.... Now, everyone will set up camp at my favourite fishing hole. ;P

I don't think DayZ zombies are classical undead zombies, I believe they are just infected people who are referred to as zombies.

I switch a lot, haven't lost a character yet.

As soon as I spawn a new character, I head in-land to the smaller towns. I usually find everything I need within 15-30 minutes.

Seriously do something to the blood loss.......
Meekalew replied to Zjasuu's topic in General Discussion
So, you're saying you initiated combat without having the proper medical supplies on hand? I wouldn't engage in any sort of combat if I didn't have bandages on hand, far too risky. Though, I actually understand what you're saying; why the hell can't we make bandages from pants??? -
You need the Holy Hand Grenade to kill one. It's an epic side quest.

To the person who posts below me, I saw you die in this manner: You saw someone being chased into a building by a couple zombies, you ran to help them (maybe from their loot, or to actually help them), but while you were approaching the building, the person had been surprisingly chased to the second floor by the zombies, so they hit one of the zombies with a bat, which glitched the zombie through the wall; the zombie falls two stories, lands on top of you, and kills you just as you reach the door. How did the person who posts below you die?

How does a "rotten" apple become "pristine"?
Meekalew replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, it was big, and shaped just right... and there's a scarcity of men in the apocalypse... -
whats the first thing ur gonna do after the patch ?
Meekalew replied to Munson_fry (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Avoid the zombies, because one zombie screaming at you can easily become six or more. -
That depends. You would have to take in account how the infection spreads, how fast it spreads, and how quickly a military force can respond. You also have to consider what type of zombie you're dealing with; is it a classical rotting, undead zombie? Or is it a fast moving, fully capable "living dead" until the body starts to physically break down? At first, I imagine the military would do well keeping it in check, but as civilian infrastructure starts to break down and fall apart due to casualties, so does the economy, which undermines the the military ability to respond. And if you have multiple outbreaks across various areas you would be stretching your military thin. If faced millions of zombies spread across entire countries; no standing military would have the capacity to maintain control. They would eventually run out of fuel and ammunition necessary to respond to outbreaks and start to lose cohesion as a military force. You would also have to consider the morale implication of a zombie outbreak for a soldier; if things start to take a turn for the worst, I would bet most soldiers will break ranks and run to protect their own families first with what gear they could take with them. Militaries are only as good as population that keeps them in power; and a severe zombie outbreaks corrode the supporting foundation of every military... the civilians.

Physical condition: i'm 37, wear glasses, but not blind without them, just a little blurry. I have decent nightvision though, and I really good peripheral vision. I have pretty good stamina and endurance, but not athletic or strong, yet not overweight or out of shape. Mental stability: I have most of the traits of a clinical psychopath without the negative "environmental" experiences in childhood to turn it evil. So, I'm incredibly calm in any given situation, even life threatening ones, I just do what needs to be done to prevent what's happening. I don't feel remorse or sympathy for people, but I also have a very logical respect for their life, space, time, the things they own, and do have a certain level of care for their well being... albeit not a fully developed emotional one. I would handle the stress of a post apocalyptic world quite well and just look at the situation thoughtfully, take stock of what I have and what I need, and do what needs to be done to survive. I wouldn't cry over the loss of people around me, but I wouldn't want it to happen either, and would try to prevent it. I work well with any personality type as I can mix socially with any group, and I'm really good at negotiating peace between two different people of different backgrounds. Teamwork or lonewolf: I could operate as either, but would prefer to work with a group as the chances of survival increase when working with a community. Useful skills and training: While I don't really use guns much, I'm a videographer and have a really steady hand... it would serve me well since my cameras are generally heavier than guns and I have to hold them in position for much longer than most people aiming one. It also gives me a lot of patience to be able to observe a situation and a lot of situational awareness (when you're filming live events you have to be aware of things going on 360 degrees around you, from what you should be filming to being able to avoid people out of your sight while filming). So, that makes me keen of environment at all times, even when I'm not filming. It's literally impossible to sneak up on me, and a zombie definitely couldn't do it. I spent a lot of time as a child running through thick forests full of bears, moose, and other wild animals, so I can get by in the woods if need be. Also, I live in an environment that has hot, humid heat in the summer and extreme snow and well below freezing temperatures in the winter, so I know how to adapt to climate changes. In fact, I wouldn't have to worry about zombies in the winter as they would simply freeze solid and they likely wouldn't survive spring thawing. So, chances are, I'd only have to survive the zombies for one spring, summer, and fall. If the apocalypse happened in mid winter, I wouldn't have to worry at all. The zombies likely wouldn't make it more than 50 feet before becoming statues. Talents: I do have some archery experience, so if I grab myself a decent bow and some arrows, I could likely get by hunting medium sizes animals (I have no illusion of hitting rabbits or squirrels with a bow and arrow, lol). I am also decent with a sword, oddly enough. Gear: I have a quality bow and arrow kit (not compound, too much maintenance and hard to repair if broken, they also have a habit of breaking in extreme temperatures). I have two combat ready samurai swords with back sling, so they would definitely help in any given situation where quick, silent killing is needed. I have a plethora of cold weather clothing and gear; from boots rated to -60 C to coats, etc. There's a ton of camping gear around me, butane stoves, LED lights, batteries, etc. I live in a rural area that is full of hunting/fishing places, so obtaining gear wouldn't be an issue at all. Location (I'm adding this one): I live in a rural area, a large island (bigger than many countries) with only a population of 500,000 people. The island is hard, rugged, full of cliffs, rocky areas, and smaller islands dotting the coast and in-land islands, etc. It would be a trivial matter of taking a boat to/from the small, uninhabited islands, where you wouldn't have to worry about zombies at all, and only having to go to the main island for supply runs. Rating: I think my survival would be 9/10.

