I think he means, check what options come up via scroll wheel while in 1st person. Fish don't magically bite as soon as you drop the line in the water. When one hooks, you'll see the option appear with the other scroll options.

Yea, with 2 mil copies sold....I've been able to get in twice so far. The first log in I had no idea where I spawned. Took about 15 to figure out I was SE of the new large town. Upon coming over a hill and looking down upon it in wonderment....EHH, get booted.

I agree with op. 3 dudes freaking out like that? Laughable. When I run into the paranoid folks I usually fuck with them before sending them on their way. Just be cool, and we'll have a convo, trade some stuff , and go about our business.

All we need is a way to target or inspect a player to see their name. Something simple like being able to put the cursor on them and pressing a key that would bring up a small info box. Of course, this would only be feasible if player names were permanent. That way you could view said player from any distance (as long as they are in view) and decide he's the same douche everyone warned you about.

Those fire stations are haunted. I broke my legs after going up the stairs to the second level of the one in the new town north of neaf. This just happened 2 days ago.

I like to think that I am tactical. I already do many of the things suggested thus far, but when your number is up, it's up. I've died a handful of times and the majority of them were from someone shooting from afar, or happened to come up on me by chance and was lucky enough to enter my flank (on HC servers) before I could adjust. In these situations, I felt there was absolutely nothing I could have done to change the outcome. Tactics played no role whatsoever during these type of encounters. I hear a lot of people say "if you were being tactical you wouldn't be in that position" for many encounters people talk about. In 3rd person...maybe, seeing as you have such a huge view advantage to have the ability to always watch your six.. On HC that advantage does not exist and it's easy to come up ones backside no matter how much you were back/side viewing as you move. And of course the 500m sniper that you never would have seen no matter how stealthy you were. I just take it as it comes and as others said, hope that I see the person first and have enough time to formulate a plan or watch and decide whether to kill them or not.

WTF game are you playing? I can run around a town all day long popping zeds with my FNX and never get more than 1 respawn. If you don't want to get ruined gear, make sure you are hydrated/energized/healthy. Zeds are still as dumb as ever. Easier just to shoot them.

If people don't come into the game knowing its pretty much all about the pvp, they will learn soon enough. What makes the game frustrating is going around trying to avoid it. Sooner or later kos is going to get you and sour your experience. I've come to the point now that I know I'm not going to live long. I'm fine with that. It enables me to relax about gearing up and being paranoid. If I don't feel like playing death match I'll purposefully get myself lost in the interior to explore the little areas I haven't been in yet until its time to head back east to my inevitable demise. It would be nice if people couldn't loot your shit. Thats what angers me the most. Not that I got kos, but knowing that asshole now has the fortune of all my work for good gear. I think I'm going to start dumping all my gear before heading into that NE area of the map (all except my weapon and ammo) so the kos fucks won't have any reward from my corps.

Saw alpha footage of H1Z1 and let me say, it was impressive. There is wildlife, hunting, zombie hordes, and yes, you can torch those fuckers! The buildings have the apocolyptic, dilapidated look Dayz is lacking. And night time looks eerie and unforgiving. Just about everything everyone wants in Dayz is already in that games alpha.

I say no. The map is big, but even bicycles will make traversing the map a mere matter of minutes. If vehicles were somehow "locked" to roadways only, then I could agree with this post.

A decked out M4 is my favorite, but it's not easy to acquire if you play legit (no server hopping tent city, ect.). Mosin is what I look for first, but often find an sks before, so I like those as well. However I like the sks better, out of the two, with no scope. When I do find a Mosin, my next goal is a PU scope, and if I'm feeling frisky, I'll take a hike over to Balota for an LRS. Shotguns are my favorite for secondary, but I don't like being caught out with one against multiple people. For secondary, I go for FNX if I can find it. Usually end up finding a 1911 first. Fucking love the crossbow, but the reload draw is just too long for an encounter gone wrong. When I happen upon them, I use them on the zeds of the town I found it in and then dump it.

