A big fat M on the game will maybe drive away all the underage COD kiddies? I say add drugs! Hell, let's turn that M into an AO! Keep it mature!

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

I think the community has lost it's mind. The saiga is cheap, common, and available. Is it too "militaristic"? It looks like an evil black gun and not a civilian weapon, oh my! Guess what, aside from merely looking like some crazy weapon, it's still just semi-auto shotgun which is imported to the US as the ATF says it has sporting purpose. It's common anywhere free men can own guns, google it even in the Czech Republic. Your basic starter Remington 1100 costs more than one (what is to my knowledge the most common gas-operated shotgun). Sounds like the pinkos invaded the boards. I hope the Saiga gets added regardless because it just makes sense. Maybe the poll caster should have put in a version for the picture that wasn't tacticooled out? This is a friggin' Saiga 12 as imported into the US and owned at other places. All that tacticool crap is done custom. It requires the trigger guard be moved forward and other hard mods. -
The .22lr will not bounce around inside a skull. This is a much said urban legend. Please learn to separate fantasy from reality. However, a .22lr to the head may or may not kill you. You see, mammals don't really need much of their forebrain to survive. But leaking enough cerebrospinal fluid can eventually kill you. Case in point: phineas gauge is the prime example of this. For an instant kill to the head, you either need to mess up the forebrain enough so that the person can no longer move or think, and then they'll just bleed out csf, or hit the brainstem which controls breathing. A .22lr to the heart or brainstem should be lethal, more or less. Also, and unrelated to your post, a 5.56 and other rifle rounds of sufficient speed can become unstable in tissue, and the 5.56 has a tendency to fragment as the cannelure. This results in the 5.56 round essentially exploding in the tissue creating a much large wound.

Most of those would be either 7.62Nato, 5.56x45, .338 Lapua or .50BMG. Not at a all a problem. Sniper rifles are just glorified hunting rifles. Several of those rifles were just repeats of the remington 700 design. The WA2000 has no business in this game at all, and the rest are pretty tame, though rare. I keep asking, if this game happens in a Czech analogue, is this before or after the Velvet Revolution? Scoped bolt actions rifles aren't anything special or restrictive, except for the .50 BMG in the People's Republic of Kalifornia. Those would all have the potential to exist, to varying degrees of rarity. Anything based on a remington 700 should be very very common. Nearly everyone owns some variant of this in the states. -
Will 1 hit to the head kill them?

I don't know if this was mentioned, but the Nagant can also fire the far more common .32 S&W round. I don't know if this is relevant, but I bet the original Nagant rounds are pretty rare. Not sure how common an old anemic revolver round is either here (The .32 S&W). TBH this is a useless gun, but it'd be fun to see it in game. The CZ-52 would be more useful, and please, if you make a tt33, use the old slide with the cool grips on the slide, and not the lame new slide with simple serrations.

How about requiring the game to be 18+? If you're caught and underage, instaban until you're 18. How will people know you're underage? Squeaky voices.

No. No. No. The .308 winchester is loaded to higher pressures than the 7.62 Nato. The 5.56x45 and .223 are close enough not make much of a difference. The 5.56x45 is spitzer shaped while the .22 is not, and is heavier. It's like comparing a .30-06 to a tokarev round. The extra speed of the bullet will cause it to destabilize in tissue at a range of under 150 meters or so and explode, like many rifle rounds. The .22lr will not do this. Also, I would like to correct what I said earlier about other shotguns, there are many other true gas shotguns around, one in particular uses a sort of sleeve, the Remington 1100 (a very common gun), which holds the record for shells fired without a malfunction. However, I still like the Saiga 12. Also, the WA2000 is so rare it might as well not exist, and the PSG-1 is like 20-lbs and H&K's answer to "I can't make a reasonably acccurate semi-auto rifle". It's a crap idea. Neither of these guns should be in the game. I'd like to see more Czech guns, like the vz52 and vs58 and vz26 and the cz 805 and the zh-29 (this one is particularly interesting). All Czech rifles. Of course, the cz-75 was already mentioned that it will probably be in game. I'd like to see the type A or B of that pistol without any of the weird new mods. -
I don't understand this concept of wear. My father inherited a relative's gun nearly 100 years old and it still works fine today. It's pretty accurate; I love the thing. Even worn rifling can still produce accurate fire, and barrels can often be replaced anyway. Clearly DayZ takes place hundreds of year in the future, where guns are reasonably worn. <-joke

I own a forged carbon steel katana as well, but to be honest, I'd like a proper medieval broadsword. I just feel wonky trying to swing mine around with two hands, but I'm fairly uncoordinated. Sword collecting is a hobby of nerds everywhere, and most people I know own at least 1 sword. Maybe it's my circle eh? I'll get myself a broadsword one day. I mean, seriously, who doesn't know that 1 guy that collects swords? Even the gun stores here sell swords, sometimes nice ones. Of course, the cheap crap from head shops is more common, the stainless steel nonsense that is unbalanced and too heavy (5 lbs for a short sword? lolwat), but hey, there exists good quality hand forged swords too. I mean, when does this Day Z happen, today? In the internet age, in a now democratic post soviet state? Swords should be as common as custom built PCs. Look at the big bang theory even! Note: I'm just suggesting just katanas, but a broad range of longsword, broadswords, shortswords, and other things that are the staple of nerds.

