New spawns are deadly....kos Military geared are deadly....kos ...maybe we should all just wear yellow rain coats.

To be perfectly honest, I truely do not believe zombie damage and getting shot are no where close to "stable." Each encounter I have is so wildly unpredictable that I can never guage how damage is calculated, if at all. I think the damage mechanic for everything is still a RNG crap shoot. Sometimes you win, most times you lose. That whole aspect of the game still needs major tooling.

Wow, just saw this thread after making a similar one myself. There's my 3rd "I did what?" moment.

Sometimes we do stupid shit. Here's two random situations that I found amusing. Was scoping out Berezino from a treeline when the server restarted. When I logged back in I was literally standing face to face with my former self. Wondering why my guy was just standing there I figured he was a ghost from the restart so I thought I'd be cheeky and 1 shot myself in the head. I watched my former self slump over and face down so naturally I went along my merry way. Some time goes by and the restart message happens again. Upon logging in this time, I was a fresh spawn. Had no idea killing my former self would erase the character I was currently on. I was pimped out pretty nice too. lesson learned. A couple days later I was again in Berezino searching for a PU scope. I found one on top of the gray 3 story police station. While I was attaching it to my sks, I heard zed aggro and took a peek over the edge and saw a player ax'ing it. I thought for a second and decided to take a shot at him. You know, to see how well my new scope worked. Before I could get a bead on him, he ran into the police station, unaware of my presence. I decided to head downstairs and see if I could make contact. Upon rounding the corner to the second level I ran straight into him and another guy, which I assume was his buddy. The other guy turned toward me with either an sks or a mosin drawn. At this point fight or flight kicked in and the details became sketchy. I aimed in with my 1911 and popped off 3 shots to his torso. As he was slumping forward, I began to aim in on the second guy. Right before I could pull the trigger I realized I just fell off the second story ledge and fractured my leg upon hitting the ground. I frantically reached for a morphine, injected myself, and was able to stand up and run to the back side of the building. If his partner was more aware, he would of realized what had happened and had plenty of time to run outside and finish me off. I said to myself, "what an idiot" realizing as I was shooting those 3 shots I was instinctively walking backwards and not even realizing I would fall out of the window. I decided against moving forward and finishing off the second guy. I figure he was either shitting himself, or laughing hysterically at my stupidity. We've all done ridiculous things like this at some point in our Dayz adventures. Share 'em if ya got 'em.

Wait, 50 in one day? How many hours did you sit up there? I'm lucky to see maybe 4 in a couple hours of playing, and thats all the way from Elektro to Berenzino. I applaud your tenacity.

speaking of ground / object deflection...that and having the reload upon log in removed is another annoyance. hearing that sound has been the difference between that person killing me, and me killing them since I was made aware of his presence when hearing that sound.

5 pages and I still don't get it. You keep making the same rebuttal about the release of the game to the public (paying 30 dollars is irrelevant). "This is alpha" is an excuse drummed up by the public. When has Dean Hall posted on these forums saying "alpha is alpha?" When has a developer tweeted that "alpha is alpha?" Not once, ever, that I can recall. The admins that run these forums have nothing to do with the development of Dayz. Alpha doesn't have a time limit. The developers covered their collective asses quite well with that disclaimer you see every time you load the game. That's all there is too it. There is no debate, there is no opinion. When the developers have added the content they feel is pertinent for release, they will do so. Nothing you or anyone else can say can change that. This game is very much playable in the state that it is in. In fact, I would say it's much more playable than the last couple of builds. You got stuck in a wall? You had to press the number key 3 times instead of 1 to draw your weapon?, you rubber banded 5 ft after exiting that house? Cry me a river man. It's not that bad.

yep, most people start out in the same mindset, so don't think you are alone. I was similar, thinking "damn, I don't really want to get killed now that I got all this gear." Then guess what happened? I got killed. Once you play through a few lives, you will know what's what. meaning, what kind of gear you want to "aspire" to have, and then simply go after it. The challenge is living long enough to put together the "kit" you want. When I start out as a freshie, it's a mad dash to grab everything I can as quickly as I can. That's half the fun. Then, If I survive that long. I start to customize my Kit to how I feel like playing that character. Maybe it's a military excursion and I will go to the airfields. Maybe I want to go old school and get a leather jacket, sawed off, and black suede shoes. Or sometimes I go for the urban camo look with the homemade pack, green raincoat, hiking boots..........you get the idea. Out of the 3 months I've been playing I have not lived long enough to enjoy my kit longer than a few hours, but I have no grievances. For me, it's about doing all that I've said and surviving the crazy kos psychopaths and living just another day.

So the server timed me out on the top lvl of the old police station (the gray one). I was in a small room. When I logged back in, I was stuck in some glitch. It looks like I am now on the bottom lvl, partially through the floor. Most off the walls are transparent / not there but I am unable to get out. I tried 4 different servers, restarted the game a couple times, tried to run / jump, tried crouching...nothing will work. I have no way to off myself and trying to sit there and wait to die of hunger / dehydration would take forever. I am completely energized / hydrated / healthy. Anyone know of a fix for this? or is there a way to contact an admin or someone who can get me unstuck?

tried the youtube method but it didn't seem like it was working. after the second time I alt tab'ed back in, the server restarted and when I returned, I was able to get out. Heh, was just about to offer up my engraved 1911 for someone to come 1 shot me.

