Eh, well we know the game will be viable for lone survivors, so I am not so sure about the need for a camp like this. Like others have said, if you have a destination that takes a long journey to reach, you can be fairly sure the only players to reach it would be at least somewhat skilled. What could you offer them that they can't get themselves? Then again putting it near spawn points opens it up to all sorts of other issues, so I wonder if this type of thing will ever be viable. I do think 'server events' where invitations are extended can be similar to this. But it won't be a permanent settlement, just a place for the day or weekend of the event. Then again, the entire map might just be a placeholder until later on, when the SA game gets a new map that is more like New York City. It's really hard to say at this point.

I am sure Rocket will personally look into this for you, since you were so genuine in your comments. Just curious, what does "this won't end up well" actually mean?

Here is an ongoing problem for the game right now. There just isn't ANYTHING else to do than PVP. You might call yourself a hero, but all you are doing is enabling someone to go and PVP. Everyone says that in the mod, all the extras like vehicles and persistent storage help prevent the KOS attitude. I wonder how it will be when they add those items to SA in late 2015. Will people still want to go through the effort to get a vehicle up and running, or will they have forgotten about them and just continue to KOS. Old habits are hard to break, and right now, the only habit we have is PVP.

I guess it depends. Depending on the neighbors, and the seasoning, it's possible the neighbors might taste better than any MRE you can find. Here is a question to ponder. End of the world type scenario, and you are stranded with just yourself and a beautiful lady from across town. What is more important, calories eaten or calories burned??? ;)

Anyone else feel humiliated when killed?
randomspawn replied to maninthewall's topic in General Discussion
I played WOW for year, so I am used to RP. Heck, not playing a role is basically playing a role, if you think about it a bit. If you are a survivor, that is a role. You might not treat it like you are RP, but you are nonetheless. Now, I have no desire to dress up like a tranny and parade around the map waving flags of peace, but I do appreciate the wide availability of styles that can play in my sandbox. I do hope we have some good ways of comm in the future, so we can understand people a bit better. What is the status of the walkie-talkies now? A couple months ago they were going to enable the text over them for long range testing, then they broke them. Did they get them fixed? -
Reminds me of one of those 'prepper' shows I saw once. A guy had some sort of tilapia farm in his old swimming pool, with pumps and plants and equipment everywhere to keep it viable, which would provide a limitless supply of protein for years to come. Meanwhile, random neighbor across the street needs one gun with one bullet to have everything that prepper has. MRE's are nice, but I ate too many in the army, and they taste like crap.

In a survival game with severely limited resources, WTF...
randomspawn replied to tootights (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
If you fixed the hitboxes, along with the lag and desync that happen during melee, that would solve most of the big issues. Maybe adding a block or tackle type move would add a bit of complexity, but I just want to see if they can ever truly solve the lag and desync. -

Never fear, the melee combat system is just a placeholder for the future. Also, ranged attacks are also placeholders for future iterations of the game. :) -
It comes up about every week here on the forums. The question will be how does it get handled between servers if it is persistent. It seems resources are very tight in this game, and wasting bandwidth on something that has minimal impact on the game might not be practical. If they ever figure out how to manage the bandwidth better, then it will be a worthwhile endeavor.

The Troubling Issue of Magazines
randomspawn replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
They are thinner than books, but take up the same amount of slots in a backpack. Also, when burnt, the fire isn't as clean due to all the colored ink in the pages. Also, I only find magazines with pictures, but I want them to...ummm....read the articles. yeah, that's it. -
earlier post indicated he had a 37 core cpu, so it is likely not the case. :P

my ideal game is killing those who live off the land so I can have their fresh shrooms.

just way way way too boring. Anyone that fished in Wow will probably never want to fish. The only reason to fish in that game was chance at awesome pet or +skill rod. Even in the future, killing people to get their flesh/loot will be more desirable than fishing for most, IMO.

And there is the rub, if you think on it. You see adding more ballistics and such to be beneficial, while others, myself included, don't see it that way at all. Do you want realism? Then spawn the guns with clips and ammo in them. 100% empty guns makes zero sense, but it does improve gameplay, imo. But I also realize that others might feel it hurts gameplay. Who is right? The 40% who feel one way, the 40% who feel the other, or the 20% who shot you for asking a question? We are all equal, but all special snowflakes at the same time. Of course, my snowflake is a slight bit better than anyone elses, but that's to be expected, right?

