Brainstorm a DAYZ TvT idea with me (originally BrianStorm)
OrLoK posted a topic in General Discussion
Hello there Ive been thinking about an idea for a gamemode for DAYZ recently to give the game more purpose. Help me flesh it out. Here's the basic premise, but I have many other ideas etc. 2 player teams. A. Player controlled Survivors B. Player controlled Infected Masters The infected Masters differ from the normal infected as hey are left with more intelligence than the regular "zed" plus the have the ability to summon over a distance other AI infected via a "howl" They are less susceptible to damage than a normal player but are susceptible to being K.O.'d/limb damage but will also have some regenerative powers when close to another Master. Think of Arma 2 resuscitation etc. As to a Survivor player goal, it will be to collect a set amount of supplies as well as getting a heli up and running. This means that although one may get a heli up one will still need to collect a set number of items (say for example info on the infected/ exit flight codes from helicrashes to avoid being shot down by those keeping the island under quarantine). Zombie goal will be to eliminate all survivors. Survivors have a set number of lives depending on player numbers per "round" up to a maximum of the player slots available. So 1 player on a 32 player server gets 32 lives and 32 players would get 1 life until they are used up. First come first served. Id like the Infected Masters to be able to detect recent player activity, possibly by some distance based glow on moved items/doors etc (but not on the players themselves) perhaps representing scent left by exploring Survivors. This keeps the survivors moving to a degree as their "tracks" (not all but some) will be detectable. Also perhaps some psychic link tween the AI infected and the Masters when many AI are killed. A disturbance in the Infected "force" if you will. The reasoning behind this idea is that game modes like wasteland etc are very popular and for those not satisfied with the sandboxyness of the game will have a direction to go and a "point" to the game. Im not imagining these rounds to be quick like KotH or Battle Royale but not as long as a normal DAYZ successful character either. I know there are logic holes and flaws in this brief summation, lets think how to overcome them. Thoughts? Ideas? Rgds LoK -

Hello there There are very simple ways to avoid most team kills, its a low priority issue IMHO. As to trolls, well there's always going to be a way to be a dick if one wants to be but thats not an issue im concerned about at this stage. Rdgs LoK -

Hello there Honestly, Im not being hostile, I promise! Let's put it down to the language barrier. But even if I came up with idea X or Y the devs are unlikely at this stage to alter their projected path. Business just doesn't work like that (on the whole). But we cannot stop all art and ideas in case the dev's get sidetracked, it's simply unworkable! We'd have to lock the devs away 24/7/365 in a cupboard. Hmmm, perhaps that's not a bad idea... Really, dont worry about this thread delaying the devs. Rdgs LoK -

Hello there NOPE! :) No problems only opportunities! Its always easy to find a problem but much more satisfying to come up with a solution! A solution to large Map size this is letting the Infected Masters be able to track (not too closely) the movements of Survivors, so no matter how huge the map there's always some impetus to be on the move to a degree or if one has a "base" then not to perform certain actions which will attract Masters or signal their location. Hello There Dont be a negative Nancy. How is this going to delay development? Rgds LoK -
Hello there AFAIK the whole avatar controller will be overhauled and (I assume) inertia etc will be a part of it. it's definitely something the devs will have taken on board but whether its "fixed" only time will tell. Anyone remember when you could run faster diagonally rather than straight forward? Avatar control is a vitally important thing IMHO and is a bit of a stumbling block from putting DAYZ and Arma in their rightful gaming position (on top of everything else!) and is an issue that is often commented on both by players and press. If the devs can pull off a good compromise tween the existing control and the traditional FPS controller it will be an ENORMOUS coup for DAYZ and BI. Rgds LoK

Why would they do that? Why is it "the right thing"? L

Hello there When you *do* post assertions which are untrue you will be challenged on them. if not by me then by someone else. This is not some personal attack on you rather on your "facts". You can be critical if you wish but you must expect some debate about your stance, again nothing wrong with that. Healthy debate is great. My issue is you steer off from facts and go into insults and slurs as well as asserting things that simply are not correct and could be confirmed with a modicum of Googling. Now, if you had an opinion on a game mechanic and why you liked/disliked it then thats fine and you could try to convince me otherwise and I you, or we could both agree to disagree. It's nothing to do with me being a staff member its about facts. Again terms like "This whole "buying a game on the pre-tense that it will be finished eventually" thing" and "JUST BECAUSE its not blind optimistic, positive reinforcement is hilarious" just dont help your case as a)Early Access is clearly marked and disclaimers tell one not to purchase unless one is sure about supporting development etc and b. who wants blind fanboi ism, we certainly dont. Its unhealthy. Disagreeing with you is not being blind or positive reinforcement its simply disagreeing with you. And where is see a factual error espoused as truth by anyone I will correct that. You see it's things like this which dont help your credibility. L

hello there Firstly i *have* been openly critical of some development design decisions in the past, the thing is I did it without being rude and using facts as I saw them rightly or wrongly and I attempted to educate myself. Secondly, there are other games in a very similar position and they're moving through development just fine. see Miscreated for example. Thirdly, Alpha. As we are in development elements *will* be broken missing etc Zeds/infected are no exception to this. If a FM in a sim is broken in alpha then although it might be annoying it's more than expected. You *can* express your displeasure if you wish, we encourage constructive criticism but using facts to back up your argument is key. Hardly ridiculous. Rgds LoK

Hello there Waaaaayyyyyy off topic. Also, personal insults will not be tolerated even if it is "hip and groovy" street slang. I *know* its the internet but just try to be pleasant to each other while you are in these forums. Back on topic, please. Rgds LoK

Hello there I wouldnt buy a new rig *just* for DAYZ, especially at this stage, its just far too incomplete. But I suppose it depends on one's disposable income. Rgds LoK

Hello there Note in this thread a member I assisted a day or so ago reported a bunch of servers and successfully had them taken down etc. Keep reporting in the correct way. Rdgs LoK -
Let's stick to pies in this thread, shall we? Specifically Apple. L

Hello there I think, "why" is a better question. I don't disagree, but give us your "workings" Rdgs LoK

Hello there I sense some angst towards the possible "biased" moderation on these forums. I, for one, don't wholly agree with that. I personally am happy to let those with legitimate concerns and complaints air their views, but they have to be prepared to accept counter argument. We only yard/hide threads that deserve it. If you think otherwise then PM a mod and we'll discuss it. I won't tolerate insults or abusive behavior be it from a "fanboi" or a "hater" or anyone else. If you can be bothered to trawl through my earlier posts you'll find that I have been openly critical of some design decisions in the past but I didn't rant and rave or make sly insinuations about "shady practices","lazy devs" etc ad nauseum. You can be a critic here and remain for as long as one wants. Its how one does it that counts. As to Steam, well their review system is lacklustre to say the least as are their built in mod tools (or the one's we are currently allowed access to). Only use steam reviews as an indicator, not your sole point of reviews. Rdgs LoK

[Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization
OrLoK replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Hello there Do you think this will only happen because the devs have implemented these rules? If people are going to sell stuff, they don't feel they *need* dev permission. What this does is put in place a clear ruleset to halt that kind of behavior. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, but I expect rules to be far tighter (enforced) once the game launches. I wouldnt compare the mod to the SA. Different beasts entirely. Rdgs LoK
