Temperature system either broken or pointless
OrLoK replied to Shag's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello there, An anti camp mechanism? hmmm. Whilst i'm no sniper I've always thought that camping is a valuable tool to use in certain occasions, especially in arma etc. I don't like the thought of not being able to camp if i need to. Or would it only affect you in certain conditions ie night/rain/etc? Im all for it if it's a survival/exposure thing but if it's purely anti camp then I'll be a bit non plussed. I'm usually moving to much for my core temp to drop regardless but it would be nice to know if i can be penalised for a gamestance. Rgds LoK -
Anyone in Cherno? The Good Old Dayz.
OrLoK replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hullo there Aimed at me? If so, you couldn't be more wrong. Lone wolfing doesn't equate to banditry. If that wasn't aimed at me, then apologies, I'm just paranoid due to the playerbase... rgds LoK -
Hello, Is there a question/point here or are you just relaying your story? Rgds LoK Edit: I see it's just a story. As with the others torches can be useful but there is a risk involved in using them. L

A definitive end-game discussion. Experiences & Opinions.
OrLoK replied to Goldstein (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello there I regularly hit my "endgame" ceiling once I have the average kit that can enable me to survive esentially *forever*. Like the OP "l33t" kit is nice but not of a high import to me. Then it's just a case of avoiding players and zeds and restocking as one goes along. with the advent of KOS becoming the norm and global chat being dismissed I now tend to Lonewolf as I don't trust anyone. I'm not paranoid, it's just that everyone wants to kill me... It would be nice if there was some kind of construction routine built in to enable folk to woodcraft etc as this might tempt folk towards a virtual economy which could balance up the gameplay without forcing anyone down a specific path. Bandits could still be bandits and carebears could be carebears and the rest of us could carry on as normal. Combat / or the threat of it would still be key, but at least there could be a framework to hang it on whilst at the moment there is little incentive for many players to do anything other than KOS. rgds LoK -
What Do You Think Of The Current Loot System?
OrLoK replied to Yeung-Jin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello there Alpha... Only joking. I too, agree that the loot system is far from perfect, but successive builds seem to be addressing this. There should be random loot in houses but set (with a random element) loot lists for Hospitals/garages/supermarkets etc that represent the equip usually found in those environs. I think, however, it's done certain places will be camped as the user base will soon find out where the "l33t" stuff is. Rgds LoK -
Whats you standard gear to carry?
OrLoK replied to Stewart (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello there Bandages are the key must have and really the only item I keep a close track of, I usually have 3 at anyone time in my active Inventory. After that, a sidearm of *any* type. Preferably a Colt 1911, but it purely depends on what ammo I find. A main weapon will either be an axe due to sound (or lack of) or again whichever weapon has easy to find ammo. Lastly its a balance of food/medical supplies. Obviously Items that fill the lower inventory bar ie.compass, watch, knife, matches etc are must-haves. (not including GPS/Map/compass etc but more the tools) High end weaponry, whilst nice isn't of a high import for me. Rgds LoK -
Hello there This is fortunately a fairly rare happening and can happen when you get stuck between 2 hitboxes, I can usually get myself unstuck by proning and "climbing over", so do try that. Also in future avoid climbing on the Rock meshes as they *can* be buggy. atm there's no "relocate" or "stuck" function in game so I hope you make it out. Alternatively get a mate to put you out of your misery, ask him/her to look after your stuff until you can reach him/her and collect your equipment. Rgds LoK

hello there Flames that appear and disappear of a massive size are *usually* a sign someone using naughty scripts (they're NOT hackers just think they are) on the server. They've been around for years, try to stick to Battleye enabled servers or servers with live admins. Rgds LoK

