Looking back, Do you think that EA release was a good idea?
tatchell (DayZ) replied to c00lface's topic in General Discussion
No, what you said was irrelevant and you're not worth the time. So can you actually give me some kind of relevant answer to the argument that you insisted on butting in to? Or are you really too "dumb" as you put it? -

Yes "silly you". You're clearly too incapable to even bother trying to argue about what was even being discussed. Try reading posts properly cos everything your saying is irrelevant. Pretty pathetic tbh. Just try answering this question - has early access been merely to line the pockets of BIS? This is what we were talking about before you came along. -

tatchell (DayZ) replied to c00lface's topic in General Discussion
Okay, let me clear this up for you because you seem to be too simple to understand anything I'm saying. Firstly, the original argument that I was having was about whether or not Early Access was merely just a "cash-grab" driven by financial interests, suggesting that BIS don't care for the demand for EA or the fact that the final product would benefit from testing. I was and am arguing that it cannot have been this case because it doesn't make sense due to the fact that the most profitable tactic would not have been to allow and EA at all as this reduces their total revenue. Your premise that all of SA's hype has come from the mod. That is just untrue. Standalone has attracted it's OWN interest, not just piggy-backed off the mod's success. First evidence would be that already more people are now playing SA in it's Alpha phase than the total number of players that have ever played the mod. These new players clearly didn't care about the mod (like myself) because we didn't get it. SA has attracted people due to the hype specifically about SA. Not mod hype. SA hype. Clear? You're saying that by releasing the game only when it's finished will mean people will no longer be interested in DayZ. The hype will have "faded away". This is also just wrong. Look at so many games that have had large gaps between 2 releases. Let's think about Tomb Raider for example. People didn't lose interest in the franchise because there was a long wait between the earlier releases and the modern releases. In fact as time goes on between releases there is more interest because there is a growth in a renewed novelty factor. So the success of BF3 after so long since the BF2 release is an example. So, let's imagine that BIS finish making this game at the end of 2015. If they wanted to make as much money as possible they would have decided to release the game when it was finished, so 2016. The marketing strategy would clearly not be to start hyping up a game that won't be finished for another 3 years (which is what has happened, as the SA was first announced in 2012), they would do it at a sensible time before release. Otherwise this would maybe have seen interest tail off as we are possibly seeing now. So, in response to your silly point, NO THEY WOULD NOT HAVE LOST MONEY BY RELEASING THE GAME LATER BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT HAVE PUBLICISED IT AS EARLY AS THEY HAVE DONE. The hyping up would have been later and the release would have been later. Do you understand? Have I lost you yet? Therefore, to prove my ultimate point that EA is not a "cash-grab", what BIS has done by offering us access to the Alpha is forfeiting interest in the game (=profit) in order to create a better product by testing it and also allowing 2 million people so far to get the game at a discount. Therefore it is pretty fucking obvious that they are not trying to optimise their profits from SA or else they're doing an awful job at it. What BIS has done is please hardcore fans by giving in to strong demand for EA. This has forfeited profit by allowing many people to get a discount. This has also meant that the game will lose "hype" because people will know about it and what it's like for a very long time before it is finished. The only thing here that actually benefits BIS is the fact that the testing will allow their product to be better. The people who really win out of this are us. This is what I am arguing, EA has not been a financially logical decision other than allowing for the improvement of the product. What do you not understand? -
Beards :P use em to tell how long you've been going for roughly http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/163035-beards/

Yeah I could imagine finding a parachute spawn rarely in the hangars and maybe sometimes in aircraft themselves. As said, loads of potential uses (rain-catcher) so they'd be a great item to get even now, before we get vehicles. I like the idea of this but why not just look for parachutes for everyone who's going to fly before you go? It just seems a little bit pointless if in order to get the upgrade you'd probably need to find a whole load of chutes and well... yeah :p

Hey guys, I've seen there has been lots of interest in swords such as katanas but very logically people have objected on the grounds of continuity. So therefore, I'd like to propose we can find the odd soviet shashka, swords that have been used in the Caucasus since the 12th Century. The swords were adopted by the Cossacks in both Russia and Ukraine and were even used during the early soviet era. Thus I think that it is not implausible to find such a sword as a rare item in an ex-Soviet state in the area. So here are some photos: Beautiful isn't it? So I guess it should be relatively rare, as powerful as a fire axe but beneficial as it's more agile and quicker to use. Maybe when they implement stabbing for bayonets this could also be used in that way too? Anyways, so would be people like to see something like this?

