Are we ever going to be able to start moving while taking out weapons?
randomspawn replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
It's a bit weird. I often will be running, and when I hit my hotbar for my rifle, the toon stops and draws the weapon out. I am not sure if it is when I am running from the crouched position or not, as I haven't collected enough data to be sure. Either way, it's annoying. -
I'd say that in the future, we will have more backpacks spawning all over the place to carry all the extra guns they introduce. I have it on good authority they will have 3 different shades of black backpack.

I guess you never saw the Sharknado documentary, which was based on a true story. Sharks attack both on land or in water, I've even heard of sharks on a plane, but I have never seen that myself. I fear the shark. Funny thing though, I don't fear other players. Hmm, I gotta think on that. Maybe if I had people berating me while they tried to kill me, it would strike fear into my bottomless heart. Yeah, not!

I almost always see deer from the stand in Veresnik. It's close to the unnamed military base, but does that count as a city?

Why you don't need to server hop to get geared.. ever.
randomspawn replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
This thread has kind of derailed like some of the others in this same vain. Remember the guys who play hardcore but want the camera angles in regular servers changed. Why? Same here. People complain about Berez being a death match, but the only way they could know that is if they hang around Berez watching and participating. If you spend your time in the middle of the map, you don't have a clue about Berez. Of course, you only see another player once in a very long blue-moon, but you should have no concern about Berez. I will agree that the developers need to find a way to keep interactions up, while also offering choices for those that choose to live in the woods and fishing all day. -
Well, I don't think I agree with that totally. The map is very large, especially for 40 man servers, that usually have no more than 20-30 at any given time. Everyone spawns east, so if there is no reason to hang east, they migrate west. Some explore, some go straight to NWAF, which also just got a major nerf to the loot. With this comes more diversity and spread among the players. That all sounds good except for: The most important aspect of this game is interaction with other players. That might mean death-match, or teaming up, or trading, or sitting around a campfire eating super-easy-to-kill-deer. If they change it so much that we seldom get to interact, they destroy the thing that keeps people coming back. All that being said, it is alpha, and the goal at this point isn't to make a polished finished product, but instead to test different setups and game mechanics that will be in the final product. I think the 'migrate-west' type style will work a whole lot better on servers that have 100 peeps and loot respawns. I have no problem with the migration for now, but if they don't find a way to increase the interaction again, it will lose it's appeal to a lot of players. For those that say this is a 'survival game', it's not even close to a survival game ATM. It might be later, but right now, it lacks any challenge at all, and that is the key element in a pure survival game.

Surely you haven't been to Central Texas. The deer and feral hogs are absolutely within 1000m of towns. Most cities ban hunting in city limits, and guess what, all the deer remain in the city limits. You can drive through neighborhoods and see herds of deer sometimes up to 30-40 thick. Obviously, this isn't the case around the world, but the critters go where food and water can be found, and with all our lush landscaping in the middle of an almost desert, inside cities is a very popular habitat now.

Yeah, I thought this was common knowledge too. I think a lot of people suspected it, but it was never official.

One hit wonder zombie, bug or intended?
randomspawn replied to AfterShave's topic in General Discussion
Been around for a while. I've never seen any response from Rochet regarding if it is intended or not. It stinks that they can totally ruin your gear and if you are crouched, they can one-shot kill you. -
Dean has stated he is out of here by the end of the year, and we probably won't be in Beta by then. That means the entire fine tuning of the game will occur sans Dean. BI has bough out other companies just to help development on this game. Guess what, they don't want a niche game, I think that ship sailed 3 months ago. This game is striving to be 5-10Million games sold. Who knows exactly how it will turn out, but I am fairly certain it won't be anything close to niche.
-
Yeah, the actions to dismantle NEAF, and nerf tent city at NWAF has dramatically dispersed the population across servers. It probably lessens the load on servers when everyone was typically within a mile of each other. Now, you will have people spread all out. It's probably now closer to the way it will be on release, though if they actually get to 100 person servers, you will still get some crowding.

