Animal locations (Experimental Build))
Racket (DayZ) replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
I don't know the location, it's one of the new one spawn points in a village inland. I've spawned there about twice and ended up losing that character twice on experimental before I could get anywhere to see whereabouts it is. Anyway, my second spawn there I spawned in an area of two goats. Maybe someone can point to where it is from this single terrible screenshot I have of it. -
It depends on the location of the servers at this point, I think. I used to have this issue constantly, and sometimes I'd even end up with a character from a few resets back when I was suffering from it. Generally sticking to regular EU servers over the past few weeks has given me, and my friends, the same constant character, except once for my friend who got reset. The UK named servers have seemed to be the worst for me in getting a reset. Best thing to do is to log out as soon as you see your character is reset, or the warning that the server can't contact the hive pops up in red in the bottom left, and go searching other server names and numbers until your character is back.

What is the ingame map good for?
Racket (DayZ) replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
Are water pumps not already on the maps? Either I'm imagining it or thinking of the mod or something, but I know I've seen an icon before in one of them for pumps. -
I like grills.

I was thinking about going psycho earlier. I had a character I don't usually play on experimental UK instead of EU but had a gun and axe, and found a crossbow in a few seconds at Novod, so I was like "Yea, you know what, let's just go crazy for the first time in 200 hours of the standalone and however much else of the mod, be insane" so I ran through Novod on a full server. Found nobody. Went back to Svetlo, still found nobody. So just went running down the street with my crossbow, waiting to unload bolts in someone's face. Then, suddenly, YES! A player comes running towards me. But wait a minute....wait, he's moving into a sitting position. Oh, he hasn't got a shirt. Oh. He's looking at me. while sitting. While I'm pointing my crossbow at him. Following me as I circle past him. I kinda feel sorry for him, so I just run on. But then, I'm thinking "You know what, this is an easy kill, you gotta do this" so I run back planning to just kill him and say something stupid to him because psycho. I then find myself opening my inventory, dumping a can of tuna in front of his poor little bambi face, turning and running off into the forest. I suck at being a psycho.

Does anyone know where this mountain spawn is?
Racket (DayZ) replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yea, I had this mountain spawn the during the week on experimental when I was in the midst of playing the Random Character Simulation version that seemed to be happening with every log-in for a while. It's nice to have moments of spawning and actually having to look around a bit and move instead of just being like "Oh, there's a dock/factory/police station/orchard to my left/right/front/ass, this way!" -
Ah, getting emotionally involved with forms of media and art is fine. And gaming is the most understandable form of visual media to get emotionally involved with so yea.

Fishing Guide/Tutorial (Exp 0.45.12499 )
Racket (DayZ) replied to sobieski12's topic in General Discussion
Yea, they work. I've had one that's been pristine through a few trees, so I think they may go through more trees than the splitting axe? I know my friend only got a few trees done before her splitting one was ruined, but then it may not have been pristine when she used it... -

Yea I thought they were probably more common over that way. Was going to head back over to there but luckily about an hour ago I found one between NWAF and Vybor so that keeps me happy. Now I have something to do with my three axes. -
I've ha a small bit of experience with choppers in the mod. Never was good at controlling them at first, and would crash before I had the chance to master the art of flying around in the zombie world. Granted, I tried out a bit of a practice in Arma to get more familiar with it, but still don't think I'd want to fly them too often. That doesn't mean I don't want them in the game though. I'd love to see what they current team would do with them with a recreation and change, and hopefully sorting out the issues of being able to find things through trees so easily and so on. I've only had three or four run-ins with helicopters on the mod, but they're all so memorable. The first was on my first night, and while still getting to grips with the game with my friend, we ended up having to camp inside a firestation in Cherno when a heli flew in, landed and then the pilot proceeded to start sniping on the only other guy on the server at the time. Sitting there for about 20 minutes afraid to leave in case he's spot us from his vantage point is probably the exact point I knew the concept of DayZ was for me. In the span of my first few hours I'd experienced the thrills of searching a new land, hunting, scavenging, stealth gameplay, not trusting anyone even the person trying to help us who got shot on in the end and then that feeling of having to hide from someone so well kitted that we basically stood no chance so it was best to hang back, wait for him to get bored or kill the other guy, then move on. I love the current SA experience, but helicopters can still add to it. And I'm sure if they do get added, the team can iron out a lot of the kinks that understandably annoy people. Plus I imagine they would be kept so rare that it would be more likely to be at most a weekly-monthly meeting with a helicopter, if on the right servers, rather than every moment of every day being tormented by a chopper and having no chance to find anything above a screwdriver or something like that. I like a widened scope of adventures to tell tales from, which is what takes the mod and what the SA can be above so many other games.