I play with a blindfold over my eyes, and with my fingers duct taped into a huge clubhand just to make it more interesting. I have also been known to stroke my e-peen by doing things that make no sense whatsoever, but that's just me. B)

Just curious, I see the same type of behavior if I am eating or drinking a lot in succession. I might drink 3 sodas, but only 2 of them make sounds. Same with food, it doesn't always create a sound.

Glad to hear that part suits you. I didn't seem to care for it, but I did enough hunting/fishing/crafting in WOW that I NEVER want to do it in a video game again. I did go out and shoot two deer once they implemented hunting, but it wasn't my cup of tea. The whole concept of building a fire seems bad too. Not sure why I need a rock if I am inside a garage or barn. Sticks and matches should suffice, but maybe they have a bigger plan. That being said, I haven't logged on in about a week. The game just hit a bit of a dead-spell for me, and I need a break. I suspect I will log back on soon, but I do think that Navmesh would bring me back for some playtime.

Hint, look at name of thread. It's experimental, but it's getting close. The good: no more zombies through the walls. The bad: zombies are now more of a joke and will have to be exponentially increased in numbers and strength to compensate.

How to download the dayZ mod step by step (i need help) please
randomspawn replied to Timmy111's topic in New Player Discussion
Go to the Dayz Mod forums and ask there. This forum is for the standalone. Good luck. -
I blame the OP here. He tried to destroy the fun of the hacker squad by living and defending himself. That is against all natural rules. If you don't learn how to die properly, how can the rest of us enjoy the game?

The random and constant noises in this game annoy me.
randomspawn replied to Acher0n's topic in General Discussion
Exactly, it is a feature. Also, lag, desynch, and wall-glitching have been removed from the bug list and are now considered features. But never fear, the entire game is just a placeholder until they get the real one up and ready for early-access alpha testing. -
I must be the only guy who agrees with you. If people hated the old NEAF, why did everyone go? And if you didn't, why complain, as they are people you didn't want to play with anyway? Here is what changed for me: I used to spawn, hit NEAF and Polana piano houses, and if I wasn't geared enough, server hop a couple times until I had enough. Then I would hang around NEAF and PVP. Now, I spawn, hit the North road and run to NWAF. I loot there and secret military base. I server hop until I have enough. Then I run back to Berez to PVP. What has changed except I have to run more? If you don't wanna PVP, keep hiding in the woods. If you wanna PVP, we need a couple real heavy zones to keep people engaged. Elektro used to do it for me, then it was NEAF, now it's Berez, but not as good due to player dispersion with new loot dynamic. I am bored with hunting deer and zombies. People are the only challenge. Give us 60 person servers with good reliability, and it will be perfect. That is enough to ensure I find me PVP zones without too much idle time.

Definition of Bandit vs Murderer?
randomspawn replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
You redeemed yourself with later posts, but this one spurned my reply. Here is what I see often. Other players simply don't have the insight and time devoted to accurately define other players. Example: I am about to hold you up and steal your gear. However, I suspect another player is now somewhat close to us both, and I don't want to get held up by him as I'm holding you up. So I double-tap your brains out, and grab any peaches you have. I then have time to handle Junior crawling around that back barn. Am I a bandit or a KOS'er? Does it matter in the slightest? To me, not at all. Death is but a dark pixel. It will be light again before you know it. Without death, the game grows beyond boring, it becomes stagnant. I need death to live. Whether that death is yours or mine, it doesn't matter, not to me anyway. -
when is coming the note to stay?
randomspawn replied to Shrub Rocketeer ™'s topic in General Discussion
Perhaps. 'bama has a reputation as a state, but they also have a couple very good BBQ stops, even though they have that funky mayo based sauce. One thing I've learned living in many states over the years is that every state has it's own version of hicks and hillbillies that live there. They might be more numerous in some states, but they exist just about everywhere. I don't include Vermont, Connecticut and all those other little hiccups in the NorthEast. That is just really one big state broken up into small counties -

Actually, being British doesn't count. It's 'merica or nothing baby. Where else can a gay comedian, working the cash till at the worlds best BBQ, yell out for gay rights and get a fist bump from the POTUS. That just doesn't happen anywhere else.
