The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

In common nomenclature, a semi-automatic handgun is referred to as simply automatic. I suspected the same is true with shotguns? The only full auto shotguns I can think of the AA-12, even the saigas are custom jobs, albeit common ones due to the AK receiver. -

Automatic shotguns are civilian shotguns. The saiga 12 is commonly owned by civilians. The remington 1100 is a civilian shotgun. They are most commonly available in 12 gauge. Personally, instead of alternate shotgun gauges, I'd like to see buckshot rounds, slugs, and sabot rounds. That being said, the 7.62 tokarev round isn't meant for hunting, but for people. It stills remains very popular for this purpose in Eastern Europe and obsessively popular in Pakistan. Serbia, Pakistan, and China still make modern production guns and ammo for this round. It's not going anywhere anytime soon. The .25 acp, I feel would be better suited by the .32 acp, which allows for far more pocket pistols (and the nagant revolver with half-moon clips], and the vz61 skorpian. I've love to see the .270 or .243, probably the .270 more, the .50 bmg, the .338 lapua, and the 9x39. All historically and mechanically interesting and beloved guns. No army uses the .30-06 today either, but I could waltz on over to my local walmart and take my pick from many different brands. The same is true of the tokarev round too, you go to a gander mountain, and you can buy premiere rounds, not just mil-surp crap. Many manufacturers today make it. In the Us, the m57 has surged in popularity because of how cheap it is, it's a new manufactured tt33, check out those C&R stores man, it's flying off the shelves. $240 and classic arms is sold out! -
I'm aware that in certain countries, you are not allowed to own military caliber guns, and so slight derivations are often necessary. In the Us the only requirement is no full auto, even short barreled rifles are allowed for a measly $200 tax. That being said, many commercial rifles are either of questionable reliability (for the semi-autos], or are quite expensive. For this reason in the Us, there is quite an overlap between military rifles and "hunting" rifles to the point where it becomes more or less pointless to try to distinguish the two. A great deal many bolt action rifles are blatant copies of the original mauser design, which was originally created as a military weapon. The remington 700, one of the most prolific hunting rifles in america, when chambered for the 7.62 nato and accurized, is called the m24 (a sniper rifle]. The BAR by browning (not the military rifle, the civilian repeating rifle] is quite expensive, and in most cases, it's just easier to repurpose an old military rifle due to cost. Many of the cheaper american bolt rifles are really designed to be used only once or twice a year as well. With all this being said, either be prepared to shell out some cash or just buy old military stuff. Instead of getting an older (the older ones were better] remington 700, I picked up a k31 for 1/3 of the price. It suits me just fine.

Who in particular are the mods responsible for this decision? -
I meant to say mini-30. The earlier ones had thin barrels. Terribly accuracy. I've read reports of 5 inch groups. My sks can do under 3. I've heard the problem has been resolved (the new production uses thicker barrels], but with $400 vz58, that's quite some competition. Maybe some people would rather buy american, or want a sight closer to the bore, like for squirrels, idk.
-
Oh baby, look at that scope and muzzle attachment. The Garand, and the mosin nagant for that matter are common hunting rifles. Even the sks is. The garand used to be more common in years past when the CMP was a government funded project trying to practically give them away. All of these surplus rifles made and continue to make cheap hunting rifles. You ever go looking to buy a well made hunting rifle brand new? They're expensive man. There's a reason people use old military stuff. I bought my sks for like $300 because it's cheaper than an AK and no way am I using a mini-14. I live in a wooded area where you'd be lucky to shoot 100 yards, and I dislike the recoil of the 30-06, so it fits me perfectly. Of course today you can buy a vz 58 for $400 which is lighter, handier, and just better. Who could have predicted that?

I wasn't referring to modding, but rather, to co-development. I've seen enough mods over the years to wonder, why isn't this a thing? Has any game company ever tried this? There's enough talented modelers out just biting at the chance to include their favorite weapon in the game. Resources wouldn't need to be shifted away from other areas (the artwork can focus on zombies, clothes, etc]. If the animations can be maintained, all that would be left is sounds, which could also user added. I'm also of the mindset of making ammo and weapons more common, just flooding it with different types to make a sort of an artificial rarity. In that sense, by increasing the amount of loot, a vast number of weapons and calibers would be necessary. As such, I would love to see the 5.7x28, and the .243, and the 30-06, and even a .270 or .280, and a .300 win or .338. But hey, the .380 was added for 2 guns, and the .45 for two guns. Why is this such a crazy idea? Even the .22 is only used by 2 guns. Also, I really do like the pps-43 and the ppsh-41. I also really do like the cz-52, the tt33, and I'd like to see a zastava ppz. It's confirmed in the .45, .40 cal, and the 9x19, the 7.62x25 is just a rumor. -

