even if x percent buy into new DAYZ thats cool. if much prefer an educated fan base than a "cod" mass. like it or not DAYZ has already done very well and will continue to do so, perhaps not as much since it's viral days, but still well. it's already a success. it will continue to be as such even if it doesn't deliver x or y be realistic, it's a game, not a way of life. initial release and subsequent additions will please many but there will always be a vocal minority who hate aspect a or b. what I think disgruntles some folk is their emotional involvement to the game that *was* and I get that. e.g. I played Elite on my ZxSpectrum and imagined how great an MP version of the game could be. for me, it turns out the reality is lacklustre. others love it though. does it mean the devs got it wrong? Same with Star Wars or Dr Who. huge Influences on my childhood but now I don't like the new stuff. perhaps it's because I'm not 7 and now 47. it's not aimed at me anymore. apologies for the tangent but DAYZ will be "what it is". don't emotionally invest in a franchise. I think DAYZ will be groovy, in time, like arma. post 1.0. but it is coming and coming soon. and it'll be ok.

Arma 3 is far from finished but they're not going to ignore the strides taken with Enfusion. Don't forget Arma *is* a very different beast and although it can benefit from the new engine, its not just a case of "slot it in" Much like VBS "looks" like Arma 2 they are very different creatures. I hugely doubt that A4 (or its equivalent) will be entirely on the RV engine it is now.

Dont forget, time does not stay still. There's a whole raft of new players out there and more are arriving each day as well as those who move on. We may not go as viral as we did before but dont think all sales are over. Not by a long shot.

Sept or Dec 2013 I forget which...

note: it's not six years. not even 5 yet.

Again, why the "sky is falling" premonitions. Why will vanilla be obsolete? Vanilla Arma isn't obsolete after all this time.

what answers have not been addressed?

who's ever said this? it's a huge conclusional leap. I've only ever seen it pushed as fact by those who are not fond of us. it's simply not correct in any shape or form.

but if I say to you. "hey, my mate works for Jim Henson. here's a chance to see the new star wars but it's just the rushes." do you take the opportunity to see something rare or wait until all the effects and soundtrack etc is in? my mate did work for Jim Henson and I got to see things not usually reserved for the public. but they were rough cuts and "flawed" this is what ea is. it's never promoted itself as anything other. tools being released early only helps the user base. there is no logical issue against that DAYZ isn't an experiment or a rnd platform it's a full game. the fbi are not involved and there's no lizard based neocron subtext. it's a game that the devs hope some will like. I feel we frequently seek an ulterior motive where there is none. no one is stealing from you, there's no agenda. it's a game being developed but one which hopes to future proof itself to give us years of fun. we know of other devs who push out games that buy into the zeitguist(?) but have no heart or soul. they havnt latsted. be cautious? yes. be constructively critical? yes. be paranoid? no. no one really knows what will happen but we do know how BI works. history has shown this. a provider of great but occasionally flawed games. but we know that with the success of the mod they've been able to invest in changes which benefit us all. it's taken time but that, to me, is with waiting for. we could have had a mod with loads of content but was hugely vulnerable to hacking and exploits. is that really what you would prefer? I think not. dislike us mods, devs or community mangers, it doesn't matter we're still gonna deliver a sound platform. not everyone will approve. but that's fine. such is life

DAYZ's form will be what we have previously seen offered up in the SR's by the devs. Then full support for a number of years. That doesnt mean that there *wont* be anymore content. Just the same as with Arma 3. It was released sans some content but that was added in soon after. You have to think along those lines. To me, 1.0 and the additional proposed content does not mean "finished", as I understand it, as there will be tweaks and bug fixes along the way etc etc . Again this doesnt mean there will not be extra content or previously undisclosed content. This isn't a prison sentence where one the development time is up we all walk away. DAYZ is now one of BI's flagship titles. They're not daft and are not going to abandon it. The only thing anyone has to realistically concern themselves about is their own expectation management. I can understand some folk get "development fatigue" but if one is feeling that emotionally tied to the game I'd advise that chap/chapess to have a good long break, it is after all only a game. As to server files being released before 1.0. Whats the issue there? Id like to se mod tools rolled out before full 1.0 too if possible. Again I cant see the issue as Id like moders and server hosts to be up to speed before the full release and ad campaigns etc. Id love to understand why people think that serverfiles and mod tools are such a terribad thing?

modders are NOT finishing the game. I don't know where folk get this idea from. all modding does is enable us to expand on the game. Same as Skyrim/fallout for example. just because some one mods in a my little pony dragon replacer, that does not mean they've finished the game for the devs. it's boggles my tiny brain.

