So M1 Garand has been confirmend...

Why would it be rare? The US loves giving weapons away. Even the CMP sold these. I think WWII weapons should be somewhat commonish. Didn't you know? These countries are all playgrounds for NATO vs Warsaw and their various weapons trickle down.
  2. Oh, I would LOVE a coonan! The coonan belongs everywhere.
  3. Yeah, but the Erma has plastic sights and is a POS. Can't speak about the Chiappa, but the Marlin is well made.
  4. Son, that's clearly an auto bolt. Mauser based actions and such look quite different, including sticking out more. It's just an ancient very common .22. Also, if there were to be a variety of .22s, maybe I suggest the marlin 99, it's about a 10 shot or so tube mag. This one takes a scope easily. My father bought one in the 60s, still has it. I'd love it if there was a variety of semi-auto tube mag .22s. The pump too. If they're all tube mags, there'd be no extra mags taking up spawn points and such and they're already good to go. .22s are very common anyway.
  5. Or how about a Stevens 87A? It's a 15 shot tube magazine semi-auto .22. The "gill gun". :D Basic front sight: Or fancy schmancy hooded front sight (prettier stock too):

Naw, just put in 7.62 tokarev. You will long be dead before it could degrade. I walked out a house and broke my leg and was pummeled to death by a passing fresh spawn, then just died twice during 2 random server resets.

    Anti tank rifles

Endgame is a word commonly used to denote the sorts of things a player does after acquiring high end gear. This is fixing vehicles and building bases. It's beyond mere survival -it's an attempt at reconstructing a society of sorts, and the inevitable skirmishes that result. You're merely trying to survive, we're making power plays. Furthermore, I stopped playing the mod when it required more than one 7.62 Nato round to the chest to take somebody out. At that point it was just battlefield with zombies and loot. And no, evolutionary arms race is not considered outdated by any means.

    Anti tank rifles

I played the mod extensively. You need .50 cal rifles because other players have .50 cal rifles, and vehicles. You must not have played many endgame scenarios. It was helicopter and apc warfare. Also, I raise you this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Queen_hypothesis Yes, survival, in the broader biological sense, is in fact an arms race.

Survival is an arm's race. Don't ever forget it. You have to run as fast as you can, just to stay in place! -The red queen.

    Mauser C96

This is going to sound coarse, but hear me out. The 7.63 mauser rounds have a lower pressure, but will propel an 80 something grain round at 1400 fps. This will penetrate many NIJ II vests. Here comes the coarse part: you can use 7.63 mauser rounds in 7.62 tokarev guns, but the bullet diameter is a bit thin, and accuracy won't be optimal. You can also use 7.62 tokarev rounds in 7.63 mauser guns. They won't explode in your face, but they will wear out faster. Here's the real coarse part: In the DayZ universe, you'll be dead before you have a chance to wear out your mauser.

The 7.62 tokarev can penetrate kevlar helmets and level II NIJ vests. Even the .357 magnum can't penetrate these. When armor gets implemented into the game, this would be the only handgun round that can penetrate them. Seems to me to be a good reason to have them.

    The 'war on snipers'

If you hit someone in the upper chest, spine, brainstem, or certain parts of the neck, they should die. Also the upper leg. You have the aorta, the carotid, the jugular, the hepatic portal, the femoral in your legs, the heart, and your lungs can deflate. Killing people with a rifle should be much much easier. The majority of shots with a full power rifle cartridge should be lethal. A gut shot can take hours to bleed out depending on if the bullet fragmented properly, hit bone, etc. Check this out.

