Hey guys, a lot of people have been asking which servers are up and currently running. I'd also like to know before I download the latest build. Are any Australian servers up? How many servers are running worldwide? If anyone could let us know that would be great.

Agreed, and I don't think Dean will allow any torture mechanics that don't add any gameplay features to the game such as cutting off limbs etc. I do believe that the corpses of dogs (and potentially humans) will be able to be prepared into meat to cook/eat as it's a realistic survival option.

Meaningful Customization - II: Temperature and Wetness

Great ideas, I'd like to see them implemented in the game. The more things to worry about other than players the better. I imagine these wouldn't be too hard to implement either by just giving wetness values to all items etc. -
To be honest ALL spawn points should be around the Cap (south-east). As soon as you add ANY chance of spawning near Cherno/Elektro/Berez/Svet, EVERYONE that respawns commits suicide until they're there. Any time I spawn near Three Valleys or Factory of anywhere, I see piles of bodies at the nearest ladder. By moving all the spawns to the Cap, you put the main hotspots (Cherno Airfield and Berez/NEAF) at the furthest possible distance away. This makes people act carefully and values their character's lives more.

On the topic of harming in-game animals, I understand both sides. On one hand, there is opportunity for abuse of in-game animals... But on the other hand, we are already able to handcuff, strip and torture human players. I also think the potential death of an in-game companion animal adds to the "Hardcore" nature of the game. It's an added incentive to stay alive and keep your companion alive. Obviously it would have to be implemented tastefully, but the vision of the game is to be an "open world survival simulator", meaning if it's possible in real life, it should be possible in game. The more morals that are questioned, the more immersion people will feel in the game and the more careful they will be not to die.

By applying a lowpass filter you'd get a great effect (rolling off all high frequencies) Sounds like a good, realistic and easy to achieve idea, I'd be pretty confident devs will add this at some point.

Me and my mate play this server religiously. We always meet interesting people who don't just KoS, and I love that it isn't 24/7 daylight. We've had some scary night-time encounters with hordes of zombies and other players. Cheers! -
I know, but it makes gore and other mature themes easier to pass because they can rate it as R18. In the past we only had MA15, so everything had to be appropriate for 15 year olds.

We have an R18+ rating in Australia now so it shouldn't be a big issue, and you can commit suicide any ANY game imaginable. I doubt DayZ will be banned here in the end.

I reckon they just need to limit the gamma parameters. I mean no one seriously NEEDS the gamma to be that high. It would still be good to have some flexibility but not the ridiculous legacy-contrast-looking settings. On top of that, it would be good to see some long-term light sensitivity.

Maybe a simple mechanic could be to add a separate "health"value that determines how fast you use up energy/hydration. Eating unhealthy foods would decrease this value which in turn causes your energy to deplete faster. You could then keep drinking soda etc but you would then lose energy faster. Eating full meals would give a bonus to the value which would in turn let you keep energy for longer.

If I find heaps of pistol ammo/mags I usually use them to kill zombies and save ammo for SKS/Mosin.

I'm not sure if it's implemented yet, but you can't turn around as quickly with a rifle compared to a pistol. -
You'd think if they were going to port it to Xbox/Playstation they'd do OSX as well. But we will have to see haha.

Yeah I'd love to see some stuff like this in the game. As well as throwing items making noise and attracting Zeds, or at least making some of them curious as to what it was. I also think that Zeds should consume dead players bodies. So like, you kill someone or someone dies, and you have to loot their body quickly before Zeds start eating it/ruining gear. After a while, the body would start to smell and attract zombies, which would use the same mechanics as the "bait" suggestion. Something like that would create a loot sink and would be great for the in-game economy.

I'd love a Mac port, I'm sure they will once the game is released or maybe in late beta.
