Hello there Being a decent Server admin is no easy task. It takes time and effort and imagination and a keen eye. If you want to throw up a server and have lulz and expect folk to visit just because its there, then its probably best not to bother. Expect to fund it yourself. Donations are a brucey bonus and only come after one has proved to admin a safe stable environment. Prior planning is important and make a server that appeals to you. If you have good ideas then likeminded folk will gravitate towards you. Dot just go for a server that appeals to the masses, there#s already loads and many that will be doing it better than you. Unless you have something new to bring to the table that is. Dont expect instant fame, Lambo's and laydeez is the point im trying to make. Rgds LoK

Hello there I too am a fan of PG stuff and am amazed we dont have more PG worlds/dungeons to roam around in. There's a few out there, but not many of note/originality. Perhaps this best of in a thread of its own? Rgds LoK

Hello there Hmmmmm. Rules. Interesting. I think of a forum or server as an analogy to a bar/pub. Each has their individual rules (written and unwritten) and if one wishes to play/drink/post etc at those places then one has to obey those rules regardless of their "stupidity" in one's or one's peers eyes. For eg if I drink in a pub which tolerates, say for example, prostitution, then although that pub's behaviour might go against my personal ethics, Im not going to complain to the landlord about it, Im just going to find a nicer pub. Or if I like other aspects of the pub that I dont want to give up then I must tolerate that which I dont like and see if I can cope. Its not always an easy balance and things are not always clear cut and black and white. When it comes to forums, there is a belief somehow that freedom of speech exists. This is not correct. It may seem unfair but on forums like this we are incredibly lax with what we allow, but there are certain subjects which are not tolerated for one reason or another, even though it may seem unfair, especially if deemed unjust. There is method in our madness though and if one has an issue feel free to PM a blue or green mod. As to how DAYZ is played, if its on a private server then the rules are up to the individual Server Admin. It has nothing to do with "us" or the "Mod" or "how it should be played" It's their rules. Abide by them or leave. There's enough out there to cater for most. Rules may seem silly or unfair, but on the whole there#s always a reason for them being in place. If one wants to change the rules there are sensible ways to achieve this. It just takes a bit of thought. Rgds LoK -
Hello there You'll be able to assist when its publicly released with feedback and bug reports. Rgds LoK

Hello there If one takes into account that it is a TRUE Alpha (or whatever its status on release) then folk should not be too disappointed. Research is key. Watch those vids, read those reviews. Be patient, dont just throw your cash at the screen and expect Crysis 4. A vast amount of work has been done, but IMHO the game, whilst not in its infancy, is definitely an angsty late teenager. (Like Matt) I cant wait for a public release, but I know what to expect. Rgds LoK

Hello there Also remember, if your being shot over any distance youll probably be dead before the sound of the round gets to you. Sound travels slowly compared to light and bullets. Muzzle flash and dust are difficult to get "right" in game, it would be nice if they cracked it. Rgds LoK -
Hello there "evil" No. A bit mean and two faced? Perhaps. In your situation I would have just shot them straight off or attempted to wound and get my gear back. I cant run around with someone I know Im going to shoot. I tend to treat others as I would like to be treated. However, you are a bandit now. Ands if I see you in game with that name dont expect me to trust you. :) Rgds LoK

Back after ~1.5 years, how is DayZ?

And what about the game? *chortle* L -
Hello there Firstly, excellent gif. I especially liked the initial "explosion". Subtle. Superb. Secondly, just because there's lots of testers on, does not mean anything is imminent. Manage those expectations. Thats not to say its not imminent either. Damn, its difficult not to write anything that cant be taken incorrectly. Look, ummm errr just be patient, ok? Rgds LoK

Hello there Whilst I may lack the eloquence of Gwraspe, his points are valid. There are still instances of twattish script kiddies, but they are uncommon and if one chooses the correct sever then theyre almost unknown. There's a vast amount of mods and maps available (see my sig for a rundown of some) but TBH I prefer vanilla as, for me, any derivative will need a long time to mature/bug fix and I want to separate the wheat from the chaff. There's a whole new world outthere for you go explore. Go for it! Rgds LoK -

Petition to Remove Payday Mask

Hello there Really? Its an item of equipment. Not a game breaking mechanic. Am I a fan of it? No. Will I just ignore it in game, unless it has a specific task? Yes. I suggest others do the same. Also, OP if you really are not bothered, then why start a thread on it? Surely those who really feel its a "problem" are motivated enough then theyll do it themselves? Hopefully Ive just been "trolled", Im not sure though. Rgds LoK -
OK guys, lets disembark from the hype train and get back OT. :)

Hello there I agree, in game having no mic is a disadvantage, but thats the same with any MP game. If, however they managed to get a decent commo system in for gestures and perhaps common phrases that would stifle those who TS for eg and would assist those unable to use a mic. Interesting point though. Rgds LoK

Hello there I'd like to remind everyone of this little but important detail. Re reading this part will save many folk a lot of inconvenience and mods a lot of work. Rgds LoK

Hello there Ahh, the "must have Mic" rears its ugly head once more. Remember there are many, although it may not be the majority, who cannot or are unable to use a mic. I'd like to see a good system of communication in game to suit both mic and non mic users. Rgds LoK

Hello there What we do have to remember is that the interweb, as a rule, will macro analyse every little bit of info released. So whilst I think many are over reacting, I can see their point, even if it is incorrect. A simple solution is to tone down the appearances of the masks in future vids/pics released to the public. I do like the fact that the community discusses issues and problems they can foresee, but on the whole a mask or two isnt going to be game breaking. This is starting to feel like cangate all over again. Rgds LoK -
Hello there The only issue I see is the skin tone, which is really hard to get correct given the changing lighting and "skin" system that's in place. What were you chaps expecting? (honest question not sarcasm) Also remember still shots are never representative of how the game "feels". Here's a pic ive been working on, I can never get the damn skinn to render with the correct "translucency" I have the luxury of messing around with filters etc, and i still cant get it spot on. Now. these chaps are working within the confines of an existing, albeit modifiable realtime engine and are taking "pictures" on the fly with no touching up afterwards. I see OP's point, but respectfully disagree and whilst the "avatars" may not be up there with the latest AAA tech demo, they are absolutely fine when playing. Rgds LoK

Dean - Sort it out man. Losing your way
OrLoK replied to Thegoon84's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello there I dont really have a major issue with masks, but from an outsiders perspective, I can understand why some folk are feeling (or assuming) its warz like. Fortunately they are not correct in their worries, but I can see why they are perturbed. All I can say, is that from my limited knowledge, no matter the impression you get from the screenshots, the masks are not a major "thing". This seems to be the usual "jump on a macro point and create a mountain out of a mole hill" With the "face" placeholder for an object, just think of all the varied (and realistic) coverings that could be created? Im imagining things like those painter and decorator masks one sees and the recent riots in Thailand for example or a simple scarf, think of the possibilities. Would one not prefer a really customisable avatar ingame compared to the standard civvie model where we all look identical? As R points out, folk will run around in their pants being silly. Ive done it myself, and trolls will troll. Id rather that we had freedom to wear what we like and the freedom to not wear what we dont like than have all the same style. I think the main reality jar/shock is that one particular mask is so identifiable as being from another game. Thats the one I have a tiny, tiny, wee, small and miniscule issue with on a personal level, but tbh I dont really give a poo, it wont affect my enjoyment of the game. I can see the conclusions folk are jumping to, but as far as Im aware theres no need to panic. Rgds LoK PS R, I want the horse heads!
