I think CJ got a lot right here. I think people can handle more zombies in general, and maybe even with the way they attack. But if they don't adjust the AI controlling them, then it's just a bigger cluster, you know? I spawned in near Cherno and two zombies saw me from almost max visibility range on my computer. They ran like bandits, swam through a lake, and were on me before I could orient myself and drop my flashlight. If that is a horde, it's a sure QQ, rage quit type experience.
-
Well, since they know to run around a house to find an open door, they must be smart, right?

I've been pigeonholed!!! I like to think my lack of posts in 6 months has cleared me of such suspicions, but I guess not. Oh well. Either way, I was merely stating to OP that after playing solo for a while, he will likely want to engage more with others. Whether that is PVP or not is not really the point. The most logical scenario is teaming up for PVP, or being a solo PVP artist. It is probably hard to team up for survivalist type stuff, but I guess it's possible. The main point is he will likely want to try all the ways to play, and decide from there what he wants long-term. Nothing like a few consecutive ladder deaths to make you mad though. Hopefully that will be fixed one day, but until then, be careful where you climb.
-
Yes, it's all that, and then some. Eventually, you will probably want to shift from solo more encounter type play. That will be fun too. Then the next question will be how do you handle the glitches. You work for a long time with your character, having a nice collection of gear, and some glitch allows you to slip on a ladder/stairs, or maybe go through a rail that should support you. YOU ARE DEAD! What do you do? The first few times it's sickening, but you get back on your horse anyway. After 10, or 20 times, is it worth it to you? I have died a lot more to glitches than to other players. I took a few months off, and am back again now. The only difference in the game really is the persistence and huge increase in the loot types. The only thing that really excites me is the upcoming renderer upgrades.

Why has it been 2 years that zombies go through doors ?
randomspawn replied to paradogz's topic in General Discussion
Simple rounding error. And if you think about it, once it has been 2 years, that is almost the same as 5 years if you round up again. -
People have been complaining about zombies being too easy since release. You finally get a challenge and off you go crying. Some people!!!
-
I like to shoot medics just to see if they will come here and make posts crying about it. Funny, it is.
-
Nope, new character. Each death you get a clone of your old character and start anew. It's a tough world for clones, but that's the way it is.
-
If you think about it, that is your characters 'only' death. The next death will be a different character.

Are we really to the point of posting screenshots of our gear? Come on, that's like posting selfies on Facebook or something. We don't need it, not when gear is this easy to obtain. Now, if you could 'scalp' each player you killed, and carry those scalps on a belt or something, then that might be worth sharing. Other than that, why bother...

Has dayZ succeeded in being a different type of game?
randomspawn replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
I don't have a lot of confidence the loot will ever get rare. I have a suspicion it might decrease 50% max, which will still be plenty. I hope for awesome hunting, survival and zombie mechanics, but I just haven't seen enough development in those critical areas to assume it will still happen. -
Funny, only the rarity of the item gives it any type of value? The antistab vest is weak-sauce in the game, and you have no reason to keep it. That being said, if they ever introduce battle-royal knife fights, you will be prepared.

Well, I was responding to someone who said their gun laws were so much better than those in the US. I would assume that having an infection in their country would not make the citizens lawless, would it? Would they really start breaking the law and keep ammo and guns together? I doubt it... ;) If the problem is weapons accessibility, just limit the weapons. What is wrong with that? Why create artificial scenarios where people never have ammo and guns together during a ZA? Just make the gun spawns a set percentage less likely to occur, but give most of them the needed magazines, and occasionally ammo too.
-
Yes, imagine this scenario: "Honey, there are a bunch of zombies at the door, can you talk to them?" "Will do darling." gets gun from safe, walks to other secure area and gets clip. walks to other area and gets ammo. walks outside and shoots zombies. walks back in and places ammo back into storage. walks back to other room and places clip in storage. walks back to safe and places gun in storage. "There honey, I spoke with them, it's all good now" "okay, thanks dear" Yes, its such a realistic system they have there. I see it happening just like I described. Bash us poor cowboys all you want, but we won't be stupid enough to leave clips and ammo away from our guns in a ZA. The developers putting an artificial control onto something to try and compensate for failures elsewhere. They should make it as realistic as possible. It would require them to spawn the guns with clips and possible chance at some ammo too, but just reduce the overall number of guns. Not hard. and it eliminates the stupid problem we have now.