Resting your weapon and Universal Bipods

The mosin is something of a turd. However, not all mass produced battle rifles are crap. Even the mosin as a platform is capable of superb accuracy, just not the way it was done. The finns for example, made excellent mosins. The k98 and k31, made by the germans and swiss are wonderfully accurate rifles. When you decide upon an action for a bolt rifle (let's say you're building a hunting rifle for personal use), you're essentially stuck with either a mauser based action, an enfield based action, or a mosin based action (or some crazy exotic thing, I like my k31). I think the vast majority choose mauser based actions. In fact, I don't know of anybody who has made a custom rifle based on a mosin action, but I'm sure it's out there; the receiver is quite strong. Now, I own a mosin, and it's not that great. But if it's the only long range rifle I owned, I'd try to get the most out of it. As it stands, the mosin is currently the only long range rifle in the game.

    Mauser C96

That's the tt-33, the cz-52, the c96, the ppsh, the ppd-40, and the pps-43. I think that's a fair amount of guns that could use the (fictional) caliber. The reason I like the 7.62 round idea is because it has a higher fps than the 9mm and .45 rounds and thus should penetrate armor, clothing, vehicles, and buildings better. Also, it's a smidgeon flatter shooting. It's just a unique fun round, and I feel this would be lost if they just went with generic calibers. The 7.63 mauser also comes out screaming at 1400-1500 fps. And the tokarev is anywhere from 1200 from the super super low end, up to 1600+ fps.

Resting your weapon and Universal Bipods

It's smarmy, not smary, and also, I'm OP. Also, I would like to say again that I'm also very very interesting in a resting feature, and wouldn't like to focus solely on bipods. That being said, yes, the clamp on bipods are terrible. However, the mosin is by no means a precision rifle and any marginal decrease in mechanical accuracy is far outweighed by the practical accuracy. However, keeping with this idea of terrible bipods, I would like to suggest: Not the clamp on bipod, but the clip on bipod: Also, the shooting sticks! A craftable item: That being said, yes you CAN attach a swivel studs on the mosin, you do it further to the hands than to the end of the barrel, like most other rifles. Or you can put them through the sling mount. Here are more pics. Wow that one's ugly!

Resting your weapon and Universal Bipods

Are you familiar with how bipods work? This is a clamp on bipod. The clamp on bipod clamps onto the barrel of your rifle. Does your rifle have a barrel? Good! It can use a clamp on bipod! But wait, what about more specialized form of bipods? This is a swivel bipod. It attaches to the stock by means of swivel studs. In order to attach swivel studs to attach the bipod, your rifle needs to have a stock. Does your rifle have a stock? The mosin nagant, the ruger 10/22, and even the blaze, get this: ALL HAVE STOCKS! OMG!

    Anti tank rifles

I'd like to see all manner of anti-tank rifles. I'd like the see the 20mm Lahti and the Solothurn, and the PTRS-41, a repeating 14.5 rifle like an over-sized SKS. Keep it to a basic 20mm, 14.5mm and .50 cal for logistics, of course. (The .50cal being modern anti-material rifles and the Boys). Vehicles will be a major part of the game, and these rifles make things interesting. Back in the mod, I remember my buddy used to camp for hours on populated servers by this gas station. He'd take out the engine block, then start taking out the passengers. They'd scramble to figure out what was wrong, but ultimately, he'd snipe them all, then retrieve the loot. Needless to say, it didn't take long until we had piles upon piles, as vehicles are already fairly endgame, the passengers were usually well equiped, plus the vehicles often had LMGs and such. Good times. So no, these anti material rifles aren't just used for killing bambis and griefing. They're used to take on vehicles and their endgame passengers. If you want to go play survivor/loner in the woods, you need not worry. This was just for killing 3-6 man militarized squads.

    customizable faces

I think size customization is a great idea! You don't need to remake the skeleton or the meshes, you just resize them, like how morrowind races worked. But here's the kicker: I'd like to see a strength based carrying limit and fatigue AND melee damage. The larger your character, the more you can carry, and the harder you hit. The smaller your character, the lower your carrying limit and melee damage, but also the smaller your hitbox. It would force players to make a choice. I feel items though should sort of automatically fit you regardless of size just to make the logistics easier.

