The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
agouti replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
Every gun that I or my family owns is stored with the magazine in it, next to it, or the weapon is in a holster with the magazine in the magazine slot in the holster made specifically for the gun. Outside of an armory, which there aren't any in this game, the gun should nearly always have the magazine in it or next to it. Remember the barracks are the sleeping quarters. I literally cannot fathom what was going through the mind of the devs when this was implements. Rocket said in the armory, the guns were never stored with the mags, but as I said, THERE IS NO ARMORY IN THE GAME. THIS IS A BEDROOM. THE GUNS ARE NOT STORED IN THE BEDROOM. THUS THEY WERE TAKEN BY A SOLDIER, and placed in the bedroom. Guess what? He'd probably have a mag in that. Oh wait, someone took the mags, but left the gun? You mean the springs and oiler kits and other tidbits likely to break or run out were also left behind and the gun is still functional? Nothing makes sense about this. In short, I never played the stalker series beyond the first one, and when the saiga was modded in, I always used the ecologist's special full auto saiga to rape the bloodsuckers and everything else. It was just nonstop firepower. Edited for grammar. -
That's what I don't understand. AKMs are more common than the SKS, thus it should be more common. It goes from a highly realistic experience to something more arcadey. I'd like to see the AK-74su on BMPs and trucks, the AKM in the military outposts. The SKS, Ruger 10/22, mosin, both shotguns, and CZ-527 should be in hunting cabins (and sometimes a handgun), the M4s on downed helicopters, and the longhorn and blaze super rare hunting rifles which one might also find in a cabin or maybe piano house (the wealthy house). Handguns should be in random houses. The police station should have a pump shotgun when it's released, the mp5, and whatever sort of handgun is standard issue to the police force, along with whatever sharpshooter rifle is common, and other carbines as is common. You might be wondering then, what is the point if the AKM is so common? Would this ruin gameplay? I don't know. I've never played a (MMO) sandbox tactical fps, this is new territory. Stalker made it so handguns were the norm until you left a certain point, but that whole thing seemed bizarre. To me it stands, the AK is a cheap common rifle, so it should be widespread. Maybe counter this by introducing other strange rifles at the helicopter crash sights that have superior accuracy and less recoil (the M4, various other 5.56 rifles), or more range, like battle rifles. The AK does have its weakpoints, and I feel this could easily be mitigated. In the mod, my buddy and I just hung out in the woods by gas stations or just outside of towns (berezino in particular) and just used DMRs or anti-material rifles. Nobody ever came close to hitting us at 500+ yards. Of course I got butthurt and stopped playing when I had to shoot someone twice with a .308 to kill them. It just became counterstrike sandbox to me at that point. The DMR was super common in the mod, but I was under the impression the m14 was something of a rarity in life. I've only ever seen one for sale before, and it had a very hefty price tag.

Not into tiers man. Guns are different things made for different purposes with different groups of people in mind. The SKS was made because comrade stalin thought soldiers would lose mags. The AK was made as something of an LMG. The ruger 10/22 was made to kill squirrels and plink. Eastern bloc weapons were at one point simpler and made to require less training and maintenance, and designed to be manufactured at large centralized factories, whereas the aluminum receivers AR can be pumped out of any small machine shop. I meant to make this an edit to the previous post. Wish I could delete it.

I think we have different interpretations of this word. For one, I consider the word OP to be non-existent. It is a made up concept which isn't real. Shotguns not dispersing across a map is unrealistic, and out of the realm of reality. A rifle that kicks like an smg, but kills like a rifle, and can be kept stowed away in a bag is awesome, realistic, and some people will cry "OP". The fact that something can be controlled and still kill people just rustles some people's jimmies. Just remember what they say about OP, what he is.

Exactly! Who wants to reload all that nonsense! You can buy 20 round drums for saigas and pop away all day. This game needs a saiga. With 5, 8, and 20 round mags. -
Like every game, the community will have to clean up the makers' mistakes. Just look at stalker, what a joke! I'm sure modders will add in: 7.62x25 tokarev 8mm mauser 9x18 makarov 5.45x39 etc. etc. Just leave it to the modders, and watch your community fragment into a dozen little pieces because you couldn't do it right the first time. :) Edit: Also, Katana, you should be ashamed. The m43 round behaves nothing like the 5.45x39 round. I'd rather see it use the 5.56 round instead, even if it is inauthentic, because it would behave more like the 5.45.

Random dispersion is never realistic, however, as stated earlier, certain buttstocks are less stable than others, such as the AK-47s (which uses the MP-40 buttstock, you know, from the WWII submachine guns). It is not able to take rifle recoil IMO. However, the newer sidefolding buttstocks are far more solid, and in some cases, on par with a solid stock. People think of things as being balanced, but life isn't balanced. Assault rifles by nature aren't balanced. They give you recoil comparable to an SMG, but the killing power of a rifle. How is this balanced? This is life. Life isn't balanced.

