Military barrack, have they become 'minor' loot building
randomspawn replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
Or, you can make the argument that the military bases were the last places standing, with the well-armed soldiers holding out better than the civilians in the towns. Therefore, no one was left to loot the military bases. At no point, has the lore said the military bases were raided. I do understand why you may want it that way, but truthfully, if you take away all 'hot spots' on the map, the game will lose it's appeal to a huge percentage of players. Considering the dev's are adding things like SVD's and new high powered scopes, I feel they are encouraging a game with a lot of PVP action, along with all the survival and zed stuff. -
Military barrack, have they become 'minor' loot building

Yeah, I hope that is what the goal of CLE is. I agree 100% that as you get further away from said location, the likelihood of that style loot should fade. I don't expect to find many fishing nets in a castle up in the mountains, and a military sword should seldom ever spawn in a school on the coast. -
I've read that as well, but I've seen some suspicious looking loot arrangements right after a reset that makes me think some persistence is present.

It's a feature, not a bug... :P -
Actually, that is a space alien in disguise. Just like E.T. hid in the dolls back in the day, these new aliens blend in with tents, and often wrap themselves up like a giant burrito. I need :beans: for my burrito.

You are a hero, and a model citizen too. I admire your work, and all you do for our community. Drive on, and don't give up the good fight. Never let the man keep you down. The cream always rises to the top. It is your world and we are lucky to live in it. :D

To make matters worse, these events are only dynamic when the server is wiped. The only people that have benefited the last few months are those first few who log on after a wipe, and loot the choppers. Once that rare loot is gone, it stays gone and doesn't come back. It's very tricky, and the solution isn't super easy. Should dynamic events happen every restart, which puts a lot of M4 into player hands, or just on wipes, which makes it very unfair for 99% of the players who can't log on in the first few minutes. Or once a day, or once a week, or whatever?

I run slow, is it lag, or something else?
randomspawn replied to emuthreat's topic in General Discussion
For me, frame rates were always a killer. I tested this on some railroad tracks in the north. When running west, my frames were awesome, and my speed was high. When I turned east(toward Svetlojarsk), my FPS dropped, and my speed dropped a lot as well. This was after they put in Svetlojarsk, which was a huge FPS killer on my laptop. Anytime I faced that city, my FPS dropped by 50-80%. I have reduced my settings over the last year and it has gotten better, and with the tweaks from DayZ engine, I now can handle that city pretty good. One day, I will upgrade my PC, but until then, I stutter/suffer in areas. -
I got a much worse computer, with a Core 2 Duo 2ghz, P7350, and an ATI radeon 4500 with 512mb ram. It's not fast, and it can overheat. I put a cooling pad under the laptop and I do pretty good. I won't even both looking at new gear until I see a final release on this game. Xmas time might be a good idea as to what system specs we will need.

PSA: Game development takes a while, but...
randomspawn replied to Beizs's topic in General Discussion
I just don't see the reason for this thread at all. People that are happy will still be happy, and those that aren't will still be upset. Yes, we all know how projects work, and we also know that if you give a deadline to a computer programmer/team, they will likely miss that deadline by 50% or more. It's the way it is. Programmers spend too much time drinking Mountain Dew and eating pudding, and not enough time coding... :D -
Going bandit hunting before wipe tonight
randomspawn replied to vfxtodd's topic in General Discussion
I must admit, all this banter back and forth from OP, and he got the whole details of the wipe wrong. Silly wabbit, trix are for kids... -
I think you know why they reverted the changes in the CLE last patch. You just choose to ignore them as being valid. You can always just play EXP, as it's got what you are looking for, at least in regards to scarcity of loot. CLE has a lot of potential, but we have seen that it can also be absolutely horrible, based on server conditions. I think it is the correct path, but it will likely be a couple months of a very difficult transition until they get the major bugs worked out.

You are very optimistic. I say 1.9 before it's fixed.

It's a catch 22. From what I can tell, you have around a 25% success rate with an apple pick attempt. If you can get apples at double the rate, people might not bother hunting. Not for sure, but possible. I do agree with everyone here about hunting and trapping and farming, and all that other jazz, but truly, if you don't study the game offline, and learn how to do this stuff, you will probably never figure it out in-game. It almost goes against a survivalist mindset, having to almost metagame just to figure out how to not starve. I am not a fan of hand-holding like new toons get in WOW and other games, but it is tricky learning how to find rocks, craft them into knives, get sticks, improvised bows and finally into hunting, or trapping or what ever else you wanna do. I don't like farming, but the efficiency of pumpkin farming will probably have me doing it come .56. Of course, if you can't find a water container(I spent hours looking on exp and couldn't find one), then it's all moot.

They are fun, but like OP said, you see the one zed running for you, an axe to the head, and next thing you know, there is a train of 10 more on you. You can axe the crap out of them, but you can also get knocked unconscious before you kill them all. It changes the PVE elements somewhat. They hit weaker now, but the swarms make up for it. Also, when you are engaging them, you become a huge and easy target for any other player. All the desync crap makes experimental difficult now, but it might be GRANDE when they figure that out.
-
Don't worry. For now, just hop to military base near vybor and there will be so much loot you can't carry it in 20 trips. Don't implement a new timer until we figure out .56 and how the new loot economy is going to work. It might solve the issue by itself.

We want... a shrubbery!

looks like .56 will be a character wipe..saw msg in server earlier
randomspawn replied to thewire's topic in General Discussion
Do we have an ETA on the patch for stable? Just curious when I should plan on endless gunfights... -
You are still confused, but that is okay. The OP gets at least triple what dayz requires, so he is okay. It doesn't account for lag spikes and such, but it will work.
-
I tend to agree with this more than earlier posters. Backpacks seem to be just as persistent as tents. I haven't seen anything disappear from them yet. I have taken off vests though, and they disappear after the next reset. As far as I can tell, backpacks and tents are safe, everything else is a crapshoot.

You have some funky ideas about internet speed, or at least the way you interpret them. You keep saying he only gets 200-300k, but he told you at the beginning he gets 1.5m, which is 1500k. You are crossing bits and bytes, even though all we are talking are bits.

DayZ is the greatest game ever made
randomspawn replied to ColdAtrophy's topic in General Discussion
That excited!?!?!? Well, .56 probably won't hit stable for 3-5 weeks, so you got some time to play. I would say stockpile, but I do suspect we might see a persistence wipe on .56 release. -
Holy necro Batman, and an almost identical topic on the front page too.
-
Loot system is a hybrid of two broken systems. Different servers seem to have different levels of loot due to persistence. Check back after .56 hits and see how it is then.

PSA: don't enter vehicle that is touching a tree
randomspawn replied to treetop82's topic in General Discussion
Ok, I got a truck stuck in the rock texture at nwaf, right beside the quanset hut barracks. The rock is about half the size of the truck. Will the bullet trick work here? I won't be able to log in until Sunday though.