With my gamer hat on, I think the new engine is the quantum leap both DAYZ and Arma etc required, even if some folk feel its a bit too mainstream or "consolised". The old engine simply didn't fully work for a game mode like DAYZ, as was proved by the mod and all its offshoots, no matter how fun they were. BUT the rebuild/creation of the engine being not a fully "customer facing" thing and, I think, that's why folk feel the devs are "slow" or "lazy" as they cant "see" or "feel" these major foundations . once the content starts to pour into the public builds I believe we will see folk feeling less fed up. But, to be truthful, we can never please all the customers 100pc, but thats where modding helps greatly. Most of my free HDD space is filled with Arma mods.

Lets back a little on topic (?) As wonderful as I am, its not all about me.

As to the game, don't forget it's not actually "released" yet, rather part of a programme to enable supporters to get their paws on it early. (and I believe test it free on the Xbox for a bit?) regardless, it's far from complete and there's lots of good stuff just around the corner (probably an extra bug or two also!)
-
that's where you're wrong ;) Part of my joining the mod team involved me stating that i wanted my own opinion. they chortled and said "fine! everyone does anyhoo!" now, you can believe that or not but it's true. Indeed, search through my post history here and on Steam or the other BI game's forums. Youll see I have my own independent thoughts and feels. ;)

nope, just facts and logic and realistic reasoning. I'm not blind to the "failings" of the devs, direction decisions etc . (or myself for that matter. we have a good oversight system in place to ensure we stay sane and in line. I'm sure I've made mistakes along the way, but everyone gets a chance or two) Indeed, I've been very critical of some dev decision/actions myself but I've kept my critique *constructive* and not let it get to me personally nor get personal towards them. on the whole development has and is going well. A hiccup here, a change these, a delay here, its all normal in many creative large scale projects. to take Elu's analogy, we're coming up to the service station after a huge 4800mile (not 6000) ride through a desert which has had one or two good stops, but now you're thirsty and hungry again, perhaps a bit grumpy from fatigue. As we draw up to a junction, do you: a)jump out and say "ive had enough! im walking home!" and trudge back in the blazing sun? b)stay seated in the now smoothly running bus which has a clunky armrest and the communal loo doesn't always flush first time and carry on to the destination you know is *just* over the horizon? me? I'm gonna be like Priscilla and stay on that bus and continue fabulously onward. ok, my analogy might not be perfect but like it or not the game is almost here. Just like Arma on release, not jam packed with every conceivable desire but a full, playable game and a solid foundation for the modders who can tweak it to taste. bar an "act of god" it's all gonna be fine. Will it please everyone? nope. Will it please most folk? most probably. just like any game.

I didnt dismiss anyone :) If I had, I wouldnt have written a long reply.

Check the SR's. :)

PC guy here :) Im as cool as a cucumber about development.

Exactly, you're frustrated. But whose fault is that? The warnings on Steam and when you play were there from the start. I bought into Interstellar Marines ages ago. Its development is now glacial as there's only 1 dev now working on it and some volunteers. Do I get angry? No. do I get frustrated? No. Am I a bit *sad* that i wasted 20 odd quid (or however much it was)? No, because I *knew* that this was a possibility. Mildly disappointed? Yes. Angry? No. As to the N.A. thing, well that's nonsense. We've an International team here, were all pretty much on the same page when it come to dealing with Joe/Jantet Average. Believe it or not the customer isn't always right. As to middle age? i'm not far off 50. I don't see things your way. The devs have communicated what's going on throughout development (at times better than others) but in recent years have given us the Trello, the SR's as well as tweets, friendface etc etc etc. All the info is there, we know the end of ALPHA is in sight. Just hold on a little longer, in the next few months the "content" patch will hit.

It will be finished. Im sorry, but EA is a long old haul and nothing is guaranteed. Tester? No not really but obviously we can gather data from the player base. Supporter? Absolutely. Just as I am. I've also been here a long while and have put a little bit of effort in to the community over the development. I don't expect anything back. I expect development to be finished when it's finished. There are other games I've bought in EA and Ive not touched them for years. As to banning you, if you've had enough, why not go do something else for a bit and come back later? Getting so angry to wish to be banned seems like cutting of your nose to spite your face.

Early Access games are not for everyone which is why we actively warn folk and even advise them NOT to buy the game regularly. it's for supporters not for casual players imho.
-
we're getting a little off topic, guys n gals. we're not going to solve global issues here so let's get back to DAYZ.
-
Hello there Keep away from Early Access games. Buy them when they're complete. Rgds LoK