What about multiple pieces of tile? Remember ceramic is often used in armor.

"Handcrafted" ammo is usually more accurate and more reliable. You can pick a primer that your gun fancies, and your powder loads can be loaded fanatically accurate. The reason you don't see so much hand loaded ammo is because people are afraid if they use it for self defense, the idiot liberals will say you loaded these bullets to kill and be more damaging. Nevermind the fact that is what a gun does at its very core. Even then you still see a fair amount of handloaded ammo. -
Folding stock rifles are created for the very reason so they can be kept in a smaller space. They are designed to be OP. Life isn't balanced, people are always trying to build a better mousetrap. However, many folding stocks are absolutely terrible. Someone had the ingenious idea to take a folding stock made to handle the recoil of a 9mm round and put it on an AK, and here we are today. Somebody should beat that man.

I find it strange that the zombies seem to have a longer reach in their attacks while failing their arms, then I would have say with a baseball bat or other melee weapon. I find melee in the game to be frustrating, as somtimes, the zombie can even be positioned in such a way where I can't reach their head. I feel like the reach of attacks should precisely match how the models are animated and appear in game.

People use a lot of funny words when describing how bullets injure you, but realistically, this is what happens: Critical organ failure: You're trying to obliterate the heart/lungs/brainstem/spinal cord. Bloodloss Alternatively, you're trying to strike a major artery, vein, the heart, or cause enough bloodless to induce more or less something of a heart attack. Hydrostatic shock is a myth. Also, I'm not sure what people mean by stopping power. It's a word often used, but I sure don't understand it. Pistols work by trying to keep the projectile solid and expanding. Penetration is often an issue -there isn't enough of it. The FBI concluded in a 1980s study that the ability of the pistol to "stop" a man is directly correlated to its ability to penetrate. There we go again with that stopping power. Incapacitate? I think a criminal vs a road warrior are in a different state of mind, and thus this incapacitation nonsense is just that. You'll keep firing until you're dead dead, knowing that if you do survive, they'll just put a bullet in you or torture you for please. Or later on the down the line, maybe eat you, or haul you around, severing limbs to eat you. Thus a pistol works by keeping one big hunk of lead, and trying to expand it while maintaining penetration. A rifle works by speed, and making the bullet unstable in tissue, and causing it to yaw and/or fragment. Tumbling is more effective than a straight through shot. There has been research done to try to make the bullet yaw "earlier (depth wise)" in the target, such as the 5.45x39 round. While it does tumble, and in theory causes more damage than the m43 (AK) round, this tumbling is not as effective as fragmentation. The m193 compared to the m855 causes superior fragmentation, and is more effective on soft targets. I've read some versions of the 7.62 Nato round also have excellent fragmentation. This fragmentation obliterates soft tissue in a way that yawing and tumbling never will. The 5.45x39 is merely soviet propaganda. Note: this graph only includes the m885, which still offer fairly good fragmentation.

Stevens introduced the Model 87 in 1938, which sold over a million units. Further units were sold as the Savage Model 6 by Sears.[9]" This used the .22 long rifle ammo. Introduced in 1938, sold over a million units. -

Why wouldn't it be? It's a neat little .22 rifle that goes bang. There are hunters in Chernarus that use .22 rifles. This rifle goes for about $100. That's even cheaper than the ruger which somehow made it to chernarus. Sounds like a real steal. Do you argue there would be a local equivalent instead? Maybe, but this rifle is so peculiar, it's like using the blaze instead of a local equivalent. Edit: Also "As several manufacturers would later do with other wildcats, Stevens adopted the .25-20, developed by Francis J. Rabbethin 1882. The unpopularity of the bottlenecked case led Stevens to develop the .25-21 in 1897. Designed by Capt. W. L. Carpenter, 9th U.S. Infantry, the .21-21 Stevens was essentially a shortened version of the company's own .25-25 of 1895.[7] (This is an odd reversal of the relationship of the .38 S&W Special to the .357 Magnum.) The .25-25 would be used in Stevens' model 44 and the model 44½ rifles manufactured from 1903.[7] Stevens and Taylor was bought out in 1896 by I.H. Page, who was one of the new partners and the bookkeeper. Page led the company to significant growth, such that by 1902 Stevens had 900 employees and was considered one of the topsporting firearms manufacturers in the world. In 1915, Stevens led the U.S. arms business in target and small game guns. Stevens military productions and offerings were generally limited to prototypes in an attempt to garner military contracts.[2] Stevens was bought by the Savage Arms Company in 1920 and the operations of the two companies merged, with Stevens operating as a subsidiary of Savage and sometimes identified as "Savage-Stevens" until 1936.[2] This merger made the company the largest producer of arms[clarification needed] at the time.[8] Stevens introduced the Model 87 in 1938, which sold over a million units. Further units were sold as the Savage Model 6 by Sears.[9]" Over a million units, sold by Sears, through mail order. Literally anyone could have mail-ordered one of these bad boys. Until the 1960s. -

