Hello there I dont see the video as completely staged. Im sure elements may well have been such as the placement of the "groups" and the scaring off of the deer. One can emulate this scenario (roughly) in Arma2/3 in the editor. The end result will be similar but it will never play out in the same way 100 percent. I've worked on several Alpha/Beta "promo" videos from different games to know how they are generally done (IMHO) and this one doesnt look like a complete fabrication. I think depending on the AI factors in play that this is pretty much the behaviour we will see on a day to day basis of player/Animal interaction. Look at games like Skyrim (with mods) one can see quite an interesting ecosystem at work with their wildlife and some semi realistic behaviours as well. I think this is all well within the AI teams capabilities. Im really interested to see more of their work as an SP kinda guy Id like to see more of a PvE experience when modding hits and their stuff is key to that experience. Rdgs LoK

[Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization

You *know* exactly what I mean. behave and get back on topic. L -
Hello there Wolves do indeed get a bad press. Dogs are far nastier, Ive encountered in real life angry feral dogs and they do not give a plop about us humans. Although based in reality we have to remember that this is a game and just like the English in movies, we are not in reality always the bad guy. Brfore that it was the South Africans then the Russians etc ad nauseum. I dont have an issue with wolves being an enemy, perhaps the virus has affected them too in a different vector and made them more aggressive? But, I do feel sorry for poor wolfy in real life. Naughty devs. Rdgs LoK

[Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization
OrLoK replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Hello there I too am generally "against" monetization but if one bothers to actually look into what BI are/will be doing there is little to no P2W and there are built in safeguards to stop/deter exploitation. The worst I can imagine is a shirt with a clan logo on it, yes it might protect one against exposure but its hardly P2W. Dont forget that the legit servers will have to be approved and any other servers exploiting the system will be dealt with. I think there's too much "knee jerk" hate and not enough comprehension on this issue. Rdgs LoK -
[Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization
OrLoK replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Hello there Very few (if any) vanilla items do not affect gameplay. This is for modded stuff and for post release to ensure there's no P2W. Rdgs LoK -

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
OrLoK replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello there For some reason I can't find the old 1st vs 3rd thread, so I can't merge this. So, it stays for now. This is an emotive subject, so keep it well mannered and we won't have to hand out any infraction points. Remember: attack the argument not the person. Rdgs LoK -
Hello there It sounds like you have been kicked for having CE open. Its not a Battleye Global Ban and those admins *should* be able to fix it. Whether they want to is another thing. Rgds LoK

Hello there One of the original main issues with the perception the glut of *easy* modded servers was a less than perfect browser. This is planned to be addressed. I rarely played modded servers but im all for modding as a thing. If enough people want to play Vanilla then there will be servers to cater for them. This time round it will be easier for folk to find them. I understand your worries but I personally am not concerned. Rgds LoK

Play nice guys. L

Hello there BI neither issue or administrate BE bans. You're shouting at the wrong people. http://www.battleye.com/support.html Rgds LoK PS don't shout at them, read their FAQ.

Leg holster for handgun usable with any form of full length pants
OrLoK replied to Chris Kyle's topic in Suggestions
Hello there Believe what you want. you are wrong. LMG's and Launchers do have their place, which is why they are used so much in real life. You talk about the "garbage gunplay mechanics" which baffles me as it was good enough for the Arma series at its most basic and we know the player controller may well have a large impact on it. Also, dont think the entire team is creating these assets so it's a minimal drain on dev resources (if at all). Back on topic, I too would like to see a leg holster. if it's good enough for Solo, its good enough for me. Rdgs LoK -
Hello there Can you use spoiler tags to break up the sections? the post is just tooo darn long. Other than that, as I've been saying in backstage chat, this is a good general "Non Official" primer. Good stuff. Rgds LoK

Hello there Please dont think im having a go at you, rather im tackling a common misconception! I dont think another EA would be the solution , however there are marketing techniques that could easily be used to increase the player base. Also, note how much BI marketing there has been about DAYZ to date. Almost none. We really are early days yet (no pun intended). I expect player numbers to jump up, not to the "viral" levels but still to increase at certain points. Also, TBH other "popular" MP games I play dont appear to have great player numbers either but they are still going strong. Rdgs LoK