And there is a big conundrum the developers face. If you seriously reduce the PVP element, the game will become boring for everyone, not just you. It is the thrill of the hunt(and being hunted) that keep people at the keyboards. Sure, some people will sit in the woods, shoot and skin deer, dig rocks and make campfires, but there are much better hunting games out there. These people are the outliers. The game is being developed to draw even bigger sales numbers. I think we can safely assume that BI didn't acquire this game to keep it niche. It has 2 million sales. It is being developed to get to 5 million, or 10 million. This will require game that is capable of delivering enough of multiple aspects to bring people to the cash register. The biggest driver will always be PVP. And most of the things people ask for here will just help PVP more, such as persistent storage and vehicles.

You are trying to apply a value to a resource that doesn't need a value. Very simply, the biggest obstacle to trading and bartering isn't the lack of currency, but the inability to trust the person who you are trading with. I don't think the game will develop in such a manner where bartering for food is the key to survival. As long as we have axes and bullets, you can get a greater return by killing instead of trading.

Ah yes, This is the DayZ life - Starving to Death
randomspawn replied to TheWizard14's topic in General Discussion
Okay, so now I don't know what to believe, are you even hungry at all? Does your foot hurt? Do you have weird lumps where you shouldn't? -
So I hit a fresh server early this morning, and ran through the tents at NWAF. It seems the single door tents have almost no loot now, while the pass through tents still have the typical 2-3 items per tent. Anyone else see this, or was I hallucinating? It's not necessarily bad, but it is different. It also cuts my time in half at tent city.

Ok, but facepalm is what BI should do. After all, the option for the 'view changelog' was given during the download of the new patch. If you are going to set it up to show the option for a changelog, they should at least make sure it's the current one. Yes, I know you can go here and find some stuff, reddit to find other stuff, and a couple of other places as well, but at some point, a company needs to understand that documentation is important, and not having your stuff strayed across the internet in out of date formats is necessary. Ok, I just read the changelog. I didn't see anything about loot being reduced in tent city. Oh well, I think the changelog is a placeholder anyway until they implement a better system.
-
Funny, while downloading .46 yesterday morning, I opened the Steam changelog for the game. It was for the patch version .45, which still had normal loot at airfield. I will give BI credit, they know how to absolutely screw up every type of communication regarding DayZ. One day, info will be here, others somewhere else, and never will it be consistent across the board.

If you must team up to survive, the game will lose a lot of appeal for a lot of players. Lone-wolfs love this game. Dean won't abandon them. Adding vehicles and persistent storage just make it easier for a lot of people to be bandits, not harder. The goals might change now and then, but in the end, you kill, or you die.

compass is not pointing straight
randomspawn replied to svisketyggeren's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure the compass is merely a placeholder. ;) -
Yes, but you've got Weed dude, and sometimes, weed is better than guns. Not so much when hunting deer or criminals, but you can use the weed for bait...
-
Eh, I guess it depends on your viewpoint. If you want the game grounded in realism, the magazines and guns should be together, though maybe the ammo count in the magazine should vary. For gameplay sake, we have them all separate to prevent bambi's from rising up too quickly. Neither is wrong or right, it just depends on what the goal is.

Shouldn't zombies also bleed to death eventually?
randomspawn replied to sketch814's topic in General Discussion
Here is what may be: The infection that all our Zeds have is an instant blood-clotting type disease, so that if they get injured, it clots right away, which prevents them from bleeding out. It has other symptoms too, but this one actually keeps them alive more. -
I think we sort of misunderstood the central hive thing..
randomspawn replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
About the only thing that makes the game exciting in its current format is you DON'T know what to expect. If I knew that I wouldn't get shot doing certain activities, it will make much of the game boring. TDM is a necessary evil at the moment. -
Now, I happen to agree that we have all come to understand that 'all-caps' is viewed as shouting online. Here is my question though. Are we being too sensitive? I mean, it's just letters typed on a screen. Does having them in all-caps truly make it harder to read? Should we eventually just give up and realize that we will always have a new guy or two who type in caps?

A funny encounter at the new North East Airfield.
randomspawn replied to Oyface's topic in General Discussion
Yes, I've had random gun sounds when no one is around to shoot. It scares me, and I check the ammo count in my gun to see if I accidentally fired. I didn't. Dang sound bugs.