I have an idea for a weapon which would be useful in game. The Stevens 87A. It is a 15 shot semi auto rifle that uses a tubular magazine. It is the famous "gill gun". The tubular magazine is built in, so this gun doesn't require another magazine. It can take a basic scope, which it often has notches for. Here is the related 87b. I imagine, like most in game guns, this would be a mashup, so mash these two up. -
AR rifles are super reliable when allowed to run wet. Not my fault militaries didn't always allow them to run wet, and gave them a bad rep. The the north hollywood shootout, the man with the AK has his gun jam. Just food for thought.

I had a retort to all of this where I essentially listed every amendment as a right in the vernacular, and then said but not being offended is not among these rights, but accidentally deleted it, so you get this instead. Imagine it was a brilliantly written piece of prose.

Clearly the 7.62x63 is the most common hunting cartridge in the world. :P Also, the Vz-58 fires 200 rpm faster than the AKM, yep still on that train. Why is 200 rpm useful? When pumping bullets into dangerous mutants, while avoiding deadly anomalies. Yes this is dayz. -
Oh no, you've offended somebody. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I was raised on the concept of "sticks and stones." You don't have a right to not be offended, period.

If you want to be a racist, don't be it in name, be it in action, like a gentleman. See a black person? Shoot him. Because racism is bad, but killing people is okay. So is torture. These are the lessons of Dayz: Murder? Yes Torture? Yes Racism? No In fact, that's why they should restrict spray paint from being done freestyle. Some small child who is too young to properly distinguish between fantasy and reality is playing a game based on a military simulator with murder and torture might see something racist, and that would just ruin them. Think of the children. Daddy, what's a swastika? *Note: if you have trouble recognizing sarcasm, disregard entire post and anything ever said by this user. On a side note, and in all seriousness, if you let small children play this game, you should be beaten. I truly believe a squeaky voice should be grounds for an immediate kick if not ban.

I would imagine it would be more accurate, depending. How do military grade AKs compare to century jobs as far as accuracy is concerned? I remember there was a big deal with those bulgarian slr-95s because they were milled and supposedly capable of 3-4 moa. A good vz-58 will do more or less 3 moa. Edit: on that note, why does nobody make match ammo for it?
-
It's not an AK variant. As said in another thread, let's have a comparison of the two. The vz-58 uses a tilting bolt action, much like the SKS. It also has a separate piston inside of the gas tube that is not directly attached to the bolt as in the AK. This is called short stroke instead of long stroke. It also has a projection in the bolt that strikes the primer, called a striker, instead of a separate firing pin as found in the AK and SKS. Also, the Vz-58 has a bolt hold open device, and a safety which doesn't require you to change hands to operate. However, the key points are the tappet (the separate piston) and the action, which is tilt bolt, unlike the AK which is a rotating bolt. All of these features culminate in a vastly superior weapon. This is not just an AK clone, it's a completely different rifle which was finalized with a similar shape. I mean, you have to put the gas tube somewhere, either above or below. (Or maybe the side, but that hurts my head to think about). The Stg-44 has a similar layout, is this all related? It is not. This may be apples and oranges, but compare the thylacine (tasmanian tiger)to the wolf. Both have a very similar body plan, but one is a eutherian (true mammals, gives live birth and have a placenta) and the other is a metatherian (also live birth, but the fetus is born much earlier and has to live in a pouch, and doesn't use a placenta). This means the makeup of the two is very very different, but the body plan is an emergent property, which seems to fit this niche. I believe the same is true regarding rifles, the basic concept of a metal receiver, instead of surrounded by a wooden one which totally encompasses the receiver, a detachable magazine below the receiver, and a gas tube either above or below the rifle is something of an emergent property which just makes sense when designing assault rifles.

The AKM is like the VZ-58's half-retarded older brother. Just yesterday my friend was telling me how he couldn't wait for the AKM. I told him I was much more interested in the vz-58. Striker fired, uses a tappet rod instead of connecting it to the bolt, aluminum magazines, and a bolt hold open? (don't get me started on the safety) Hey look, a rifle that uses the m43 round, places the gas tube above the barrel, and is a carbine. It must be an AK! -
Gravity's acceleration is 9.8 m/s^2 regardless. The bullet is flatter shooting because it has a higher velocity and a smaller drag coefficient.