Hello there You seem to keep coming back to this monetary "if they dont sell xx donughts a day they cant operate as a business." argument. This would be correct if it were a simple retail outlet. But that's not how game dev works. There are multiple revenue streams, not only for "just" the existing game. Let's be hypothetical here. Just say the devs don't finish the game, what would the effect be on BI as a business? Have a think about that. Or, if for example, a third of gamers are burned out, how many does that leave? DAYZ *will* be finished. It would be such a faux pas for BI not to finish it, even if its only you, me and BI's pet goldfish still playing. BI are not daft. They know player trends, they've worked with them before. This isnt just 4 guys in a bedroom. Do you not think they've conducted risk analysis and future projections for 3,5,7 year plans etc etc? I completely understand your point, but its the wrong argument and not applicable in this case although it's one that's easy to grasp onto. Its similar to "everyone who's ever eaten bread has die therefore bread is a killer", obviously not as absurd but just as incomparable. Also, its not "simply" a modification of the engine and the changes are a HUGE part of the project. Wait until you have your hands on the new controller etc. TBH I'll never convince you. Time will prove one of us right but I will be literally flabberghasted if DAYZ ceased development due to player numbers. Rdgs LoK

Hello there I think the devs *will* revisit this and indeed interaction in general. Not that this thread doesnt have worth, but I do think it will be addressed. if not we have this thread ready for the modders rgds LoK