I would lay one down and then lure bandits to run toward it with my big, fat, backpack full of loot.

DayZ: The Ultimate Hiking simulator
Meekalew replied to Timewarp (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Haha, I have a LogiTech G510s keyboard... I can macro the hell out of that W key if need be! :D -
Why do you say that? I see more people from 3PP bashing 1PP players than 1PP players bashing 3PP players in this thread, that said... it's not really about which is better. The servers are separate, you have choice of style to play. I'm just curious about people and why they make that choice for themselves, not why other people suck for making a different choice (because they don't, it's just a play preference).
-
Yeah, as the other guy said, disable or lower head bobbing; it helps a LOT for motion sickness.
-
This isn't a thread about which is better, It's a thread about why you play; each to their own for 1PP or 3PP, but what makes you make your choice? :) People playing 3PP Regular has no effect on me playing on 1PP in Hardcore, so it's not a matter that which someone else plays ruins another's, they're completely separate servers.

Discussion: Giving Players a Reason to Interact, not just KOS.
Meekalew replied to D Train's topic in General Discussion
+/- Karma. If you shoot or hit an unarmed player, you lose a karma point. If you shoot an armed player who has negative karma you gain a karma point. If you shoot an armed player who has positive karma you lose a karma point. The system would even work out its own flaws; for instance, if a player with negative karma kills another player with negative karma; they might gain positive karma, but they're still lowering the risk of threats. Karma wouldn't even need to be a statistic you could see or be aware of... but could affect your character in subtle ways. At least, if I were programming positive/negative interaction that is how I would start doing it. :) -
Discussion: Giving Players a Reason to Interact, not just KOS.
Meekalew replied to D Train's topic in General Discussion
I will think once the zombie AI is properly fixed, KoS will be reduced... even on Experimental now, firing a gun brings a relatively small horde of zombies running to the location of the shooter. Once this is refined, firing a gun will be risky business in towns/cities; and you will have to judge whether or not robbing or killing this person in front of you will be worth the risk. Snipers will have a hard time hiding in the woods, the first shot they fire will bring zombies running to them, and they won't be able to quietly sneak away from their position; they will have to up and run, making spotting them much easier. Also, bandits will have to determine whether the amount of ammo they will need to gun down a zombie horde as a result of gunfire will be worth it. There'll be more loss to banditry and killing on sight than there would be gain in most cases. If you're going to wind up using 2-3 clips of ammo gunning down zombies after firing a single bullet to kill someone... it'll make ammo a rare commodity and worth preserving. Bandits will have to spend more time server hopping and less time being bandits. -
Yes, I often write notes and leave them in my backpacks. :D Sometimes guilt trips, sometimes riddles. ;)

I was in an airfield tower yesterday, and a guy with a gun was upstairs... I only had a fireaxe. I put my axe away and asked if I could come up to look around. he said sure, he never shot me. I looked around, never saw what I needed and left. :) People can be friendly.

This game isn't about getting revenge, it's about surviving. If you died, you failed to survive. There's no revenge to get as you lost your life. The best way to hunt bandits is by stealth, watch, and observe their behaviour. If you see a bandit, shoot them. It doesn't matter if it's the one that killed you or not, you're doing a public service.
-
Right now, you can punch them and strafe to avoid them. When the next update comes... zombies are tougher, more aggressive, and come in larger numbers; so if you make too much noise fighting one zombie, others will come running, so my recommendation would be to learn to run and hide. If you can get some distance between you and the zombies and crouch in tall grass, they'll seem to stop and go into a "hunt" mode for a minute, then return to normal. You can usually avoid making zombies aggro by crouch and walking slowly through grass, near fences, walls, etc... and travel at night, it seems zombies don't notice you so well at night.

Why putting heart attacks in game makes no sense
Meekalew replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
Sprinting across the map with a heavily loaded backpack sounds like the perfect recipe for a heart attack. Survival is surviving against not just the "enemy", but the environment, the limits of your own body, etc. If that's not what you're looking for, maybe a survival game isn't your niche. Personally, I think if load has a factor into it, it'd be a great touch and make people think twice about the amount of "loot" they carry and be more selective. -
You don't know women very well, do you? I can assure you, I know many women who would make looking good through the zombie apocalypse top priority; if nothing more than to look attractive enough to make someone else want to protect her. Legitimate strategy. This game is about survival, believe it or not... being pretty can increase your odds of that, even in a simulation. Human nature, all that.

10 hours played havent seen a gun or food
Meekalew replied to ekanomikz's topic in General Discussion
There are plenty of guns, look in military bases, police stations (on Experimental and hitting stable soon), and also in many storage units (often overlooked by people it seems). They can also be found around farm areas and barns, etc. Military guns are only available from military bases, generally speaking, or from people you kill. If you want food, go inland, it's much easier to find than on the coast, where every new spawn is looking for food.