The only thing that upsets me is when I "think" I am playing smart and end up getting kos blind sided. I was at the edge of a little town inland (forgot the name) and spent a good 15 min scoping it out and making sure there was no movement. Spent another 5 or so minutes cautiously moving from house to house around the backsides, always avoiding moving into the center areas or main road. And then, just when I thought I was pretty safe, I ran from a set of garages to the backside of a burned out 5-ton truck when I hear the shot and my screen goes black and white. Before I could turn, or duck behind the truck, the next shot rings out..."you are dead." When something like that happens I spend the next 30 minutes questioning what happened? How did he see me? Was he following me from the beginning? What could I have done to be more cautious? That's what aggravating, the wondering why someone got the drop on you and was he being as cautious as I was, or just happen to get lucky and see me?

I was going to get it but after watching a youtube vid, I decided not to. The character models look "fat" when geared, and the running / moving animations are terrible. The arms look too long and flail as you move. Horrible. I guess it would be ok to play on 1st person.

Friendlies? Ha! Here's a little diddy about friendlies... ...so me and a buddy were looking in Electro for some freshies (to help, not kos) and we come upon one getting chased by a zombie in Kamyshovo. My buddy usually approaches while I stand guard. He killed the zed for him and offered him a .357. He placed some ammo in a nearby house and told him once we leave he can go get it. After talking with him for a few minutes, we were satisfied with our friendly encounter and moved on. Not that it matters, well, maybe it does for the next part of the story, but he had to be about 12-15 yrs old judging by the sound of his voice and how he spoke on mic. Anyway, so about 15 minutes pass and as we continued our jaunt up the cost, we saw two freshies engaged in what looked like a hold up situation. We hung back off the tree line and observed them for a bit. After a few minutes my buddy says, "hey, that looks like the guy we just helped." We decide to approach, and sure as shit, it's the freshie with the .357 we gave. He was holding up the other frieshie. After confronting him he starts stuttering and saying how he just wanted to make sure this guy wasn't going to hurt him, blah, blah, blah. The other guy said he was trying to get him to take off his pants. As we were about to make them fight it out and give the .357 to the winner, the damn server restarts. The kid didn't log back into the same server when we came back in. My point here is, even if you think you are helping someone, you never know to what end. After this experience, I think I will just stick to giving freshies food, drink, cloths, and bandages. No more weapons. the kid was lucky the server restarted. I was a bit disgusted that I helped him get to a point where he could do that to another player. I was going to kill him if he logged back on.

With experimental being down for a while now, I was beginning to think the hunting addition was what they were taken down for. But seeing as it's a tentative "end of may" incorporation, I don't think that is what's going on. Well, I hope experimental comes back up before then.

Seriously, You people are more intelligent than this...right? Alpha means unquestionable amounts of changes, fixes, additions, withdraws...ever ongoing until it is pushed into beta. Even then, it is still going to go through countless changes, updates, patches...until release. There is absolutely NO justification for anyone to complain about the state of alpha. You all purchased the game well aware of the disclosure, yet you continually rant and rave about how it's not up to your standards. I'm not a fanboi, nor am I trying to defend the dev team. I just can't comprehend the ignorance that pushes this thread, and the many hundreds like it, forward.

Cant get a single one to show. Have they all been taken down? Haven't been on them in a few days and I don't see any information regarding them all being removed.

Same for me. Full servers, not a soul around. Granted, I am not near cherno, elektro, or baranzino, but still I can run around for a couple hours and see no one. I just can't believe everyone is fighting each other in one of those 3 towns. Ironically, every kos death I've endured has been on those 5/40 pop servers, out in the middle of nowhere thinking no way one of them is way out here.

When I first started, it was a mad grab for the military clothing, simply because it had the most inventory space. Now though, since I've learned what and how to prioritize what I need, I realized none of that gear is needed. I like simple clothing now and prefer to make my own pack (sticks+ rope+burlap sac). I carry a sawed off (always in my pack) an axe and a pistol, thats all I need...but on topic: I don't shoot first because that kit'ed out person might look like that for more space.

/yawn......moving on.

last time I alt tab'ed out I came back to find a zed roughing me up. Luckily, I had enough time to kill it and bandage. I was out in a bush near a tree line and waited a few minutes before going afk to make sure there wasn't any zeds around. You never know....last time I afk in Dayz.

You run faster with an ax over any other weapon. You run a max speed with no weapon or item equipped. Keep in mind, being energized/hydrated/healthy improves run speed.

Run to nearest airfield and play "lets see how many 0/0 pop servers it takes to land one that actually hasn't been hopped/gutted yet." I'm up to 7 in a row....all looted.

Dayz in a nutshell. You're right though. Once you've learned where to go and how to set yourself up in a minimal amount of time, you only got 2 options, hunt players or help them. I enjoy being a freshie though. The less gear I have, the more confident I am taking risks like approaching others in a place like Elektro. My usual routine consists of: gear up, get kos' ed, rinse and repeat. Yea, it's not much, but I can log in and do my thing without a feeling of grind or level gimmicks other mmo's throw at you to keep you paying that monthly sub.