hello there if you take another look at my post you will see the caveats I gave about "dropping" stuff on to existing engines and I didnt belittle modders either. Im a modder, I have used the unreal engine in anger. I know the work that goes into even my small works with it, but its still using an existing framework on which to "drop" or add my content on to with a little scripting. I never said it was "easy" and didnt take skill, but it isnt as hard as building the engine "as well" as adding ones own content (be it assets or code) As to burning out, well perhaps you have, I certainly haven't. Nor are many others with far more time ingame than I. Ive said before the numbers most likely will not get to the viral stage we had, but that's just fine. As to your "money all gone/spent/no more money to be made" vs bothering to make the game, well that's not how things work. The expectation of the gaming community as well as the press is still there, It wouldnt look good for BI *not* to finish the game, not that im implying thats the only reason why, rather im stating that you are being a little too simplistic with your analysis. if we really want to boil things down one could say "all games are simply points of light that are displayed when certain conditions are met, why would anyone pay for that?". it may be "true" but it's not the whole of it. Hello there Mod hat off Unfortunately, the issue isn't that "the game shouldn't have been released in Alpha" or "person/s X or Y messed up and Rocket was optimazing" it's that people, yes many of the general public, simply don't realise how long making a full game takes. I'm not talking about dropping stuff onto Unreal or Crytek or Unity, Im talking about really making a game *and* re engineering the "engine" Your average Joe consumer or consumeress isn't interested in real dev, they just want a game that can be "played" and expect patches to fix "stuff" or add new "things" I've often stated that it's unfortunate that the game plays so well now as it leads people to believe that this is "it" It may seem unfair to deflect back on to the customer but it's not all their fault. Other game titles often do a "Alpha" or "Beta" exclusive access for cash which really isn't either of those two things (perhaps very late stage Beta) and this also leads many to think they *know* what taking participation in these things is like whereas they've simply been part of a marketing ploy. Game dev isn't a speedy thing especially when tied into a moderately sized company. It can often seem like 2 guys in their bedroom can bring out superb games and mods in uber quick time, but they don't have the constraints or standards that larger companies have. There's a brilliant mod out for one of my favourite games which is very popular, but because it's a mod it doesn't have to worry about issues such as overly "heavy" meshes killing FPS or game breaking bugs like "proper" companies do. If it were built by BI it would take time to polish to get to the correct standard (both visually and performance wise) and possibly edits of content to ensure it performed well on the majority of systems. But because it's a mod, people are far more tolerant of it (rightly so) but when argumentative folk equate mods like it and others to DAYZ the comparison just isn't there. Same with many Cryteck/Unreal/Unity games. Most of these simply "plonk on" to the existing "engine" (a vast simplification I know, but reasonable for this debate) only a few drill down into the real gubbins and very few make such vast changes as the devs have done to the RV engine. But that is what Cryteck/Unreal/Unity are for, they're sold as a way to get one's stuff out there with a minimum of fuss. Its like buying an off the rack suit and having the shop's tailor service take an inch off the trouser leg. Brilliant, it's a nice new suit and it fits. But its not comparable to a fully tailored suit that's made to measure. Or a burger from a fast food restaurant, tasty and quick and you can ask for no tomatoes, but it's never going to be as well made as a properly cooked restaurant in house burger. it doesn't mean one is bad or doesn't have merit or that you can't prefer the simpler version, they're just not truly comparable to each other. I dont think BI are perfect and I've not always initially agreed with some design directions, but I think the team is incredibly talented and hard working and that they are more than capable of making DAYZ into what most of us want it to be (it will never please everyone). What we have to do is *wait*. A modicum of research will give the estimated ETA's for various stages the team plan to hit and we *still* have a long way to go, regardless of whether we are in Alpha, Beta or whatever label one wants to arbitrarily assign. (Im of the personal belief that folk assign way too much to these labels and that whilst a good guide to progress, cannot be seen as the definitive Word of God. Development is fluid.) Now, as a caveat, things *can* go wrong. People can make mistakes or companies wrong choices, but we all *know* that don't we? I hold the devs to a high standard but don't think that they or BI are infallible. But what I do know is that BI have a great track record when it comes to the Arma Series (warts and all), this fact and the press attention focused on DAYZ (dont forget that this game is seen as a major milestone for the genre) implies (infers?) to me that the team has what it takes to pump out a more than decent game. They wouldn't have tackled it if they didn't believe that they were capable. Lastly, there is that one in a million chance that due to unforeseen circumstances that development will stop, but its a tiny, tiny, tiny wee smidgen of a chance and the press would have heard something if the company were in rocky waters and we all know how the press likes a failure story, but there are none are there? Nor are there any mainstream stories about slow or incompetent development. For me, using logic, this leads me to think that the dev process is chugging away nicely. There will always be backseat devs and detractors (as there are in any game) but one has to wonder why these folk spend so much time "waging war" with what is essentially just a game. And a fairly cheap one at this stage. Games I dislike or find flawed I leave em either entirely or until I can mod them. I dont form alts to troll their forums or make sweary videos for easy subs or create "clubs" dedicated to destroying a games reputation. Very odd behaviour if you ask me. That's not to say "everyone" who has an issue is a loon, of course not. Im just mentioning some of our more "radical" ...people. I can fully understand though as a normal guy or gal that development can *seem* slow but just as the world can seem flat, it simply isnt. if you cant hack the "slow" pace, go play something else and come back once we are done, I bet most will be more than happy. Ive done this myself with Elite Dangerous and Ive been waiting 25 years for it and even after it's release its taken a year to mature and will only really be right, for me, in another 6 months or so. In the meantime we live in splendid times for both affordable and AAA titles there's lots of stuff to occupy us whilst we wait, I dont play DAYZ much myself. I want to keep it fresh for launch. Hello there There is no "freedom of speech" here. You are a guest. behave appropriately. Alluding mods being "Nazis" is just one part of why your post was removed. Feel free to give critique but do it constructively and like a grown up. Carry on. Rdgs LoK

Hello there Some of you are posting in a way that's going to get you in trouble. You know who you are. Reign it in a tad if you wish to continue to post. As to player numbers on the decline. Absolutely expected. Nothing to worry about. All the claims of "dead" game etc etc are ill informed but there's no point explaining the reasoning as it wont be taken in. Anyhoo, be critical if you wish but make it constructive and dont be rude about others or their work etc. Rdgs LoK

A little question .. why MP5 and UMP and not Bizon SMG ?
OrLoK replied to kataro's topic in General Discussion
Hello there Im a fan of the Bizon and hope to se it. But as to why, there is a great post elsewhere by the devs explaining why we have the weapons we have and although it seems counter intuitive it is more "realistic" than one expects. Rdgs LoK -
Damn BI. *ALL* their fault.