Yes I saw, I mentioned that in my first sentence. I'm just campaigning for it. Saiga-12 in 2014. Saiga-12 for lower taxes. Saiga 12 for new jobs. Saiga 12 for a safer Amer... Chernarus. -

I think a good idea for a shotgun, and this was previously mentioned, is the Saiga 12. The Saiga 12 comes in limitless configurations: Really, the sky is the limit, and there even exists 20 round drum magazines, at least 2 different brands. Now you're thinking gasp! not more military weapons! The saiga 12 is very common in the US, even the short barrel models, as all that is required is a $200 stamp on a $600-$1500 gun, so it's not a big deal. I know Chernarus is loosely based on Czechoslovakia, or is it the Czech Republic? The Czech Republic actually has relatively high firearm ownership and such a shotgun is not unheard of there. After the Velvet Revolution, firearm ownership became a thing. Though I have to ask, is Chernarus based on Czechoslovakia, or the Czech Republic? This is a shotgun like any other shotgun, don't let the scary black furniture scare you away like some kind of pinko! Well, it's not like any other shotgun, it uses a gas tube and piston/bolt carrier combo to be much cleaner and more reliable than your typical auto-loading shotgun which uses a silly blowblack mechanism which needs more maintenance. It is more heavy than other shotguns and thus isn't as popular as many other shotguns simply because the other ones are easier to lug around when hunting or at the range. However, if you value dependability, capacity, and ease of use more so than weight, and even welcome the added weight to help absorb recoil (this is not to say it has less recoil than other hunting shotguns), this is superior as a combat shotgun. The Saiga 12 is essentially a beefed up AK designed to handle the 12 gauge round, and can even handle 3 inch shells, instead of just the normal 2 3/4 inch shells. The mags hold 8 rounds, and the drum mags can hold 20. There does exist full auto versions of this gun, which I believe would be superb for room clearing. Anyway, who is going to stop you from modifying one in the end of the world? Just look for the third pin! :D Also, the choke is interchangeable. Will we have interchangeable chokes? -
I hope that one day, this feature is removed, as it is gamebreaking. For now, I can play on hardcore servers. I said it askingly not because the round is anemic, but because the mauser kar98 is not in the game, but one day, if we're lucky, it might be. The 8mm mauser, or 7.92x57 is a potent round. And Oblivion and Skyrim have neat little compasses that guide you along the way so you can't possibly mess it up. That's what I like about DayZ, it's unapologetic, and doesn't come with little helpful hints, or a tutorial, or any kind of nanny nonsense. I feel like most games these days just want to hold your hand and make it almost a movie, and not a truly interactive game.
-
Is this game about realism or about balance? If you want balance, go play cod. I loved the brutal unapologetic nature of the mod, and would like to see that carried over to the standalone.

They meant the AK or the AKM. As said earlier, the AK-47 is the name of the prototype, which for some reason, stuck with Americans. The Ak-74 (and AK-74M) fire the 5.45x39 round instead of the M43 round (7.62x39). The AK-74M has a nifty side-folding stock that is shaped like the regular non-folding AK-74 stock and few other minor differences. Please stop calling the AK the AK-47.
-
I don't understand this. In the US, you can buy military surplus stuff in town and for cheaper often than you could civilian options. And often, a good "civilian" down jacket would probably keep you warmer. But hipsters everywhere wear old-timey military coats, just go to etsy! I own a BDU, and my father owns camouflaged hunting gear. In fact, most middle aged men I know own copious amounts of camouflage.

I'd like to see more world war II era weapons. Maybe the PPS-42? It's like a PPSH, but it uses more stamped components, has a slower rof, a better muzzle brake, and a folding stock. For a rare weird obsolete military weapon, they sure are flooding the US market, and quickly (that was sarcasm, they were mass produced, just people claim things are rare without reason)! Yours can be had stateside for $500! It also uses the 7.62x25. Also, the finns made a gun called the suomi kp-31. It's crazy accurate and uses the common 9mm round. Also, the Thompson variants use .45acp, which I believe will probably exist. PPS-42 KP-31 And we all know the thompson variants. But you might be asking, why all the love for SMGs? Easy, they don't make noise like a rifle for attracting zed. -
He is correct, please read! The AK-47 is the name of the prototype, the designation is simply AK. The AK differs from the AKM in that the AK has a birdcage flashhider and a milled receiver, compared to the AKM's slant brake and stamped receiver. The AK tends to be slightly more accurate, shaving down an inch or two in MOA. (whoop de doo) (probably due to the heavier, stiffer, and MORE EXPENSIVE receiver). With both models, you can simply press in the little dimple, unscrew the muzzle piece and attach either the slant brake or the flashhider. Personally, I'd like to see the AK-74 style compensator which is effective at reducing muzzle climb. (the real deal, not the crappy american knock-offs without the proper expansion chamber which are ineffective). There are military grade versions of this in .30 cal, but they're like 80 bucks. Bulgarian I think. A welcome addition to any AK. However, these should wreck havoc on NVG. Now repeat after me: AK, not AK-47, AK, not Ak-47. The AK is still fairly common, but nowhere near the AKM. The final game would be awesome if it included both.

I created this account to say this, but I'm sure I'll have more to say. In regards to the new SKS in the game, I have to say it is the least common variety, the Yugo 59/66, and in my opinion the ugliest and most unwieldy. I'd like to see some more variety, in particular, the Russian SKS which is more common (except int he US which has trade embargos with Russia), but for instance in Canada, the Russian variety is more common, and can be had for cheaper, as well as the chinese variety which can be had for even less. The mod had a lot of variety, and I would like to see this in the stand alone. The m4s and AKs existed ad nauseum, so maybe some love for the SKS? Bonus points for an SKS-M which can take AK mags. Edit: Also, ruger makes the mark I through III.22 pistols which should be more common, as did colt and other companies. Also, the soviet svt-40 is pretty nifty, takes a round which already exists, and can use a scope which already exists. I'd love to see it in game.