The mod had like a bazillion different AK variants. And ar variants. I'd just like to see some of that variety return. I'm curious though, why at this point in the game, haven't they released some tools to the community? Now, this might sound crazy, but say in stalker, the community was able to provide additional weapons and ammo types, which fit with the art in the game already and behaved more or less as they should. Also, another good argument for the 7.62x25 is shooting someone who is behind cover. I know in other games if somebody is behind a wall and playing footsie with me around a corner, I just light up the wall. Also, as stated earlier, the c96 will experience increased wear, but I feel this would not accumulate in any meaningful way before you die in this game. Kinda like shooting .357 in some of those earlier s&ws. -

Really, I think the only guns worth adding from that list are: PPD, PPsh-41 PPs-43, tt33, c96, cz-52, zastava ppz, the ak, and the stechkin (a fully automatic handgun]. (and maybe the px-3] The reason I'm so hellbent on this is vehicles. Vehicles will greatly stop most pistol caliber rounds, or very very much slow down, unless you hit the glass. Wouldn't you like to be able to engage vehicles with smgs and pistols? It might seem like a moot point now, but in a few weeks, you'll wish they were in the game. Or else, you know, a few buddies and you wait by a gas station and try to light up some car with handguns. They drive 200 yards away, park, pull out their rifles, shoot you all, and go back and gas up. If you had 7.62x25 handguns, you might just win. In a world where you don't care about collateral damage, you'll want a gun that penetrates and penetrates hard. The .357 might be all you got. -

As I've stated many times, the 7.62x25 has special properties, which, if the game is capable of either reproducing or emulating, would make a fine addition to the game. The 7.62x25 can penetrate better than other pistol calibers, and should work better both against clothing, light armor, and static objects. It'd be better for shooting at vehicles. The round is also flatter shooting than other pistol caliber rounds, thus requiring less arcing at long distances, and retains more of the velocity, giving it a greater effective range. Pakistan makes 7.62x25 pistols and carbines (or the arma verse equivalent]. The 7.62x25 can be fired from a c96, though it will increase wear. I should note that irl pakistan makes many many crazy guns in the 7.62x25 caliber, and if there is an arma equivalent, I'd like to see a bunch of these crazy things. List of weapons, realistically smg: PPsh-41 PPD PPs-43 AK [surprisingly common, there are many AKs converted to simple blowback] sterling Czech sa 24/26 Chinese type 79 Chinese type 85 Yugoslavian m49 Korovin 1941 (probably not common enough to warrant in game] (and various paki carbines resembling and made from an AK, mp5s made from an Ak, or american rechambered m4] The dedicated upper on an american Ar is more common than you would think, but ultimately, imo, useless to add. I should note I've seen many many firearms offered in this chambering, but what sense would it make? Who would want a g3 or an uzi in 7.62x25? Pistols: TT33 cz-52 zastava ppz (modern 20 round mag] stechkin in 7.62x25 (also in 9x18 or .380 for gameplay, or 9x19] c96 px-3 (another modern handgun] -
Holy necropost batman! I'd like to see a variety of melee weapons. I'd like to see broadswords, maces, bearded axes, warhammers, etc. stuff made for the express purpose of killing, instead of repurposing other tools. Like in a museum. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/211004-museum/ I saw an indonesian kris at a state university museum, and the local community college museum hosts touring displays, one in particular featured arms and armor from ancient greece up until the 1500s to 1600s.

I think it'd be a fun little gun if it was rare. Just don't give it laser accuracy from a .45. Maybe it would be a good fit... FOR THE MUSEUM? -
The lore says there was a virus, the virus killed most of the population. Those that survived were left as "zombies". Only the totally immune were left with their mental faculties in tact. They aren't superhuman, just severely brain damaged people. That being said, the creatures from I am legend have a bacterium which secrets a glue like substance to be secreted in the event of injury preventing bleeding out. However, these creatures in game aren't vampires, these are just brain damaged people. In real life, they'd all be dead after one day due to hypothermia. If it's the summer, they'd all be dead within a week due to not finding water, and if water is found, not boiling it, and shitting themselves to death with the inevitable traveler's diarrhea. Really, this whole plot is breaking down the more I consider it. The virus would have to somehow drastically alter their physiology in order to keep them alive. Oh well, suspension of disbelief and all that. Edit: I should say most would be dead in 3 days or less. They're probably already very dehydrated from the initial infection, so by the time they recover, they're in a bad state already. Animals have instincts which these people lack, such as going to lower ground to find water, and having senses that better enable them to do. Without our higher faculties and reasoning, people do very very poorly. I'd venture 90 percent at least dead within 3 days.