I see why you have 'new' in your name. Just imagine how fun it would be to run from town to town and just stash loot in a tent that no one ever finds. Why, the enjoyment would be............boring. Now, BBC has a decent plan to being a bit of fun into the game, without hanging directly in Berezino. Kudos to him. Well done sir.
-
Exactly, it DOES NOT have persistent storage, if you go by their tweets on the reddit instagram feed from eharmony, though you can't always be 100% that info is correct.
-
What gives you the idea the implementation will be logical? I would say that is a very large leap of faith on your part.

the new girls/robots/crackheads in town
randomspawn replied to DropBearChick's topic in General Discussion
Trouble here, but I'm a guy, and I can tell you I spent the better part of 15 years as a hormone driven idiot who had almost no control over my own thoughts. It's extremely troubling, especially knowing that I have two daughters rapidly approaching teen years. Yes, there are some guys that seem to not be driven so much, or just have better control, but I truly believe that most guys just aren't able to control all the crap that is going on inside our heads. I know that a lot of people will disagree, but my 40+ years of life have driven this opinion very deeply into my brain. -
EXP - Map now shows the players exact position
randomspawn replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
I don't understand your position here. What are people supposed to do about maps? As for WT's, I like them, if they work with the text like they did before. It provides an optional 'global chat' that doesn't take away from others that don't care for it. It's about as perfect a solution as you can have. -
Eh, well we know the game will be viable for lone survivors, so I am not so sure about the need for a camp like this. Like others have said, if you have a destination that takes a long journey to reach, you can be fairly sure the only players to reach it would be at least somewhat skilled. What could you offer them that they can't get themselves? Then again putting it near spawn points opens it up to all sorts of other issues, so I wonder if this type of thing will ever be viable. I do think 'server events' where invitations are extended can be similar to this. But it won't be a permanent settlement, just a place for the day or weekend of the event. Then again, the entire map might just be a placeholder until later on, when the SA game gets a new map that is more like New York City. It's really hard to say at this point.
-
I am sure Rocket will personally look into this for you, since you were so genuine in your comments. Just curious, what does "this won't end up well" actually mean?
-
Here is an ongoing problem for the game right now. There just isn't ANYTHING else to do than PVP. You might call yourself a hero, but all you are doing is enabling someone to go and PVP. Everyone says that in the mod, all the extras like vehicles and persistent storage help prevent the KOS attitude. I wonder how it will be when they add those items to SA in late 2015. Will people still want to go through the effort to get a vehicle up and running, or will they have forgotten about them and just continue to KOS. Old habits are hard to break, and right now, the only habit we have is PVP.

I guess it depends. Depending on the neighbors, and the seasoning, it's possible the neighbors might taste better than any MRE you can find. Here is a question to ponder. End of the world type scenario, and you are stranded with just yourself and a beautiful lady from across town. What is more important, calories eaten or calories burned??? ;)

Anyone else feel humiliated when killed?
randomspawn replied to maninthewall's topic in General Discussion
I played WOW for year, so I am used to RP. Heck, not playing a role is basically playing a role, if you think about it a bit. If you are a survivor, that is a role. You might not treat it like you are RP, but you are nonetheless. Now, I have no desire to dress up like a tranny and parade around the map waving flags of peace, but I do appreciate the wide availability of styles that can play in my sandbox. I do hope we have some good ways of comm in the future, so we can understand people a bit better. What is the status of the walkie-talkies now? A couple months ago they were going to enable the text over them for long range testing, then they broke them. Did they get them fixed? -
Reminds me of one of those 'prepper' shows I saw once. A guy had some sort of tilapia farm in his old swimming pool, with pumps and plants and equipment everywhere to keep it viable, which would provide a limitless supply of protein for years to come. Meanwhile, random neighbor across the street needs one gun with one bullet to have everything that prepper has. MRE's are nice, but I ate too many in the army, and they taste like crap.
