchia is working or plans to work on new tree models...why is he so top secret about it? I send monthly tweets asking for news on it. This can't really be classified can it? Its not AS50's FFS, its a dang tree.
-
I wanted to post this a week or so ago but wanted to wait on RTX before I jumped the gun. As I suspected, base building has a very obvious look to it. The problem I have with base building is this... Its hard enough to hide a tent away anywhere on the map with how tree placement was designed. When in a forest, its like a single tree, then another single tree. Very few tree-clustered areas to hide anything. There are 2-3 area's where there are some tree clusters to hide a potential base it. So what happens is someone runs through the forest and see's your tent from 1000+ meters away...for the most part anyway. Also, building near debug will get you found as well as building anywhere near heli crash sites so they area's left over are very minimal where nobody really travels. Now that we see the devs vision of bases, I mean...its going to stick out for miles and miles. Why build a base like that if its only going to get ravaged on sight? All that time crafting, collecting, etc only to have it easily found and ransacked. They really should have fought tooth and nail for the underground bases like they wanted to do. New engine should have allowed for this as when Hall said underground bases were off the menu was during Rezzed 2014 when a new engine wasn't in sight. This is why advanced base building is the much better option. Find a house and barricade that shit. Someone could run right by the house and never enter. Or, they see a house in the distance and are like, hey thats an in-game house...nothing to see here. Also, never putting all your eggs in one basket is another reason why advanced barricading will be the better option. Who wants to lose everything in one wack? Get a few houses with varying degree's of loot on different sides of the map to prevent loss of assets.