400 yards is 365 meters. Yards and meters are very close. Have you ever fired a handgun? Seriously. Or any pistol caliber round? You're talking insanity man. The drop would be 400-500 inches. An sks already is tough at 400 yards irl, and you expect me to believe someone's doing that with a .45? That's probably for area targets/suppressive fire. -

.45 acp at just under 400 yards? Bwahahaha Hahahahaha. Hahahahaha. Ha. Gibonez, why u so dumb? -
Mmm delicious tears. I kill everyone because why not? Sometimes, I if I have the drop on you already, and you seem... useful, like-minded, etc., I'll team up. I've met a few friends that way. Otherwise, you're a source of fresh rags if nothing else. Personally, I hope they add in cannibalism.

You guys are doing it wrong, instead of trying to hit the zombie where the crosshair is, swing the axe a few times and visually assess the path the axe head takes through the air. Familiarize yourself with it. Next, align your axe-head, the path it travels, into the body of the zombie. It should collide with the body of the zombie. You can't just use the cursor, it's not a gun. Once you realize this, it becomes very easy to kill nearly anything. However, it should have a longer reach. And the weaker weapons like the crowbar and machete should do far more damage.

How about a... museum? :P

My father owns 3 1100s (one he bought, two inherited). Nice guns. The uncle with the auto-5 actually had sons who hunted though, bummer for me :P. However, the humpback on the auto-5 just looks so militaristic to me. It's beautiful. I'll simply have to get one in a few years, with the compensator. Oh man, a shotgun with a compensator? For it's time, it was just so badass.

Finding the Machete woefully inadequate, I'd like better melee weapons. So, I did find an old thread regarding a museum, but it didn't match my vision. So here's my idea: In one of the larger, more cultural/touristy towns (Cherno, for example), there could be a museum. In my vision, this museum would have swords, axes, a hunnish bow (I imagine chernarus is far enough east that recurve technology was not lost as it was in western europe), and a crossbow. I would like to see various medieval melee weaponry, as I feel the melee weapons now essentially consist of the pickaxe, the fireaxe, the splitting axe, and the farming hoe. I'd like to see: A thrusting dagger A rapier A broadsword A shortsword Some sort of melee purposeful axe, maybe throwing axes too, using the physics system? A mace A neat thing about smaller weapons, was in the mod, iirc, the fireaxe didn't work in smaller spaces. With a sword, you could move from the general swing to a quick pierce animation indoors and still remain lethal. The "archaic" crossbow, (an arbelesque, really) instead of firing your typical bolts, would fire steel bolts, and would have increased range, damage, and most importantly, penetration. I would like this to have traditional crossbow sights, either your ladder peep sight, or a coin shaped rear sight with several holes for various distances, and using the tip of the bolt for the front sight. The hunnish bow would be similar to the bows in game, but lacking sights, instead requiring the user to manually aim down the length of the arrow with the arrow aligned to the mouth. Arrows should be compatible. (In real life, bow lengths vary, and thus so do arrow lengths, in so much as many sporting good stores offer arrow cutting, but let's ignore this for the sake of gameplay). Perhaps an item worn on the hand, the archer's glove (in western archery, perhaps craftable?) or the thumb ring (in eastern archery), would greatly increase accuracy? I suppose the museum could have older firearms from say WWI or WWII, but I would specifically just like to see better melee weapons, and that is the focus of my vision. Edit: Check out this website for neat crossbow ideas http://www.crossbows.net/index.php

A good swords weighs 2-4 lbs. They're supposed to be light.

The auto 5 is still very common. I have to ask the obligatory: are you an american? That being said, the auto-5 was made until 1998. That's right, 1998. I'd love an auto-5, they have so much character.
-
Once again, the saiga is also available in the 12 gauge. I see no merit to the 20 gauge. My father owns a 20 gauge and a plethora of 12 gauges. I use a 12 gauge every time. (I only own rifles, no shotguns. One day I'll have to get an auto-5 and a saiga) The 20 gauge just doesn't have the oomph of the 12 gauge. It's just something to clog up logistics. Use the 12 gauge, you'll be happy you did. That being said, I love the saiga and the auto 5. Amazing guns. The 20 gauge is for women and children, imo.