Has anyone any tips on the best area for finding that damn tree? I know what it looks like, but either I'm completely blind overall or it's a rare thing across the map. I've had trouble finding ashwood sticks for weeks, so figured chopping down the tree would finally sort me out. Now the tree is as elusive as the sticks for me. Boo. -
On experimental they have, yea. There was a post on the experimental thread showing the tree, I just hope I can get an axe and survive long enough to try it out! You don't happen to remember where you found them? I know they used to spawn in the little sheds that had a tiny covering on the outside, and I've tended to check them all the time, along with most other places, and really haven't seen one for about 6 weeks, even on current stable. Maybe I get all the wrong servers.

Heh, I remember my friend and I didn't even find a vehicle for the first couple of weeks of us playing the mod. Let alone the first car we saw (at night) making us duck for cover while almost having a heart attack, having a chopper hunt us down still a week before we found our first car left us dumbfounded for what was happening, just for how out of the blue and unreal it seemed compared to the trek we were making across this new map that we had no idea where we were going. I do love the newish spawn points on the standalone now, that rush of not knowing where you are and trying to find your way is at least still happening for me, though it's rare as a 5 minute run in any direction and I'm usually back in recognisable territory. One of the main reasons I'm even playing the Breaking Point mod is the feeling of searching and not knowing what I'll find but trying to remember where I was for the future. Anyway, I think if I was to "wast" 30 minutes running, I'd probably be near the other side of the map from Berezino

It's an action for now but seemingly the devs want to make it that if you just beat on the bushes, and trees and everything else you can get stuff from with the action menu, that will get you what you need instead of an action system. I can't wait for that sort of fluid gameplay. I found one or two back when the original experimental with the craftable bow and arrow came out. Before long I never found one again, even when I searched through every shed that spawned them. Guess I need to get an axe to chop down some ash trees.
-
Ah, I'll have to have a look for the worms then, thanks! The hook I just found randomly in the upstairs office/reading room in that building with the piano downstairs. It was in the middle of the floor and I could see it quite easily so not too hard to find, at least when there's one around!
-
Haven't seen the ashwood stick in a long time, few weeks actually, but did pick up a fishing hook for the first time earlier. Guessing earthworms are found on the ground outside then randomly?
-
Yea, I haven't seen any spawn on the floor either. Gotten them from chopping the big bushes.

I'll probably keep testing it then, but will switch to a gun for now as it's not particularly great, especially with the rarity of bolts, if I can't be sure I'll get them back.. -

Are bolts supposed to be retrievable from zombies? I shot two earlier and couldn't find my bolt again on either of them. I did get the second zombie with a bolt to the knee, I enjoyed it being a one-shot kill -

I walked up to the bolt in the wall and couldn't get it back either at first. But I then approached it from the left hand side and was able to retrieve it. I could also retrieve it from the other side of the wall where there was a tiny end of the bolt sticking out, which I also found quite a funny way to be able to retrieve it. -

I've only come across bolts once. Have to say, shooting a bolt into a wall and taking it out again was one of my favourite stupid moments. -

Well, considering my comments earlier, and others I had seen, about how laggy the new patch had turned out to be with the endless rubber-banding on top, I must have caught the servers/my internet/Steam at a bad time. Played for an hour or two there, and everything ran smoothly. To the point I had no drop in framerate or anything across the map. Ended up dying because I couldn't find a sharp object to open my few tins of canned food I'd found across the map, but sure, it was a joyful, smooth transition to the gaming afterlife for that character. And I thought my gameplay seemed smooth on the stable this week as it was, but this was just great to play for how it went. If it does go stable tomorrow, can't wait to try out some combat with zombies to see how that goes. Kudos to the developers, really. Even as a person who sees himself as one of the patient ones, and understanding it's an alpha so surprised it was running as well as it was before, to have it like this now is really great. Though I can't help but think of the reaction that will come if this is as smooth when it reaches stable if it goes back to a bit of a chore when new features are added soon. Better start digging a hole to hide in just in case... -

Played about 20 minutes on a hardcore experimental server with the hotfix there. Desync was absolutely terrible, worst experience I've had at all in the game, let alone 0.42. Also got rubber-banding that I didn't get at all in the new stable release. Couldn't really interact with anything except for maybe a 30 second window here and there, also got knocked unconscious by late registering zombie hits with nobody around me. -
Hey guys, I'm Racket kinda a new one around these parts I guess, those I've been acquainted with the world of DayZ for some time. After being pestered by my friend for ages to get the mod, I ended up sorting that out as soon as I had a computer that could play it, and fell in love with the mod itself. In the end, I ended up getting the alpha recently before my friend, and enjoyed it that much that I pestered her into buying it earlier than she had planned. Regularly play for a bit of exploration, or just to create some new and adventurous stories and memories with friends through roleplaying, hiking or just messing around with the evironment. My enjoyment of the game has gotten me to the point that, because I'm Irish and have terrible internet during the evening hours, kinda changing my sleeping pattern to more suitable times for getting the most out of the alpha, or even the mod still. Played generally regular servers until recently, but now love a bit of hardcore server action, which is my preference, but still play regular if I have to. Feel free to add me on Steam: Racket89