War on banditry!!! Join the fight!!!
OrLoK replied to Mungaloid's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello there I understand the aspect Rocket is trying to achieve with making the world self policing, but as death isn't *real* the greifers will always, always win. I'd love to be proved wrong though. Rgds LoK -
Anyone in Cherno? The Good Old Dayz.
OrLoK replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello, I too miss the comeraderie of the early days (no pun intended). Global chat did help the game feel more *alive*, especially as I solo exclusively. I also miss the bandit skin as it was a indicator that the player in question had killed, it didn't necesarially mean they were a bandit. lastly nice LoB quote. Rgds LoK -
So anyone here NOT shoot at first sight?
OrLoK replied to Reidlos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hullo again, I also think that people KOS as it's easier to loot someone and steal their equipment rather than go to the effort of finding their own kit. rgds LoK -
So anyone here NOT shoot at first sight?
OrLoK replied to Reidlos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello there I personally only shoot if I feel threatened. If you leave me alone I will leave you alone. Although, once I thought I saw two chaps with NVGs stalking me near a hospital, so I engaged and after the fight realised i mistook their forage caps for NVG's. I felt rather bad about that, but the recent culture has made me somewhat twitchy. On the whole I wont KOS, even if another player has great kit. Rgds LoK -
Hello there Underground environments atm don't exist in A2's version of the engine, but they do exist in VBS2 which uses *esentially* the Arma1 engine, both of which are powered by the RV engine. So, theoretically it seems having physical underground bunkers for DAYZ is possible. I just hope they implement a better movement system as has been modded for A2 as indoor movement in the vanilla game is poor to say the least. Rgds Lok

Hello there IMHO you made the better choice with the Bizon. Just watch that ammo count. rgds LoK

DayZ and Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead + PMC
OrLoK replied to DayZHunter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello there It's best not to run DAYZ when playing the regular campaign and user missions as it does replace the Civs with zeds, although they don't aggro. Personally I havn't noticed any other issues. If playing online, having the DAYZ mod loaded may inhibit the amount of servers available for you to join. Rgds LoK -
Hello there It may be well known to many folk, but this chap/chapess didn't know. One has to ask questions to find things out. I'd rather someone ask a perceived "silly" question than go on being ignorant. rgds LoK

Hello there, For me it seemed to vary from server to server (not been able to connect for weeks). Sometimes they were plentiful and sometimes less so. I usually check in open fields away from roads and airstrips etc. I also have encountered a lone chicken in towns. There is an ability to blacklist areas for animal spawn in arma so perhaps you've had the mix of looking in wrong areas and low spawns. rgds LoK

Is the PMC DLC worth it for the higher res textures?
OrLoK replied to SG-17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello there Buy the DLC *just* for the textures? No. Buy it to have all the added lovelyness and PMC content/campaign/missions in Arma2? Definitely. Buy it to support the Devs of A2? Absolutely. Then one day you might find out the core joys of A2 and the rest of the massive modding community. Get the other DLC's too IHMO and don't forget the upcoming one. For me the DLC's have easily been worth the small price for the hours i've spent playing with them. Get them. get them soon. rgds LoK -
Hello there I also think yes, Don't forget us old folk too, so, all age ranges/sexes/creeds and colours should be included. Will they be? I doubt it. Interesting debate though. rgds LoK

Hello there What are your graphic settings umm...set at? Do you use any command line params? Do you use in game AA or the config fxaa etc? Are you running the beta patch or regular A2oa? rgds LoK
-
Hello there best place to look at the beginning is HERE That's all the recognised start up params. Essential for better performance IMHO. rgds LoK

Hello there This is a really subjective issue. I cannot tell anyone what is a "good" framerate or decent "fps" Also fps in the RV engine can change drastically from one area to another or dependent on what AI processing is happening (although DAYZ is far lighter than std Arma2 missions on the whole) The RV engine (Arma2's/Dayz's) is notorious in bringing high end systems to their knees when set to "high" levels, so although folk may be able to play BF3/Skyrim/etc on "high" this is not equateable to the RV engine. I have an average system (i7quad 2.8 12gb ram 460gtx) and I have to really balance my settings to hit 20-25 fps in A2. Although it's a year or two old i still think $300 wont get a system of an equal spec (unless second hand?). My advice would be to buy good quality components bit by bit and build up your machine over time or stuff that cash in the bank and wait until you have enough to buy a new system. I'm sorry for the bad news. I'm currently unemployed so I feel your lack of cash pain. rgds LoK PS be aware the engine is *very* processor hungry compared to other games.
