I really like the idea of being forced to carry a rifle if I don't have a strap for it. That's a fantastic idea in my book. Having to put it down when I want to use my hands for something. It makes it a much harder choice of what I want to take with me. Do I take the SKS without a strap and hope I find one? Or do I take the pistol so I can holster it easily? You could craft your own straps out of rags or vines or string... all sorts of goodness there. You should put this in the suggestions forum.

Depending on how long it's been since the outbreak, lots of military gear makes sense. Society wouldn't devolve to sticks and rocks for many years after a real apocalypse... there'd be plenty of gear around for everyone. That being said, while I don't want any of the hardware to go away, I do want it to be much harder to find, much harder to maintain and much harder to find ammo for. So that eventually, while I might have an M4 or SKS and a handful of rounds, I'll mostly stick to my bow & arrow or crossbow until I really, really need to use the gun. I see ammo becoming a Day Z currency.

My trusty Sawn-Off and a rifle. Haven't played with the rifles much yet. Had a Blaze but died with that character without even shooting it and I have an SKS now, but same thing - haven't fired a shot yet. :p Looking for a Mosin because I like single shot bolt action rifles. The Sawn-Off is for clearing buildings and general protection in the cities. The rifle is for when I am scouting and waiting on the outskirts of a town. I found a chest holster too, so eventually I'll stick a pistol in that when I find one but I don't know if that will replace my Sawn-Off or not. For melee I've only had the splitting axe so far so I'll have to go with that. Kills zombies in one head hit and so it fills it's purpose fine.

I've been trying combinations of everything I find. Nothing has worked so far. I think we'll have to wait for the crafting to be implemented in a better form before we can start using our 100 mile an hour tape on everything we see. It would be cool if you could duct tape peoples mouths though... and then when they speak all that comes through is a 'mmmph' noise. :p

Just because you'll be less accurate than a Stormtrooper, it doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to do it.

I'm not a bad guy, but if you try and axe me in the head and I shoot you in the leg... I'm taking your medpack and anything else useful you have, firing a few shots in the air and then leaving you for the zombies. If someone says hi like a real person instead of a maniac, I'll likely help you out with some stuff I have or at least watch your back while you loot some stuff for yourself.

lol Alpha. Plus, I don't mind hiking. I've been hiking for a while now and it's still fun, never knowing what I'm going to find up in the hills. And I've found some pretty cool shit in small towns and farms so far.

I've been looking for people. I was in Dubky and Novoselky yesterday on a fully populated server and couldn't find a soul. I thought about wandering down to Chernogorsk but figured I'd more than likely run into KoS players before anyone friendly there so now I'm heading north to try and get hold of some better quality gear first. So far my only player interaction is getting shot at in Elecktro, but I never saw the guy and he stopped shooting when I called out friendly. I typically have my Sawn-off out when looting around houses and stuff and my SKS when I'm not planning on going inside anywhere. But I have them pointing at the ground. I wouldn't aim them unless actually being shot at.

I wouldn't have a problem with this, as long as I could have multiple characters on separate servers (that never interacted of course). I would hate to be locked in to one character. It's kinda frustrating as it is, only being able to have one regular and one hardcore character. I don't want my characters to be able to mix though. I don't want to be able to log on to a server, drop a heap of shit, and come back with another character to get it. I just want to be able to have multiple characters if each of them is going to be locked into the server I start it on.

So reading through a few guides and stuff it appears a lot of people keep a map open and alt tab between. That kinda ruins the spirit of the game for me, so I won't be doing that, however I do occasionally need to tab out (especially when I'm trying to tweak settings and need to reference stuff). However my game takes forever to alt+tab out and back in and half the time it locks up completely. Does anyone have a workaround for this? Is a fullscreen windowed mode planned for the future? I found a 'windowed' option in the .cfg file but enabling it makes the game behave very weirdly (all text and inventory etc is super sized) and become unplayable.

Bit of a weird quiz. The only answer that I did that was killing people were the guys who killed the fresh spawn, yet I scored 50% hero and 48% bandit, lol.

And if I got the drop on you, chances are if you complied for a moment until I could assess the situation, I'd trade some stuff with you or help kit you out if I had more gear. Ah okay, I'll try that. I didn't even know you could do that I never open the Steam overlay. It's mostly for when I am tweaking settings and I want to check something first. I was having to log out and log back in just to check stuff so eventually I just stopped bothering. Sometimes it's to look at the wiki for info - like I couldn't figure out how to open a Medkit after I'd picked it up and I had to completely log out to check because alt+tab takes so long. :p

I'm sorry, but it's Day Z, he was a newspawn and had nothing anyway and it'll take him two seconds to be back where he was. A maniac axe murderer running out of the bushes just as he was being let go literally hard me in tears of laugher. "Oi run... RUN! GO! GO! OH MY GOD!!!!" :lol: Next time the axe murderer guy needs to be screaming incoherently.

It's an Alpha. If you haven't reported this in the bug report forum then go and do it, otherwise they'll never know you're having the problem.

What happens if you get shot in the face or the base of the neck? Does the helmet still protect you, or does the hitbox extend over your whole head?

The only interaction I've had so far is being shot at in Elecktro. I didn't even see the guy but I think he was in the tower at the fire station. I got into cover and called out friendly and the shooting stopped, so I am not sure whether he heard, ran out of ammo, or backed off. Agree, one of the most thrilling experiences in gaming today and I didn't even see the guy!

As long as music is off by default I don't have a problem with it being added. It shouldn't be on by default though. I do think it kind of ruins the atmosphere of the game, having ambient music though.

Who cares about 'lore'. Headshots only. Anything else is far too easy. Spray a horde with an M4 and cackle all the way to the bank. Headshots force people to actually blood learn how to aim.

... addressing that at me why? I was saying the exact same thing as you. Spent ages running around Elecktro yesterday and didn't get killed despite other players being around the place.

And yet I somehow spent most of yesterday exploring Elektro and didn't get killed, even though there were other players about. Yep. Totally unplayable.

Want. Besides you can always light a fire somewhere out of sight or, hopefully when building is implemented, build a fire pit or something to hide the light.