Maybe something that could be found in the piano house very rarely - like the owner's collectors item? Would be cool if we had a museum too though.

tatchell (DayZ) replied to c00lface's topic in General Discussion
There is way too much wrong with your post.. Firstly, I was not saying that they could have just released alpha at full price - i was stressing that they actually even bothered. They didn't need to. (I did not say they could have charged full price for alpha). They could have done what the vast majority of games do and hold back and release full version for full price. If they had not been hyping it up years before it would be finally complete then people would not lose interest. This would mean way way more revenue than before. BUT instead they decided to bring it out earlier (judging by Dean's efforts to raise awareness ages back) to improve the quality of the end product, whilst forgoing a lot of potential profit they could have made otherwise. I can assure you that companies can look at the long term instead of grabbing as much cash as possible in the short run. BIS is not a plc driven by shareholders demanding short term gain from dividends. They can afford to make less out of DayZ in order to have a better reputation in the long run for getting the end product right (unlike many large games companies that are plcs eg EA which release shoddy unfinished products like BF4 without caring for the long term consequence of a ruined reputation). And to address your point about competition and market size - just look at how many games are trying to get into the survival genre now. If DayZ had been held back and released when finished they could have stormed a much larger market than it is now with the reputation of being the original apocalypse survival game. This would have clearly made a lot more than what is happening now. Lots of people buying in early, saving money and far less people left to buy at full price when it's finished. Finally, so far the evidence suggests the opposite of what you're saying. Already BIS have expanded the number of teams working on DayZ which to me looks like reinvestment into the production process. I'm sorry but in this case you're wrong, despite your experience. -
Looking back, Do you think that EA release was a good idea?
tatchell (DayZ) replied to c00lface's topic in General Discussion
Lol seriously? Early access at reduced value points to anything BUT "cash grab" because they will make less money than only releasing when finished at full price. This is basic maths man, revenue maximisation would be if they sold x million copies all at full price of (say) £30 each rather than 0.3x million at £20 and then ONLY 0.6x million at full price. By giving us all early access THEY WILL MAKE LESS MONEY in the end. The only possible motive to bother releasing it earlier for less profit would be to actually get some of this early revenue to accelerate and improve the dev process (buying more dev teams etc) in the hopes that the final product will be better. Can you imagine how long it would take / how buggy it would be on release without this process? -

Fuck elektro, was shit on the fps anyway :p it is a shame berezino is becoming busier though, me and my group used to love wiping the daring squads that bothered coming north lol, now it sounds like everyone is on the way here we won't be able to have exclusive and intimate deathmatches :(

I think your best bet is reinstallation / at least validate the local files as mentioned. Shouldn't affect you in any way considering your character is locked to your steam account (you have nothing to lose other than 5gb of download). But you shouldn't be worried about that data usage anyway cos you're gaming online :p

I do believe you and it does make more sense, but from a quick google search I can't find where that's confirmed. Do you mind giving us a link to where this is clarified just to clear any doubt amongst those who might think otherwise? -

I understand that this doesn't agree with the original Haitian term "zombie" meaning a corpse which has been animated by voodoo but I the word zombie hasn't kept this original meaning in popular culture at all. Plenty of zombie movies call them zombies when they are in fact infected people. And if there was an actual virus/infection that could do this in real life, I reckon you can count on people referring to them as zombies (Hollywood has been preping them for half a century this way). -

I agree with you that this would be the most immersive setting for the game. Certainly the most post-apocalyptic with the game features that this should really have (like cannibalism!). Never tried DayZ 2013 but I agree with OP that we should at least have some kind of clarity given maybe in the splash screen about when this is set (obviously when the game is finished [this isn't a priority]) -

tatchell (DayZ) replied to c00lface's topic in General Discussion
Look, either way, whether this was released to cash in on Xmas sales or due to high demand, both situations mean that early release was a good idea. 1. More money for funding development 2. People who wanted it to be released can play it (people who dont can wait) Seriously, this is stating the obvious. So really I dont think that people should complain, otherwise, as said, wait till final release like you would have had to. -

Please explain in what ways this game is unplayable? Let's be honest here, the amount of glitches is very low and if you're aware of them, entirely avoidable. The zombie ability to walk through walls can also be handled by their relative ease to kill. The major issues dont make this game unplayable to me."Unplayable" for me would be crashing regularly, character wipes very regularly and unplayable desync. However, these issues are now extremely rare. With all due respect, I think you're completely wrong. This game is definitely playable. -
How often do you find a Long Range Scope?
tatchell (DayZ) replied to TheRealDen's topic in General Discussion
I'd say they're rare if you're actually trying to find them at loot spawns (not too sure about the tents though)... BUT if you just wait on the apartment roof in Lower Berezino on a full server you'll be able to get one within 15 mins pretty much guaranteed with the amount of noobs who log in ON TOP OF THE ROOF lol. BANG, crawl, rummage, thanks for the LRS :P And soooo many of them don't check their 6, you can sneak up that ladder on the northern block whilst they're too busy scoping in for a full minute. Crawl up to the roof divide and ther're easy pickings for you even with a handgun B) With this tactic I can regularly get my hands on an LRS as a fresh spawn within a quarter of an hour hehehe -