    Sa vz. 58

It is lighter and uses a stiffer forged receiver. It's striker fired and has a tipping bolt more reminiscent of the sks vs the rotating bolt of the AK. Should be marginally more accurate due to the receiver. Marginally meaning probably no difference when shooting off hand, but if fired under strict objective circumstances, I'd bet it would be measurable. That being said I have a major hard on for forged components and striker fired guns. Thumbs up from me.

    Mauser C96

They should just create a generic "7.62 pistol round" to attempt to bridge the gap between 7.62 tokarev and 7.63 mauser rounds and just add the tokarev in game as well. The tokarev is crazy popular with everyone. Especially those pakistanis. Tee bore anyone? You could have the CZ-52 as well.
  21. So I would like to propose two main ideas here regarding melee combat. It seems in melee combat, the only thing to do is left click, which is attack. I propose #1 Use of the right click as a means to block as a bare minimum. #2 Use of a left side mouse button to attack from the left, while left click attacks from the right. Mouse wheel up is stab, and mouse wheel down is chop. I feel this would make melee more interesting.

    Sporter 22 suggestions

How about full auto trigger groups? Fully automatic .22s were very common before The Firearm Owners' Protection Act of 1986. It was actually a last minute rider; it was so you didn't need to go through all the hoop la la to buy ammo. Tippmann, before it made paintball guns, used to make novelty scaled down .22 automatics.

    Realism Vs. Balance

Over the past couple of days, I have been reading random threads of cries of OP and expectations of balance. I have to say that when somebody is against folding stocked rifles (being only one example) because of the "balance" issues that result, and how they are "OP" all I can think is: that's why you try to find one! On this note, many many scoped hunting rifles are based on the mauser design and could potentially make decent long range rifles, such as the remington 700, which is the basis of the m24 rifle. Don't get me wrong, and I'm not trying to open up a can of worms here, but barring bodily functions, I wholeheartedly loved how the mod, and hopefully the stand alone cast "balance" (the artificial implementation of limits in an attempt to cater unnecessarily to the nonexistent concept of "fairness") totally aside. Before arma II changed the bullet damages to reflect the NATO forces wearing body armor, which affected dayz, I thought bullet damages were superb. I understand the standalone, now, is an alpha, and the weapons need to be ironed out, but I expect a solid chest hit from either 7.62x54r, a 7.62x51, or even a 7.62x39 round (or even 8mm mauser?), one round to the upper chest, will sufficiently turn your insides to goo and drop you. Barring some massive reworking of human anatomy, and the fact that the zombies are of the living variety, I expect the same of them as well. To sum this up, I just hope, at least regarding firearms, that bullet damages, drop, and other such factors will be implemented in such a way as to give us the visceral experience I believe the majority of the community wants. I believe red orchestra 2 has the best damage system of any game I've seen, on realism mode, with the immediate need to bandage, death from most rifle shots regardless of attempts to bandage, and the inclusion of a heart hitbox in the chest that, when hit, kills you almost instantly. Regarding melee weapons, I have to say I am woefully uneducated, and have no idea as to how easily people are beaten to death with a variety of random objects.

    Realism Vs. Balance

I just am in utter disbelief how a game can make movement purposefully clunky to simulate wearing gear, have multiple blood types, food poisoning from rotten fruit, and all manner of brutal realistic behavior, and then at the last second go: you know what? Let's tier weapons. It's the anti-game.

Magazines are too hard to find

I was given an SKS for my 16th birthday. Is this some sort of joke? No wait, that was 18th. I think. Maybe it was 16th? Somewhere in there was a fine pellet rifle by RWS. Too much reefer man. The magazines should be stored into the gun, next to the gun, or in a holster made for the gun with both in it. Only in the armory are they separate, and the game doesn't include an armory. Rocket said they won't be stored together in the armory, but as I said, there isn't one. The police station has some rooms that look like they could be them, but police procedure is different from military procedure.
