    Poor performance?

    You might have to re-check your Power Management Options in the Nvidia Control Panel for DayZ again. The update may have wiped your preference to "Prefer Maximum Performance" instead of the default "Adaptive" which means DayZ will assume your GPU is much worse than it really is.     When I was a total newb back in January I decided to check out that shipwreck to see if there was any loot on it... nothing at all there for sure. But I decided to search the rest of the island and even at this stage way back then they had zombie spawns there. It was actually one of my first zombie encounters and I think after discovering there was no loot in any of the houses there or the lighthouse ( :P) I bled out after getting hit cos I didn't know you could tear up your shirt for rags lol... Ahhh the days of discovery and exploration ;)

    But then is the gun we have in game a fictional gun? They don't seem to have done this at all yet with the weapons (other than the names just for copyright reasons)

    Yeah the noises sound much louder client side than they actually appear for everyone else. As you'll have noticed you can get pretty easily jumped by other players (especially if there's some desync or the server is lagging because their noises just somehow don't register or get from the server to you). But as you mentioned, rolling is so far the only way to move silently but eventually I think they've said they will add noise to this (makes sense - how could you silently roll over with a backpack full of stuff????). The guy at police station most likely saw you in a window if it was far away, the noises dont carry too far.

    Dealing With Loss

    I do feel the hatred of other players when they kill me or manage to steal my stuff. But after 400hrs I've come to think of it as better than having your gear just disappear at server reset. You're gear has got a kind of legacy and it's quite interesting to think of what journey the loot you originally gathered will take after you lose it. How many players does that gun you found at the airfield go through before it's finally lost at a reset? Therefore the work you put in to gathering it has not been lost, its benefits just no longer lie with you. Your initial work has now given a greater benefit to the whole of the DayZ society in a way. This is probably impossible but I imagine has already been thought of, but it would be such an awesome thing if somehow you could track gear and just see what path it takes and where it ends up after you lose it. Would make a great story I imagine :P

    DayZ SA is running the Real Virtuality 3 Engine [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Virtuality_(game_engine) ] which is the same as the TakeOn Helicopters engine which is kind of an equivalent of Arma 2.5 , basically a modded version of OA engine with bits of A3 as well

    Okay, this might sound a little silly but when you think about it it's actually quite a cool idea. Atm obvs it's impossible to tell how long any character you kill has been alive for. To some people the length of time their character has been alive is seen as some kind of trophy but unfortunately they have no way of proving it. BUT, what if you could tell the age of male characters by the length of their facial hair (and maybe even their actual hair)? (And maybe female characters by the length of the hair on their head). As a bambi everyone starts off clean-shaven (or short hair as a female). As you survive longer and longer in the wasteland you're character would naturally become scrubbier and this could be used to tell how long you've survived for. I'm not an expert but I can't imagine that updating your character's face model after say every 12 hours or so survived in game would be too difficult? I just think this would add to the game's immersive feeling and also give those long time survivalists something to show for their hard work :P + Also this would kind of reward these survivors for surviving so long by making them more camouflaged! What do you think?

    1. Surely the alcohol tincture counts? 2. I'd say that's not realistic either - unless there's a heatwave and none of that Chernarussian grass has any moisture or all those trees are dead I can't see the fire spreading much. The game doesn't look like it's set at a particularly dry period. But yeah seriously, I tried this even during a very hot period in the summer, jacksh*t happened to the rest of the garden :P

    But I don't think that DayZ is supposed to follow on from the story, firstly because there were so many different endings and secondly that they mainly involved the withdrawal/destruction of US equipment in Chernarus.

    It's a lovely helicopter, but why the hell would there be one in the Chernarussian Air Force? The only vehicles should be relevant to the scene - Mi8 / Mi17s.

    Well I don't see what would be wrong with having relevant aircraft such as the Mi-8 or Mi-17. I don't see why it would be implausible to find a Mil Mi-17 in one of the airfield hangars... You can't leave out these beauties ;)

    Are you referring to SilentSentry finding the hacked M4 rounds last night? In response, yes I think it does because he would very well know that it was exploiting the game. The only reasonable course of action would be to ditch it in the woods where no one would find it before reset.

    Too North East / Coastal Focused?

    I appreciate that the over-Coastal focus of SA has been discussed many times before but I wanted to raise the issue of how the NE looks like it is receiving too much attention from the devs, instead of inland areas, especially atm with current patches. The issue of the coastal focus of the game has been raised a lot and we've been told that once vehicles come in then the map will be opened up much more. However, it still doesn't look like the devs take this seriously. Especially when we see that in the latest and upcoming updates we've had Chernaya-Polana and Karmanovka added to the NE, literally a stone's throw away from the airfield. Added with Svetlojarsk, this is really just shifting the focus of the game away from Cherno and Elektro (which is a good thing) but to just another coastal area. What is the point of the northern border of the map or central towns like the Sobors? There are either no people or no loot. In the mod the Sobors used to be serious hotspots but now there's literally no point when you've got so much stuff centralised around Berezino or Elektro. What do you guys think? Devs should be making some sweet military bases / kitted out towns in the central areas and maybe central-North?

    He gets it! Exactly the same. I know people complain a lot about how PvP or KoSing is bad but honestly, there's nothing more team-binding than getting assaulted by an unknown, hidden malicious player/group and subsequently spending the next 30mins clinically executing them with your friends :P ahhhhh the memories :lol: But yeah if my squad mates stopped playing then I'd run out of reasons to play immediately.

    why do YOU play DayZ?

    I like to play because me and my squad enjoy surviving and sweeping the north-east and Berezino of bandits. We enjoy the squad vs squad aspects which really gave the game more appeal to me after I had kind of mastered the "lone-wolf" play style after 100hrs or so. Now I'm on 420hrs and counting and loving every bit of it. So ultimately it's about the shared experiences with friends (most of whom I met on DayZ) and the adrenaline pumping moments of risking it all in combat. I can live that post-apocalyptic life that I sometimes visit in my sleep ;)

    I totally disagree with this. Of course we already have hotspots. The point is they are basically all in the same area - people have been to all of them and in total there's not much diversity to the game when there very easily could be. I've seen many people get tired of having the only player interaction at the coastal areas. Instead of perfecting a very well made region, I think it's the task of alpha to be focusing on broadening the focus on the entire map (this is a bigger priority). More than anything, the perfection of areas such as the NE should be for beta.

    Also getting into a firefight with only bandages in my trousers / assault vest. Subsequently get shot, bandages get ruined and then bleed out :'(