Bodies need to persist for some time...maybe 30 min? to combat people re looting thier stuff, simply make you own body unlootable, yet others can loot it. Being able to approach an area and seeing dead bodies is good sense and allows you to beable to adjust acordingly....knowing that guy was killed within the last 30 min. Hide body should be removed.

I was playing with a buddy and while coming upon the police station in Dolina, we heard "oh my god." It was loud and made us both scramble for cover. We looked around and realized no one was there. Not a single building had been looted or zed killed. Upon realizing that, we were left thinking, "what the fuck?" Still have no idea what or who it was, or if it really did happen, but my buddy swears he heard it too.

I think 3rd person is much easier to circle straife and aim since you have the leverage of view. On 1st person the zeds often bug out and end up on your flank or rear and you are then adjusting more to get back your advantage and aim. But I play on HC mostly and it takes a bit more practice. I can tell just how much easier it is on 3rd person after being on HC for a week and switching over.

"don't get attached to gear" is probably the biggest hurdle to overcome. I say this because I sometimes do the same. I'll get my guy pimped out the way I like and then....be scared to go anywhere where people are because I don't want to lose my hard work. After you've died a few times and learned some of the map and where to go to get re geared, it becomes much easier to come back strong from kos. I can get killed and be back up and running quickly now, so I'm never really losing tons of hours and time. Another thing I had to come to grips with is that there is no firearm that is going to be the difference between you living or dying. I've had decked out M4's with all pristine attachments, Acog and red dot sights, enough ammo to exterminate a small town and guess what? Kos before I even get a chance to use it. My only goal with firearms now is a main and a back up. Doesn't matter what, whichever two I find first is what I roll with. Cloths? I no longer care. I pick up anything with muted colors (greens, browns, blacks) and have gotten my "essentials" list down to where I don't need huge backpacks. Part of learning the map is learning the houses. Once you know which ones have what you need, you can clear a town in a matter of minutes and come out with everything you were looking for. My load out now consists of: main weapon firearm back up weapon firearm average 40-60 rounds of ammo. I never shoot zeds and never live long enough to use more than that. You can't walk 2 feet without finding ammo in this build. either fire axe or wood splitting ax for zeds maybe a canteen, but I don't even need to use those anymore. No need to horde food / drink. Simply eat and drink everything you find and you'll never drop out of healthy / energized. at least 1 morphine or sticks for fractured leg That's about it. Everything on this list is obtainable in EVERY town no matter how small, and easily found within 30 min to an hour. the morphine or sticks is what takes the longest to find usually. After this, I go looking for encounters with players. Often times it becomes me getting kos from some jerk I never hear or see, and I'm back to the first inland town I spawn near to get re supply... but sometimes you run into a friendly and get to keep your shit.

It's not that they do warrant unprovoked aggression...it's simply, you can bet that guy will simply start shooting at whatever moves. When I see people in towns that are not intending on hunting down everything that moves, they either have a melee weapon out (for zeds) or no weapon at all. Non kos players play smart and have no need for fire arms. The guys you see running around town with weapon drawn are either too paranoid and will shoot dust moving, or just want to kill whomever they can come upon.

Many people have brought up some kind of system for identifying bandit's / hero's and while I scoffed at the idea before, I have come to the point (in only 3 months of playing) that something should be implemented to ALLOW people to take 2 seconds to calculate the other person before shooting, talking, ect. I've come to realize that you have to pretty much jump on the band wagon and kos whenever you are in a) Elektro, Cherno, Svet, or Berenzino and b ) an air force base or military installation. Aside from simply roaming around the map, those places are where everyone's at. Hell, it's not even as if you have 2 seconds to calculate the other person. It's an immediate kos or die. No question about it. I'm quickly losing count of how many times I'll be moving through a dense town area and out of the corner some guy approaches and is shooting before I have time to "react" properly. I've become so wary of people. I still hold to not shooting if I have the drop on them or can spot them from afar. But I no longer "stop" when I run up on someone unexpectedly. I just start shooting.

No...I did it to myself. You will respawn as a freshie if you kill that other version of yourself. If it happens, I suggest watching / guarding it until it disappears to be safe.
